    You can get a z440 ready to go with 1650v4, ssd, os, 32gb of ram for around 200. Cant build a 12400 for that. Your looking probably double the price.

      @@tech_evolved Maybe but for $200 and you can play any game. That's a hell of a deal. CPUz bench has the 1650v4 equivalent to an i7 8700k. Toss in a rx 6650 xt and you're looking at a budget build under $450. It's exactly what I just did. I went from an i5 2500k system to a z440 with 1650v4.

      Lets see.....
      Running on buggy chinese motherboard that doesn't even use x99 chipset.
      Running on dual channel instead of quad channel to negate the 12th gen fast memory advantage.
      Not to mention a good x99 chip board will run it at 4.0 all cores with correct bios options.
      You're missing the point... Use slower GPU or use 1440P or 4k.... Tons of money could be saved.

    This was a hugely unfair test if we're being honest. X99 is notorious for being heavily depedent on memory bandwidth, and deliberately NOT utilizing its capabilities is like benchmarking a Ryzen 3000 with 2133CL20 memory and saying it's trash.

      1969 single thread benchmark with the E5-2666 V3 with a clock speed of 2.9 GHz and a turbo speed of 3.5 GHz, using 135 watts with 10 cores and 20 threads. There's 25GB of L3.
      2123 single thread benchmark with rhe E5-1650 V3 with a clock speed of 3.5 GHz and turbo of 3.8 GHz, using 140 watts, and 15GB of L3 with 6 cores and 12 threads.
      It probably depends upon the title, but when single core performance is important, the E5-1650 V3 is probably preferable. If it's a title where more cores are able to be utilized, maybe not?
      I'm throwing a cheap moderate gaming rig together and I snagged the E5-1650 V3 on eBay for $14. I may eventually purchase an E5-1680 V4 for the motherboard when they're less expensive (around $56 right now), but I don't plan on doing heavy gaming or require high settings on the newest titles, so the E5-1650 V3 should suffice well, especially with its higher clock speed.
      The best overall gaming Xeon X99 CPU is probably the E5-1680 V4. The single thread ranking is 2322 and it has 8 cores and 16 threads, 20MB L3, 3.4 GHz clock speed and 4.0 GHz turbo. That's probably the overall best gaming option if you're willing to spend a little over $50.

    The moment I saw the price tag of the xeon I remembered the R5 1600AF that I recently bought for the same price.
    As you mentioned, the problem with these xeons nowadays is socket AM4. You can buy a cpu+motherboard for less than a 100$/€/£ and it will still perform worse than the i5 but better or at least the same with the Xeon.
    Only if you start overclocking on the X99 it starts closing the gap but the power consumption is also much higher than the 1600(af)

    • @tech_evolved
      @tech_evolved  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That is for sure. I feel AM4 was the death of the x99 platform for budget systems. Considering an x99 board is around 100 while b450 is around 65. Plus AMD provided a huge upgrade path as well. I’m thinking of doing a video on the r5 1600 vs e5 1650 to get a good picture.

    • @gorjaharchangel2267
      @gorjaharchangel2267 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@tech_evolved I agree. Up until the Ryzen 2000 generation, X99 still made a lot of sense. After that the IPC gains as well as the platform advantages (e.g. PCIE 4) made the AM4 a much clearer choice.
      X99 makes little to no sense for gaming nowadays as it is not cheaper and it consumes much more. Perhaps it has a good value for money when it comes to productivity with the 10,12,etc core models.
      I would be very interested in a comparison of the e5 with the r5 so I would really like to see it if you eventually end up making that video!
