Black is writing a song that deserves a grammy but doesnt get nominated.
Yess!!
abso wep i mean hes not, he shouted out a white guy in this song you idiot
@abso wep what has he said that is "anti-white"? I'm white and I didnt find anything about what he said "anti-white" or offensive. I actually related to it a lot.
@abso wep actually if you would of asked me that question rather than assume, you would of found out that my political views are center right. The point you make makes zero sense, also you still haven't answered the question. What of what he said is "anti-white"?
@abso wep this is because black people have had to deal with things that white people will never understand. for example if an orphan said orphans are great, he isn't anti people with parents. your logic, in fact shows how ignorant you are. you see something like this and automatically think its about some you (assuming you are white , which you probably are), no it's about giving hope to those black people who needed to hear this.
Don’t have to black to appreciate this absolute masterpiece
For sure. Amazing production and lyrics.

Facts ✊🏿
"least racist is still racist" "equality's a right, it doesn't deserve credit" man is out here explaining the entirety of racism in less than 5 minutes and they can't even teach us a fraction about it in 14 years of schooling
Dave is racist. Most black people are (because they think only white people can be)
Such simple concepts that people just don’t understand. Using the defence of “that country is more racist than ours” doesn’t erase the experience of poc in this country.
I am always amazed to hear that this part of history was left out of the education curriculum in this part of the world. Growing up in a British colony we learnt about the history of the British Empire, it's victories in wars and the Royal family. This incomplete history is still a subject choice for some schools today. Now that I'm older and have read more, I understand why some people can say they did not learn most of this at school. But despite that knowledge gap, most of the commentary has been exceptionally positive and encouraging. Thank you everyone for such encouragement to a young man shaping his career and shaking the world at the same time. I salute.
This never gets old. His eloquence is so worth a regular re-watch.💙...May 2024

He had a choice of any of his songs. Professor X. Disaster. Location. Thiago Silva. He could have promoted himself even more if he wanted. Instead he went for a song with a message, big up dave 🙌🏼
That's what sets Dave apart from every other artist.
All his songs have brilliant messages Dave is a true inspiration, he diesnt real about drugs, money or fcking bitches, he raps about real shit, the truth, things tht need 2 be heard about, he is a legend a one if a kind artist, person, much love brudda keep grinding ❤ keep spreading positivity and love ❤ love from Manchester ❤
MoMo_ Beatz yeh i know, but he chose the one with the best message over the best music still

Predictable
The most powerful Brits performance ever. I still come back to it nearly four years later. I have never experienced any of the pain expressed through the song but the skill and talent of this man makes you feel it. How was he 21 when he did this!?!?!

