Bro you are a life saver. I couldn't figure out how to wire the ignition properly and after hours of searching for instructions I come across your easy 123 video. Thank you for sharing and making it possible for me to install the push to start kit!!!!!!
I would highly suggest the option of splicing in so the key still works. You're relying on a 12$ part to start your car every time. if that switch fails you cant start your car without another hour or two of work. barring that, that is a really cool option!
I cut the ignition wire completely like you advised as to not have the key work anymore and got the button wired up and working but the key still starts the car as well is there something I did wrong or another way around this? Thanks.
+Megan Torres Some people like the aesthetic purpose of it. All I did was move the starting position. If I wanted to, I could have hooked up a switch to turn on the electronics as well. However, then you wouldn't need a key to start the vehicle. I just thought it was a fun little mod to do.
Great video but I noticed on the ignition box you said the grey wire with yellow stripe, however there are two grey with yellow striped wires? Also how come you didn't want to conceal the button? Great how to in any event.. Thanks !
Cool mod to show for so cheap but with our chipped keys and the fact you now have to use both the key and the button just slows you down. But hey, I'm not knocking it. Nicely done. I wonder if you could find a two stage push to start button, a push to engage accessories and then momentary secondary push to start. Third push would disengage accessory and shut car off? If not I'm fixing to start a patent.... With someone I know who's tech savvy. Lol
But then you'd still have to figure hiding the key chip in the column, figure the steering wheel lock(race parts), and also practice being the shit. Ha
This actually helped me alot because i have been thinking about getting a push start ignition for my 02 just rig it a bit different as far as location... So thank you for the upload i greatly appreciate it.... :)
I have a 1999 Lincoln Town Car (Same 281ci 4.6L). And I feel I need to do unnecessary things to it, because using one hand to start my car is too easy. But considering it's the same brand and engine (yes I know the electrical will be a bit different) ya' think this would work with my luxury?
Don't think so.. my (2nd)key rounded an wouldn't turn tumblers. Bypassed that.. still havta mate Pats ring w chip in key. If not in perfect position/3mm range my theft will flash. Broke chip in first key..20 Mile tow ta Ford.. Reflashed pats w new key..I believe...$160+tow.. 8+yrs ago
Couldn't you wire a hidden toggle switch between the push button and the ignition? I want to do this so I could leave the key in at all times and rely on the hidden switch to turn the ignition off and on.
I don't think so, you will still need to figure out a way to turn on the electronics. I don't recommend doing that either, because it makes theft easier.
Those are actually autometer gauges if I remember right. One was a blank hole and the other one has a digital volt meter installed. If you look up dash mounted gauges I'm sure they will come up
I want to do this but I have a question, is it safe to press the button without the key in the ignition? Like for example if a kid or someone decided to press it? The PCM would not register this as a theft threat since the circuit will close without all the other input from the ignition switch? Because I noticed that a neutral safety switch is located on the white/pink wire.
If you want to use the key you do NOT cut the wire, simply splice into it. And you can use almost any wire. Speaker wire or remote wire will be fine. Anything car audio related is okay.
if I wanna use the key also to still start do I just splice both wires from the button to the pink and white or one to the pink and white and one to the grey and yellow???
Michael Lovvorn no, hook it up exactly like I showed you. But instead of CUTTING the white and pink, just splice into it. Everything else is the same. The white and pink only has 1 wire on it.
Hey Alex which color wires on the car would u have to use in order to make a toggle switch for your accessories when your car is off. Other words "the first stage of the key turning"
To be honest, I'm unsure. The process I demonstrated was simply for bypassing the actual ignition switch. If you were to add a toggle switch, it would be done in the same manor just with different wires. If you look in the schematic of your car it will tell you. It's going to be on the same harness.
Great vid, just wondering whats the diameter of the entire button, I'm looking at installing this into the dummy fog light slot and it looks like the one you have would be perfect.
in order for the car to start with the key and the button do you have to splice into the pink and blue or the yellow (or green can't remember) and grey?
I got lucky. I happened to find a button that fit perfectly inside the hole. A lot of people choose to actually make a hole in the dash or trim pieces to accommodate their button.
You would need to add another toggle switch that will take place of the first stage of the key turning. I would not recommend it as theft would be very easy...
+Alex Stangeland ok 1.) it has a weird vibration 2 mechanics looked at it and one changed supports and injectors the second changed a sensor and it still vibrates 2.) the radio stopped working one day (it was someone else in my family's car at the time) and it won't work idk if you can help me with either of these problems😂

Connection no where near to "great" and secondly, NEVER cut so damn close to the plug, leaves no room for fixing it nor repair. Could have gone up about 6-8 inches
thatswhite1 just a fun little mod to make it feel more modern. Wasn’t meant to be anything more than just something that makes it feel more like a racecar is all.
I’m pretty sure the kit from American muscle comes with a chip that bypasses the key..so while you saved $80, all you did was pointlessly add difficulty to starting your vehicle..but hey you only paid $12 bucks 😂🤣😂

did you ever find the mustang lol?
What about the p.a.t system
Great video! Install took less than 30 minutes because of the info from the video.

Do you not have issues with steering lock with just the push button?
This should have a relay between the switch and car.. wondering if the key is off , will the engine turn over if yiu hit the button?.
What was the 2nd wire that was spliced into
I cut the ignition wire completely like you advised as to not have the key work anymore and got the button wired up and working but the key still starts the car as well is there something I did wrong or another way around this? Thanks.
I know this is an old thread, but why not just run one wire to battery and one to silonied on fender easy and works the same
What is the grey and yellow wire connected to? Power? Ground?
I was really with you all the way but really though what's use of a push button start if you still need your ignition moved to work anything

So you don't have to turn the key, AND press the button at the same time to start the car? I've seen other videos were you have to.

Hey Alex, I wouldn't need a relay or a fuse to protect the switch? Also would 12-14 gauge wire be okay to use ?
Yes that will work fine. And no, you do not need a relay or anything. There's not enough power being ran through.
