It definitely affects the memorability of the areas. But it _does_ turn out that there are models for building interiors with interactable NPC's from data dumps, so it was likely planned, but scrapped due to scheduling prioritization.

@@ginak5802 Funnily enough I love the charm of SV. I love chilling with the Pokémon. It is the only game where I can just chill with Goomy in a cave. The non aggressive Pokémon coming up to you and being curious adds sooo much charm to me. I wanted this since I was a little girl.
But also I am biased towards SV since it helped me through a HORRIBLE time in my life and now the game is my second favourite after Sinnoh (which also helped me through a bad time of my life).

This is what I mean by scale. No one really want a giant open world pokemon. Literally if they simply just increased the scale of major areas shorten all route but really filled them to the brim with interesting things i.e. just made a more robost Gen 6/7 game S/V could have been incredible.
IT's what these game devs need to learn. Giant lifeless worlds aren't my idea of a good time. Tight but really well made areas with lots of content.

Very few remain memorable from a gameplay perspective and the 3D didn't translate well to exploration or sense of wonder the previous games did well in 2D. It all felt so small and in the moment. Not meant to last or leave strong impressions on their own.

It’s really bizarre. While Alola doesn’t have the most cities at all, it definitely has some of the most memorable (although not really by name). Seafolk Village and Mali City alone are fantastic, and the city Olivia lives in is absolutely beautiful.

@@ScubaShark8857 yeah. It feels like the cities have a purpose and I do love all of them. I really think the trial sites not being cities but instead landmarks really works to alola’s benefit. Or maybe I’m just biased since gen 7 is my favourite Pokémon gen?

Happy to see you pick Ecruteak over Goldenrod because I agree.
For Sinnoh I really love Solaceon Town. It’s at a crossroads for going basically every direction in Eastern Sinnoh, nearby Route 209 is beautiful and it’s part of a decent egg hatching route.
Shoutout to Aspertia City in Unova for being a cool starter town because of the Gym and lookout.
For Kalos I absolutely love Laverre City because of the theme. Circhester in Galar is a cool town as well.
I liked Casscarafa as well because water, but hate that it’s next to the desert so the sand is blowing around a lot. Artazon is probably my favorite. Windmill, hedge maze, playground, lots of flowers, beautiful. I also love the simplicity of Medali. Not a huge town, but has the amphitheater in town, the Treasure Eatery, and has great views of Glaseado Mountain and Casseroya Lake.

Considering that the Lake of Rage was meant to be its own town in the beta, I can’t help but feel that they should’ve merged the scrapped Town of Rage and Mahogany town.
Anyways, I’m a fan of how New Bark Town led into Kanto and it’d be cool if they did it again in a future game but up to eleven. Like having your starting town feature the Pokemon League Reception Gate which leads into Victory Road. So that whenever you go back, you are reminded of what you’re aiming to do.
Hell it’d be cool if Victory Road had the starters present as wild Pokemon since it’d help sell the fact that they’re native to the region and you’d have a full team by the time you get there.

Worst city in Kalos is Lumiose City. That camera and the controls... its just horrific. It just makes me dread having to navigate the place, and makes it impossible to enjoy any of the good ideas there.

Really surprised to not see Hearthome mentioned, my favourite Sinnoh Town! I love how cozy the town feels and there is a lot to do there with the contest hall and taking Pokémon on walk, a gym and you can cook the Poké sweets (forgot their English name). I spent sooo much time there in my first playthrough.

Actually, you do have access to the whole Coumarine city. The part you can see from afar in the upper part is actually the harbor, at the other end of the monorail (just rotated). And between the two, there seems to only be plains, trees and cliffs.
I also kinda like the idea that the upper part of Coumarine and Route 13 is rotated compared to the rest of the region

A friend of mine went on a trip to Japan recently including Osaka and Kyoto so after he got back we had a conversation about how well places in GSC like Goldenrod and Ecruteak translated the key details. Talking about it sounded like they did a great job.
Also agreed that Unova had some amazing cities and towns. It's hard to pick a favorite because they all feel so good? It's almost like some of them feel like subdistricts of a larger metropolis, which... feels pretty fitting, all things considered

Viridian City was my place as a kid! Mostly because when I got a copy of Red, I was too young to speak English yet (being Dutch). I never passed Viridian Forest, so I was always walking around there. Though the music is unfortunately used in more places, it will always feel like my childhood tune. When I eventually passed the forest to Pewter and on, Viridian always felt like home.

Aspertia city was actually my favorite city in BW2 solely because I love the idea of starting in a place that ACTUALLY feels like people live there. We don’t live in a town with three houses and nothing else, instead we live in an actual city with a Pokemon Center and a Gym!

  • @PiercingObstagoon862
    @PiercingObstagoon862 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Yeah, Turrfield has to be the weaker city in imo. Postwick, despite its size is quaint and the theme gives it that small town vibe, and given Spikemuth doesn’t have a Dynamax station, it makes sense that it seems more run down compared to Wyndon or Hammerlock.

Wait, what do you mean with Coumarine City? The area you look down upon from the monorail is just is just the area that you get ON the monorail from, but rotated 90 degrees. Seriously, go to the bottom part of the city and check out that layout, then compare it to the one you see there, it’s identical. In fact, I actually didn’t even know you could look down on it like that until now. That actually makes it stand out a lot more for me.

I agree that Celadon is easily the best city in Kanto. I remember every time I played Red/Blue/Yellow as a kid I would actively look forward to getting to Celadon. Not only does the world literally start opening up to you when you get there, but the access to the department store, the Eevee, the Game Corner, and a little later one of the Snorlax and the HM for Fly just outside the city, really makes you feel like you’re not a weak beginner trainer anymore.

Maybe it because I was born and lived in snowy areas my entire life, but I don't hate Snowpoint City. The quiet atmosphere reminds me a lot of a winter morning when it's just snowed and no cars are out and about. The city is in the shape of a snowflake and aside from one resident here, I have no reason to hate it or call it the worst. I think the worst is honestly Solaceon Town. It's a pretty generic rest stop of a town. The only thing of note is the daycare and ruins and that's not saying much. I wouldn't blame someone if they just popped in the Pokemon Center and went on their way. And while I will say Canalave City is solid, Sunnyshore City is just so much better. It has a big Munchlax Rock, a Lighthouse, a Marketplace, walkways that double as renewable energy, what's not to love?
