@@CeltiesSin eh, that's just how some groups play out tbh. Same thing at my LGS, there's one guy who just constantly ends up being archenemy. Just good deck building mixed with solid piloting, not much you can do about it 😂.

In case you were wondering Josh’s last turn took 12 minutes and 55 seconds, 7 minutes and 10 seconds being Mizzix’s Mastery. The episode is 1:02:09 long, meaning that Josh’s turn took roughly 21% of the ENTIRE EPISODE.

I like how from Olivia’s perspective she left the table before things were going to get back, and when she did, two people were dead, and the last one remaining had drawn every card in his deck. Then she comes back like “it’s time to win”.
This was some insane gameplay. Some real high tier shit. Olivia really busted my sides with “I love when you make decks smarter than you” and then the amazing conclusion. Also the silver quill deck killing someone with sign in blood was so flavorful

Came for this comment and was not disappointed.
To be fair, it was a different situation; in the ad he was not annoyed at the other players taking a long time to do stuff, and was simply acknowledging he was not able to do anything as he was tapped out. And I'm sure he'd be fine if a tapped out player sat back and let him (and the other not-tapped-out players) do stuff until they could next interact.

A lot, but I don't think this is the reason we did not see him. He has been on the show plenty of times before so I am not so sure WoTC have a say in the guest list. In fact, from what I remember they said WoTC sponsors them for early access to their videos to check that they are all family-friendly since it is their game. They said so in their TWD secret lair video.
As did WOTC, not giving him a preview card.

the videos of all the schools feels like the magic extended universe.
My brain has rattled together ad ideas for different color pair colleges or tri color colleges being like AP classes harder majors. The extended universe of colleges could be very very deep in mtg.
Blue White is law school? maybe?
Black Red automotive, or demonic engineering?
Green Red is Athletic freaks or military??
White Green is idfk lol.
Blue Black is space and time? Astrology or something.
Idk lol. There's not really another main 5 studied that the schools from strixhaven aren't already covering (Art, Math, Literature, History, Science) and my ideas are loosely based on what the other color pairs already touch on in lore.

@@chrispy6953 If we're going at it from the Strixhaven "the differences are more important than the similarities" approach, to differentiate it from Ravnica, I'd say it's more:
* White-Blue: Self-Restraint vs Going too far to achieve aims - Psychology (most psycholgists agree both are needed sometimes, and being stuck at either end results in being too uptight or being too reckless, but those are the two ends)
* Blue-Black: Nuturing skills/knowledge/etc vs Exploitation of those things - Social Sciences (pretty obvious when applied to people in a society)
* Black-Red: Long-Term Earnings vs Short-Term Profit- Economics (pretty obvious)
* Red-Green: Changing Impulse vs Ingrained Instinct - Medical school (how different doctors diagnose things)
* Green-White: Nature vs Civilization - Geography (the natural geography of the world vs civilization's impact in terms of state divisions, etc)
I love how it was Prismari Command (with that amazing animation) that let Josh start the engine for that absolute value. It was like he really called in the best and most powerful mages of the Prismari house, and they released the power of their magic. So much synergy and flavour to the deck!!

This is why if you copy multiple Explosions, point at least some of the card draw at the person you're killing. Otherwise this is bound to happen.

So, when Mizzix's Mastery resolved... all the cards had targets right? Therefore, making a token copy would be an entity that couldn't be targeted with the Haste Card... oops?
I'm confused. Can you explain?
@@genericweeb3816 I believe he was meant to choose targets for every card before resolving any of the effects of those cards. One of those effects created a creature token after resolving it, so that token didn't exist to be targeted beforehand.
That aside, we all make mistakes, and since it wasn't a super competitive match it's alright since it seemed everybody was having a good time.

I didn't catch this, but I believe you are correct. Spells with targets must declare them when they are put ON the stack, before anything resolves. Well done.
46:57 if jimmy waited to fetch till josh headed to combat or responded to targeted removal on the retreat that might’ve saved him
Josh is in blue. A counter spell was a possibility
That is possible but unlikely since it wasn’t a spell but an ability and the sublime epiphany was already in his graveyard
The thing is, the fetch should have saved him. All of Josh’s Mizzix’s Mastery spells needed valid targets as they were put on the stack, so the Accelerate shouldn’t have been able to give the copy of Veyran haste, because that copy didn’t exist yet.
Josh’s Epitaph: he died like he lived, drawing cards. What a way to go.

@Jack Napier I disagree very much, maybe its what is wrong with that color combo in Strixhaven but those cards already existed before Strix, and Strix gives us awesome cards in other colors and for other decks. Not to mention a fun lore/story
I think it's super funny that Prof is in Quandrix because he has said multiple times "I'm an English major, not a math major"

What's more is in another game knights episode Josh said "Jimmy's an attacker." which makes it even crazier as if math is for blockers and less for attackers then why is Jimmy in the math college?
The fact that JLK's face isn't photoshopped on the alter of dementia art is the biggest missed opportunity in game knights history.

You can't target the Veyran token with the Accelerate copy, because you have to choose targets for Accelerate before the Sublime Epiphany copy resolves (aka before the token is created)
This is what I was thinking about the size of his veyran copy too. The spells should have all already been on the stack so it wouldn't have seen all of those casts to get bigger, right?

My only issue is that the accelerate couldn't target the token, because it didn't exist when targets were being declared.

Oh, true! Wow, that was a misplay that legitimately changed the course of the game.
And Jimmy Vesuva'd a land that came in at the same time, seems to be a common mistake.
Also he copied Thermal Flux twice and didn't change the targets. The second and third one would be countered because the target is not legal (it wasn't a nonsnow permanent).
Wouldn't the copies be on the stack already when he makes the token? If he is resolving them they should all be on the stack, meaning they are already cast. That means the token of his commander shouldn't be getting pumped either.
@@Daz1One for Flux you could just say Snow-unsnow-snow or pick 3 diff ones, it was a choice that had no effect really so he just picked the same one

26:02 small rules mistake: all 3 Thermal Flux targeted the same (non-snow) permanent, meaning they were all the same mode of making target non-snow permanent snow. The first to resolve would make it snow and the other 2 would have invalid targets and "fizzle"

I like that with only 3 cards in the library and Josh's Jori En out there, Sign in Blood was enough to win, unless Josh could win a single card or his first card killed Jori En.
Just getting back into MTG. Ever since I deleted all my social media accounts, I’m now going back to the basics. Mtg was definitely one of my basics when I was a kid. This is only the second Mtg video I’ve watched in my entire life. Great job! Can’t wait to start playing commander!

Sometimes I think his decks are a little 'too' focused, especially on the set-up; he often spends the first few turns doing something...but then just keeps doing it. Which is probably because his decks are tooooo loaded with those set-up cards, meaning it's all he has to do (the wheel hand he showed kinda shows this). I didn't actually see ANY spell he'd cheat with his commander, whereas I'd expect a deck like that to be running 16-20, along with 20-30 cheaper instants/sorceries (which includes every ramp instant/sorcery less than/equal to 3cmc).
@@andrewsparkes8829 Yeah the deck he built this week was absolutely terrible. He's not even playing a single removal spell in the entire list aside from 1 broken bond, which is sorcery speed enchantment/artifact removal. It's so bad.

This episode was amazing. Olivia represented Silverquill very well getting herself in the spotlight with all the talking. Jimmy had to math his way out of a dire situation as expected of Quandrix, and Josh with the crazier Prismari turns.
And Kat was a really good example of what Witherbloom is all about: dying.
