I went to Napa Auto Parts to purchase a new gas cap. The store staff assisted in checking the engine code for a restart, and afterward, the lights were fixed. I am thankful for the help, which I learned about by watching the TH-cam video.
It worked for my 2004 Scion xB. Just wish I had seen the guy’s video before I went to the dealership and paid $44.91 for a new gas cap. I waited for 5 hours for them to tell me that I needed a new gas cap. The other gentleman cleaned his gas cap gasket and put it back and it was fixed. Plus he explained that you have to hear the proper number of clicks when you put the gas cap on. Then turn the car off, wait a few seconds and turn the car back on.
I received my cap and I am VERY HAPPY and GRATEFUL to say that after about 3 short trips and about 100 miles the LIGHTS ALL WENT OFF!! Thank you so much. You probably saved my about $250 if I had kept my appointment at the local garage. Thanks very much
Those lights were on my Tundra and it ended up being because my coolant was all gone! I filled it up, disconnected the negative terminol on the battery for more than 10-minutes, and it worked!
Thank you for your contribution. Those lights can mean a whole bunch of things. That’s why I showed reading the codes too. I’m glad you figured out your issue you were having.
Thank you for the comment. I tried to show every step. Some people still didn’t follow it and they say “I had the same lights and I just put a gas cap on, the light didn’t go away”. Then I ask if they read the codes and they say no. They go get the codes read at a local auto parts store and find out they didn’t have the same codes and then they wasted the time and money on a new gas cap. I hope it helps you!
I lost $45 at a local repair shop before I took it to the dealership. The local shop tightened my old gas cap and after a few days the lights were back on again. Then the owner reset the codes, but the lights came back on again after a few days. After that, I called the dealership and explained it to them. They told me to bring it in. I paid $44.91 just so I could wait for 5 hours and get a new gas cap. SHAMEFUL! But I’m glad nothing serious was wrong with my car. This is my second comment about my 2004 Scion xB gas cap issue. I will share this information with my friends and family in case they have the same problem. Thank you.
Thank you so much. Took about 200 miles of driving, wasn’t sure it was gonna work but $18 gas cap fix the problem. Thank you. 2006 GX470. Gas cap seal was very stiff as well and was coming off very easily before replacing it
Out of town, we had this problem (after stopping for gas)…typed in problem & was connected w/you on 2nd attempt. Thank you for your place in our world. Lights off now😁🙏
So I got these lights. Watched you vid. Twisted the gas cap tighter, seemed loose. On Thursday evening. Drove home. Friday drove to the store and back still lights. Sat no driving, sunday got gas and the lights turned off during the drive home. Thanks for the tips.
I bought a cheap gas cap from Auto zone, it fixed the problem after driving around few days. But the engine light , VSC on again. After watching this video, I went to the local Lexus dealer, bought a genuine gas cap for 34.99 plus tax. After install the cap, push the ignition button engine light, VSC just disappear just like magic. Just like the gas cap and fuel tank entrance can sense each other.
Late Toyota Camry with the same trouble lights but different P0990 code (transmission fluid pressure). Funny how both check engine and traction lights came on at the same time. Thanks for the video, subscribed.
Thank you! I had the same issue, it took nearly 84 miles before clearing. I had my doubts, after a fill up, five miles later, it cleared-coincident, maybe. Thank you again.
@@alexsystems2001 I had the evap leak code but it went away. However the vsc issues persist. Are all VSCs accompanied by a dtc? I'm getting a transmission code p2757 but I don't think it's related. The o ring looked sound but I didn't feel it, and I saw what appeared to be hardened lubricant or sealant in the area.
Did this work for you? I’ve replaced my fuel filler cap before and still having the same issue. It’s a small plastic piece that’s cracked below/around the fuel filler cap. Supposedly an expensive fix since the whole fuel tank has to come out...
I hope this works for my 06 Acura TL, I have the same lights on and after you mentioned the gas cap I checked mine and it too seemed super easy to take off. I’ll be visiting Acura tomorrow lol my foxwell NT630 gave off very similar codes as your scanner did…
My Lexus VSC and TRAC Off came on for the first time yesterday and I was concerned. After watching your video I'm going to replace my Gas Cap to see if that works. I just subscribed to your channel and thanks for that information
Thank you, but please make sure to actually read your codes before you do. If you don’t have the same codes this probably won’t work. Most auto parts stores will read your codes for free. I’d never want to just replace parts. I hope it helps.
