This is great, thank you. I have the Quantum Cat winders, and sadly one started to split very soon after starting to use it - I guess I was screwing the locking knob too tightly, but it did happen way too easily. Agreed also on the end, it's very awkward. Once I have the 3D printer up and running I'll definitely try Friendly Beans, it looks brilliant.
That's a pity. If the 3D printer files are still available, you might be able to print off a replacement. Alternatively try gluing it back together. I think they were made in PLA.
I recommend going for the v2 winder, which has a herringbone rack and several other improvements. Print at 100% size, otherwise the bearings and bolts will not fit. You likely do not need very long racks, but if you need a long reach, use my rack clamp and a rod to extend.
its crazy how obsolete winders are in terms of being available to purchase anywhere online right now in summer of 2022. Have been creating claymation for many years and always found fun ways to avoid using rigs/winders or any of this stuff, but now im finally faced with a scene where i must use a winder and can't find anywhere online to get one haha! thanks for the vid/tips and links, was so excited to find the links under vid but no longer available most of them
I did notice that there is one available from Julian Clark Studios, based on 20/20 extrusions, so it is quite a chunky item.www.stopmotionshop.com/precision-winder-rig-v2-523-p.asp My best advice is to find a friend with a 3D printer...!
Hello I really want to get a rig like this but all of them on the list in the description you can not get anymore and I can only get the 3d printed one but I don’t have a 3d printer is there any way u can help me out here ?
I can print one for you, if you are in the UK or EU, but otherwise it is a matter of finding someone with a 3D printer who could do it, or using one of the commercial printers.
OddPlanetStudios I’m in the US🤦🏽♂️😁 Thanks I definitely want to try one out I’ll check for one in the states. If you come across one (US seller) please let me know.
@@OfficialTransformers I am sure you will be able to find someone. I used a basic Creality Ender 3 pro filament printer to make this, and it works just fine. Good luck!
I forgot to mention, if you are in the US, why not buy winders from www.quantumcatwinders.com? They are very good, and in some ways better than the fully 3D printed ones, and you will not have to hunt around for a reliable 3D maker. Probably a similar price too.
Nice to see it printed and shown in a video. Thanks for showing this to us!
Have a look at the weight test video too... These are not nearly as good as your metal masterpieces, but they are cheap!
Im new in stop motion and this kind of tool is very useful. I hope i have one of those
Awesome work.
Thanks. looks like you found it on MyMiniFactory. Do be aware that there is now a version 2, which has some improvements over v1.

Great review! Do you have any recommendations for sizing the 3D printed version?
