Great project. I made mine using pressure in place of a pump. If you ever feel like having more water pressure, consider this: In place of your electric pump, I just added a Schrader valve (similar ones on bicycles) and made sure it's completely sealed and held strong in place. I believe these military grade water tanks can withstand being pressurized. Pump it to around 30-40psi or higher if your water tank can withstand and you have a pressurized water system. Works similar to the Nemo showers/road shower brand, etc. I like this setup for my own needs because it has a lot more water pressure than what a 12V electric pump can provide. I like being able to blast stuff off even if it's a fraction of the pressure of an actual pressure washer. For us off roaders, we often have air systems for our tires which is perfect to help pressurize a water tank like this. Or, a simple bike pump will suffice. Or serve as a backup for systems redundancy.
You can use a second hand stainless beer keg (they are rated conservatively to 45psi) and you can buy a fitting that goes right onto the spear threaded for a schrader valve. 15.5 gallons.
People have built pressurized kits for these but they balloon over time. The whole point of using these canisters is to be able to bring multiples along, taking up minimal space.
This is great. So clear and generous of you to share. Can’t believe people “thumbs down” this vid. Given different circumstances I’d be happy to give you a c-note to build and ship it. Thanks!!!
For a camp shower, I just spliced the hose of a kitchen sink sprayer onto the hose of a garden sprayer (both are 1/4" ID, use a short piece of 1/4" copper or other pipe and 2 small hose clamps). Add warm water, a few pumps and you have an instant camp shower! You can take it back apart to use as a garden sprayer again. Obviously, don't use one that you have used noxious chemicals in~~~
Another cool addition would be to add a pressure switch into the hose between the pump and the quick connect. That way you can leave the power always on. The pump turns on only when the water is flowing but gets shut down when you release the sprayer and pressure builds up
Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. You killed it. Great design. Great execution. AND a Great no-nonsense video that gets right to the point. Clean, concise. I love every part of this project. One thing to add... if you're out car-camping you can WARM the water (not so hot as to damage the pump) for a nicer shower on your fire or camp stove
By my count the parts are about $180 +tax . Plus your $100 that puts the total cost about $300. There are less expensive camp showers out there that provide about the same performance. No doubt its a nice compact, functional, and durable package, but seems a bit pricey. I just use one of those submersible sump pump like showers in a black bucket for hot water. Total price was less than $50.
I did make a similar unit to this but instead of being battery powered I fitted a schrader valve and pressurised the container to 40psi which was more than enough for a 5 minute shower, also having left it on the roof of the vehicle it was a lovely warm shower too.
Thank you for this excellent idea AND for making an informative, complete video! (I appreciate the lack of overbearing music and overhyped nonsense that so many other videos include.) If I build one, I'll probably pull a few inches of the black power cord through the grommet just to be able to flip the battery pack so the ports are facing down. I thought it might offer a bit of protection from water getting into the ports and switch. Thanks again for the great project video!

The pump would melt or get damaged inside the tank on a stove. Submersible pumps are made from plastic. The battery and electrical wires would also likely be damaged.
Great idea, however I would have run the power line for the pump through the lid also. That way by transferring lids you could just move the pump and hose to the next full water jug without having to pour water from jug to jug.
Man, thank you for taking the time to make this video and show people. This is really cool. I was looking into making something like this and I’m glad I came across your channel ! Job well done on explaining how to do this ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Great idea! I reckon a bigger diameter hose and a better pump would work much better... Look at the seaflo pumps. Thin hoses take the power out of your pump due to friction. I am adapting a camp shower using a 200GPH seaflo pump, makita 18v batt, 18v to 12v makita batt adapter, 13mm garden hose and fittings, camp shower nozzle,...Converting batt voltage with a cheap part from ebay. Using a standard water jerry can. If you adapt the fittings to the lid the pump setup will be transferable to other water Jerry cans you may have. Let me know if you want more details and i'll post them. I put hotwater in the jug when I go paddling, when you get out of the water - hot shower! so good
Great idea! Have you managed to sell a few? For anyone that owns Milwaukee 18v tools, you could build a version of this around their liquid transfer pump that would have quite a bit of pressure.
Question; why not drill/run the power cord through the cap also or vent cap ( if you cut that off also) I’m sure it would vent enough through the pump and cord through the same hole. No ? Great idea and video. 👍👍
Brilliant. I'm going to do it. But rather than mess around drilling a hole and feeding the power wire through the back I'm just going to use a rechargeable 12volt submersible pump like the type you get with a camp shower. No power wires needed as the pump and the battery are in the same waterproof box.
