A lot of people wonder, 74 years of this and why a rebellion now? It has less to do with a 12 year old girl dying, and way more to do with the respect and kindness Katniss showed Rue even after her death. The districts are conditioned to hate each other and root against each other. While there have been cross-district alliances before, this is the first time audiences really saw the true respect and love and care between two tributes from different districts. In the book, District 11 even sends Katniss a loaf of bread as thanks for helping and caring for Rue. Not only was this unheard of, but District 11 being a poorer district, the whole district had to band together to pay for it.
She missed the first shot because it's a metal bow, and she's used to wood. But that one shot was enough for her to calibrate herself to this bow, so it's still very impressive!
@@jesusamaya459 they describe it more in the book, but because they were advised not to give away their skills, that was the first time Katniss had ever picked up the fancy Capitol tech bow. I don't remember the exact reason, but I think it was something to do with the string tension or draw weight
That 3-fingered gesture, in the books, is something they do at funerals. So when Katniss volunteers as tribute, the townfolk are saying goodbye in a respectful and reverent way. That gesture, as the movie continues, become one of revolution.
If I'm not mistaken, you can still end up going to the Hunger Games at 18, you only really escape when you become 19. This is one of the saddest parts between the Rue and Thresh duo, Rue had just turned 12, so she was chosen in her first year, and Thresh was 18, he almost got free.
You guys have to think about Cato and creepy knife girl as child soldiers. Its the same mentality. They were raised to be weapons, taught to feel and show now empathy, told they should volunteer for the glory of their district at 18. They're still victims of the system. They never got to be children. They were raised like pigs for slaughter and Cato realized that at the end.
It's essential for them to enjoy it or at minimum be completely neutral (honestly they should have aimed for that. Knife girl would have most likely survived the encounter with Katniss and Thresh if she didn't do her little villain monologue because she enjoys the whole thing so much she wants to drag out the killing process). Any normal kid if faced with another kid they have to kill would hesitate. And that hesitation could either mean a missed kill (like fox girl and Katniss in the beginning) or being killed.
Katniss' mom went catatonic when the dad died and Katniss(super young at the time~under 12) had to take over being head of the family so that's why she was talking to her mom like that before she left for the games.
@@terryjohnson5579 All the flour, flour everywhere. Thought you got a care package? Surprise! Here's your container of flour courtesy of Peeta. Thought you found a good water supply? Psyche, now you have mushy flour. My god, he would be a menace.
Don't worry, you're FAR from the only people to underestimate this particular film series. I think folks hear "adapted from YA books" and assume that it'll be lightweight, silly, or overly-focused on "teenage" drama. Instead they get one of the most jarring and harrowing explorations of war, oppression, and public manipulation. Great reactions, and I'm excited to see you experience the rest of them! :)
Agreed. I tried to get my sister to watch the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe with me when it came to theaters and she was like no way that's dumb until she saw the trailer. It's a really good book and movie. She then trusted me when TLOR came out.😅
With all my love to the books and movies, I don’t think she herself understand war or even revolution. I guess soviet writers would be way better at it since they saw it themselves or was in the front. This experience actually shows difference.
@@hashaintswanseriously? Did you know she grew up as a military brat? Offhand I think you need to understand a great deal more about both Suzanne Collins and Scholastic Books which is who she wrote the series for.
One thing about Katniss is that a lot of her skills are red flags for the Capitol for someone from District 12. She shouldn't know how to hunt or survive in the woods because there are no woodlands in 12. The only woods are beyond the fence and she isn't supposed to go there. She is illegally crossing the fence and hunting for survival. An arena like this should have been a disadvantage for her and Peeta. Peeta doesn't have the survival skills but he is an artist so can use his skills in painting for camouflage. He is also quite well fed and physically strong for someone from 12, since he lives in a bakery. They are the best tributes District 12 has had since Haymitch, and his games were 24 years prior.
@@jportega9404I heard a new book after The book about President Snow was being made but I didn’t know it was going to be the 50th games about Haymitch that’s pretty exciting.
This isn’t a spoiler, just some knowledge from the second book that they won’t really explain in the next movie that I wanted to share about Haymitch and the past hunger games. Haymitch telling katniss at the end that “they don’t take these things lightly” is actually from personal experience. He pulled a bit of a stunt himself in order to win his hunger games. He found a cliff at the edge of the arena which was lined with an invisible barrier. He threw some rocks at it, finding out that anything that hits it bounces right back to where it came from. In his game, it was a “quarter quell”. These games are particularly special with bigger arenas, more flashiness, and some new rule/event for the game. These take place every 25 years. For the 25th, the special rule was that every district got to vote for who would go in, which is horrible. The districts basically got to choose between what kid they thought would have the best chance of winning, or just the kid they didn’t like the most. Either way, the kids going into the hunger games knowing they weren’t there due to bad luck, but because the people they see everyday decided they would be the one to go, which is heartbreaking. The 50th game (Haymitch’s game) the special rule was there would be double the tributes, so two girls and two boys from every district, resulting into a total of 48 kids fighting to the death. Haymitch and this girl from district 2 (I think) were really roughed up. They were the last two alive. I believe she had basically lost an eye, and he was running away literally having to hold his organs inside of his stomach due to how bad his injuries were. He remembered the barrier. He ran to where he was throwing rocks before with the district 2 girl determined to finish him off. They get to the cliff with the barrier, and she throws her axe at him. He collapses, laying on the floor, allowing the axe to pass over him. She doesn’t move, basically thinking that his injuries are severe and she was also tired and just lost her weapon and assumed that he’d just die soon. But in a few seconds, her axe comes bouncing back off of the barrier, the blade embedding into her head, killing her on impact. This “stunt” did not make the capital, especially President Snow happy. They determined it as rebellious and as an act of defiance since they had never meant for the arena barrier to be used as a weapon. In response, they killed Haymitch’s family in district 12 as well as his girlfriend, leaving Haymitch completely alone when he came back from the games. After all of that, he has to mentor every other tribute from district 12 since he is the only victor there. So yeah. Haymitch is understandably traumatized and doesn’t try to get attached to either Katniss or Peeta at the beginning since for the last 24 years, he’s watched kids he’s gotten attached to die. There’s also a moment earlier in the movie where Haymitch stops talking when he sees Cato staring at them, most likely reminding him of the district 2 girl that was very close to killing him. So that warning he gave Katniss about them not taking things like this lightly, he was most likely terrified for both her and her family due to what happened to him. Anyway, the next hunger games, Katniss and Peeta will be mentors since got knows Haymitch got his fair share. So not only would we be seeing Katniss and Peeta as mentors, but also as mentors for the 75th hunger games. A quarter quell.
