this video has so much misinformation and terrible advice it's not even funny. even the technically correct bit about Light the Fuse is still trash advice because the ending explosion deals significantly less damage if you spend the entirety of FFYL spamming the individual sticks of dynamite. It's almost always better to immediately go for the kill unless an enemy is extremely low HP
@Chik Nuggets yknow I think the reason you don't have any replies is because everyone is acknowledging that you're wrong. Come back when you have 10k hours in borderlands before you start throwing smoke on other people based on your own limited information.
I have 1000+ hours on exclusively Krieg and knew everything except the fact that gun melee wasn't getting the extra melee damage. You never cease to teach me something new.
I like to think Krieg is the best designed character in BL2. Maybe not entirely in balance but overall as a translation from Bandits and Psychos I think it is incredibly interesting and faithful.
Agreed. A meta design that showed me consistency in the designers’ vision of the universe itself. He is every enemy I’ve become familiar with along the way, and I can feel the same impulses to play like the AI does when I’m a vault hunter
Agreed, the high risk/reward aspect is what makes him one of my favorites, the kind of character where you rush towards an army of enemies and your friend goes "ARE YOU INSANE?"
One weird interaction with Kriegs melee damage comes from Crystalisks. Their crystals are very weak to melee damage. However with Krieg you only get the bonus melee damage against them if you use a weapon with a blade. I think Zer0 actually has the same problem.
I think this is similar to roid shields, if you use a roid shield you should use a bladed weapon as the blade is multiplicative with the roid bonus but the base melee is additive I believe
Yo, Joltz, don’t give up on your ultimate Krieg playthrough. You’re by far the best BL content creator out there so don’t give up, you beautiful bastard!
I first read this as 'give up on your ultimate krieg playthrough' and I was gonna dislike the hell out of this comment, but yes I agree with all of this.
There is no me, there is no you! There is only the never ending spit and bile of combat! The twenty-four hour murder spree of shining metal! I drink the blood and eat the loot and breathe the numbers, because I! AM! A MONSTER! NOW AND FOREVER!
Krieg is the most interesting character in all of Borderlands history from a gameplay perspective. His skill trees all do their own thing but have synergies and his “goal” is a unique in a way that encourages aggressive engagement. I still believe that most characters have boring playstyles with massive gameplay overlap but Krieg is the exception and that makes his the most fun.
This video is a huge blessing for my Krieg build. I’m currently going through UVHM and he’s definitely a very finicky character who can very easily be built or played wrong. Even so, he has been my favorite play through.
another important trick, corrosive is the longest lasting dot out of the three from what I remember, so using corrosive to trigger dot triggered effects on krieg is the best way to go about it. Its why joltz used a pandemic for the elemental elation trick. Using an infection works too
I know it's in the card for Release the Beast but I have a feeling some people may still not know. To determine if you are at the right amount of HP for Release the Beast you can just look for the exclamation mark next to your health bar. If the exclamation mark is there, using your action skill will activate Release the Beast.
I never got into it....mainly because I hated the Slag factor and the 2 left trees had Krieg ignore that altogether. Like I struggled with a friend with Axton and Gemini Slag Turrets. Then played as same level Krieg. Everything died. My friend just at back and watched.
Another cool trick Joltz didnt mentioned is using Turtle shields to lower your health, then equiping your Rough Rider/Adaptive shield and a health relic, youll be able to activate Release The Beast as soon as you leave the menu :D without damaging yourself and since this is done in the menu you can do it during combat. You dont have to wait till OP Levels, this works very early. Great video Joltz!
Roid Shields are actually still very viable on Krieg for melee builds, as his STV self damage is NOT determined by them. The bonus from them doesnt apply to the self hit. STV determines its damage ONLY from your base melee and grenade damage (including BAR bonuses). So use roid shields all you want early-mid or even rather late game! They can give very good help on early build boss fights.
Hey Jolt I just wanted to say thank you for making youtube videos and talking the time to make them, you have made me better as a borderlands player and many other people. I love your videos and especially the new ones as I am now able to keep up with you and I'm bench watch your videos a lot longer. I hope you keep up with the content and have a hod day/night
4:38 - Roid does NOT apply to StV procs. StV's self-damage is coded as grenade splash damage, not melee damage. Hence why Fuel the Blood increases the damage of a self-hit because it increase your grenade damage. The actual reason why you don't want to use roid on Krieg is not just because you need the extra health on OP10 from the Rough Rider but because all of his melee damage is additive unlike Zer0's which is multiplicative.
I love these videos. I can't tell you how many times I remember you showing off a skip or a strat, but not remembering exact details and what stream highlight it was on. This is great for building knowledge of the game. Thanks Joltz
This was very informative. I knew about the Sheriff Badge increasing fire rate for Buzz Axe throws, but not that skill in the fire tree. Plus that was (one of) my gripes with Krieg, which was the feeling that I kept downing myself (from Silence the Voices) and I didn't feel like I could kill anything fast enough. Now I have an idea of what to go for for melee Krieg. Keep it up Joltz!
Wow I didn't know the bladed weapons one! Thank you Joltz btw for being so thoughtfull about your community's tastes and adapting so much to everyone's likings, you're the best
Actually learned something! That cool down reduction from car damage is nice. Also not really a strat per-say, but more a weird Krieg quirk. He takes less knock back from most things making him the only character that can't grenade jump in the most common ways
I like this tips videos, this and skips, glitches and exploits are interesting because it's not stuff you would usually know playing the game but can help keep the game fresh.
Dont take Blood Trance. It sounds better to be in Buzzaxe Rampage for longer but with Release the Beast you don't need it at all. Also you cant use Moxxi weapons or grenades during Buzzaxe Rampage.
Roid damage actually does not apply to Silence the Voices, you do not do increased self damage with it because StV is coded as grenade damage rather than melee (The same reason Fuel the Blood increases self damage). Roid shields are bad because you need the extra HP to survive in general.
You probably know this by now but Silence the Voices self-attack is purely grenade damage, so Roid shields don't actually increase the damage you receive from it ! Edit: So after a re-read of the wiki, it's a mix of melee and grenade damage. However the melee part is unaffected by Roid shields anyway. Rough Rider is just always a better choice, but at least you can safely use a Love Thumper before getting it if you plan on doing DLC after story.
Hey joltz idk if you knew this but if you go down while your in release the beast you can actually keep swinging as if your in release the beast until you go back to first person
Best Grenade mod for Krieg is the fastball as it does massive damage giving massive bloodsplosions if you have the perk. And it plays well with Krieg’s close quarters style of combat.
Just started watching the video to say the greatest strat is going down and tossing sticks of dynamite. We all use that strat at least once per playthrough. Especially if another one of our friends are playing Krieg, Ya know what I mean Joltz.

If you're playing Krieg and want to get alot of elemental elation or bloodlust stacks fast the best best options are either a low level election with the 2x prefix (buy from seraph vender in hammerlock cabin or a low level longbow storefront grenade (ninja turtle Easter egg in bloodshot stronghold)