Nice!! I did something similar but modified the cap only so the water hose and power for the pump is swappable with second jug I pack along. Thanks for sharing.
I like this idea but will need to check if every component is food safe grade for drinking water. Using this for washing is one thing but as a source of drinking water is another.
Today is July 17, 2021...are you still building these for viewers? Thanks...BTW, any suggestions for warm-water showering with this kit? Has anyone tried boiling water on a portable Coleman-type portable stove and just adding it in?

This is awesome! Gives me an idea for a roof rack option. Frontrunner sells sealed roof rack cigarette lighter plugs meant for awning lights, could use that for on demand power for a large jug, or tube
Great build, but for what it's worth nearly all of these products are significantly cheaper at a local hardware store than on amazon, some by a large amount. Amazon is pretty bad on costs for small hardware things like screws, hoses, blades, connectors, etc.
Good concept but the only issue i see with this is that the hose clamp in the tank..both of them will rust and taint the water and the jug ... suggestion you should use stainless steel squeeze clamps or anything stainless to prevent rusting in the jug
I bought a camp shower years ago that uses the little 1lb propane bottles to heat copper coils that the water runs through to heat up the shower water. It uses an electric pump to spray the heated water. Works great
Cool! I made something similar to this except the pump I used to pump water around a copper coil that sits on a camp fire or camp stove and heat the water. Thanks for the upload.
Thank you for sharing 😊 I haven't got a single bit of experience and this was easy to understand and would be totally doable for me. I appreciate these types of videos a lot.
This is really well done. I built one with a 5 gal hm depot bucket a few years ago for some homeless ppl living in some woods. The bucket was really sloppy, hard to transport by hand across dirt and grass (8 lbs x 5 gal's = 40 lbs). But most of all they didn't have access to water. Your's is much more practical.
This is really cool! I wish we would’ve seen this before we bought out Outdoor Portable Tankless Water Heater. I don’t mind turning on the generator or boil some water over the fire to warm it slightly depending on weather conditions.
Have you considered drilling the hole for the wire on the cap as well so you could remove the cap and use the system on another water source or jug? Also, how about putting the battery under the handle for protection> Just wondering. I am building one.
Easier version, with better pressure, drill the Jerry can, insert a Schrader valve, you can now use a foot pump or 12v car compressor pump to add pressure. I would use a black metal (or plastic) this will warm the water for free in sunny conditions. Advantages, you can use as a pressure washer if you connect a pressure washer lance, shower with decent pressure.
That works too but it makes the jug all bloated and deformed and it’s just not as cool. But it would work. Similar to how a POS car gets you to your destination, but some people would still rather buy a Tesla.
This is incredible! My plan is to make it for my sink set-up, which is how I came across your channel. I was just so happy to see the step-by-step!!! However, WHEN I screw everything up, I’ll reach out so you can just make it for me. 😅
Great idea!! Question: Could you add an additional filler hole? This would lessen the chance of disturbing the connections to the shower hose when refilling the container.
I bought my portable shower for $40 and I’ve had it work flawlessly for the past 5 years. That does look like a fun project but the price is ridiculous.
Looks good need to figure a way to cut some of the cost. Find a different container and fittings and your price will drop about 50 bucks without sacrificing much.
Question: I built one of these shower units, how can I allow the hose inside container to swivel. The inside hose wrapped the electrical cord when I turn the lid on. Should the quick connect fitting be loose enough to allow for hose to swivel. Any suggestions welcome
Hey, I guess that can happen from time to time. Mostly it doesn’t. But another viewer suggested putting the quick connection at the top of the jug, under the handle. I might try to build them that way from now on to avoid the tangling of the hose inside the jug.
100% yes indeed. Not sure what your battery has for ports to plug things into but you could easily attach a cigarette lighter plug or any 12v plug head to the submersible pump wire and plug it into your power source whenever you want to use it.
That is the ground wire but no need to do anything with it for this 12v application. You can just use electrical tape to cover all the wires and leave the yellow one alone.
Are there ways to improve the power supply? Like, I'm sure you were trying to keep things as affordable as possible....but maybe a better battery?....or an easy way to make this work on the car "cigarette lighter" socket?