Peeta is really in love with her. He's not playing the game. Katniss is but she's starting to like him. You can see this when she freaks out thinking he ate the poison berries.
It's more obvious in the books: Katniss always had a soft spot for Peeta even before the games, because of the the time Peeta gave her bread when she was really starving in the rain. So when Peeta gets chosen for the games Katniss thinks "no, please not him"
Interesting thought about Lenny Kravitz's character having dressed many kids for death. In the books, that character is younger and it is supposed to be his first year as a stylist. We don't know anything about his backstory except that Katniss trusts him completely and she trusts no one (Katniss' POV is funny because she is always trying to figure out what Peeta's angle is when he is clearly just crushing on her.)
I'm so glad to find new reactors who've never seen The Hunger Games for the first time. A bonus: You two are naturally hilarious :D Can't wait for you to see the next part. The books are much darker in my opinion (Audible has a great audiobook rendition). Subscribed!
@ in my opinion this is one of the few series where the sequels are actually just as good as the first. I’m so excited for you guys you’re gunna really like these!
@ 1. Divergent is very cringe very fun, it was lost in the wake that was Hunger Games. 2. (hear me out) Pride & Prejudice, it’s funnier then you remember i swear. 3. I Am Number Four is fun and no one EVER watches it. 4. Percy Jackson, also not that great but that makes it great in return. 5. Bridge To Terabithia, bring tissues. 6. The Lovely Bones, another CHEFS KISS Tooch movie. 7. The Davinci Code (unless you’ve seen it). 8. Holes, under appreciated Disney movie. 9. Chronicles of Narnia, it’s better then i remembered. 10. The Help, bring more tissues. 11. Treasure Planet, based on ‘Treasure Island’. 12. Zuthura, another Josh Hutcherson movie. 13. Journey to the Center of the Earth, ANOTHER Josh Hutch film. 14. The Boy In The Striped Pajamas. 15. Princess Diaries- to name a few😂
Peeta loses his leg after the games, but that isn’t shown in the movie. It’s important to remember to think of his limits with a newly amputated leg in the following movie! They had to keep the impacts of the injury in for storylines purposes but because they cut the cause - many movie watchers thought he was clumsy or weak or that people were concerned about him for no real reason!
Suzanne Collins, the author of the series, said she got inspiration for the books when she was flipping through channels on her TV and saw clips of the Iraq war and then seeing inane reality shows where people will compete for prizes. She said those realities started blurring and could become indistinguishable on what is considered sensationalized. I think the prequel "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" does a fantastic job on how a society can become so desensitized to such evil and despicable acts.
Not just desensitized but justify. Attack on Titan does a great job of pointing out the "well their ancestors did it worse therefore we can do x" hypocrisy.
Well, it's kind of happening all over the world right now, where children are dying and people have been desensitized to the violence and to other people's plight because we're so far removed from them.
Yup.. every morning I wake up, open my social media, the first top of my page is another child died of bombing. I'm sick of it when I think I can't do anything about this whole situation.
@@yusriyarofifahalimah1805 Yep. My therapist just suggested I go on a news ban because it's adding an extra burden on my mental health. @@Carpathianpixie no, actually banning news is basically putting you inside an echo chamber...maybe you'd be less depressed, but your humanity is gone with it because you refuse to recognize the ongoing atrocities. I have actually forgotten the last time I was happy since the atrocious campaign started...but I refuse to turn it off because that's how I know I haven't lost my humanity.
I’m so sat for this series. You guys deserve way more views. The three fingers was a tradition usually reserved for district 12 funerals. It’s a sign of respect. I really love how you guys can have so much commentary and not miss much. Can’t wait for these movies! Catching Fire is the best.
You joke about her just turning and ending Peeta after the change gets revoked but in the book, she sees his arm move and she instantly has an arrow pointed at him. But he was just lifting his arm to drop his knife dramatically (if I remember correctly) and she has a flash of guilt for doubting him.
46:51 the first man to turn around was Rue’s dad. that’s why he didn’t care anymore his daughtrt was killed. katniss’s gesture was enough for him to make that decision. There’s a shot of rue’s family in the beginning of the next movie and you’ll notice her dad isn’t there. He was killed for what he did
In the books, that was not Rue’s dad. Rue’s mother was a single mother, her husband previously dying. That man was someone who couldn’t take anymore child killings.
One of the big things that the book tries to emphasize without directly saying it is that Katniss's humanity in the face of all of this is really what sparked the rebellion. Like Snow was saying in the little speech "A little hope is good but too much is bad as it can't be contained". Katniss volunteering for her sister, when nobody else does. Even Peeta has multiple siblings and none of them even consider it. Katniss being open during the interviews about being kind of worried troubled but determined. Then finally showing Rue true humanity in her death, singing to her, crying and greiving for her, decortaing her in flowers and giving her the final funeral salute. Treating her truly as a little girl that suffered instead of as a competitior, is something that was just never seen. In the world the struggle for survival was so great that people didn't have the freedom for humanity especially for someomne not from their district. It was just unheard of, nobody had that much kindness to pass around for anyone else let alone an almost stranger. So that humanity that humanness was a spark. It showed them they don't have to be divided they don't have to hate or fear the other districts, its the capitol that is showing them a true lack of humanity. The bread they sent her from district 11 was stated in the book as the first time ever another district has sent an item to a tribute from a different district, that was a sign from the districts themselves of thanks and unity. Then the berries was a final show of active defiance to the capitol from Katniss. On their own turf where they are suppossed to be in total control she had the will to say "we won't live and die by your rules" that truly put fuel to the flame. That bit of hope had truly been lit by a girl not knowing what she was doing but being willing to treat those around her with humanity, respect, and to aim her disdain at those in power not her fellow oppressed people.
