As somebody who gets nervous and self conscious very quickly, I'm not a big fan of these body language tips.
Sometimes I'm just not comfortable when put on the spot even if I'm telling the truth.
In my opinion it's a very slippery slope to assume you are being lied to up to 200 times a day (which I think is an awfully inflated number made up by pseudo-scientists, but that's another story).
My point is: you can never know what's going on inside peoples' heads. They might just be caught up in their own world.

these tips are all good and fine but when caught in a lie and confronted..these people make it all about you "you made me do this because" and it ends up that you get called names because they cannot defend themselves from their lies..things get brought up from 20 years ago and nobody gets anywhere..people like this we really need to get far away from no matter how sorry we feel for them and whatever obligation we feel
    because they won't seek treatment

oh.. now I get it why my therapist says that my body language is very interesting... At the session I show signs of being nervous / defensive, calm, confident, worried, and then the lies.. :D sometimes I try to control myself and sit still but that's too hard to keep and eye on yourself while having a conversation. And then I use some lies to skip issues that may be to hard for me to speak about. Liked the video! :)

I noticed that these tips require some time invested on the observation of a particular individual, which is great if you actually interact with that person on a regular basis. However, if I may make a suggestion, I'd like to mention 3 cues that I've learned with trying to spot deception:
    1) Fidgety body; because of the adrenaline of doing something you perceive as bad.
    2) Disparities between body language and speech; like you said at one point, your mouth says one thing but your face another.
    3) Evasion, like before, since the person might feel like they're doing something bad, their body posture might lean away from you, they won't keep eye contact, etc.
These are like a lighter, faster way of detecting deceptions with strangers or people you don't know very well but, if you'd like to be more certain, an in depth analysis like the one talked about in this video is essential.
    I really liked this topic.
    Thanks!

  • @DonQuixotec
    @DonQuixotec 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Best way of figuring out if someone speaks the truth, is to have them tell the story, then ask some control questions. Then a day or two after, ask them to tell the story again, and ask some control questions about that. If there are major inconsistencies, then they may be lying. There's no foolproof 100% way of telling if someone is lying, though. Some body languages can be useful in addition too, especially signs that they are nervous or suddenly uncomfortable. When people are nervous or uncomfortable, they often do something to feel they have control over something, like rubbing your arm, tapping fingers/hands/feet, moving the legs a lot etc. Good liars tell a story in a simple, short, easy to remember way, and force themselves to sit/stand in a relaxed manner, without moving a lot, and looking you straight in the eyes.

This is all a complete load of BS. In completely controlled conditions the ability to detect lies is extremely poor. It is generally only a little bit better that chance. The best forms of detection involve analysis of content in statements and this generally can get 70% accuracy in a laboratory. This is only 20% better than a coin toss and means you will be incorrect 30% of the time. Through the methods outlined by this clown, you will detect lies no better than someone tossing a coin to decide.

Am I don't think lying is a good place to start. Lying is actually a self defense mechanism tied to fear. Lying is a natural response to fear. We should observe the defensive behavior and not the lies it self. Also does it matter? That's a bigger question

Easy way to tell if someone is lying to you (or in this case, trying to scam you into buying something). You state false "facts" like there's 50/50 chance his method will work. 2ndly you try to look professional by wearing a suit with a tie that's a calming colour like green, not to mention the blue pocket square (which doesn't even match the rest of the outfit. 3rd, they post links to where you can get more info......which will turn into asking for money.

I honestly don't lie very often. However, I do tell a lot of half-truths, so I'm still not "technically" lying often...

I'm brutally honest... Even when my adhd kicks in. Lets not forget that some ppl are just not right in the head, but could be honest this first step he mentions don't skip it, because there are people who are honest, but over there like oh look a squirrel!!! And run to the window instead of answering right away lol

If you find nothing is unique, what are you gonna do? Sometimes someone else's behaviour automatically reflects on my action, even when I am telling the truth. If I say the same thing to many people in a different manner each time. Am I lying?

    hi to Realmenrealstyle.com ,
ok i agree with you on most points, but what if a person, is a nerves person like myself and after a few meeting with a person/client i feel relaxed ,to be able to talk. But in the first meeting i may be sweating a lot , i can't lie for a reason (if i lie i have seizes, so lieing is out of the question) so after a few moments i calm down and my metabolism get back to normal, and if i take a few moments to calm down before an interview, per say i can talk and its better(so i do take a moment or two) "so lieing isn't one of my strongest points , so i'm quite honest and this really upsets people , so sometimes i just sit and listen and ,
only say anything when i'm asked a direct question .
This really works well with me .
In a briefer note ,"i was a watchmaker for 30 years and lieing only harms one's business,so i haven't done it since i was a twenty something adult" . And yes i watch body langue all the time and my BS detector goes off often ,but i just learned to ignore it,or i just stop talking to these people , that's me .
    Mr A. Millar

Usually if they open their mouth. But that's just my experience. I'm not saying I've never lied, (that in of itself would be a lie) but not to the degree of most people I've been around.

this won't work. evidence and witness are the only way to know if someone is lying. you can consider some psychological studies, however, a wrong accusation can change the entire life or future of other person.

    • @RealMenRealStyle

+Hernan Matthew Eleazar At best you will have about a 50/50 chance of detecting if someone is lying to you. To start, you have to establish a baseline :) www.realmenrealstyle.com/lie-detection/

Real Men Real Style this is the reason why i came up to idea of changing the title to "ways to tell if someone is lying through interrogation" :)
In some statistic, 1% is considered unimportant since it is very less. But in considering the safety of people weather it is physically or psychologically, that 1% has to be observed. The chance is less, very less actually, but still, the fact that there is a "chance" should make us be observant of how we handle the questioning especially if the person is not keen to details. I believe that's what real men should do.
