      thegreendestiny Please, kindly save us the b.s.
      I have seen how big headed one of your types behaves if she can get a white man to date her, or marry her. You devalue your own men, and think of them as emasculated.
      But it's not like they think better of you. They're all trying to get with white women too.
      You do not complain the media doesn't have any east asian represrntation because your racual ideal is caucasian; i.e you do not want to see your own face on T.V. or in the movies.
      So your types may have reached the 'highest strata if society', but you guys are still mentally enslaved. Like I already said, there is greater reward for you, you think, in remaining silent. And fine, if yiu hate yourself, that's your prerogative. But kindly stop being a racist white person's miuth piece and putting down those who think something of themselves, and understand the concept of self love.

    • @onemillionpercent
      @onemillionpercent 7 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      both of y'all are saying such nasty things smh ^ agreed with the original comment, they advocate for all women of color because there needs to be more diversity in the fashion industry (and a lot of industries), not just with black models but Asian models and Hispanic models, indigenous models, etc.
      ALSO, I'm a South Asian, but sorry honey in one of the comments above, no self respecting Asian will consider them self in any way subservient to white people. Lmao, have you seen what Asians can do? Every race can do amazing things so don't deny that Asians on their own are insanely intelligent and talented and motivated, self made doctors, lawyers, business-people, and more.
      To the other commenter up there, don't compare Asians to black people though. Every race is cool, and insulting other races just cuz ur petty/salty and trying to argue against another bad comment (but going about it the wrong way) is NOT cool.

    It getting very tiring looking at white women all the time, its boring. I want to see diversity, see some black, Asian, Chinese, Indian, samoan, women. There is beauty in every race of women. If I were to own a modeling company, I would have all races of women in my company, nothing but beautiful women of all races and skin tones.

    Wow, The freight train of ignore-ance and white privilege has flown off the tracks here. Why is it that every time a black person points out a racist issue just about every white person wants to correct them and define racism for them? It is just ignorant for the power holders to define powerlessness.
    The obvious fact is that there is a shit ton of racism in the Fashion Industry. Whether New York, Milan or here in TX. As a Mixed Designer I am able to see both sides of this coin and I am not at all happy with the side that says "white is right". Hiding behind aesthetics is pure cowardice. I was awarded The Austin Fashion Week Critics Choice Award in 2013 with an image using a black model. That same year the runways in Austin were almost entirely without Diversity. NOT one Black Model walked in the "Official" AFW shows. This year being that the winning model last year was black we have seen a huge change. Austin's Next Top Model is a Black Model, There were 7 "Official" Models who were Black this year. Diversity has to be worked for and rewarded.
    Please unpack your backpack of white privilege and own up to the advantages that you take for granted based on your skin color.

      +Mister Benson I like your constructive comment, here's my take. I think the "White Privileged Blaming Game" has to stop (So Weak). BigNames like Naomi ,Iman tyra banks etc...have long history, made millions, strong connections. Why didn't they unite and create their own Fashion/Modeling Production?. I just dont understand. ( like Black Actors blaming the Oscars ). This is why i admire Ozwald Boateng, Tyler Perry etc..Even Oprah Winfrey can def help.
      This is Not *Racism* .It's about Culture beauty and Independence. "White Privileged Today" is BS and Excuses.

      By the way seeing every body saying "privilege" all the time since it became a buzzword is sad. You guys follow social vocab' trends and don't even have your own phrasing, way of describe/ qualify things. Medias can chose the way you talk for yourself basically.

      @oceans80 5 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Interesting point, especially since Naomi was able to break big in part from the support she received from Linda Evangelista and Christy Turlington - and that was the late 80's. I don't think any models would dare do that today. That's why the original supers are the only supers, they had real power and changed the industry.

    • @Landstalker1999
      @Landstalker1999 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think most people are scared of speaking up because they will be banned in the industry. Not legal or official ban but the word gets around and no designer will hire them. Naomi and Iman can speak up because they're already huge names in the industry and they have the social power to do so. However most new up and coming models cannot voice their opinions so easily. When Chanel Iman spoke up about how Victoria Secret is discriminatory, they fired her ass right after and Chanel Iman was already established at the time. Imagine what would happen if a new model spoke up. Her ass isn't getting anymore modeling jobs.