Hey good questions, here's a link to a newer version I made and the battery capacity is 6000 mah, so it's double the capacity as the one in this video. Honestly though, the 3000 mah battery serves the purpose just fine and lasts for 25 gallons or more of use. To make this power directly from a cigarette lighter socket would be very simple. Just buy one of these and splice it onto the power cord coming out of the jug, then just plug and unplug it as needed into the cigarette lighter. amzn.to/2SO6E1r
Yeah, this contraption is way overpriced. You can buy a powered Ryobi sprayer and put a different nozzle on it. More compact at 2 gallons. Good for 30 full tanks on a single charge, under $100. th-cam.com/video/BgwE_hwns_s/w-d-xo.html
@@OMGWTFLOLSMH ... I see it holds 2 gallons but the rate of flow for a sprayer like that will be around a quart per minute so a LONG time taking a shower at that speed. Then there's the other modifications that would be necessary. IOW, still more work to be done even though it's the right idea.
Who else repeats time 0:45-0:55, oh yeah and great info.

Have you considered drilling the hole for the wire on the cap as well so you could remove the cap and use the system on another water source or jug? Also, how about putting the battery under the handle for protection> Just wondering. I am building one.
Thank you!! I’ll contact you when I need it for the summer.
@@zackbier hmm personally have only seen it done with a metal Jerry can, I didn’t see any deforming, no doubt you could if you went OTT overpressued
Not going to lie.. you got me...
This is incredible! My plan is to make it for my sink set-up, which is how I came across your channel. I was just so happy to see the step-by-step!!! However, WHEN I screw everything up, I’ll reach out so you can just make it for me. 😅
Haha, I bet you'll surprise yourself and it will go well, but feel free to reach out with any questions, happy to help!
@@zackbier Will do! 🥰
Paint the scepter can black or buy a black can and you'd have warm water
He hoses off his $35000 Toyota Tacoma with a 5 gallon bucket shower. “Cmon man!” “MY BUTTS BEEN WIPED”
Holy crap, I paid $36,000, I must have gotten ripped off!!!
Great idea! Could you use a metal container if you wanted to heat up the water for a hot/warm shower? Say over a warm embers...
Good idea, but that would likely damage the submersible pump
maybe not a good idea
Cool idea, I really like it. Well done video that explains all the neccessary details of the construction.
Thanks! Hope it helps :)
Great idea!! Question: Could you add an additional filler hole? This would lessen the chance of disturbing the connections to the shower hose when refilling the container.
Yes that’s a good idea
I bought my portable shower for $40 and I’ve had it work flawlessly for the past 5 years. That does look like a fun project but the price is ridiculous.
Definitely my favorite use as well. Good job!
Looks good need to figure a way to cut some of the cost. Find a different container and fittings and your price will drop about 50 bucks without sacrificing much.
Nice design!
I make them using a pressurized system.
This is a cool idea since you don't rely on the seal holding air. They can be a bit tricky.
Nice portable shower
Thats pretty slick. Good job.
Thanks! It works really well.
Always sudsup first then rinse it saves water.
@@zackbier Great minds think alike, I have changed my quick connect to under handle. Perfect !
I wonder if there’s a way to do this to a water rotopax and connect it to my battery in back of my Jeep where my fridge is plugged into.
100% yes indeed. Not sure what your battery has for ports to plug things into but you could easily attach a cigarette lighter plug or any 12v plug head to the submersible pump wire and plug it into your power source whenever you want to use it.
Sir you know and we all know the real reason why we click on this video.
To get info on the parts we need...I know!
You mean 7:50 ? I mean, for the parts list, of course
Gentlemen, we must stop meeting here like this.
we are men of culture
Thanks for making the video. Very informative. I never would have thought of this.
What is the yellow cord that sticks out near the battery? I don’t know much about wiring or electrical stuff.
Just buy one of these and splice it onto the power cord coming out of the jug, then just plug and unplug it as needed into the cigarette lighter. amzn.to/2SO6E1r

cool set up
Thanks!
Great idea, but I'd use a 5 gallon bucket from Lowes. $2
This is the G Wagon of portable showers.
I can build this for a one forth of the cost with deferent supplies but just as good.good luck
@@OMGWTFLOLSMH dude I was about to talk about the ryobi
@@OMGWTFLOLSMH ... I see it holds 2 gallons but the rate of flow for a sprayer like that will be around a quart per minute so a LONG time taking a shower at that speed. Then there's the other modifications that would be necessary. IOW, still more work to be done even though it's the right idea.
Ingenious!! Thanks