The books are TOTALLY worth reading. I love the movies too, I think they did a good job (as book to movie adaptions go) but in the books we have the benefit of hearing Katniss’s inner monologue, and it sheds a lot of light onto the social dynamics that the movies just can’t fully translate.
As always, amazing. The books will always contain more detail and explanation of course, but I thought the way they subbed Katniss’s inner monologue for Caesar explaining to the audience was the perfect book to movie translation. I don’t know that the mockingjay ever really gets a good explanation in the films, but basically the Capital created these “jabberjays” to spy on people by listening and repeating what they say, but people clued in pretty quickly and then just lied to the birds rendering them useless. They just let them go free, where they mated with the mocking birds, creating mockingjays that can still mimic. I really think you guys are going to absolutely love this whole series - usually there’s at least one that is weaker than the rest, but for Hunger Games I don’t find that to be true. I can’t wait to see the rest!
One underesrimated aspect of this franchise is how good it is at visual storytelling and implications. The whole background of Katniss' father's death, her mother's depression and the fact that Katniss and Primm were starving are shown in bits, be how she and Gale bonded over hunting, how Peeta throw her bread and how Katniss told Primm to never ask for extra food, because that meant putting her name extra times in the ballot. It also implies that Gale probably had a big family and was helping Katniss, because even while hunting and selling the meat, he had put his name in more than 40 times.
The girl who died from the berries was actually very clever! If you go back and watch the training montage, she is successfully identifying every single berry and plant. She knew exactly what she was eating and had no intention of dying by anyone else’s hand.
@@ptitepeluche05Katniss is an unreliable narrator, especially in the books. This is shown in the way she describes Peetas actions and his feelings for her as fake or as a way to one up her. It's also explained when they do the plant test they're not picking specific groups of flowers from each district they're doing all of them so yes Foxface did do the plant test and she did know each plant which is why everyone suggests that Foxface did this to die her own way.
The capitol is so messed up; in the books, the mutts were modeled after the fallen tributes. Katniss described mutts that looked like Rue, Glimmer, and Foxface. The Capitol wasn't just putting on a show; they were trying to traumatize the children in the games as much as humanly possible.
Amazing reaction, really funny....yall noticed things no other reactor I've seen has, like the beasts at the end walking away and not eating their victim because they're just trained to kill, or immediately recognizing Haymitch's trauma from being in the games and a mentor. A lot of people see his first scene and are like, wow, what a jerk.... But yall hit the nail on the head, he survived the games he was in - and more than that, every year since then he has almost personally sent off two children from his own district to their death. He is NOT okay. Also as good as that was and as much as yall loved it, I cannot WAIT for the next one. It cranks things up to unimaginable levels. I'll be checking out your other videos now, looking forward to more of you two. ❤
Jennifer was 20, Liam was 21, Josh was 18. As main cast members if they were under 18 & therefore were minors they couldn't work the same hours due to labor laws.
One of my favorite books, and it's exactly what you said, the anxiety I felt was surreal, while I was reading it seemed like it was happening to me, thanks to the writer for the great writing. Please keep reacting to the other films, the next one is even better AND there's still The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. ❤
Watching it now guys and Gale's name is in 42 times because he took extra entries to provide food for his family. Their district is very poor! I love these movies...so good!! Hope y'all had a nice Thanksgiving
Please don't make us wait for the next parts! Loved your reactions. You guys banged the nail on the head with Peeta and Katniss. Peeta really likes her and his family owns the bakery so they were better off then Katniss and her family. Where katniss has always kept to herself and focused on survival because they almost starved after their dad passed. The bread peeta through to her was the first food she and Prim had in weeks. So Katniss isn't really in the mindset for dating and boys, she just wants to keep her sister safe. So she has never really thought about having a boyfriend or anything cause she just doesn't have time for that.
You will absolutely adore this franchise, I know it. The horrible idea behind the games is so parallel to our world, like if you're too worried fearing for your life you wouldn't have time to rebel. Will, thank you for pointing out that the trained tributes are also victims of this system, there are no winners under the oppression of the capitol. And I'll subscribe to Patreon as soon as I get a job lol things are crazy here in Brazil.
I never get why people don't believe cake decorating (most likely with ingredients & in ways that are innovative because they don't have the best supplies in the districts), interest in art & knowing things like color theory wouldn't translate to Peeta's camouflage skills. Just like people that have a musical "ear" & can just create beautiful songs with little traditional practice, some people just have "it".
I often find it ironic that people laugh at the dress of people in the capital, when there are people that dress like this today and the type of dressing and styles are getting more and more elaborate.
I didn’t see the follower account when I started watching these reactions. I assumed they were a Megha channel based on how hilarious they are if you like them you’ll probably like the everyday Negro’s reaction channel 2. They are equally funny. @@ReelReviewHQ Very happy to be here, thanks for the laughs, I was subscribed as soon as I heard your “I’m a killer Bella!” Impression, had to double check you weren’t Aussie, as that’s something I say all the time and said exactly the same way. Right. Didn’t they mix in the DNA of the dead tributes into the design of the dogs? I can vaguely remember Katniss seeing the face (or the eyes) of one of the tributes when they were attacking her.
Yes . And how they have the same eyes as the previously killed participants. I do not believe that the capital is going to waste a good dead body. I absolutely believe they for real used the tributes actual eyeballs.
This is the BEST reaction I’ve ever seen to the hunger games. You’re the only channel who realised that you the audience are becoming complicit in the culture of the games by rooting for Katniss and wishing ill-will on Cato and having to catch yourself for buying the “show” of the games. It was fascinating watching the press around these movies when they came out, because our media was acting precisely like the Capitol’s media - focusing on the love story and the drama - when that is exactly what the movies (and the books) are vilifying.