    Excuse me? The hands that Fed them? As far as I'm concerned, the brands mentioned in the list weren't the designers that solely employed them and "made them rich and famous". Back in Naomi and Iman's time, we were fortunate enough to have designers like Gianni Versace, Yves Saint Laurent, Karl Lagerfeld, HALSTON, & Isaac Mizrahi who embraced more than just one ethnicity. They're doing something perfectly (and positively) normal for a group of people that desire to work in such an expressive industry. And more importantly, why would it matter if they choose to date that of another race? If anything.... That would be THE PERFECT DEMONSTRATION that race is of no importance to them as it might be for others. If they choose to wear straight hair.... LET THEM BE.... Because I'm sure you'd still have something to say if either of them decided to wear their natural hair.
    GOOD JOB LADIES!

    Iman means it! But Naomi is such a hypocrite. She destroyed Tyra's modelling career back in the 90s because she wanted to be THE black model, and later blamed it on the modeling industry for only allowing 1 black girl...girl bye

      @@narlywaves2371 Yup when Chanel Iman talked about discriminatory practices of Victoria's Secret, they fired her ass right away. And remember Chanel Iman was already big by that time. For most models, even if they are successful their jobs are decided by designers and casting directors. If you accuse them of being racist your ass isn't getting any modeling jobs after that. It's easy for people to point fingers but imagine yourself in their shoes. Only reason Naomi and Iman can speak up now is because they're already huge in the industry and their livelihood doesn't depend on designers anymore. You can't fault them for not speaking up during their earlier years.

    When you go to NYFashion week or London Fashion Week, or any of these other places, you expect to see diversity, that to me is what fashion is all about. I think these rappers, singers, actors, and people of color who sit front row at these shows should voice their opinion and boycott these designers. I bet these designers would have some say in regard to who is in their show then. Yes people go to these shows to look at the clothing and how they are worn, and so it confuses me that they cannot include models that are Asian, Black, and Hispanic at their shows. I remember when Cindy, Naomi, Linda, and Helena ruled the runway and Naomi still knows how to work those legs. Say what you want but that chick is fierce.

      @ unknowndriver6652 stop. If white models and non white models had their features and skin colors removed a lot of white models would be replaced. Way too many are mediocre but are able to slide by because of their skin color or family’s money. Naomi actually had to work for it and many minorities have to work extra hard to be considered meanwhile a white model can get chosen at default because they’re white. Not because they’re a better model than the group of potential models.

      @ stringer-ik1pc funny they both have very successful businesses. Guess you weren’t keeping up. And look at that they’re still in business, making money and doing what they love despite the racists. It’s always funny how certain people always want black and brown people to “make their own” even when black and brown people were the ones who made a brand or person famous/well known alongside the rest of the population. And the same people saying “they should do their own” would whine and cry foul about “reverse racism” 🤣.

    Its pure economics, in the 70's and 80's black Americans were big consumers of ready to wear designer clothing like Calvin Klein, Donna Karan and Ralph Lauren and the green dollars of black people helped build the wealth and influence that these companies now have, but in global economy the image of the black model is no longer required to make a profit, indeed many find the black image offensive.

      This is just a small part of the equation....They did not ask for the Caucasian models to be replaced but for the others ethnic groups to be represented as well. Basically designers should represent all their paying costumers, and yes, it means Black, and Asians. The way ethnic models are represented on the runway or ad-campaign does not do justice to the money spend on designers goods by non-white consumers!

      I understood quite well. You can't state that it's no excuse for the industry's racist model hires, but then insist that Naomi's behavior contributed to the trend. Either one or the other of those statements is a non-sequitor. Re-read what you wrote. I stand by what I said.

    • @labouche5927

      Quite a silly argument not to elucidate in the first place. If you believe that a few models' behavior is enough of an excuse for designers to start homogenizing their catwalk lines with predominantly white models, you're merely playing into the designers' prejudice. A shame.

    I have a theory:
    Modeling is a way to use women as walking mannequins to sell clothes, makeup, & magazines for products & masturbation purposes. It is promoting vanity, lust, materialism, ego, & greed. Since the purpose is to make money off of vanity & sex, the fashion designers hire who people most want to throw the jack to, and unfortunately it is the people buying the magazines that cause the sales, & the fashion designers are responding to the sales. When someone chooses immoral work, with immoral people for immoral tasks for millions of dollars, then it’s quite common for the money to be more important than the feelings of their employees. I think that all races are beautiful, and if modeling was less
    about vanity(which causes women to feel their not pretty unless they buy such & such cosmetics & clothes), then all races, body types & ages could be celebrated & we could have a much healthier society.

Bethann is a pioneer in the modeling business as well as Iman/Naomi but it is what it is you can't tell a Homeowner for example what to put in their house if you don't own the home yourself. They focused on "American" designers and those designers are known for their "White All-American look". They should have added Michael Kors in on that. And yes they were outed as racist just in a more political correct way.