I’m from the United States of America. And this for the UK. My son is 15 and he introduces me to the UK rap. I must say Im so impressed y’all music is fire. Santan Dave you bought tears to my eyes with song. And I appreciate every word in this song. Dave, Stormzy, Dutchavelli, Aight, tion, Wayne, Central Cee. Keep it coming. You can’t deny Dave is one of the most lyrically talented rappers at the moment.
I agree,
name a rapper who’s better lyrically than him
At the moment u mean he always will be
Nobody except Avelino is at his level
@@samuelhowe7618 wretch 32, akala, lowkey and avileno are all better lyrically even dave wudnt deny that
You know it’s powerful music when it makes you angry about things you never experienced
Imagine you have experienced poverty or being back opressions hurts and kills so many and too many turn a blind eye
Could not have said it better!
My thoughts exactly he’s the man
The thing is, it's not just a song about a race, it's a message about fighting against the cards you've been dealt, doing the best you can, regardless of the odds
Calm down poverty exists in every race, i like the fact he is highlighting the matter
No one understands how balanced your brain needs to be to do 2 things at the same time , playing the piano and singing at the same time , i find it hard to even speak while playing the piano but Dave can sing while playing it. TALENT
THIS!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🤯
if anything, singing is easier, but rapping and playing the piano is mental!
It would have been relatively easier if he was singing. Man is rapping, spitting bars. Damn
He wasn't playing
It’s called repetitive practice.
Im not black, but i am middle eastern. When he said "It's working twice as hard As the people you know you're better than 'Cause you need to do double what they do So you can level them", i really felt that. Specially when it comes to school and grades and my dad when it comes to getting a job and providing for the family. Even though I'm not black, as a minority in a white Scandinavian country, i really felt this too! Love you black brothers and love this song too!
I love that he called out the media bullshitting with kate and megan.
Nusaybah Saad I’m from america, what happened
@@bigboi1228 Basically, he's referencing the media scrutiny that Megan faced compared to Kate. Of which the main problem was not the scrutiny itself but that it was based on her skin colour. Media tabloids just were filled with covert racist messages. When compared to Kate, often Megan would be doing the same things but the media would find something to say that subtly referred to her Americaness and why she was so 'different'. It got so bad at one point this led Megan to say something in a documentary about how she was feeling, she said 'its not enough to jsut survive, it's about living to thrive'. This came after Harry feared that Megan life would end the same as his mother princess Diana, because the media scrutiny was related to her death. Ofcourse Diana's reason for beinf bullied was because she didn't come from Royality, Megan on the other hand is her "urbaness". Lol That's the type of shitt they would use in the media when talking about her. After that interveiw, the media was worse than before. Saying that Megan should shutup and take it, since its a privalege to be part of the royal family. The bullying just got worse and continued. I'm glad Megan and Harry got out, I don't think it would've ended well for Megan if she stayed. Hope that explains it.
Nusaybah Saad Thank you, I understand it now
@ Didn't say kate deserved scrutiny. I have nothing against kate. People always say oh Megan took him away from his family, BUT isn't Harry his own man. Does he not have agency to make choices? He moved away because he wanted to put his immediate family first which is Megan and Archie. Imagine seeing your wife everyday trying to keep her head above water which isn't good for anyones mental health and there's nothing you can do about it. Ofcourse you'll make the same choice, if you had a choice. Harry and Megan made this choice together, they are husband and wife. People make Megan some kind of witch who's sole purpose is to break up the royal family. She wouldn't have tried to be a part of it, if that was her goal. She embraced his family, it's just Britain didn't embrace her.
One more thing, you'll never understand covert racism if you haven't experienced it.
Amy frances ur fucking weird if you think the uk isnt racist towards megan. the only reason harry left was because of the hate megan got and still gets from the media
This guy is only 21.. look at how much he’s achieved in such a small amount of time & he’s only getting started

Just because we always take the credit away from the amasing and heavenly talented black people (not sure if this was the intent here), but I feel a strong urge to comment that it is not humanity that produced the song, it is Dave that produced it, a enormously talented black man.