Okay Gale's entries are at 42 because he has a lot of siblings, and his family is poor. His father died in the same mine accident that killed Katniss' father. When you turn 12 your name goes in 1 time. But you also become eligible to sign up for extra food for each member of your family at a cost of 1 entry per person. And the entries are cumulative. I presume Gale has 5 siblings because that would mean 7 members of the family if you include his mother and 42 divided by 7 is 6 which is the number of years he's been in the drawing at the age of 17.
Oh thank goodness. I'm so glad one of you knew his name is Peeta. It's painful to watch a full reaction with the reactor calling him Peter over and over!
In the testing those are the game makers not the sponsors. They are being tested to get the score which helps the sponsors decide who has a good chance to win. She misses her shot because the draw weight of the bow she uses is significantly different from the one she is used to and she didn't practice with it before.
The wasps were created during the rebellion 74 years ago I believe. They were used against the districts. Fyi the movie doesn't do a good job explaining the term "mutts". They use it in reference to the dog creatures, which is accurate, but it is actually a more general term. It refers to any genetically altered organism. So the tracker jackers are also mutts. The term is shortened from the word "muttations" which is an altered from of "mutations". They use it throughout all the films and reactors usually think that they are talking about the dogs and then get confused when the dogs don't show up.
I just think it's really amusing that you call the Ceasar Flickerman interview 'Colbertesque." Because in the 2016 election, Colbert did a thing called the Hungry for Power Games where he imitated Flickerman counting down the eliminations of potential presidential candidates at the caucuses. It was pretty funny stuff.
The three finger salute is a funerary custom in 12 meaning great admiration and farewell. Also in the books the ending was way more brutal, the animals drag Cato into the cornucopia and maul him all night while Katniss and Petra have to listen and it’s not until the next morning that Petra holds Katniss over the edge so she can put him out of his misery
I really love watching other people react to my favorite movies, since it gives me the experience of watching it for the first time secondhand. If you’re wondering if Katniss even liked Peeta for real… so Katniss never thought she could be in a relationship because in district 12 she’s been on flight or fight mode. It’s not something that comes natural to her so it did throw her off that peeta liked her. She definitely didn’t want to entertain that thought but had to for the games. But when she saw that he was genuinely kind, pure hearted & honest unlike most ppl in her life… it created a soft spot in her heart. Seeing Peeta as potential love scared her too & wanted to keep him at a distance.

Great great GREAT reaction! You guys had me in stitches at points. It’s rare for me to enjoy a reaction where people are cracking jokes with this series, because the subject matter is so grim and I want people to engage with it seriously. But I feel like you perfectly walked the line. I could tell you were genuinely gripped and were taking in how heavy it was, and also joking. I loved it. Can’t wait to see you react to the rest of the films. In my opinion this series is one of the best, if not THE best, book-to-film adaptations. The story only gets more intense and gripping from here.
A little on the career districts where Cato and the knife girl were from. In the series, districts 1, 2, and 4 (although the films cut out 4 being a career district), which are considered the more “privileged” districts. There the kids train from a young age to then volunteer when they’re older to compete in the games. They are conditioned to believe that going into the games is an honor and if you win, you bring glory to your district. But in the end, they are also just victims of the system, they’re still just kids being sent off to die for the Capitol’s entertainment. And I think Cato’s speech at the end is when he realizes that. Loved the reaction guys.
4:08 this part gets me EVERY TIME. when caesar asks "what defines your personal signature" and it immediately cuts to a 12 year old screaming for her life in her nightmares as he takes a breath to explain... his signature is the terror and the grisly, publicized murder of children. I never see reactors talk about that, and I wish they would, although its a little less obvious than other social commentary in comparison so i understand. it is just such a great choice on the filmmakers' part.
One of the more insidious bits of propaganda around the games is how they focus on which district killed each person in the games, so the districts also felt resentful at each other and less likely to rebel against the capitol. The reason Rues death changed things is that it was a gesture of empathy and solidarity between two districts as well.
I love that you called it a Colbert-esque interview. Because when this movie came out, Colbert literally did a Hunger Games bit for that year's election cycle cosplaying as this guy 😂 it was spot on and he really would have nailed that role, too
Thinking Peeta had actually turned into a rock for a sec was hilarious! Thank you for this reaction. I LOVE this series, other than HP it’s one of my all time favs! I can’t wait to see the other videos!
The reason Katniss missed her first shot was because the capitol’s bows & arrows are made out of metal. She did not practice with one because she was hiding her talent. Her bow & arrow at home was made of wood (her father made it for her,) so she knows the feel of her own. A metal one? It took her one shot to get used to the feel of it. Yes, whenever you win the games, you get a mansion in the Victor’s Village and all the money you will ever need for the rest of your life. And each year after, you are a mentor to the new tributes every year for the rest of your life. Hamich is the only one from District 12 that has ever won, so he’s their mentor. We’ll have to see how Katniss and Peeta do as the new mentors from District 12… NEXT on RRHQ! ✨😁✨

Happy belated turkey day- I’m excited for you guys to get through the hunger games. @@ReelReviewHQ the more lore (which isn't even necessary but it adds to the experience) the more horrifyingly real it becomes- definitely gives you something to chew on
I know the three-finger salute was done for specific reasons in the book, but it's been ages since I read** it. I think it was done at funerals in the book. My brain associates it with "we stand with you" ... or, quite literally, giving the middle finger to the upper class AND standing by it. I'm Deaf, and was in college when these were released.... I made my text tone the whistle that Rue came up with, and my peers started doing the three finger salute to let me know my phone went off. It became a running joke with my friends, especially in a quiet space. Can't WAIT to see you react to the rest of them! These movies are absolutely magnificent, and not at all what I expected. Not easily impressed (aside from accurate captions 🤣) but these movies and the pure ferocity and dead-pan gut-kicks make this series one of my all-time favorites. If you thought this was dark, this was just the surface of it all. You're gonna like the rest of them! First time watching, y'all and already subscribed! As a Deafie, channels that do reactions often have half-sentences, lots of mumbling, and very inaccurate (if not outright insulting) captions. Yours were on-point and clear, to the point that I hardly noticed them - and believe me, if I notice when they're wildly off-kilter, I won't watch that creator again. Kudos for accuracy! **I make it a point to read the books before seeing a book-based movie, not only to get the bigger picture, but to solidify the characters and backstories in my mind before seeing their faces on screen. If I read a book after seeing the movie, my brain says "that's not how it goes!" and the movie becomes my brain's canon. You should've seen me trying to read LOTR ... I was a mess. Also, I refuse to critique a book or movie until I've got enough of it under my belt to say I gave it a fair shot. Some movies and books are good by their own right, but for very different reasons, especially with artistic license and costumes and filler dialogue that explains things the books gloss over. Happy to see where you go from here!
