The 103 is basically a mini U87 the only difference is it’s less smooth on the top end & slightly less warm in my opinion…I don’t think the warm is anywhere near.
@@tayoprism9520 You have the WA8000? I did a shootout my my Channel. You can hear an unprocessed recording of both. I prefer the Warm. th-cam.com/video/aMyp7SZhElg/w-d-xo.html
I have both the atlantis and 103, personally I find for rap vocals the majority of the time I still gravitate to the 103, forward on the atlantis is similar but I like how much detail the 103 provides
@@matthewtrenhaile1176 For my voice that Atlantis, TF51, and TF47 are my go to’s but hey I see T-Pain recording with the TLM103 it must be good lol. I never would use it so I got rid of it
The WA-8000 is amazing. I have the tlm 103 and it’s not bad. The difference for me is i have to do a lot of surgery with the 103 and the warm just sounds crispy clean right away and i’ll end up with maybe 5 effect inserts rather than maxing out and still needing more with the 103. Yes i am a beginner-intermediate mixing engineer.
yes gimme that Universal Audio 8000! lol on the real tho WA8000 is definitely a very nice microphone, working for a long time with the original Neumann u87, then moving to the TLM103, the WA8000 is a very warm full mic, its about the same price range, I dont know, if you want that clean flat response with a bit of deep warmth get the Neumann, if you want the clear and full sound right off the bat I would say the WA8000 is the way to go.
Dr Dre was the first person in hip hop to use the Sony He made that shit popular lol crazy But With the neve 1073 it makes my tlm 103 sound close to all the more expensive mics.. I think ima get the tube tech next!
The wa 8000 is the best microphone i’ve ever had, it was to me amazing and i was using the mic with 3 headphones just to test it, the audio technica, the 2 beyerdynamics dt770 and dt880 and also out the speakers and it is more full sounding that mic than tlm 103, audio technica, you really get that Sony full sound all the way only a bit bright on the top that is not even hard to fix with a mixer so liturally it is easy to equilize the mic before recording and even after recording. It sound even better on my voice than any other mics i had and on every male and female voice i tested on with a focusrite Connect to a mackie mixer and a dbx. They all was amazed so this cannot be a honest review at all.
the elm 103 you hear more detail , the wa8000 sound more smoother but less clear I have the tlm103 but I want to upgrade to something better, trying not to buy the u87 but it seem like that the only choice
Best thing was hearing the hardware Neve being used. I wish I would have seen this video because I just bought Apollo because I thought the Unison pres would do an accurate job for the Neve emulation but nah no way. It's definitely close but can't replace the hardware, no doubt in my personal opinion.
The wa 8000 is way better, i have it. And i do not regret it a second. It sounds very good, it sounds very open, and the high end is no problem to fix. You just plug it into a mixer, take off almost all the high, then a little bit mid and low, and get it to align with your voice using a equilizer on a mixer, than you getting it through a dbx 286s. Get a mixer, mackie or Yamaha or whatever you like and then you get a dbx, to use a deeser on the S sounds and it will be perfect.
To me the tlm is for an artist that speaks lower or like whisper parts of a song but if you are a loud mouth like meek mill the wa 8000 would be a better choice
Lol some comments below. Billy Eilish used the TLM 103, look how big she is now! Its nothing to do with the mic. The best mic is the artists singing into it. I own the u87, its an amazing mic. I bet the tlm 103 is great. The Sony, i own the C80, sounds Great. They all great. Sing something fantastic into them and they become a tool.
@@itsjordanfitzsimmonsWhy does the frequency show me that tlm 103 is way brighter, i had it, but it was unatural bright. The shure sm7b is darker sounding but not as open as i want for a mic and very much noise.
@@itsjordanfitzsimmonsThe crisp uppertone you can easily fix with a mixer and turn down the high a little but at the end of the frequency. But most of all, seing the specs of it and like compare the frequency to other microphones out there. Wa 8000 isn’t bad at all.
Sounds to me like with the Sony you're talking behind a blanket - even with the EQ you added. With the Neumann, it just sounds like you - so more natural. The Neumann wins for me..
With the Neumann you get a very high quality mic that will lasts for decades. With the Warm Audio you get a cheap USA branded mic (made in China if i'm right) that will surely will break down in 3-5 years. We don't see Warm Audio products in pro studios. We see Neumann.
TLM103 sounds more expensive like a balanced radio station sound which would bring the quality of my vocalist to a professional level, after a little EQ if needed but no problem. The WA-8000 sounds more clearer, but thinner or less warmer. The thing is I can buy a clearer sounding mic in a lot of brands, even in a few lower cost mics, but you can't buy that professional Neumann quality balanced radio sound in nothing lower than $1000 for the TLM103 to me. After hearing the differences, I would definitely keep the Neumann, until I can buy a better one of the brand. And I'd try out Sony's new $1000 lower cost C800 to see what that sound like. But now I see why all the professionals current and of the past used Neumann mics.
The WA 8000 definitely sounds better!!!!!.... I noticed your compressor is now the Heritage Audio Successor.... Did you stop using the Distressor?... And do you like the Successor more than the Distressor?.....

I’m just gonna be honest, i’ve studied microphones, so much audio equipment and tlm 103 is nothing good, you get a thin sound that sounds nasal on your voice and also way overly bright that it seems to be even hard to fix.

Tlm 103 is a bad mic, it sounds nasal, it sounds not good at all, and equilizer doesn’t even work when i had it, Cuz at the same time it is overly bright, it sounds like you have a hand in front of the microphone. Tlm 103 is not good at all. I had a lot of microphones in my studio, the audio technica is one of my favorites and the shure sm7b works very well. The thing with shure sm7b you need a good preamp to Get good clearity out of it, but a preamp can improve sound on all mics. Warm audio made a better mic than neumann did themselfs. The only good thing that has come out of neumann is the u87 which takes in alot of room noise and is expensive to get but you need a good studio to use it. Getting a shure sm7b you can Record everywhere and even wa 8000 handle much better room noise than the neumann mics did.