Had to come back to this after seeing the Brits 2022 Performance. Still Insane.
literally
You’re not the only one bro. Hits me every time
Imagine how racist you must be to think that this song is racist
Exactly, I’m white and I’m embarrassed that there’s even people like that.
Mr Wilkes Booth POC aren’t an unknown lmao they’re people we walk past everyday, people we grew up around, people we spend time with. racism isn’t installed in us it’s learnt by us spending time with people who hold racist beliefs. maybe POC of colour were unknown in the 1700s but it’s 2020 and we’ve coexisted for decades. there’s no excuse to be racist in these modern times.
Mr Wilkes Booth because China isn’t as culturally diverse as the west , 1000 years ago we were only just discovering other land masses with different races on them and other countries have the same issues as China . You act as if people nowadays in western culture have never gone outside and seen a person who isn’t white. POC aren’t an unknown in western society; portraying them as some mysterious other is just an excuse to justify unnecessary racism towards POC. also ‘whilst our culture dies’ ? What are you on about lad? The inclusion of other cultures in the western world doesn’t diminish the prominence of your own culture. The western cartoon business isn’t suffering just because anime thrives in America and the UK. Disney isn’t closing shop because ‘your name’ has a western audience. Also what culture?? Correct me if I’m wrong but America doesn’t really have a culture of its own, since it was yknow Europeans on stolen native land. If you have Celtic descent or any culture you can name then why don’t you take part in it Instead of fretting how the acceptance of POC is diminishing your culture.
@Mr Wilkes Booth ironic considering the English tried wiping out Scottish and Irish culture....
@Mr Wilkes Booth the culture isn't fucking it's just that you see someone who isn't you're skin colour and you think that's bad
I know many don't know who Jack Merrit is, he was a victim in the London Bridge attack in the U.K. who died. He was a prison rehabilitation officer in the U.K., who had worked personally with Dave's brother who is in jail. He gave Jack's parents tickets to watch this at the BRITs and they had no idea it included that extra verse and were "moved to tears" .
Grenfell tower was a tower block in London that went on fire and many people died and left thousands displaced with no hope despite governments empty promises.
Windrush generation is also another refrence to a horrifying act by the incapable government.
Thank you
I did not know about the details about Jack Merrit but listening to this back after reading this managed to bring me to tears
Respect, big up from Norf Weezy
The wind rush generation is the generation of Caribbean people who came to the Uk I’m the 1960s as they were offered opportunities but received no help or anything when arriving
@@blueberryxbugaboo6902 What’s worse is they were literally invited, people from colonies were invited after WW2 due to labour shortages but the government deported many of them as time went on, from what I know it’s because they weren’t documented properly which the government used against them.

What does anyone's age have to do with this? He could've done this 20 years later and it'd be just as impressive
[Verse 1]
Look, black is beautiful, black is excellent
Black is pain, black is joy, black is evident
Workin' twice as hard as the people you know you're better than
'Cause you need to do double what they do so you can level them
Black is so much deeper than just African-American
Our heritage been severed, you never got to experiment
With family trees, 'cause they teach you 'bout famine and greed
Show you pictures of our fam on their knees
Tell us we used to be barbaric, we had actual queens
Black is watchin' child soldiers gettin' killed by other children
Feelin' sick so quick, this could have happened to me
Mummy watchin' tellin' stories 'bout your dad and your niece, listen
The blacker the berry, the sweeter the juice
Kid dies, the blacker the killer, the sweeter the news
And if he's white, you give him a chance, he's ill and confused
If he's black he's probably armed, you see him and shoot, look
[Verse 2]
Black is growin' up around the barbershop
Mummy sayin', "Stay away from trouble, you’re in yard a lot"
Studying for ages, appreciatin' the chance you got
'Cause black is in your blood, and you ain't even got the heart to stop
Black is steppin' in for your brothers because your father's gone
Standin' by your children when you haven't proven karma wrong
Black is doin' all of the above, then going corner shop
Tryna help a lady cross the road to have her walkin' off
Black is growin' up around your family and makin' it
Being forced to leave the place you love because there's hate in it
People say you're faking it, never stay for change in it
But black is bein' jealous, you'd be dead if you had stayed in it
Black is strugglin' to find your history and tracing it
You don't know the truth about your race 'cause they're erasin' it
Black has got a really sour flavour, here's a taste of it
But black is all I know, there ain't a thing that I would change in it
[Verse 3]
Look, black isn't a single colour, man, there's shades to it
Her hair's straight and thick, but mine's got waves in it
Black is not divisive, they been lyin' and I'm hating it
Black has never been a competition, we're all making it
Black is deadly
Black is when you're freezin' in your home and you can't get sleep, but never feelin' empty
'Cause you got twenty cousins in your country living stress-free
Walkin' for their water, daughter wrapped inside a bedsheet
Black is distant
It's representin' countries that never even existed while your grandmother was livin'
Black is my Ghanaian brother readin' into scriptures
Doin' research on his lineage, findin' out that he's Egyptian
Black is people namin' your countries on what they trade most
Coast of Ivory, Gold Coast, and the Grain Coast
But most importantly to show how deep all this pain goes
West Africa, Benin, they called it slave coast
Black is so confusin', 'cause the culture? They're in love with it
Take our features when they want and have their fun with it
Never seem to help with all the things we know would come with it
Loud in our laughter, silent in our sufferin'
Black is bein' strong inside and facing defeat
Poverty made me a beast, I battled the law in the streets
We all struggled, but your struggle ain't a struggle like me
Well how could it be when your people gave us the odds that we beat?
I mean, bloody hell, what about our brothers that are stuck in jail?
That couldn't bust a bail, they held a bird and gotta live with it
Black is bein' guilty until proven that you're innocent
Black is sayin', "Free all my people stuck inside them prison cells"
Think it's funny, we ain't got nothin' to say to them
Unconditional love is strange to them, it's amazin' 'em
Black has really got the sweetest flavour, here's a taste of it
But black is all I know, there ain't a thing that I would change in it
[Verse 4]
It is racist whether or not it feels racist
The truth is our Prime Minister is a real racist
They say, "You should be grateful we're the least racist"
I say the least racist is still racist
And if somebody hasn't said it
Equality is a right, it doesn't deserve credit
Now if you don't want to get it, then you're never gonna get it
How the news treats Kate versus how they treated Megan
Rest in Peace Jack Merritt, you're my brother in arms
There's tears in our eyes and love in our hearts
We never had the same background, culture, colour, or past
But you devoted your life to giving others a chance
And for that, I'm so taken aback
Because it gave us all a voice, I have to say it for Jack
As a young black man seeing paper and crack
Giving tougher sentences, it's just papering cracks
All he would want is unity, funding for communities
Equal opportunities, people under scrutiny
No more immunity, way less hatred
More conservation, less deforestation
We want rehabilitation, now that would be amazing
But Grenfell victims still need accommodation
And we still need support for the Windrush generation
Reparations for the time our people spent on plantations
I'm done
respect for spending time on that
thanks for putting up the lyrics yo

