  • We were honored to kick off 'Foggy Mountain Breakdown' at the 2012 IBMA awards show in memory of our banjo hero, Earl Scruggs. Thank you to the IBMA, the Scruggs family, Steve Martin, and fellow banjoists for allowing us to be part of this special event!

A smile on my face and tears in my eyes. Those 3 boys are incredible. You either love or hate bluegrass. It courses through my veins.

"A smile on my face and tears in my eyes..." That happens to me every time I hear bluegrass music! The high, lonesome sound that is beautiful and sad and exhilarating all at once.

Spirit of Earl Scruggs is in the young banjo player of Sleepy Man Banjo Boys.

That is one awesome collection of banjo players - I was amazed at the collection of "back-up" banjo players - Allison Brown, Tony Trishka, Terry Baucom - okay, I'm going to stop naming players, but that was about a dozen "All-Star" bands worth of musicians. Rest in honored peace, Earl, and Steve is right - no one played like Earl before, but ever since EVERYONE has tried to play like him. Even those who branch off into other styles and genres - like Bela Fleck - start off with Scruggs.

Dang they got everybody up there, Del Mccoury, JD Crowe, I'm surprised they didn't have Skaggs or Ronnie Mccoury out there on mandolin

He used to have an act way back with an arrow in his head. Don't know if he's done much since.