Thank you, worked for me! I had also tried two other suggestions: disconnect the battery for twenty minutes, and jump the two ODB pins that cause vehicle to enter VSC calibration mode.
Great video. Suggestion for video: stealership v. Auto zone. Test the over priced against the affordable. Test it, try it. Im sure people would watch for the entertainment value.
Had the same issue, code C1201. I just installed the new gas cap from Advance Auto Part. Hopefully, this will work! Usually, it ties into one another when it has a blinking VSC and Engine light. I do not think I have an ABS issue, as my ABS light did not turn on. So I'll take the cheaper approach first.
I appreciate your comment but I showed the codes I got and mine were linked specifically to the evaporative emissions system. Evaporative emissions basically collects the evaporation from your fuel tank to ensure it doesn’t go unburned into the air. I believe your code has something to do with the ABS system. I have my doubts a gas cap will solve your issues but if they do please let me know. Each code is tripped by a system or signals from a sensor and your code seems to be from a completely different system.

I really hope it works for you! I encourage everyone if they don’t have a scanner to pop in at an auto parts store that offers free code reading and make sure it’s an evap code which is what I had that would lead me to believe it is a fuel cap.

Great video. I have the same issue with my wife's GX470 2008, before spending money on a diagnostic, I will replace the gas cap. I liked and subscribed.
Thank you for the comment, I strongly recommend reading the codes before you just go buy a gas cap, that’s why I showed what codes I got, if you don’t have a code reader you can usually go to most chain auto parts stores and they can plug in a code reader and get your codes for you for free that way there is no money wasted. I hope that helps!
mark longoria I hope it helps, please follow up let us know if it worked for you or what worked for you. Did you hook it up to a code reader? If you don’t have one, places like auto zone and such will read the codes for you I believe for free.
I’ve got a Lexus IS-F an driving home the light came on. I thought it was the fuel I put in but I’m gonna try changing filler cap first. Thx again bro.
Please check your codes, if you have different codes this isn’t the fix. Also sometimes if you didn’t get the cap tight enough it’ll throw the same codes because of an evap leak. Most auto parts stores will check your codes for free.
I am unsure where you are looking but if you go to longo lexus website I think they have them for about $26. I hope that helps. Also make sure to read your codes. There have been a few people bellyaching because they got the same lights but didn’t bother to read the codes, put a new gas cap on and it didn’t work for them. They finally read the codes and it wasn’t the same issue.
I just wanted to let you know that your advice was on the money, literally. I had the same problem. I followed all your directions and after driving 90 miles with the new fuel cup, the warning lights are off. Thank you!
I have a 07 sequoia 4.7 limited had those lights on also, so changed the mass air flow, the fuel purge valve, pcv, injectors, coils, spark plugs, carbon box, and new 02 censors, and yes the gas cap, still the lights are on !!!!!!!!
I don’t mean any of this as rude, but did you read your codes? I showed in my video what codes I had, I showed the diagnostic process. The codes should get you pretty close to whatever your problem is. These lights will come on even if there is a transmission problem, a catalytic converter failure, an oxygen sensor issue etc. If you didn’t have a misfire code, why would you change the coils? If you didn’t have a lean/rich on a certain bank of oxygen sensors, why would you change the oxygen sensors? Again, this isn’t meant as rude but after all the time and expense you put into changing all those parts, if you don’t have a code associated with those parts, you are hurting your own wallet. Start on the right track, and read the codes to determine your problem, those lights come on because something is out of spec and the computer sensed it and stored a code regarding the issue.
