This was my FAVOURITE band growing up! So cool!! I hope that Andy and Paul read these comments because I'd like to thank them for brightening my childhood. 'Secret' was my favourite song growing up! And their concert at the Masonic temple in Toronto decades ago still stands as one of my favourites of all time. If You Leave, Sailing On The Seven Seas, Walking on The Milky Way! Bring it!
OMD, Tears For Fears, New Order, Depeche Mode were just some of my favourite bands in high school and now to see band members like Andy featured on my favourite reaction channel is a full circle moment!
One of my favorite OMD songs. The beginning is dream-like building up to a very unique melody with a unique tempo, including a lovely brass section. It's very much like a classical waltz.
These reviews with Andy are fascinating. A very likeable guy with some amazing stories , OMD are legends. I'm still hoping to hear souvenir at some point during these interviews , one of my favourite records of all time.
Loved OMD when I was growing up in the 80's. But unlike most other 80s bands I enjoyed, i never grew tired of OMDs music as it has always somehow remained fresh and I still love listening to their music. Andy is such an enthusiastic, cool, geeky, lovable guy. Long may he shine. Best wishes to you all. These reactions with Andy are pure joy.
Andy, if you are reading the comments, way back when I was in university, some friends of mine used to host a music night and they would always end with this track. It was everybody's favourite. To this day, decades later, it brings back some wonderful memories.
Oh my GOODNESS. This song takes me right back to my teenage years in the 80's and being lovesick. OMD are magical when it comes to evoking nostalgia and yearning in their songs. Thank you so much for having Andy on. May I suggest you explore Souvenir? It's absolutely beautiful.
If I had to choose one word to describe OMD it would be "feelings". I don't know what musical magic that they worked with, but I got this impression from every song by them. Mood. Feelings. Also, the production on all their work is stellar. On this track there is such a gorgeous texture to the vocals. Very pleased to hear this song again, see Andy and your reaction.
Fantastic Video! I never expected Kate Bush, Kraftwerk, OMD and ZZ Top mentioned in ONE setting! It sort of proves that all these artist were important as they belonged to the most referenced in their distinct genres. By the way: Also Kate Bush fell in love with the Fairlight Synth and she and Peter Gabriel were the musical nerds who went digging deep in that new exciting digital cave they digged. This was perhaps also the reason that Kate Bush Fans had to wait more and more years for her new Albums. 😢
I'm loving these Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark episodes with Mr. McCluskey, especially the parts about Kraftwerk. It's the music of my college years, and brings back great memories. I think most of my friends had a crush on Kate Bush too. Forever live and Die was definitely a favourite among many great pieces. Thanks, Jay & Amber, and Andy McCluskey as well!
How wonderful that you have Andy join you. I remember buying the 7" single of this. For some reason the spindle hole was off centre and the song played with quite some appreciable wow. I really should have taken it back to the shop for a replacement, but I didn't. Strangely, every time I hear it now, I'm expecting the wow! I've almost accepted it as integral to the song. Keep up the good work Rob Squad. I really love 'tuning' into your channel. Kind regards.
"Forever Live & Die" is a fantastic song. Such a beautiful sound, as is typical of OMD. They made so many songs that just have this incredible beauty with their sounds. Songs like "Enola Gay", "Electricity". You need to react to the song "Secret", as well as "Enola Gay", Walking on the Milky Way", "Dreaming". Great interview!
@@thomsevilla4956 I don't think it's that great there's too many songs on it that just don't mesh well together. Forever live and die and Shame are the two songs that stand out. I think the album Sugar Tax is their most underrated.
I’ve always loved this song and when Jay mentioned the funky guitar I immediately thought of Nile Rodgers from my favorite band CHIC. When Mr McClusky confirmed it was a stylistic choice-wow he blew my mind.
(Forever) Live and Die has always been and always will be my favorite OMD song. The melody is so catchy! It NEVER gets old. You guys are so lucky to meet (and talk with!) Andy McCluskey. Such an amazing and talented musician and artist!
I so remember this Great song, the Radio 📻 and VH1 on 24/7 I didn't miss a hit and this was a HIT!😅 Jay&Amber keep bringing us these great artists. Love their Stories, Great Reaction, Great Memories👍 Peace✌️ and Love❤️ your 70 year old forever Young Hippie Gary 😊
Talking about Kraftwerk, I was surprised Andy didn't mention his (lesser known) collobaration with former Kraftwerk member Karl Bartos. Andy co-wrote a couple of Elektric Music songs, and also did vocals on 'Kissing the Machine', a track that is easily as good as the best of OMD.