You guys have upgraded from the wrinkly sheet to a pretty new electric fireplace and lights and two plants you have to keep alive…. Wowwwww suddenly the bois get a patreon and they get a budget! Hahaha ❤
The reason the Capitol reaps random children from each district is to break their spirits, their will to rebel, by demonstrating its power: "See? We can take what you love most and destroy it; so don't even think about rebelling again." Remember what Snow said? "Why do we have a winner? Hope." A little hope keeps the experience from being completely brutal, and actually serves to perpetuate the system. A completely brutal system with no hope would more easily lead to rebellion. This is a well-crafted world, with disturbing parallels to our times.
It’s so horrific, and so easy to see the parallel to our own world, I truly hope the capital gets what’s coming in future installments, thanks so much for watching with us and this awesome insightful comment!
hey so i've been a major hunger games nerd since primary school and this was hysterically fucking funny, holy shit??? i was actually crying with laughter at the stanley tucci hallucination bit, i'm So Stoked to see your guys' reaction to the sequels too. today has been a really hard day and this was absolutely delightful to watch so thank you for that
First time I’ve seen you two and I’m subscribing. Games, Potter, and Twilight? I’m definitely jumping on this train. In response to your commentary: Katniss and Peeta got lucky with a forest arena. Tributes can be dropped in the tropics, in the desert, or on snowy mountaintop (that wasn’t good for ratings though, since it just looked like all those kids were falling asleep). And the stealth approach? That only works as long as there are bodies dropping somewhere else in the arena. If the Capitol viewers get bored, there’s a fire, an avalanche, a bunch of savage animals suddenly attacking, etc. A girl who cracked under the pressure and lost her mind won because they flooded the arena and she was the only one left who knew how to swim.
The perfect amount of hilarious commentary without missing things 🫶🏻 that was awesome! You're going to LOVE the second one. Can't wait to watch the rest with yall! ☺️ subscribed!
Great reaction! It was really nice how much you both acknowledged and pointed out that the tributes from district 1&2 (the career pack) were also victims of their circumstances as well. It is easy to see how ruthless they are and forget that they are also just kids, kids who were conditioned to think this way. They might be the "Villains" inside the arena but they are victims of this system as well. Cato's speech at the end really solidified that "I'm dead anyways. I always was right? I didn't know that until now" it's him coming to terms with the situation, him realizing that he had always been a piece for them to make good tv. From the moment he started training for the games as a kid, he was just a pawn. Really looking forward to seeing y'all's future reactions to this series!
Name submissions are cumulative. Also you can purchase additional rations for yourself and each of your family members and the price is putting your name in again for each time you purchase rations. So basically the poorer you are the more likely you are to be chosen.
You both have a great balance between being invested in the movie and humor. Very much enjoyed this. Both the books and the movies are wonderful. I look forward to seeing you watch the rest of the movies. First time seeing this channel. Liked and subscribed 👍🏽
"...destroyed that easily?" In the book, the one who set up the mines was the kid left behind to guard the stash. HE set the pile up to be destroyed. He knew his time with the group was limited, so he set it up to blow it himself before he bolted.
There's about 21min of deleted scenes you could look up and watch on this movie. More than movie 2-4 combined. My guess is the producers wanted to make sure it would do well in the box office before making the movies longer. Anyway, one of the scenes is Katniss receiving bread sent from district 11. In her head Katniss imagined the district taking up a collection to send Rue, and when she died decided to send it to her instead. Katniss watched the games from home her whole life, and couldn't recall a district sending another tribute a gift before. I'm sad they left this out, any unity between the districts is something the Capital doesn't want.
Katniss missed the first shot because of the weight of the bow and arrow, she is used to a wood bow and makeshift arrows, the ones in the capitol are way lighter thats why se needs to ajust the second time
The only downside about finding your channel this early in your "reaction-career" is that I have to wait to watch the rest of your reactions to movie series like this! Love your reactions!
You guys are my new favorites. Don’t change a thing. You’re so naturally funny. Great first reaction and they keep getting better, darker, and more complex and profound. The amount of depth you got from this first movie was impressive, I can’t wait to hear what you think as the world expands.
So glad I found your channel! You guys bring a really funny but comfortable vibe that I just adore. And perfectly bounce off each other! Excited for the Hunger Games series… I just finished watching y’all’s Twilight ones
Also haymitch won the 50th games where they had 42 fighters and the entire field the entire arena was poison. Since then nobody in twelve has won so he's watching around 50 kids from home get murdered for entertainment
There was also a cannibal contestant so when ya see airlift grabbing bodies it's cuz that. A contestant started eating the people he killed and they had to bring in spec ops peacekeepers to stop him. Wild fucking games and they all kids.