Not at all brother, so yes she is running lean also so that's why all those changes which yeep you guessed it didn't do a dam thing either. But I do have the Vsc and trac lights on also with engine light !! Not at all rude brother say it how it is, I prefer that. Code is P0420 and P0430 all state catalyst system efficiency below threshold bank 2
@@matjenkins9025 oh darn, usually on a scan tool you can see the live output reading of the oxygen sensor in a graph. If you are getting movements or readings, it’s a high likelihood that would usually point me to the cat being bad. I don’t know about your specific situation with your car but there is a good possibility that’s the issue. Usually you have upstream and downstream oxygen sensors, one before the cat and one after the cat checking the functionality of the cat to make sure it is doing its job. Also usually on a V8 they have bank 1 and bank 2. One bank is one side of the V8 and the other bank is the other side so if it’s saying bank 2 and not bank 1 then it’s pointing to the cat on the bank 2 side of your engine. I hope that helps get you closer but I wouldn’t want to change another part it sounds like everything is working up until the cat on bank 2
@@alexsystems2001 awesome brother thank you and yes checked it and it is definitely a vapour leak from bank 2 by the looks of it ,,, pain in the ass. Reglazetech Oregon thank you very much for the positive comment and the subscribe! I have one coming up soon. My GX at a stop feels like it’s being bumped from behind lightly sometimes. It sounds like its a common problem. I’ve read greasing the universal joints on the drive shafts helps or fixes that problem. I’m going to try it and try to document it for TH-cam.
Thank you for your comment. Make sure to check your codes first, there have been some people who just plop on a new gas cap and they say “this didn’t work” I ask what codes they got and that say “I didn’t check the codes” 😅
I just ordered a new cap. Mine was exactly the same conditon (hard/flattened) While I am waiting for the cap I turned over the gasket to see if that might help in the meantime. Thanks very much.
Hi I have the same lights on my lexus is250. It came wene the vehicle noise change and it sounds like there is a hole somewhere in the exhaust. Also I plugged in obd and the code was p0430. Can you please help. Thanks
I hope it works, make sure to check your codes, some people don’t do that and their check engine light is on for a different reason and they get bummed that it didn’t work. Most places like autozone often will check your codes for free.
@@alexsystems2001 thank you Mister for the answer I totally understand, and thanks again because I don’t even have a idea about autozone does that for free🤞☺️ I’m brand new try to learning figure out problems in my car.😊😊😊
Just changed coils and plugs, allsix 07 RX350, Check engine, VSC and Trac Off lights still on. Will a drive cycle clear them? Or, clear from a cheap OBD2 tool? If not it may be the injectors.
I apologize but I don’t even know if that was what your problem was. If you fixed what the problem was the lights would probably go out eventually, if you didn’t they won’t. In the video I showed the code I got which didn’t have anything to do with the plugs and coils.
I am by no means an automotive mechanic. My video showed the solution to the one specific code I had with my car. However, I will throw my best guess of what that means out there. -To my understanding, “catalyst” means your catalytic converter. “Bank” usually refers to which side of the engine if you have a “V” engine you have exhaust coming out of each side of the engine one side would be “Bank 1” the other side would be “Bank 2”. So you have an oxygen sensor before your catalyst and after your catalyst. It compares incoming exhaust to outgoing exhaust to make sure your catalyst is doing its job. Usually if you have a code like that the oxygen sensor is detecting the catalyst isn’t doing its job. So it very well could possibly be a failed catalytic converter or the oxygen sensor associated with “Bank 1”. Usually from a good scan tool someone can read get the readings from the oxygen sensors and make sure they are reading correctly to help better narrow it down. I hope that at least provides a direction to look but again, I’m not an automotive mechanic and I don’t know anything about your specific car but my best guess if everything else was functioning normally I would have to guess a bad catalytic converter.
Jorge Taveras thank you for your comment! I hope it goes well. Have you read the codes? If not I think often times local auto parts stores will scan the codes for free if you don’t have your own code reader. What codes are you getting?
Jorge Taveras oh cool and interesting those are slightly different codes, thank you please share if they go away for you too! It’s always nice if it’s a quick easy fix. Maybe this fix will apply to a multitude of code combinations.
I have the same problem with my 02 es300 and it also triggers the ABS light. It comes and goes so I bought a new gas cap from Autozone but the problem persists. Error code is P0174. We cleaned the MAF but the problem still persists. Will try some more stuff on it.
Jake Alazruei thank you for the comment! I will do more as things break but these trucks are pretty well built. I have one planned soon, nothing broken, but just a PM of sorts and an experiment. Who knows maybe I’ll do a little off-roading video too.
Have similar problem with an 08 Lexus GS460, swapped out fuel cap, issue didn't clear up, so it has to be something else, I guess I will keep troubleshooting
Thank you for your comment, did you read your codes? If you don’t have a code reader most auto parts stores will read them for free for you that way you don’t have to just replace a bunch of parts.
