Never can make it through this gem of a movie without breaking down. After hearing of James Earl Jones passing I had to come here to listen to this monumental speech....and writing this with a tear or two running down my cheek. Thank you sir for gracing us with your talent!
You will never be forgotten James. Our children and our grandchildren will have memories of your voice. Gone but never forgotten. Forever is preserved in film history.
This is one of those movies with so many moments that bring tears to your eyes. Pure magic, thank you James Earl Jones, Burt Lancaster and all the other greats in this movie. Thank you....
RIP James Earl Jones. You captured not only baseball but life in this speech. I can't watch this and not shed a tear 😢. RIP Burt Lancaster and Ray Liotta as well. Hey rookie....you were good.
This movie lead James Earl Jones to doing the prelude speech to Game 1 of the 1989 world series SF giants against the Oakland A's.. ahh great memories!
The movie didn't win any awards in Hollywood, even though it was the greatest sports movie ever made. In the hearts of America it will always be special. I think about my father every time I watch the movie. He died at 63, and I'm 75 now.
I think Hoosiers is the best sports film ever made, but Field of Dreams is so special, I view it honestly as more of a heartwarming drama than anything else. It's about 2nd chances and regrets and things unsaid between fathers and sons. Yet, there's enough baseball in the film where you could still call it a sports film I guess.
I normally am NOT a big celebrity caring guy, but James Earl Jones will ALWAYS be a favorite. GREAT voice & character actor!! RIP, sir, and thank you for making entertainment worth watching.
My father passed away when I was 15 years old, I've grown up what should've been the best years of my life without him there for guidance & support. Every time I watch this movie, I get to the last 10 minutes, when Ray plays catch with his father and the tears start running. I'm 63 years old this year & I still miss my dad so much - mostly because I start thinking about how much different my life could've been. Field of Dreams - a truly great movie.
@@melvinsmiley5295 Thanks, mate. What made my father's passing worse - if anything could - was the fact that my brother passed away from a car crash just 12 months earlier.
I feel ya, Brad. It's an emotional movie, especially for me. My father died in his thirties, when I was just a child. I cry at that part, too. Who wouldn't?
@@MrArcadia2009 I'm so sorry for your loss also. It's difficult to sum up the feelings that overwhelm you as you grow up in the preceding years, but we just have to make the most of it. Cheers from Melbourne, Australia 🇦🇺

Went to the Field in 2022 and it was just what I expected. Never been anywhere, other than my great aunt and uncle’s farm, that was as peaceful as the Field of Dreams. Going back in December to see more of Iowa and we’re going back to Dyersville and I can’t wait
R.I.P. to one of the greatest actors to ever live. My goodness, so many incredibly executed performances. So many memorable roles. Mr. Jones is one of the greatest of all-time.
Watched this movie at least 50 times the whole way thru. I believe Field of Dreams and the Natural were hands down the 2 best fantasy/sports movies ever made. Great actors and stories that played into our own dreams as kids.
I watched it once and was hardly moved... sorry, it was incredibly cheesy, as were many 80's movies. I love baseball, and the performances themselves were on point, but the premise was so... dumb. Bunch of people on acid trips.
@@lavans06 I think it's because Graham never got a chance to play, he was as good as any of the legends but life worked against him, but he had his moment allowing that one last regret to fade.
I love the look on his face when he hears that. Burt Lancaster was incredible in this role. And as much as his character wishes he could have played in the majors, the scene where he says that the real tragedy would have been if he never came home and been a doctor… I just well up. It’s so beautiful. We may not have gotten every wish, we still have this beautiful life. I don’t know, it makes me so emotional. This movie always makes me laugh and cry. It’s one of my favorites ❤
I am so glad I got to see and meet James Earl Jones in Perth, Western Australia in the stage performance of Driving Miss Daisy with Angela Lansbury. God bless him, forever. The man was and is a legend that will live forever.
So crazy to believe we lost two individuals in the last two years that were involved in some of Disney's biggest successes and some of theatre's beloved ventures.
I knew I would come here again to watch this movie. And I knew I would want to watch this movie when one of the actors had passed away. And now, Here I am again. And I'm sad to say I was right. Rest in Peace, James Earl Jones.
I've been meaning to watch it this week before i read the sad news. I finally made my commitment last night. And could not be timely with baseball season almost over.
Had the pleasure to visit the field after enjoying this movie for so many years. Highly recommend anyone passing through Iowa to stop in. I just wish it would have been in the middle of corn season. Either way it was a magical place to see and play a game of catch.
I recently had bought the 4k finally watched it today and watched this scene a dozen times but the part where James goes into the cornfield is priceless thanks for the memories we'll miss you ❤❤
This is one of those near-perfect movies that will run wild on your emotions and leave you drained but VERY satisfied by the movie's end. Just a wonderful film, exceptionally written and directed, and with an awesome cast.
And the people did come! We drove out from NY in '07, and it was exactly how I always pictured it as a kid. Magical. I read the book years ago, but my opinion of it was definitely clouded by my love of this film.
I do love the magic and timing of not having a green screen of Timothy Busfield walking in mid pitch and trusting not to get plunked even though Mark did deserve it until he opened his eyes.
I think the only movie that might be close BUT not close enough is Trouble with the Curve with Clint Eastwood. Just keep in mind that I said I think and not close enough. He hears the batter missing the Curve he sort of trains his daughter to hear it. On the Atlanta Braves field "peanut boy" gives the true test with the kid with John Goodman and the others being there to watch. I like what Robert Patrick "Vince" says to the gang "Jesus Christ and nobody saw this" and he tells Matthew Lillard "Philip" "You're Fired". It's baseball season so break out the DVD movies. 😆 OR watch the games on TV or the ballpark live
I put this #2 behind Robert Shaw's Indianapolis story in JAWS. If we're making a list, for me #3 would be William Wallace's "But they can't take our freedom" speech from Braveheart, Rocky's talk with his son in Rocky Balboa, and Col. Kurtz's "I love the smell of napalm in the morning" speech from Apocalypse Now.
Until last night, the last time i saw this oldie but a goodie flick it was during the summer lockdowns in 2020. And JEJ gave the speech that was timelier then and maybe timely now. And here i am paying my respect to this legend. And like most of my fellow late 20's/early 30 year olds, the first glimpse i had of his talent was as Mufasa.
This brings a torrent of emotions watching it. I never really understood the movie as a kid, but my dad was such a diehard fan of it I ended up rubbing off on me and I can't tell ya how much it means to me and the connection between my father and I. I need to watch it with him again ASAP before I blink and it's too late.
I built a Wiffle ball field in my back property, because of this movie. I laid out there with my wife last night under our lights, and listened to the 'Field of dreams' theme. Thank you James for being a large part of the favorite movie of my childhood.