your commentary throughout this was legitimately so intelligent and engaging! super impressed. made it fun to watch along, also, your mics are like asmr quality or something lmao; it made the audio sound like you really WERE up there commentating with stanley’s character. great video! ❤
46:10 In the movies they cut out the reason Peeta's leg is injured. In the book it explains that Cato returns to the tree where Katniss was and Peeta fights him so she can escape. And in the book Peeta lose his leg 46:44 The people in District 12 use it as a long-standing gesture of respect, thanks, or goodbye
Oh and just for extra context, the districts are as follows: The Capitol - Center of Panem, they hold the Government here and are the wealthiest region. The Capitol is described as being located in the Rocky Mountains, with the "official" maps used in the films showing it around the area between Montana down to the very top edges of Colorado and Utah, abouts. The districts effectively work to support the Capitol, putting them in varying states of poverty that greatly increase as the number of district rises. 1 - Luxury products, located near the capitol. They are the wealthiest district and, as explained in the film here, one of the Career Tributes, meaning yes, they are trained and conditioned for the games from birth pretty much. Region is up in Idaho, Montana ish area. 2 - Precious Metals, Masonry, and Peacekeepers, located near the capitol, they are miners but in a far better way than in 12, and are also responsible for the training and, effectively, production of the Peacekeepers, who are the military and police force. Region wise, they're located around Arizona and Colorado. 3 - Technology, they are the scientists and engineers of Panem, being known for their intelligence and smarts. They are located in the Midwest around Iowa and Illinois. 4 - Fishing, in the film they aren't listed as being a career district but in the books they are. They're noted as being physically fit and excellent swimmers, being conditioned on the sea as well as in the Career training. 4 is located along the West Coast in California and Oregon mainly. 5 - Power/Electricity, they control and maintain the power sources of Panem, such as the hydroelectric dams. As such, they are also located near the capitol, mainly around the New Mexico/Nevada area approximately. 6 - Transportation, they produce everything from hovercrafts to trains to trucks and cars. If you see any of those, it was made in District 6. They're located around the Michigan area, spreading north into parts of Canada. 7 - Lumber, Paper, and Building supplies, these tributes are notably well versed in the uses of axes and in activities such as tree climbing. One of my favorite tributes, who you will eventually meet, is from here (those who know who I mean, know). Not a Career district but can definitely be lethal, simply because of the nature of their work. 7 is located in Washington and British Columbia. 8 - Textiles, they are located in the central south, think places like Arkansas and Mississippi. 8 marks the beginning of the districts known as the Outlying Districts, where poverty becomes more and more pronounced as the numbers grow. 9 - Grains, they are noted as being just about as bad off in terms of likelihood their tributes will become victors, as District 12. If I remember correctly, they're almost considered cursed because of how unlikely they are to have a victor. They're my personal favorite district though, because 9 is my favorite number. They're located in the Great Plateau region, think around the Dakota's up into Canada area. Noted for sprawling farmlands that produce food that goes straight to feeding the capitol, despite most people, like 12, starving and living in varying states of poverty. 10 - Livestock, located in Texas, Arizona, and down into Mexico. Like 9, they produce foodstuffs in the form of meat but it gets shipped primarily to the capitol. They also produce goods like leather products. 11 - Agriculture, mainly producing fruits and vegetables, like the prior two districts, they are producing foodstuffs mainly being sent to the capitol. This district is meant to be a direct comparison to pre Emancipated southern states, and as such they are located in the deep american south, from Georgia westward to Oklahoma. They are also notably largely folks of color for that reason. 12 - Coal Mining, they are notably located in the mid-appalachian region of the US, which is actually where they filmed this district! It's actually a place in I believe South Carolina (could be North, I kinda forget... One of the Carolinas) that was a former cotton milling town! They're noted to have incredibly low odds in terms of the games, with only, after this games number 74, having 4 total victors, one of which is now dead from old age because of how long ago they won. As such, you can see why Haymitch is so disillusioned and deeply traumatized. 24 years of watching his tributes repeatedly being slaughtered with no hope of winning until Katniss and Peeta come along. Plus what the Capitol put him through, but spoilers. 13 - Located in the North Eastern US, and into Canada, it is believed to have been completely destroyed during the Dark Days and now seemingly lays abandoned in ash and rubble. Previously, they produced weaponry, nuclear related things, and graphite. Again, not saying anything else though because spoilers! Panem as a whole is a sort of post-apocalyptic North America, in a world where they don't know if anyone else outside of Panem even exists anymore or if they're what is left of humanity. Which is to your point of how this would never be allowed in our current society, but in the Hunger Games world, Panem is considered to be it. There is no one else. Hope this helps explain the whole structure of Panem a bit more!
While you guys go through this journey just remember Katniss is still a teen, she had to grow up fast, and had no time to be a kid that makes mistakes, because of her dad's passing, but she is still a teen (around 16-17 if i'm not mistaken) going through all of it. I just see so many reactors that forget that and get caught up in stuff that doesn't matter
God, I watched a lot of reviews of The Hunger Games after watching yours, and I just compared everyone to you - you are incomparable 🥰🤩 your charisma, your jokes, your reactions to important or interesting moments, your empathy, your interaction with the plot and creating your own tricks based on this - I just love it
No way is this your first channel that you started only like 3 month ago. It’s so well recorded and edited, and your reactions are awesome too! I would’ve thought you were doing this for years 😁 I am definitely subscribing and can’t wait to see more of your reactions ❤
Wow, thank you! We have really been trying to up our game with every new video we put out, y’all deserve great quality if you’re going to give us the time of day! So truly thank you for watching with us!

Reminds me of people from the US going to Red Note and talking with Chinese people for the first time.
She missed the first shot because it's a metal bow, and she's used to wood. But that one shot was enough for her to calibrate herself to this bow, so it's still very impressive!
I didn't know that, I thought she missed bc she's used to the animals moving when she hunts
@@jesusamaya459 they describe it more in the book, but because they were advised not to give away their skills, that was the first time Katniss had ever picked up the fancy Capitol tech bow. I don't remember the exact reason, but I think it was something to do with the string tension or draw weight
Extremely impressive!
The arrows are metal instead of wood as well which throws off aim too
I thought it was due to her being used to a bow that wasn’t accurate, not because it was made of wood.
That 3-fingered gesture, in the books, is something they do at funerals. So when Katniss volunteers as tribute, the townfolk are saying goodbye in a respectful and reverent way. That gesture, as the movie continues, become one of revolution.
It means more than just goodbye, it also means “I love you,” it’s also a sign of admiration.
Yea Catos monologue at the end got us in the feels, the writing really is so good 😊
It's essential for them to enjoy it or at minimum be completely neutral (honestly they should have aimed for that.