Well, I hope it works for you too, some people don’t actually read their codes or have something similar but not the same or they buy an aftermarket gas cap and find out the lights don’t go away.
I just got a 2006 Lexus, and we bought it for 4k. The mileage is 22642 anyways ...all my lights just came on. The lady that vf had it before me, took really good care of it. My lexus have the same problem, Check Eng light, VCS Off and Trac Off light. I use my code reader and it said that P0356 (Ignition coil). Do y think that the problem triggered Check Eng light or just need to replace gas cap can shut all light?
I don’t think a gas cap has anything to do with the problem you are experiencing. I read the codes in my video and it was an evaporative emissions leak for me. It’s good you read your codes, a lot of people didn’t follow what I did and check the codes.
@@vinhvan728 I can’t say anything to what you are comfortable with fixing on your own that’s up to you. My video shows the code I got and what fixed that code. I wouldn’t just replace the gas cap. If I knew which coil and was comfortable with replacing it. I would certainly do it myself but your car and your comfort level may be different.
Aube this is why some caps work and some don't. Optimum Fuel Pressure On the inside, the caps can have two different breathing systems: vented or non-vented. A non-vented fuel cap is recommended when your fuel tank is ventilated through the filler neck, whereas the vented fuel cap is equipped with a special breathing valve so that it can be used on non-ventilated fuel tanks.

I enjoyed your video and will attempt the same repair.
Thank you. Make sure to not skip the step of reading your codes. If you don’t have the same codes, this probably won’t work.
good deal thank you.
just bought my lx 470 and it threw up the exact same thing for me. i might have to get a new gas cap :/ nice video !! thank you (-:
mark longoria I hope it helps, please follow up let us know if it worked for you or what worked for you.
Gass cap thank you it's been 2 day light has not came back on i replaced it all lights went i cleared code after i replace
I replaced my gas cap as well, mine too a little longer than 37miles though. I'd say around 90'ish miles it went away.
Awesome!
THANK YOU!!!
50 bucks for a cap is outright robbery!
Thank you!
Great video thank you for your service!
And cats are wickedly expensive these days man ,,,, thank you sir for your time and I will definitely keep in touch and watch your videos they are really good mate. Crack on making them and I will spread the links
Subscribed and liked , I Have a 2006 Model , Codes are misfires and system too lean bank 1 Bank 2 , Buying a New Gas Cap tomorrow and hopefully this will Work 🙏🏻 / Thanks For Posting This Video , Will comment again if this works out.. 🤞 🙏🏻 🤞 / sure is pretty stupid on Lexus part , for just a gas cap to get all those Christmas tree.. WoW 🤨
Be Blessed thank you for the positive comment I really hope it works out for you, if anything a gas cap is a cheap place to start. Please update us.
Thank you so much a simple gas cap fixed my problem!! Thank you!!

Thanks I'm going to try it now
Gonna try it!
I hope you read your codes and have the same code if not, it probably won’t help at all.
Thanks I have the same problem so I'm really going to do the same
Thank you for your comment.
Thank you for the comment, how did it work? Did you get your cap yet?
@@alexsystems2001 I just posted a new comment. Thanks.
@@richdilorenzo8145 hello. Did you get an auto zone one, or oem?
Hi I have the same lights on my lexus is250. It came wene the vehicle noise change and it sounds like there is a hole somewhere in the exhaust. Also I plugged in obd and the code was p0430. Can you please help. Thanks
Same issue with my 2006 thank you so much👍
Thank you so much, this worked on my 2006 GX470 and saved me a lot of money.
Thanks for the helpful video!
Thank you and I have subscribed
Thanks
Thank you so much your video help me and save money
Wowwww amazing I’m going to try this my mind was getting crazy thinking about it 🤗Than you ☺️
I hope it works, make sure to check your codes, some people don’t do that and their check engine light is on for a different reason and they get bummed that it didn’t work.
What do you think issue is for a lexus rx330 with a P0420 code? Bank 1 catalyst system
I am having the same problem. I got a new gas cap not from Lexus so I will see if it works. I put some mileage today and will let you know if it works
Jorge Taveras thank you for your comment! I hope it goes well. Have you read the codes? If not I think often times local auto parts stores will scan the codes for free if you don’t have your own code reader. What codes are you getting?
