    These smaller size pure sine wave devices would be perfect for a person living in an apartment who needed some way to keep the fridge running and at least one lamp, preferably an LED one, the LED lights are very low power consuming, A person with a house could use a gasoline generator if they wanted, but the apartment dweller can't.
    But if I lived somewhere that gets blizzards and then power outages, I would get something that can power a 1500 watt little space heater and the fridge and at least one lamp. Now we're talking around 2200 to 3000 watt inverters and two batteries linked together to give you at least 200AH of power. I would get a "Giandel", or a "Renogy" brand and a good Lithium deep cycle battery not a car starting battery. A 1000 watt for a computer or fridge and a lamp or two. A 2000W or better to give plus to add a little heater. But you are so right: you really do get what you pay for!

    After seeing this video, I decided to check my Bestek 500 watt PSW inverter. My oscilloscope shows a nice clean pure sine wave at idle and remains very clean all the way up to ~250 watts (which is the maximum I tried). It's even better than the power coming out of my wall. I can't explain why so many people are seeing modified waves and dirty power from their Bestek 500 PSW unless:
    1) Bestek has a major quality control issue allowing a large number of faulty boxes to ship
    2) these inverters are being built for Bestek by various manufacturers - (some being true PSW versions and others not)
    3) Bestek has corrected a manufacturing problem (mine was purchased less than a year ago)
    The bottom line appears to be that it's a hit or miss thing with these inverters. If you buy one, I'd test it well before the return period runs out. If you get a good one (like mine), great, otherwise send it back.

    Something is wrong here. I just got the same inverter and so I wanted to test it while I could still return it. With a measured 455 watt load I was still getting a nice sine wave at 122VRMS and 60.07 Hz. Sure looks like a pure sine wave inverter to me.

    A huge thank YOU!
    I was about to order this as it's still available via Amazon.
    But I was suspicious about it's claim of "pure sinewave."
    You confirmed my suspicions that it's JUNK!
    I had wanted a physically small one to just keep in the car, mostly for charging phones, tablet and maybe run a small TV now and then.
    We do have 2 big inverters, one which is about 3X bigger than that. That particular one is only 1,000 watts, but its sine wave is solid. Even at big loads.
    I can't leave that in the car because it's just too big and expensive. I wouldn't want it to get stolen.
    So thanks for saving me $$$$ as I'll clearly NOT buy that crap. LOL
    Thanks and cheers..

      Before even watching this video I want to point out that 90% of the inverters listed on Ebay and probably most online sites lie about the "Sine wave" details. They say Pure sine wave in the title but if you look in the details it almost always says modified. I have contacted many of them but it is still happening. I guess China can get away with anything.

    Appreciate this video so much. We've just come out of a power cut in the UK, the second this month so I'm looking at buying a budget Inverter to run our heading boiler and sober device chargers. I bought a modified sine wave 800W which worked to an extent but the boiler controls needed reset ever so often. I'm pretty sure this was due to the modified sine wave rather than the total current capacity..

    When they advertise 500W is that 500W peak, 500W peak to peak, 500W average, or 500W RMS??

    • @thelandlord2134
      @thelandlord2134 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Interesting question. Most inverters do say "X watts continuous, X+ watts peak" but I don't see that in the manual anywhere for this inverter, it just says 500 watts. It does say that it starts to limit at 600 watts AC output and the DC is fused at 80 amps. I was also able to get 450 watts out of mine and it didn't shut down or limit so I think it's probably 500 watts continuous and something between 600 and blowing the fuses peak. If someone tests that do make a comment with your results.

    Applying a non-linear load to a high impedance supply (inverter) will result in a non-sinusoidal voltage profile at the supply. A utility source has an extremely low impedance, so it is able to supply the high current demand of non-linear load, thus keeping the voltage profile sinusoidal. Not saying this inverter is great, but a linear load, an incandescent lamp, would have been better to determine the inverters' supply capability.