If I was a sponsor, I would send multiple 100 lbs of flour down and a cake decorating kit. They wouldn't stand a chance against Peeta
Truth lol he could become an entire tree 🌲
Spin-of series of this omfg. Him just snacking someone with a bag of flour. POCKET FLOUR. Lol
@@terryjohnson5579 All the flour, flour everywhere. Thought you got a care package? Surprise! Here's your container of flour courtesy of Peeta. Thought you found a good water supply? Psyche, now you have mushy flour. My god, he would be a menace.
@HelTra91 and if we give him sugar and kilos of chocolate my god man. Just terror and sweets. The terror. .... But the sweets
She then trusted me when TLOR came out.😅
Suzanne wrote these books to help children understand war. It’s powerful.
It was absolutely powerful
With all my love to the books and movies, I don’t think she herself understand war or even revolution. I guess soviet writers would be way better at it since they saw it themselves or was in the front. This experience actually shows difference.
It an allegory for how children are treated in the entertainment industry. Changes your perspective when you know that.
@@hashaintswanseriously? Did you know she grew up as a military brat? Offhand I think you need to understand a great deal more about both Suzanne Collins and Scholastic Books which is who she wrote the series for.
@@gailseatonhumbert9199 Growing up in a military family is nothing like actually serving.
That’s badass insight!
@@ReelReviewHQ 🙏🙏 😁 looking forward to seeing the rest of your reactions!
@@aliciabergman1252 yes very true!
I can't wait to see them turn Haymitch's games (50th Hunger Games) into a movie soon after they release the new book.
@@jportega9404I heard a new book after The book about President Snow was being made but I didn’t know it was going to be the 50th games about Haymitch that’s pretty exciting.
Brother they were trading squirrels for bread...i don't think they have HBO...omg i lost it 🤣🤣
Me too! Literally LOLed and had to explain myself to the other people in the room.
😂 😂
So when Peeta gets chosen for the games Katniss thinks "no, please not him"
1:00:36 Its the same with the interviews, everytime Ceaser makes you laugh, you're buying into the Capitol propaganda.
So true!!!! But he is Infectious We couldn’t help it!! Such a reflection on our society!!!
@@ReelReviewHQ wait til you see his grandfather Lucretius Lucky Flickerman in the prequel.
These names lol
That hallucination gets me every time, Stan Tucci just strolling through the forest offering exposition like he’s Jeff Probst on Survivor
Subscribed!

“2000 book to movie adaptation” is my favorite genre 😭😭 Harry Potter, twilight, and now hunger games. I feel like the luckiest girl alive
Real
This is a great movie!!!!!!!!
@ in my opinion this is one of the few series where the sequels are actually just as good as the first. I’m so excited for you guys you’re gunna really like these!
What do you think would be a good follow up series to start?
And the second one is even better
@ omg I love AOT!!! Yeah both do a great job portraying that.
She did base it off real life 🤸🏽

I’m so excited to continue this one, between twilight, Harry Potter and HG we are having a blast!
He was killed for what he did
As many times as I've seen this film franchise, I had never put those 2 facts together. Devastating.
@ it took me a few watches to put the pieces together 🥺 and it just makes it hurt that much worse
So sad 😭
In the books, that was not Rue’s dad. Rue’s mother was a single mother, her husband previously dying. That man was someone who couldn’t take anymore child killings.
@ I know it’s different in the books, I’m just talking about the movie! But thank you for pointing that out!
Plus, there are small books so you can read them pretty fast.
Sooooo excited, everyone always has great things to say about these movies and books, really looking forward to them :)

It also implies that Gale probably had a big family and was helping Katniss, because even while hunting and selling the meat, he had put his name in more than 40 times.
your guys reaction to peeta being in camo was absolutely hilarious 😭😭
The girl who died from the berries was actually very clever! If you go back and watch the training montage, she is successfully identifying every single berry and plant. She knew exactly what she was eating and had no intention of dying by anyone else’s hand.
Those berries came from District 12, that's why Katniss knew about them and Foxface didn't.
@@ptitepeluche05 But in the training they learn about those berries, it's also implied in the books that its a suicide and she knew what she was doing
@@kokitrees7394 no, in the books it's clearly stated it was a mistake. Katniss says the berries come from D12 and Foxface couldn't know about them.
@@kokitrees7394 no, in the books it's clearly stated it was a mistake. Katniss says the berries come from D12 and Foxface couldn't know about them.
It’s so true, when she was going into the glass cylinder to enter the games, my heart started beating faster, I truly felt that :(
Watching it now guys and Gale's name is in 42 times because he took extra entries to provide food for his family. Their district is very poor! I love these movies...so good!! Hope y'all had a nice Thanksgiving
Had a great thanksgiving! Hope yours was great! That makes me so sad for gale :(
It was...thank you!!
I think aswell it goes up every year automatically + Extra for food and stuff
@millieboon I think you're correct
@@millieboon It doesn't.
Hear me out!😂😂😂 you guys should ABSOLUTELY dress up as the two announcers from the Hunger Games next Halloween! 😂😂😂 Omgggg that would be priceless!!!😂
“And peeta dropped a bomb”. Oh you just wait 😭😭😭
I cannot wait to see yall react to the rest
I actually found some reactors who catch things and have a good conversation about movies. Wow I'm impressed.
Besupaaa!!! You’re the best, no worries on the Patreon just you watching with us is awesome!!! Thank you so much for always supporting us :)
THIS
People think of cute, easy decorations but cakes (art) have so much color and texture
I often find it ironic that people laugh at the dress of people in the capital, when there are people that dress like this today and the type of dressing and styles are getting more and more elaborate.
I laugh at them too 😅
Especially when you realize that many of Effie's outfits were already existing Alexander McQueen creations. The butterfly dress in particular.
The Tooch needs more appreciation in these 👏🏻 he’s such a good character actor
The Tooch is now the only way we shall refer to him lol 😂
@@mentallyunw3ll he's one of the best!!
You guys have quickly become one of my favourite reaction channels. Big hello, all the way from North Queensland, Australia 😊
I didn’t see the follower account when I started watching these reactions. I assumed they were a Megha channel based on how hilarious they are if you like them you’ll probably like the everyday Negro’s reaction channel 2. They are equally funny.