I love the fact that artist tells background stories about the songs. OMD was huge back then. My favorites are Enola Gay , Maid of Orleans. Could you please invite Gary Kemp or Tony Hadley from Spandau Ballet as a host?
Hello my friends. First of all : thank you very much for this series and Andy McCluskeys comments. It was very nice to hear all the things behind OMD. Andy McCluskey sad, one of the greatest influences was Kraftwerk. One day you have to react to songs like Autobahn 1974, Radioactivity 1975 or Trans Europa Express 1977. Kraftwerk was and still is one of, maybe the best electronic band in historie
This is my favorite OMD - I love the dreamy sound of it. Also check out "Souvenir" and "Walking on the Milky Way." And you really should do some more Echo and the Bunnymen: "Bedbugs and Ballyhoo" "Bring on the Dancing Horses" and "Seven Seas."
Easily one of the greatest hidden gems of the eighties. I fracken love this band. OMD's music has such an unparallell elegance and beauty that very few can match. So glad you two have discovered OMD and their amazing deep cuts.
One of my favorite OMD songs! I had tickets to see the guys in October, but they have unfortunately had to postpone their tour until next year. I hope everything is OK! And yes, please get to some Kraftwerk! I listened to "Telephone Call" and "Trans-Europe Express" on repeat in college. They were SO influential on many of the electronic bands that I love.
Listen to the entire Architecture and Morality album. It will change your musical life. I had it in my "walkman" on a pretty much permanent basis as a teen. OMD was one of the greats.
Hi Jay and Amber. It's Andrew Erroch fae Paisley in Scotland here. I'm loving your creators series and it's great how you get such iconic artists on your channel. OMD was a brilliant band with some really great tunes. I saw them supporting another band in Glasgow. I think it was Depeche Mode, but I'm not sure, and they were still on form. I love the ZZ Top story, and I will always remember where I heard it. I will, of course, share this information. Thank you to you and the guys from OMD, if they're reading this. Æx 🙏
WOW... IN EL SALVADOR, "IF YOU LEAVE" BY O.M.D. WAS THE SONG OF THE DECADE OF THE 1980s, IT WAS NUMBER 1 FOR 16 WEEKS IN 1986. AND THEIR FOLLOWING SONG "FOREVER LIVE AND DIE" WAS S HUGH HIT, TOO. I BOUGHT A TICKET TO SEE THEN IN 2020 IN GERMANY, BUT THEN COME DIE COVID 19 AND EVERYTHING WAS CANCELED. HOWEVER IT STILL ONE OF MY FAVORITE BAND OF ALL TIME
My first college roommate introduced me to this album and this song ENCHANTED me. I had an art book at the time that featured photos of the members of Andy Warhol”s Factory and I would listen to this song on repeat, flipping through the book. So, in my mind, it will always be about them and their immortal beauty
The great andy mcCLUSKY . Seen OMD live back in the day at the empire theatre in Liverpool ❤. Awesome show. When the show finished we waited outside and Andy and his bandmates were looking out the window. The window was open and I shouted up to andy if he wanted to come for a beer 🍺 with me and my cousin. He started laughing. He said thanks but he was busy. Anyway he said wait there a minute and he come back to the window and dropped a tour shirt to me. I was really happy. I gave the shirt to my cousin. He framed it. Andy is a cool 😎 dude. ❤️🙏
Oh Yeah, I remember this awesome tune! Such a vibe. Haven't heard it in forever. It's so cool too to hear Andy also mention Kraftwerk as an influence. They have been so influential for sooo many major artists. You can certainly hear the Kraftwerk influence in "Electricity".
One of my favorite songs by OMD! And, another great interview - love the stories too! I need to make sure that I get my tickets to their show next year!!
Takes me back to my High School Days. So many we excellent tunes in their catalog. Brilliant writing. Check out 88 seconds in Greensboro, Enola Gay, Souvenir, If you leave, Dreaming, So in love and so many others
i was very young when I got married (43 years and counting) so couldn't afford concerts in the 1980s. I had to idolise from afar but I was lucky enough to see them live in 2022 at a concert in middlesborough. One of the best shows ever. I absolutely adore this song but its best played medium loud in a dark room so the sound just washes over you. Truly magnificent. Hope to see them again some day.
I'm really enjoying these sessions. OMD was one of my favourite groups in the early 1980s and as a teenager I had their albums on cassette :O I have been replacing my OMD cassettes with LPs in recent years and just bought The Pacific Age on vinyl last week.
Saw OMD in 91 when they supported Simple Minds with the Stranglers and Voice of the Beehive at Maine Road. Apart from the shite weather it was a banger of a day.
I LAUGHED SO MUCH WITH THE ZZ TOP STORY! I WAS(AND AM) A BIG ZZ TOP FAN BUT ALSO LOVED THE NEW WAVE/POP MUSIC COMING OUT IN THE EARLY 80'S. SO GREAT TO HEAR THAT BANDS FROM VERY DIFFERENT STYLES CAN LEARN FROM EACH OTHER. ANDY SEEMS LIKE A GREAT GUY!
Wow takes me back to when i lived in Halifax in West Yorkshire all them years ago , One of the local groups was called "Ovenden Mad Dogs" Ovenden is a part of Halifax btw OMD are great live

