    @peanutapt Yes, if you're getting the 7D, it'll be better than your XS / 1000D, so unless you want it as a spare, you should sell it. PS - Again, please support me by shopping at the partner stores page at cameralabs . com!

    Whatching this again after 14yrs since 2010, This camera got me into photography but it was too expensive back in 2010 so this 2024 I got it and I'm so happy it still performs very well. Thank you Gordon.

    @iLIKEediting There's a lot to choose between them.   • @cameralabs

    Of the two I prefer the 15-85mm for the wider coverage, the USM focusing and the slightly better quality. But the 18-135mm is great if you need the extra reach and won't be buying a telephoto for a while... I've reviewed them both at cameralabs . com, so check them out!

    Great review. Still relevant here in 2018. I really wish that all the camera manufacturers would offer a camera that only focuses on stills. The video options offered are nice but not my cup of tea. One buys a camera to take pictures not videos. I am looking for something in between my Canon 5D and my SL2. I have narrowed my search between the 80D, 7D, 7D mark II. I lean toward the older cameras because I like simplicity and I am always looking for a deal. As a retiree on a fixed income budget considerations zoom very large for me. I do miss the old film days. One was forced to concentrate on each and every shot hoping that you nailed it but not knowing it until you developed it. I don't miss those days as the skills learned still serve me well today. Thank you Gordon and keep on keeping on!

    Let me just say I love your reviews, probably the best I have seen. This video really helped me choose the 7D over the 50D. All my questions were answered and you present the reviews in clear, understandable language. I also love your website, thanks very much!

    Both would be great, so it depends which range and focal ratio you prefer. Obviously the 17-55 won't work on full-frame bodies should you want to upgrade in the future.

    I think 904SF is making an analogy with the people who say 'which is better, Canon or Nikon' - and the answer is of course the same: whichever you prefer!

  • @cameralabs
    @cameralabs  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @tangkag879 They may have the same resolution and movie modes, but the 7D is much faster, tougher, better AF, better controls, better viewfinder, more customisation, but bigger, heavier and more expensive. But the quality between them is the same. Please read my reviews at cameralabs . com for the full story.

  • @cameralabs
    @cameralabs  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    Weeeell, it all depends on the type of film, how well it's been exposed, processed and of course scanned. There's a lot of variables, and unless you're using pro slide film, you'd be lucky to achieve much more than 12-15 Mpixels worth in my experience. Under absolute best conditions, you may exceed 15, but I think 24 is really pushing it. In my own view, I'd say the best of the 35mm format sensors (such as the Canon 5D2 and Nikon D3x) will comfortably outresolve 35mm film.

  • @cameralabs
    @cameralabs  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @BelAirLongboard The video features and still photo quality are identical on the 550D and 7D. Only go for the 7D if you want faster shooting, better AF, tougher body etc. Don't forget the 600D which is essentially a 550D with an articulated screen - great for video. See my reviews at cameralabs . com!

    Hi Gorden! I have to say your reviews are the best I've seen on TH-cam.
    I'm very impressed how the reviews are in depth and details.
    Oh and may I have one suggestion? I really like to see how these DSLR AF perfromence in a low/ dim light situation. I believe that's a lot of the DSLR users want to know too, since now there're more and more users always taking their camera around them everyday.
    Once again, thanks for your great reviews. Keep up the good job buddy!

    Hi Gordon, I really enjoy watching your videos, very professional, articulate and thorough. I own a Canon 450D and contemplating upgrading to a 5D but can't yet afford it, then I realized that buying a 7D will be a great addition to my arsenal even after buying the 5D, the 7D is an excellent camera especially with the Digic 4 processor, it has a great solid body and is weather resistant. It reminds a bit of the 40D or the early 35mm A1 (which I still own) in the sense that they are timeless.

  • @cameralabs
    @cameralabs  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @videofxnoosa It's not available during composition as I recall. Not sure about playback - it is on the 550D / T2i, but only on the first frame.

  • @MrKnnknn
    @MrKnnknn 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @JohnHFilms The 7D overheats for the following reasons:
    - CF Card close to being full - Solution is to upgrade to larger storage.
    - Weather sealing - No solution
    - Internal battery discharging releases heat - Solution get a battery grip and use those batteries instead.
    As you can see the reason for overheating is mostly when shooting video for a lengthy time, resulting in filling up the CF card, and battery discharge.

    Hmmm, I'd disagree on the noise front - I have full comparisons of the D300s against the 7D in my 7D review at cameralabs . com and the image quality is pretty good. But yes, Canon has certainly been inspired by Nikon in a number of the features here.

    3 major things i like on the 7d
    1. the intuitive quick mode auto-focusing by half pressing the shutter button.
    2. the zone-af mode
    3. the improved weather sealing
    other than those trio of convenient features, i wouldn't pick the 7d. i'd still stick to my trusty 50d. i found the 50d to be the most balanced dslr i tried and tested, that's why i bought it. higher/faster-everything is good, but isn't always the case in most situations.
