From the early 70s to 2003...The era will never ever be duplicated again but there is a glimmer of hope with Imaan Hamman, Joan Smalls, Anna Ewers, Lily Donaldson, Teddy Quinlivan, Fei Fei Sun, Raquel Zimmermann, Adwoa Aboah, Cindy Bruna, Gigi, Josephine Le Tutour, Natasha Poly, Karlie Kloss, Jourdan Dunn, Anais Mali, Anja Rubik, Andreea Diaconu, Amyline Valade, Mariacarla Boscono💖💖💖, Daria Strokus, Lexi Boling, Binx Walton & Kaia Gerber. They can replicate the Supermodel Era...but these girls listed and a dozen others truly take their job serious, are being mentored by legendary designers & photographers. Like John Galliano taking Karlie under his wing and Alexander Wang with Binx & Lexi, Kaia (now) and Donatella with all the above listed. Lmao. I cannot wait for a few that I will never mention to cease from being seen in the industry and go on hiatus.

The "real" supermodels started with Pat Cleveland, Iman, Donyale Luna, Naomi Sims, Mounia, Jerry Hall, Lauren Hutton, Alva Chinn, Bethann Hardison, Beverly Johnson, Karen Bjornson
, Billie Blair, Dayle Haddon
....and many more. These girls paved the way for the other models.

But even the icons you respectfully listed were not able to catapult the attention and lucrative contracts & global exposure that those 5 women were able to do in the 90’s. It was because of them and key designers (especially Gianni Versace) that models finally earned the brand ambassador power to negotiate their cultural & fashion influence for models after as well as being light back to your lists of icons. Lauren Hutton definitely triggered the start of contracts, but the original Supermodels bypassed the clothes and products they advertised to become global household names. That’s actually the original birth of title Supermodel. So their credit as the “original supermodels” isn’t to diminish others, but fact is none of the others before or after catapulted the occupation and the business respectability and individual recognition that those women were able to accomplish.

Finally she got this award. She has had such a long career as a model for over 30 years and she is still killing it. She looks amazing and she has a body that most women will die to have. She has always been in great shape throughout her career and she looks a lot younger than the 48 year old woman that she is. She looks like she is in her late 20´s- early 30´s, in my opinion. :)

and I was mesmerized by her smile. Then I followed her otherworldy developments along all these years, always in awe for her beauty, energy, and brains. Maybe she's difficult but she really made/makes a difference - on a global scale - for the better. She deserves all she has accomplished and a monument.

It was not that long, really. The CFDA gives many awards, but the 'Fashion Icon Awards' was established only a few years ago, in 2014. And since the awards is for 'icons', they don't give it only to models or people in the fashion industry, but also to singers and people who have achieved an 'iconic' status. It is not an awards for modelling. As a matter of fact, Naomi Campbell is the ONLY model who got this awards, as a recognition that her fame and iconic status goes beyond the pictures and catwalks.
