"I'm listening to the fucking song!" As a product of Johnstown PA, it is impossible to go to a tomahawks game without someone yelling that during the national anthem. God Bless Slap Shot.
As a Quebecer, it's surprising and heartwarming to see "Les Boys" in your top 10. That movie franchise is really huge and liked in Québec and is all about hockey :)
Goon: "Makes you wonder why fighting has become so important to such a graceful sport". Did they even watch the fucking movie, or did they complete miss the point? The movie shows WHY the goon is necessary. He protected the skill player, who no longer had to fear someone taking a cheap shot at him. Was this not clear?

My friends Great Uncle is Maurice Richard, it's super interesting, with all the photos of him, a bunch of classic merchandise, and a bunch of hockey cards. It's so cool.
Awesome that Youngblood made the list. My personal #4, very 80's, great soundtrack, Patrick Swazye, boobs, can't go wrong. My friend that played junior hockey in Canada tells me it's pretty close to how it actually is.
Why is Most Valuable Primate an honorable mention? Why was it even considered at all? Sure, it's a hockey movie, but come on. The movie is straight-to-VHS 90's crap.
JonnyLikesGames87 thank you. As a kid i hated the movie just because of all the rules they broke in the final sequence just so the team could win the championship. I was a stickler for the rules growing up
JonnyLikesGames87 um excuse me it was released in 2000 so don't go around calling it 90's crap just kidding but seriously either there aren't any incredibly good hockey movies besides some featured on this list or they needed to fill it up with something. Also haven't seen it but it definitely looks terrible.
Yep! And that is from the original broadcast of the game! They re-recorded his calling of the game for the movie but when it came to those last iconic words of the game he couldn’t recreate the intensity in his voice.
Paul Newman. Enough said. I can understand Americans loving Miracle more though, it was pretty good. But if Kurt Russell or any other star came around to local Canadian rinks it would be a minor draw compared to the Hanson brothers. The movie is just that epic up here
Disney I believe made another hockey movie thats hard to find but it was called H-E Double Hockey sticks. Its more humorous than the title sounds. Its about a low level devil trying to get a persons soul to get his horns. He's tasked to get a growing hockey star to sign his soul away and what better way than to guarantee his team to win the Stanley Cup. But trickery is a foot and he's then traded to the last place team and he tries to get them to the finals to win back his soul. It has a lot of good funny moments, plays a good tribute to the sport and has some really nice on ice shots. If you happen to find it, give it a shot.
There's NO WAY Mighty Ducks/Champions isn't number 1. I had wanted to play hockey my whole life because of this movie and never got the chance because they have no ice-skating rinks in Melbourne, Australia. For me, when I think ice hockey, I think that movie. Heck, can the other films say they spawned a real life ice hockey team? I think not.
I think the movie was awesome but it was more of an action movie that had hockey in it. The plot of the movie had nothing to do with hockey. All the other ones where centered around the sport.
The one great thing about "Les Boys" was the fact that the same actor that portrayed Jean-Guy Drouin from Slapshot was in the movie. Net Worth should have garnered more than just an honourable mention. The Rocket was a wonderful movie. Any movie from the Mighty Ducks franchise should never have been considered.
My Choices: 10. Young Blood 9. Mystery Alaska 8. Sticks and Stones 7. MVP: Most Valuable Primate 6. Mighty Ducks 3 5. The Rocket: The Legend of Rocket Richard 4. Slapshot 3. The Mighty Ducks 2 2. Goon 1. Miracle
The Rocket Docu-Drama is by far the best and most accurate take on hockey ever made... How it's ranked 8th behind 2 Mighty Ducks movies, Mystery Alaska, Slap Shot Les Boys and Miracle is beyond me. Don't get me wrong, do love the movies mentioned above, but they don't compare to The Rocket movie.
Slapshot was made by George Roy Hill, the dude who directed 'Butch & Sundance', 'Slaughterhouse 5', 'The Sting', and 'The Great Waldo Pepper'. He also directed the underrated Chevy Chase comedy 'Funny Farm' and the amazing 'The Little Drummer Girl'. His son Tim didn't pickup his father's talent, considering his best known films are 'Muppets in Space', 'Garfield: The Movie' and 'Alvin & The Chipmunks: The Road Chip'

Heads up Watchmojo: The reason fighting exists in hockey is because at some point, some teams realized it's easy to send a nobody out there to injure your opponents best player. So teams got enforcers to take a number and return the favor to cancel it out. You don't have a guy that can return the favor, you can guarantee your best player will be cheap shot and your whole team is fucked. Ask Gretzky, the only reason his knees still exist are Huddy and McSorely.
As much as I love Slap Shot I think 1 and 2 need to be flipped. Mainly since Miracle actually happened and for probably the best quote for any sports movie, "The name on the front is a whole hell of a lot more important than the one on the back!". With that said I was joking about taping on the foil early in my last season after someone tried taking me out of the game two games in a row.
As an islander fan, Youngblood always reminded me of Mike Bossy. Incredible goal scorer. Never wanted to fight. Getting targeted by goons. I love slapshot but nothing compares to miracle..
Cantalope Drank I think for an actual hocker player miracle stands out. For a non-hockey player Slapshot stands out. Idk tho
Miracle is incredible
Dope Terminator miracle is more of a hockey movie that embraces the beauty of the game and slapshot a styreotypical thought of what hockey is.

Cantalope Drank true
There's nothing better than tea with Ms. McGill

"The Rocket" should definitely be higher. Also you forgot
"Mr Hockey: The Gordie Howe Story"
Mr hockey was terrible and had cheesy acting could not get through 30 minutes of that movie
I rate The Rocket as number 2, just above Miracle. Goon is overrated!
Mr Hockey: The Gordie Howe Story should be on honorable mention to :)

Amazing
Miracle is the best hockey movie that will ever be made. Hands down.
Slap Shot is the greatest sports comedy ever. Also how it captures the period of the late 70s makes it one of the era's best movies.