Bmwryder
p0455 evaporative emission system leak detected
P0441 evaporative emission system incorrect purge flow
P0455 evaporative emission system leak detected
P0441 evaporative emission system incorrect purge flow
Jorge Taveras oh cool and interesting those are slightly different codes, thank you please share if they go away for you too! It’s always nice if it’s a quick easy fix. Maybe this fix will apply to a multitude of code combinations.
Bmwryder I took it to autozone for codes again and the main one is egr vacuum
Jorge Taveras oh man, so have you had any luck with wiping out that check engine light?
I appreciate ur vid bro thx
I'm going try this with my 01 ls430 see if it works
I have the exact issue , I'm definitely gonna try this solution , thanks , subscribed already :)
Sam Daif thank you very much! I hope it works.
Good job thanks
I have the same problem with my 02 es300 and it also triggers the ABS light. It comes and goes so I bought a new gas cap from Autozone but the problem persists. Error code is P0174. We cleaned the MAF but the problem still persists. Will try some more stuff on it.
YOU ROCK THANK YOU SIR!!
Nice video, you should do more Gx470 videos!
Jake Alazruei thank you for the comment! I will do more as things break but these trucks are pretty well built. I have one planned soon, nothing broken, but just a PM of sorts and an experiment. Who knows maybe I’ll do a little off-roading video too.
Thanks a lot !!!
Great info! New sub here!
Well, we just got a cap from our local Lexus dlr, same part#, was 32.00
Have similar problem with an 08 Lexus GS460, swapped out fuel cap, issue didn't clear up, so it has to be something else, I guess I will keep troubleshooting
Thank you for your comment, did you read your codes? If you don’t have a code reader most auto parts stores will read them for free for you that way you don’t have to just replace a bunch of parts.
Thanks, just happened this morning.
Well, I hope it works for you too, some people don’t actually read their codes or have something similar but not the same or they buy an aftermarket gas cap and find out the lights don’t go away.
@@alexsystems2001 yeah had small leak evap codes. Cap seal was hard plastic. Purchased new Lexus cap, code cleared after 35+ miles.
@@edsonmercado1475 awesome!
I have a 05 Lexus ES 330 and mechanic told me we have to do a smoke test which cost 40$ for the test!
I just got a 2006 Lexus, and we bought it for 4k. The mileage is 22642 anyways
...all my lights just came on. The lady that vf had it before me, took really good care of it. Ghanged the oil and everything, on time , I have no idea what is wrong. I have only had it a month. It is a 2006 lexus rx330, 4wd. My check engine light has come on, maint.REQ, came on. And VSC, And TRAC OFF....all of these came on. And I am in a total and complete panic. I ha e been taking care of my vehicle, but I do not want to tell my husband this has happened today. I am so nervous and sick to my stomach good grief. Please, can you tell me what I should do. So, do I need to change my gas cap? Also, the I did get gas in Springfield yesterday, after my Drs. Appointment. We live an hour away, in the country, so, since gas was less in the city, I got it there. Thank you so much for your reply.

Was it cold or cooler weather when this happened, also had it warmed up when you noticed lights had went off.
I don’t really remember what the weather was like when I did the video but the lights never came back on so I don’t think the weather did much for my issue. I hope that helps.

@@alexsystems2001 so do you think i need to meet mechanic with this code and check for ignition coil? I haven’t change the new gas cap yet.
@@vinhvan728 I can’t say anything to what you are comfortable with fixing on your own that’s up to you. My video shows the code I got and what fixed that code. I wouldn’t just replace the gas cap. If I knew which coil and was comfortable with replacing it. I would certainly do it myself but your car and your comfort level may be different.
nice
Aube this is why some caps work and some don't.
Optimum Fuel Pressure
On the inside, the caps can have two different breathing systems: vented or non-vented. A non-vented fuel cap is recommended when your fuel tank is ventilated through the filler neck, whereas the vented fuel cap is equipped with a special breathing valve so that it can be used on non-ventilated fuel tanks.
I think you may have meant to post to another video. In mine I replaced a failing OEM gas cap with a new OEM gas cap. Thanks for watching either way.
Thanks man. I've subscribed as well.

I hope it works for you, make sure if you are getting parts before doing that read your codes, if you don’t have the same codes you might not get the same results. Thank you for watching
I bought a new cap from o rileys and mine still hasn’t cleared. Think I should order one from Lexus?
