    If I had that oil change system on my mower, I would find a way to pump the remaining oil out. Think in terms of topping off a glass of bad milk with good milk. The bad stuff is still in there.

      @Mark Myword I just bought the S160... and plan on doing a mix of the old and new. I like the volume the new system adds... but prefer to have clean oil. I am going to add a drain, and every other oil change remove the oil and replace it. I bought the drain tube attachment for just that reason.

    I have this same John Deere. Purchase in 2020... I only have 13hours on it .... I have taken it back to John Deere dealers.
    With this complaint. ..... It vibrates the deck vibrates and when you're trying to cut grass it leaves streaks of tall grass I took it just the other day to a John dealer he took it off the truck he's mowing already mowed grass but I told him that you don't mow grass when it looks like it's already been mowed you mow grass when it grows a little bit so I had him cut through some grass that looked like it needed mowing and it left streaks and I told him that I have driven that same model lawn mower not that one but a different one and it cut like butter and it didn't vibrate and was asking him what he could do to fix it and that John Deere guy said to me that the lawn mower isn't made to cut grass that high and I said that isn't high that's when you would go out and mow grass we have a club cadet Moe's right through it and he told me the mowers working perfect and it's cutting fine and I said so you're telling me this John Deere is a piece of junk and he said yep and I said thank you load it back up on my truck and he loaded it on the truck and I went in the office and I told them all I'd never buy another John Deere product again ever and I came home feeling pretty bad because paid $2,700 for that lawn mower and someone suggested that we take it to a lawn mower repair place so currently I have it set up Monday to go to a lawn mower repair place that can get their hands on John Deere parts you know speaking to him over the phone he kind of told me it sounded like there was a problem with anchoring the tension pulley because I told him when you engage the blades the tension pulleys bobbing all over the place and the belt is flopping all over the place and that's obviously where the vibrations coming from and I had it down the deck off and put new blades on it didn't help but I noticed metal shavings around the tension pulley and I even took the tension pulley off and took it to the John Deere place and they seen it and they said I'll run with it but it still seems like there's something wrong with the tension pulley and the lawn mower repair guy is going to look at it Monday so if anybody's had this problem with their John Deere of this same model please comment thank you

    The easy oil change to me seems similar to a dry sump setup. On many different engines it’s near impossible to get all the old oil out. My brother has a 1986 Harley Sportster that’s never been opened up. When you drain the oil sump tank it leaves about a quart of old oil in the system. Never been an issue. There are lemons out there of course but main thing is doing regular maintenance IMO. Looking forward to getting a Deere mower soon myself! 👍

    Per John Deere:
    "The Easy Change 30-second oil change system replaces .8 quart of oil. The remaining oil in the engine is refreshed by the charge of new oil included in the replacement Easy Change System. Combined with 40% more engine oil capacity, improved filtration and cooler running temperatures which help extend oil life, it is no longer necessary to remove and dispose of all the oil in your engine during service." You can learn more at their website.

    • @mrbubetube
      @mrbubetube 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      john deere is lying to you. they're selling you an "extended life" engine and then telling you to leave more than half the dirty worn out oil in the engine when doing an oil change, and then charging you more than twice the price of a normal oil change while forcing you to use their proprietary filter and oil. They're playing you for a SUCKER and you're falling for it. Enjoy serving your new international commie masters. After all, it looks pretty and has the John Deere brand name, and that's all that matters. Never mind the fact that John Deere previously made lawn tractors in the USA that lasted 50+ years and this one is "proudly assembled in the USA with Global parts" and will only last 3 or 4 years before you have to put major repairs into it or throw it away and buy a new one, which most people do because of the cost of repairing the engine and unserviceable throwaway transmission. Hey, did you get a John Deere hat with that mower? How about a John Deere face mask? robinplacefabrics.com/product/john-deere-this-is-how-i-save-the-world-face-mask

    The filter only has. .08 qt oil , system capacity is aprox 2.5 qts, oil loses its lubrication after a while and needs to be changed, there is a crankcase drain on the opposite side of the filter however its placement was poorly planned and with no clear path for oil it will most certainly make a mess..

    If you never drained the oil since the 8hr break in period you still have metal shavings floating around your engine oil. They are heavy fine shavings and bang around the sump and crank cam and piston rods..... But hey if you wanna pay $40 for .25 quart of oil and continue to use the old oil you’ll see when you get to the 200+ hours mark. Ask anyone who has ever BUILT an engine.... You always drain that oil after a break in period.

    I'm a lawn and garden service tech at my local Deere dealer and I have to say that the easy change oil filter is a joke, it's just an oversized oil filter pre filled with oil. It isnt any better than your standard oil filter, you are just paying for the convenience. At $45 for just the filter is ridiculous, that's not including spark plugs, air and fuel filter. You could buy the old school home maintenance kit for about $40!

  • @walkerm777
    @walkerm777 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Nice mower. I am looking at the E140. Not sure if I want it. The new filter design dosnt bother me. But John Deere is wrong. After being a mechanic for 45 years, oil over time looses its viscosity over time. But if the filter is changed enough, that shouldn't be a problem. If that mower was used as much as a car. It would be an eventual disaster.

  • @JAllyFarms

    About the easy change oil system: I LOVE IT! Yes it does not change all the oil (about70%) but just add oil if needed, takes about 2 seconds to add some more get over it people. I dont think its totally possible to do all the oil at one time with this type of system, yes when first starting the 30sec oil change will take you about 10 mins to figure it all out but no tools required. after the learning curve it will take a lot shorter time. You do the same thing with your car the only difference is that the filter hold about 70% of the oil so buy and extra qt. Also its 100% no clean up

    • @Bluelightbandit
      @Bluelightbandit  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Changing the oil in the Husqvarna that I used to have was a pain in the ass due to where the drain plug was in relation to the frame. It was hard to get a funnel or anything to catch the oil to keep it off the ground. It seemed like I was always making a mess when I did that, even when I knew what was coming and even tried to prevent it.
      I understand JD's logic here by only replacing the "dirty" oil in the block which is .8 of a quart. I guess it comes down to checks and balances basically. It's not like this is a $50,000 race engine that requires premium love and attention every time it's fired up, it's a lawnmower engine that will probably outlive me to be honest lol. Come to think of it, out of my previous riding lawn tractors that I've owned, it's always been a bunch of other crap that has worn out instead of the engines, even the ones with neglected engine maintenance. If this video is going to be as popular as the last one was, I already know that I'm going to catch hell over my above comments but that's just the way I feel about it. To me, it's definitely worth having this convenience versus the way I used to do it knowing that the outcome will probably be the same.
      I'm doing better each day thanks to my physical therapist. I'm starting to believe that she knows more than all of my doctors put together, ain't that some shit. Thanks for watching and commenting, I hope you're doing good as well. 👍