I literally wish I could rent them out and these guys out to go to the movies with me because it would be a great time
Wow Australia!? That’s awesome 🤩 well greetings from Texas, glad to have you watching with us Lana!!!
@@HulaMask Oh definitely, that would be amazing 😊
@@ReelReviewHQ Very happy to be here, thanks for the laughs, I was subscribed as soon as I heard your “I’m a killer Bella!” Impression, had to double check you weren’t Aussie, as that’s something I say all the time and said exactly the same way. Great movie choices, looking forward to the rest of the Hunger Games movies.
fun fact in the books the dog things at the end looked like the previous dead tributes
Right. Didn’t they mix in the DNA of the dead tributes into the design of the dogs? I can vaguely remember Katniss seeing the face (or the eyes) of one of the tributes when they were attacking her.
@@goldenageofdinosaurs7192 Rue's genetic "mutt" about stopped Katniss. .
Yes . And how they have the same eyes as the previously killed participants. I do not believe that the capital is going to waste a good dead body. I absolutely believe they for real used the tributes actual eyeballs.
@@goldenageofdinosaurs7192 I kind of remember her seeing glimmer’s eyeballs. Glimmer was the one from district one who died of the wasp sting
Oh god, that’s horrifying
1:00:05 "They can't obviously do the Hunger Games again" Hooo buddy, buckle in for the 2nd movie. xD
Well, there are hunger games every year. And previous winners become mentors.
Part 2 is even better than part 1 in my opinion. Looking forward!
Effie is her escort. Cinna is her stylist. Haymitch is her mentor
In the testing those are the game makers not the sponsors. They are being tested to get the score which helps the sponsors decide who has a good chance to win. She misses her shot because the draw weight of the bow she uses is significantly different from the one she is used to and she didn't practice with it before.
In the movie districts 1 and 2 train for the games. In the book district 4 also trained but they don't mention them in the movies.
Oh my gosh, looking it up now lol
@@ReelReviewHQ Heh, I'm just rewatching it now, Stanley Tucci made a guest appearance in the one about Chaffee. ^^
(I am also on the spectrum and much prefer watching the same things repeatedly, rather than watching new movies all the time lol.) I am very impressed with your production quality, and you are both observant, insightful, and very funny. I'm so glad I found your channel and look forward to watching more from you in the future!
"Is it cake or is it Peeta?" :D :D :D Guys your channel is fantastic; I was sure the algorithm was offering me a channel with hundreds of thousands of subscribers, that's how funny and well done your videos are. So here is a sub, a like and a comment; looking forward to your next videos and seeing your channel grow!
5:11 "bit of a rebel, this one, huh?" u just described the entire series in a nutshell lmaooo
That’s awful 😢
I've watched a lot of reactions to this movie series, and yours definitely stands out. You make it personal by talking about what you might do in those situations and seem genuinely interested in the whole concept of the world these characters live in. Definitely got yourself a new subscriber (and it looks like you are a newer channel, that's awesome! Seeing a channel grow and evolve is so wonderful). (Also! your reaction to creepy knife thrower girl makes me think you should watch Orphan, she's the star an so amazingly creepy.)
You’re awesome :)
Happy belated turkey day- I’m excited for you guys to get through the hunger games. A little lore: Hamish is the way he is because he was the only person to win from district 12 for like almost 20+ years among other things- imagine having to coach champions and watch them die year after year after year- along with your own trauma after surviving? I’d be drunk too all day everyday
That makes me so sad for him :(
@@ReelReviewHQ the more lore (which isn't even necessary but it adds to the experience) the more horrifyingly real it becomes- definitely gives you something to chew on
I know the three-finger salute was done for specific reasons in the book, but it's been ages since I read** it.
Hahaha ❤
lol we won’t tell anyone we won the lottery but there will be signs 😂

The reason the Capitol reaps random children from each district is to break their spirits, their will to rebel, by demonstrating its power: "See? We can take what you love most and destroy it; so don't even think about rebelling again." Remember what Snow said? "Why do we have a winner? Hope." A little hope keeps the experience from being completely brutal, and actually serves to perpetuate the system. A completely brutal system with no hope would more easily lead to rebellion.
This is a well-crafted world, with disturbing parallels to our times.
It’s so horrific, and so easy to see the parallel to our own world, I truly hope the capital gets what’s coming in future installments, thanks so much for watching with us and this awesome insightful comment!
hey so i've been a major hunger games nerd since primary school and this was hysterically fucking funny, holy shit??? i was actually crying with laughter at the stanley tucci hallucination bit, i'm So Stoked to see your guys' reaction to the sequels too. today has been a really hard day and this was absolutely delightful to watch so thank you for that
I’m sorry today was tough, just remember everything changes when the sun comes up, glad we could be apart of making today a tinsy bit better :)
Can't wait!!!
16:06 "I wish we dressed like this" this could be an amazing cosplay opportunity for reactions to the sequels lmao
52:19 'if she got back and she's like MORE SOUP??!' 😂 not me laughing in the middle of the night
Name submissions are cumulative. Also you can purchase additional rations for yourself and each of your family members and the price is putting your name in again for each time you purchase rations. So basically the poorer you are the more likely you are to be chosen.
Came here to say this! Extra entries are called tesserae. Each one gives you a year's worth of grain and oil per person.
Omg I legit thought you were gonna just have the arrow sticking out of Jacob’s belly like you weren’t even aiming for the apple ahahahahah

And in the book Peeta lose his leg
46:44 The people in District 12 use it as a long-standing gesture of respect, thanks, or goodbye
Oh and just for extra context, the districts are as follows:
The Capitol - Center of Panem, they hold the Government here and are the wealthiest region.
Wheezing at y'all thinking Peta got turned into a rock 🤣🤣🤣
It was jarring lol
While you guys go through this journey just remember Katniss is still a teen, she had to grow up fast, and had no time to be a kid that makes mistakes, because of her dad's passing, but she is still a teen (around 16-17 if i'm not mistaken) going through all of it.