    • @Joeteck
      @Joeteck  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, it's a 12v inverter. Doing so would damage the device and most likely the equipment attached. And if I did it without a load it wouldn't be a good test. Besides any car battery going lower than 10v would be unrecoverable and will need to be replaced

    • @njfulwider5
      @njfulwider5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Joeteck right, but alot of DIYers like myself, use lithium Ion, or Life batteries when building solar generators. Most companies do the same. Unfortunately you can't really use 12v or 3s. But you should based on the specs. Use 4s. Just curious if maybe you tested the cutoff and over voltage of the 500 watt inverter. The manual is a little vague when it comes to the voltages. I do know, the 4s will use the most. I can only charge them to 3.75-3.85. If 15 volts is the max. But if it's 16 volts, I can charge to 4v. As for the low end of the voltage, even at 10v-11v. The batteries would only discharge to around 2.5-2.75, which is fine also. My battery is around 52 amp hours. But I'll loose a little charging to 3.85-4. But at that voltage, the batteries should be safer. Thanks for getting back to me, I just seen this inverter on Amazon and I was curious if you might have done this type of testing.

    It’s not the inverter it’s the battery. That looks like a car battery not a deep cycle battery. A car battery is made to give off a lot of power for short periods that’s why they tell you the cold crank amps. It’s the battery that can’t keep up with the inverter. As to a deep cycle battery that is meant to be under load for long periods and drain down. Draining a car battery will severely decrease its life span

      At idle, your alternator should be able to put out around 600 watts before it starts draining the battery. Coffee pots usually use more power than 300 watts, though, because of the almost instantaneous hot water need. You'd probably want to get a 1500 watt inverter for a coffee maker.

    my question is can i run a laptop for 6 hours or so constantly? a gaming laptop that pulls roughly 200 watts

    • @Joeteck
      @Joeteck  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, as long as you have a few batteries in parallel to maintain the current requirements. Let say it's a 17A draw, we multiple that by 6 (6 hour requirement) and we get 102Ah battery required. Just so you know, to convert watts into AMP or Visa versa, voltage X amps give you watts, or watts divided by volts gives you AMPS. 200/12 = 16.67.
      I rounded it up to 17Amps. Hope this helps.
      Plus you're gonna want to charge it to while playing, so you'll need something pretty strong to charge it quickly. You'll need a charger at least 20A, so if you use it while charging it will still give you 3.5AMPs of charging while using the computer. Personally 200W is a bit low for a gaming laptop. I would be very surprised if it was.. good luck.

    Wouldn't the test be more accurate with a battery charger on the battery while drawing the load on the inverter? To simulate a running engine/alternator? You don't think the voltage dipping below 12v would mess with it? That is a cheap lead acid WalMart battery...

    • @Joeteck
      @Joeteck  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually, no. A battery charger doesn't put out the same (AMPS) current as an alternator. Most inverter use is done after charge.

    • @Carlos-jh5tb
      @Carlos-jh5tb 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Joeteck well not a small charger. But for a 500watt inverter like this one that's designed to be used in a car. It's recommended you have the car running. A lead acid battery isn't meant to be discharged like that. A 40amp battery charger would have kept you above 12v and probably cleaned up your signal. That and better connections to the terminal.

    • @Joeteck
      @Joeteck  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Carlos-jh5tb actually its not designed to be used in a car. You are wrong. Connected to a battery directly. Nothing inside can sustain 500w. The 12v port can only do 120w.

    Bestek and Lvyuan are the only smaller pure sine wave inverters that I would buy on Amazon. I bought one of each. Both shine. Could this 500 watt that has made all the rukus go up on a lift for a checkup? Very educated meticulous people build these products and quality needs to populate the buyer's whims.

  • @kwacz

    its a garbage output inverter. didnt know they sold these but thats what it is. Also the pc i assume is using a switching power supply which converts the ac into dc then regulates it to the various voltages so the pc should not care how bad the output is. I used square wave inverter for pc's back in the day ands the pc didnt even know because of the power supply.

    What are those 12GA?! That's 41 amps, 500W 12V. Bare minimum 10GA, even at the short distance as shown in the video. I wouldn't do anything smaller than 4GA personally regardless. 40A sustained with 80A spikes.
