My name is Bre. I took two years of small engine repair at the local college. When I left school, I fell into a wonderful job at a local small engine shop where I worked the counter for a couple years. In 2010 my husband and I opened up our own small engine shop in central Arkansas where I am able to work alongside my family and best friends. We see over 2,000 pieces of small engine equipment every year, and answer 1,000's of small engine questions. We specialize in brands such as Briggs and Stratton, Kohler, Echo and Shindaiwa, but work everyday on MANY other brands like Stihl, Husqvarna, Honda, Craftsman, Remington, Red Max, Troy Bilt, Scag, Bad Boy, Hustler, World Lawn, Poulan, Mantis, Etc.. Hopefully, my experience I share, will save you Time, Money and Frustration in the future!

I'm always building tools to help me restore Coleman lanterns. A 9/16" bent wrench is needed to loosen the burner frame nut. I also had to grind down a 15/16' deep well socket to remove and reinstall the valve from the fount. Cheers from eastern TN

I was glad to see that you installed a fuel shutoff valve in the fuel line - this is so important on any mower that has the fuel tank above the carburetor. I've lost track of the number of these engines on which I have seen both the needle valve in the carburetor, as well as the anti-backfire fuel cutoff valve at the bottom of the bowl, both leak ever so slightly, which can result in the cylinder filling up with fuel which then leaks past the rings into the oil. I had two neighbors who both lost engines due to this.
Oh, also I would suggest transferring over the engine air intake shroud which helps keep the engine from recirculating hot underhood air, from the dead engine. I'd sell it for at least $650.

Why didn't you show us you chasing the fuel tanks round the yard with the pressure washer? 😂
A little advice for an angle grinder with a wire wheel, use a grinder with variable speed set to slow if you can, if the wire wheel suddenly grabs it nearly breaks your wrist and throws the wheel out of balance making it vibrate like crazy until you get numb hands and throw it away. Yeah! Been there, done that! Lovely job once again 👏👏👏

With the cost of new mowers these days (both push mowers and riders), going the "repower" route is getting to be an attractive option for mower owners who have bad engines on good decks -- but you may have problems if you change engine brands.
In my own case, I had an MTD/Bolens push mower that I purchased in the year 2018 whose original 140cc Briggs & Stratton engine failed due to compression loss after the engine's air filter and its cover fell off while I was mowing with it and the engine probably then took in too much unfiltered air. So, wanting a quick replacement for this failed engine, I went down to the Harbor Freight Tools store in my area and purchased one of their 173cc vertical shaft Predator/"Chonda" engines, and though it bolted right onto the old MTD/Bolens mower deck, the crankshaft of this new engine was about ¼-inch longer than the one on the Briggs & Stratton engine it was replacing, which put the mower's blade uncomfortably close to being below the mower's housing.
So I had to do that engine swap job over again; this time putting rubber spacers between the new engine and the mower's deck, and I also had to add an engine throttle control cable to the mower's handle (about $11 from Home Depot) because the mower's original Briggs & Stratton engine didn't have one --- and now we'll see how this new engine performs with the new mowing season!