To the U.K. hip hop folks... the crown is yours. We Americans clearly don’t want quality anymore. Take it and run with it. Just bring it back to what it should be. Absolute quality.
Its been ours for 10 years but cheers 🤘
bruh this nigga listening to lil pump and saying hiphop in the US is shit. There are so many good rappers still in the US
Blackman JPEG in the mainstream? GTFOH. Kendrick and Cole are our only REAL soldiers and they get pushed aside for whack ass Cardi B, Young Thug, and everyone else that can’t seem to complete a f*cking sentence. It’s strip club music at best, which coincidently is where it stemmed from. Is there quality? In small pockets perhaps, but nothing on scale of the trash that’s being pumped out 24-7 in major markets. Til Drake can find a team to ghostwrite a rebuttal for Adidon, you can miss me with the bs.
Uk hip-hop surpassed American hip-hop long ago because it is more intellectual and political. I think USA hip-hop became to much about selling record and being shallow to appeal to white audiences. True fact the region in the USA that buys the most hip-hop is Utah one of the whitest regions in the USA because white Americans consume more hip-hop that black people in the USA, which is why mainstream US hip-hop doesn’t say anything political as not to upset their target white audience who want black stereotypes like the mumble rappers and hoes with big butts and boobs like Niki Minaj or Cardi B rapping nonsense

He is the best current rapper and he earned that title with We're All Alone In This Together, the best rap album since To Pimp A Butterfly. The craziest thing is that he's just getting started, he is a generational talent in rap, and people need to recognize him the same way we recognized generational talents like Eminem, Tupac, Lil Wayne, and Kendrick in year's past. I have no doubt that by the end of his career he will be one of the best rappers of all time, right there with the names I listed before.
