Check Engine Light VSC TRAC Fix For Lexus GX470 GX 470 Easy Fix Repair Common to Toyota also

  • This is a specific fix for a common issue that got me quite worried initially. I’m not used to a Traction Control and VSC light coming on for a gas cap issue, but I guess in this car it’s common and the fix is a bad gas cap! This is the video showing the error codes I got and how many miles it took to fix it.
    Also this SUV sits here and there, and it sat unused for about 2 months when I broke my arm recently. So the low voltage issue was because it was truly low battery voltage, and as we all know low battery voltage can trip other errors, which is what tripped the computer error and the ABS error. Those codes are gone now too!

      Thank you for the comment. I tried to show every step. Some people still didn’t follow it and they say “I had the same lights and I just put a gas cap on, the light didn’t go away”. Then I ask if they read the codes and they say no. They go get the codes read at a local auto parts store and find out they didn’t have the same codes and then they wasted the time and money on a new gas cap. I hope it helps you!

    I went to Napa Auto Parts to purchase a new gas cap. The store staff assisted in checking the engine code for a restart, and afterward, the lights were fixed. I am thankful for the help, which I learned about by watching the TH-cam video.

    It worked for my 2004 Scion xB. Just wish I had seen the guy’s video before I went to the dealership and paid $44.91 for a new gas cap. I waited for 5 hours for them to tell me that I needed a new gas cap. The other gentleman cleaned his gas cap gasket and put it back and it was fixed. Plus he explained that you have to hear the proper number of clicks when you put the gas cap on. Then turn the car off, wait a few seconds and turn the car back on.

I hope that helps!

    I lost $45 at a local repair shop before I took it to the dealership. The local shop tightened my old gas cap and after a few days the lights were back on again. Then the owner reset the codes, but the lights came back on again after a few days.
    After that, I called the dealership and explained it to them. They told me to bring it in. I paid $44.91 just so I could wait for 5 hours and get a new gas cap. SHAMEFUL! But I’m glad nothing serious was wrong with my car. This is my second comment about my 2004 Scion xB gas cap issue.

    • @alexsystems2001
      @alexsystems2001  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m glad it worked! As for the heater, no I haven’t had any issues with it, I know there are some delicate diverter type things in the ducts that open and close behind the dash for directing it to certain vents (face, feet, defrost) so there could possibly be an issue with one of those sticking, on my SC430 I had an issue just once with the air conditioner only blowing out by the front windshield. I shut off the car for a bit, went in and had lunch, went back out and it has worked fine every since. There could also possibly have been an air bubble in the beater core behind the dash. That could happen. Please check back in and let us know what you find out.

After watching this video, I went to the local Lexus dealer, bought a genuine gas cap for 34.99 plus tax. Had the same issue, code C1201. I just installed the new gas cap from Advance Auto Part. Hopefully, this will work! Usually, it ties into one another when it has a blinking VSC and Engine light. I do not think I have an ABS issue, as my ABS light did not turn on. So I'll take the cheaper approach first.

    • @alexsystems2001
      @alexsystems2001  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I appreciate your comment but I showed the codes I got and mine were linked specifically to the evaporative emissions system. Evaporative emissions basically collects the evaporation from your fuel tank to ensure it doesn’t go unburned into the air. I believe your code has something to do with the ABS system. I have my doubts a gas cap will solve your issues but if they do please let me know. Each code is tripped by a system or signals from a sensor and your code seems to be from a completely different system.

      Fernando Torres I wouldn’t be sure about the quality of the gas cap, if the quality is the same there might be additional problems with your evaporative system, this is just an affordable start instead of starting with a mechanic trying to rip some people off.

      Thank you for your comment, I show in my video the diagnostic portion of the fix by using a code reader. I would highly recommend having your codes read, if you don’t have the same codes this may not work for you. As for performance, my performance was not affected at all by this issue. Often times local auto parts stores can read codes for free. I hope that helps.

    Did your gx get put into a “limp mode” when this happened? Mine had the same lights come on in that same sequence, and I had several of the same codes. But it threw my GX into “limp mode”.
    We cleared the codes and this cleared the lights and took it out of limp mode, but I am still going to look into this. My gas cap seal is still good.
    Thoughts?