Was never into OMD although I was aware of their songs.
Andy comes across as one of the most down to earth pop stars around. Top bloke.
The ZZ Top story just shows that music knows no boundaries.
I urge everyone to by the 'Best of OMD' LP. Every song it 100% amazing.
One of my favorite OMD songs. The beginning is dream-like building up to a very unique melody with a unique tempo, including a lovely brass section. It's very much like a classical waltz.

Hypnotically beautiful
I like OMD's "Pandora's Box", "Secret", and "Talking Loud and Clear".

The 2 joan of arc songs are fantastic.
Joan of Arc & Maid of Orleans

Awesome song and love McCluskey's sense of humor and about ZZ Top. (I want my Royalties) LOL
A beauty of a song. Add some good stories and here we are. Thank you three wonderful humans.
One of my favourite Orchestral Manoevres in the Dark songs and I enjoyed watching this so much.

Terrific band. As others have said, their greatest hits collection doesn't have a bad song on it.
One of the best songs from the 80's. Andy is a fantastic guest.
This is probably one of my favourite OMD songs. ❤❤❤
One my favorite OMD songs. But then again there are so many.

LOVE HEARING these "BACK-STORIES"!! Thanks, Andy, for SHARING!! Thanks, Jay & Amber for this series!! :) HUGS, YA'LL!!

Yes, indeed!
Thanks for finally reacting to my favorite 80s song! And having Andy McCluskey commenting as well was icing on the cake!🧡
their Paciic Age album is so underrated .....OMD is fire!!!!
I agree, but the band themselves don't think much of most of it.

Forgot about that 👍
One of those songs that expanded my taste for music as a teen. Thank you Andy... and Paul.
OMD created one of the smoothest 'machine' background sounds ever
This song got me into OMD in the 80s. Ridiculously talented! I love the ZZTop story 😂
What a top song. This OMD week is fantastic 👍👍👍
I like this song much better than the last one but I totally respect where they came from. Love OMD.

This was on the charts for months in 86. Still have my 7'' single.
Absolutely 80's essential.
