    Embarrassingly intentional. She should have been pulled and taken off the team. She obviously couldn't handle losing and decided to be take her frustrations out on the players. Thankfully, Needville lost. They didn't deserve to win with this sort of unsportsmanlike conduct.

    The first hit made it look suspicious, but the second time confirmed it! You can see the right leg of the catcher brace for impact as she leaned in towards the oncoming runner and throws her elbow out. If this occurred in a boys sporting event there would’ve been a brawl.

    • @DayDream44
      @DayDream44 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tony Miller Actually she was not blocking the plate because the runner had room to touch the plate and if she was blocking the plate the runner would have run into her so it can be called an obstruction on the catcher so there for the catcher was not blocking the plate, but you are right that there needs to be a play at the plate but she was not blocking it. Next time do your research.

    • @katelyns7094
      @katelyns7094 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Rachel Schoch exactly it's so weird being a catcher because we are taught block the plate taught that your job is to to stop the runner from getting to the plate but then you also have to think about obstruction. It's a balancing act

      That's a judgement call for the umpire. I can see where some might call (or at least warn the catcher of) obstruction. And actually in the 2nd occurrence, the runner wasn't able to touch home plate and had to come back to step on it. So that IS obstruction.

      @Glennda Bradley
      Well “coach” it looks like you need a refresher on the rule book!
      The catchers job(just like any other baseman’s job) is to be there to make a play at the plate, but nowhere in the rule book will it say the catcher’s job is to “guard” the plate!!!
      No player on defense(those playing the infield and outfield while the opposing team is at bat), should be anywhere along the baseline(blocking runners from gaining access to the bases), unless the ball is being thrown in their immediate direction so as to make a tagging play at or near the base!!!
      The players running the bases cannot step out of the “base line”(they have to maintain their run within certain limits of the lines around the bases!!!
      If a defending player is standing in the baseline; thereby, causing the runner to step out of the baseline as they are progressing around the bases, that runner can be called out for stepping out of the baseline, no physical tag needs to be made in such a situation!!!!
      In other words, if you don’t want run over by the train, get your ass off the tracks!!

    When I was playing, which was some time ago, sometimes this kind of thing would happen. We were always taught by my coach "don't complain, don't say a word." The next time that player comes up to bat (in this instance being the catcher who threw the elbows), we'll solve the problem. Our solution? Head shots! That's right folks. One way or the other, when that catcher came up to bat, she was going to taste dirt. Period. End of conversation. Why? Because a dog is not going to change her bark. You have to pop it upside the head to get it's attention.

      @@APT420 hahahahaha! Okay but throwing an elbow is not the way to handle it. When I was catching, I talked more junk than anybody else just to rattle the batter. That's as much a part of baseball (or fastpitch) as the bat, ball, and glove. And the response to that is if a player is chirping at you, chirp back. So I can absolutely imagine this catcher talking trash and the other team responding in kind. And umpires will generally leave that alone unless it gets ugly or violent. But when you take it to the violent level by throwing elbows like that, you have to go. I simply cannot imagine that catcher not being ejected.

    As a former umpire in girls softball, the catcher was not blocking the base path. She was standing there where she could do just what she did. She should have been ejected with the first occurrence. It's definitely a gentler society we live in as the girls of 45 years ago would've gotten to her before I could and she'd be on her way to the ER instead of the bench. She'd been coached how to do that and had probably done it before.

    People, there is a simple way to end that once and for all. Next runner plows the catcher. End of story. The catcher was clear;y blocking the plate illegally, so plowing her over would be justified.
    Also, the next batter could take a VERY long swing and the catcher would get the message.
    The u pure was clueless, so he would not have called either the catcher getting flattened, or the catchers interference that a long swing would cause.
    These things have been going on for years, there’s a way to stop it on the field.
    Also, drilling the first batter in the next inning would make the catcher very unpopular with her teammates if they get drilled for what she did.

    And yet, she wasn't ejected from the game. And the school defending her action (of course) here is part of the news :
    Catcher elbows runners trying to score Needville (Texas) High School catcher Megan Crosby throws her elbow into multiple runners from Hargrave (Texas) High School trying to score. Crosby was not ejected from the game.
    This action, which is two isolated incidents, is truly out of character for her,” Curt Rhodes said. “We do not support the action, but she is a great young lady. We strongly support our students and coaches; they are talented, dedicated people.”

    First one was not intentional at 033 the runner was starting to lean in to make contact with catcher. Second one was retaliation for the first runner thinking she was going to take out the catcher. Both times catcher was out of base line.

    When my kids were little, I used to elbow them like that (well...not LIKE THAT...but you know...), when they got mad I'd tell them it is a side effect of some medicine I was taking. The medicine would "cause my elbow to move like this" and then I'd elbow them again. This is kinda like that.

    The fact that the 2nd infraction is even made possible by the same girl is the problem. It was an obvious cheap shot the first time. These men or women behind the plate are paid to call the game but also they're required to protect these kids on the field as well. By him not calling it the first time correctly is just enabling it to happen a second time. Very poor umpiring. Some are great and some are just there for a paycheck. Shame

    How in God's name can an umpire honestly sit there and watch that saying it was not intentionally done. I wish the cameras would have kept rolling to see what happened. The catcher should have been tossed out the game. I would also love to see the game prior to these events to see if the other team initiated something like this being done. There is usually two sides of each story. i am not saying they did anything but would like to know if something happened prior to this.

  • @russs7574
    @russs7574 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Absolutely intentional. Catcher was throwing a temper tantrum because her team was letting the game slip away from them. Two things: 1) I don't know if the field had a scoreboard or not, but if it does and I'm #4 (the second player she elbows), I'm coming back to the plate, and pointing to the scoreboard, and 2) If she doesn't get ejected from the second elbow, then the next time she comes up, it's an automatic drilling, and while a generally do not condone "head hunting," I'm telling my pitcher to go as high up as she feel comfortable....and if she's in a spot where she may not bat again, then their best player of the first three up next inning will be a suitable substitute.
    Normally, I don't sanction intentionally drilling batters or precipitating brawls, but this looks like one of those teams who will continue to engage in this sort of BS until the opponent sends them a forceful message to knock it off.