    • @alexsystems2001
      @alexsystems2001  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for your comment. Is there anything specific about bank 1 and bank two? Sometimes if it’s just one bank it might be the actual oxygen sensor that’s bad. Bank 1 and bank 2 usually refers to a side of the engine. Being a V8 you have two sides to the V bank 1 side and bank 2 side. Sometimes if it reads bank 1 and bank 2 lean or rich. It could be a mass airflow sensor, it could be a vacuum leak somewhere. When you plug it in you’d probably want to read the data from those sensors as well to hopefully determine if any of them are giving false readings which would cause the lean or rich condition that your oxygen sensors are picking up. I have a LS460 that the valve cover gaskets leaked so much on one side of the engine it ruined the O2 sensor. So it wasn’t a problem with the actual engine running poorly, it was a bad sensor that was damaged by oil leaking. So you’d really need to dive in a little deeper and see what the sensors are reading and if any of them are bad. I hope that at least points you in the right direction.

    What do you think issue is for a lexus rx330 with a P0420 code? Bank 1 catalyst system

    • @alexsystems2001
      @alexsystems2001  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I am by no means an automotive mechanic. My video showed the solution to the one specific code I had with my car. However, I will throw my best guess of what that means out there.
      -To my understanding, “catalyst” means your catalytic converter. “Bank” usually refers to which side of the engine if you have a “V” engine you have exhaust coming out of each side of the engine one side would be “Bank 1” the other side would be “Bank 2”. So you have an oxygen sensor before your catalyst and after your catalyst. It compares incoming exhaust to outgoing exhaust to make sure your catalyst is doing its job. Usually if you have a code like that the oxygen sensor is detecting the catalyst isn’t doing its job. So it very well could possibly be a failed catalytic converter or the oxygen sensor associated with “Bank 1”. Usually from a good scan tool someone can read get the readings from the oxygen sensors and make sure they are reading correctly to help better narrow it down. I hope that at least provides a direction to look but again, I’m not an automotive mechanic and I don’t know anything about your specific car but my best guess if everything else was functioning normally I would have to guess a bad catalytic converter.

    • @alexsystems2001
      @alexsystems2001  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the comment, I wouldn’t know, the best guess I could throw out there to at least hope you get a diagnosis, usually autozone or other parts retailers can read the codes on your car for free and see what triggered it. The check engine light could mean many many things from transmission issues, engine misfire issues, emissions and oxygen sensor issues and I’ve gotten quite a few questions about things wrong with people’s cars but I show in my video me reading my codes on my car, you can’t even begin to diagnose something until you know for sure what triggered it. So my first suggestion is see what the code is. Who knows maybe you might have not plugged the sensor back in and turned on the ignition to check the headlight bulb then turned it off and the computer picked up that brief moment it was disconnected and the code could clear on its own, or the sensor could have been damaged and you need a new one. So you gotta know what triggered the light that’s the only way to start.

    • @ujayet
      @ujayet 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks I will run a diagnosed when I can... I think this VSC is a very unnecessary feature,, dealing with engine light should be enough.. now they have VSC and tire pressure tire lights...do you know how to completely remove this VSC system feature? You should do a video on unplugging this feature from a computer that would be awesome.

    • @alexsystems2001
      @alexsystems2001  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      loyaltyfamilyfirst thank you for the question, I wouldn’t know for sure, my thoughts on it though, it wouldn’t hurt to go to an auto parts store that reads the codes for free and see if you have similar codes and if you do a gas cap is a relatively inexpensive place to start. I posted this video because some mechanics/people look past the least expensive solution and sometimes before you know they have changed all vacuum lines and are suggesting a new engine 🤣. I hope this works, thank you for hitting that subscribe button. If you do give it a try please let us know how it works.

    • @loyaltyfamilyfirst

      Auto Zone confirmed it. The code was showing it was a gas cap. I pick it up from the dealer tomorrow, $22.00...Thank you in advance. My next question is, my ES 350 is push button start up. I don't have any buttons to push in regards to the VRC, TRAC marks or the check engine light. So how do I go about it?

    • @alexsystems2001
      @alexsystems2001  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      loyaltyfamilyfirst that’s good news! I am confused a little with your question though, are you asking how do you reset the lights? I can reset my lights with my code reader tool but for this video, I just drove it the lights went out on their own after about 40 miles. Then I checked for codes to see that the evap code went away. If the gas cap fixed the problem the computer takes a reading of its sensors here and there and if the problem stops existing the lights should shut themselves off after some miles maybe 40-100 miles (it varies). If the problem is still there the lights will stay on. If you want them off now a code reader scan tool will reset the lights.
