A couple things - if you will put a couple of paper towels in your delicates box, things won’t slop around as much, and you can even use the corner of one of them to wrap your tiny sand dollars in. The other thing is, when you’re looking at an olive shell (or any gastropod) instead of referring to one end of it as the bottom, refer to that end as the posterior end and the Other end, where the siphon canal protrudes, as the anterior end, it better describes the shell. Really enjoyed your video.

Hi, I watch you every Sunday night and look so forward to joining you on your adventures. I live in Canada in Ontario which is in the middle of Canada and very far from the ocean… so… your weekly videos are a treat for someone who truly believes the stork dropped me off either to late or too soon!!! Question… how do the drills make holes in the other shells? Just wondering… Thank you for taking me along on your scrounge each week, I so look forward to your videos. Take care of you.
These seasnails typically do a lot of scraping for their food, so they have this "tongue" with all these little teeth on it. The snails that eat algae use it to scrape food off rocks and whatnot. The predator seasnails use this tongue to drill into other snail shells! Sometimes they can even excrete some acid to help the drilling process. It's a snail eat snail world out there!
When I lived in Florida, I loved searching for the smaller Sand Dollars. To keep them intact I had either a baby food jar or a larger prescription pill bottle and cap. Worked great! Barely ever had one break!
Geez, I’m only 5 minutes in and WOW! You definitely found the sweet spot, so much fun and so many beautiful shells..thanks for the beach walk Sharmon..❤🐚

I feel like a FMB local because of your fabulous videos, the beach seems as familiar as an old friend. Thank you for that. Nice haul, especially considering it’s high summer. The sand dollars are gorgeous.
Sharmon, thanks again for sharing such a nice adventure. I'm busy with my puppy so I have to be brief. Your finds that were my favs were that big lightning whelk, the gold colored olives, the sand dollars with those beautiful patterns and that odd moon snail shell. Have yourself a wonderful week!
Thank You Sharmon for another lovely day at the Beach. Fort Myers Beach is great for finding shells, that was where I found a lot last time I was there, too many years ago. I also went to Sanibel at that time. I went through my collection recently and thanks to you I can name some of the shells I picked up. It is always a pleasure to shell with you !! 😊
I never get tired of your videos! I wish I had a nice shelling beach to go to and just get away from people sometimes. Thanks for taking us along! It was such a great haul today! ❤ Question, near the end, when you show the shark eye, is that a glass table top with compartments?
My husband bought me a printer-drawer, which I turned into a table. We had to add a strip of wood around the bottom so I could attach legs, but it's a table that I'm going to put my special shells in so I can see them all the time!
That's a great idea! I have a hard time finding a coffee table with a glass top to display my favorite shells. Looks like you have great carpentry skills, too! ❤
Went to Normandie, France 🇫🇷for a D-Day special trip by coach. I walked breefly on the Utah and Omaha beaches. Looked for seashells and found some Banded Wedge shells (purple inside!), a Portuguese Oyster, a Razor shell and a lots of Slipper Limpets! Have glued the Banded Wedges and some of the Slipper Limpets onto three pictureframes. Now I just have to print out some pictures I took there and frame them in my shell frames!😅 Thank you for sharing your finds, Sharmon! Wow! What great finds you had! 🐚 Bye from 🇸🇪🌤
Oh my, what an overall wonderful beach walk!!! I love when you can get a variety of treasures from the sea ❤🎉❤. The spotted sand dollars give me the heebie jeebies. They look diseased. The weather was interesting to WATCH ALSO. Glad you went today!!!!
I live in Ocean Isle Beach NC. Our Beach faces the South which is in itself is unusual. We have had a lot of seaweed lately due to a constant south wind.
Dear Sharmon, What an amazing time at the beach! The shells you've found are incredible!❤ There are so many gorgeous shells that it is difficult to pick a favourite. I think that very pointy lettered olive and the pink spiney jewelbox are my favourites. But it's a close call! Unfortunately, again, no albino lettered olive. They really are a needle in a haystack. It's easier to find a junonia. I really, really hope you will find it once day. And we can witness your joy and happiness after you find it. We'll have a big online celebration!🍾🎉 I really love this piece of Fort Meyers beach. The shelling is almost all the time fantastic. I'm glad that there was no thunderstorm in your part of the coast. I know you are very careful. But the idea that you had to shelter in that little wooden gazebo (or whatever it was) wasn't so appealing to me. Thank goodness it was only rain! The tinies are so cute. You should put them in a little pendant locker and use it as a necklace. I have one with tiny pieces of seaglass. I bought it from the Scottish Mudlarks. It's so stunning. I get a lot of compliments when people see it. So I know such a necklace with tiny shells will be amazing, too! Well, my dear friend, Thank you so much for taking us with you on this wonderful beach walk. Letting us enjoy all the beautiful finds and give us some beach time. 🩵 I hope you have a wonderful week, filled with sunshine, less rain, amazing finds, and, of course, lots of joy and happiness. Big hug and lots of love, xoxo ❤, Ilona
This beach literally feels like an old friend. It's THE beach that convinced us to move to this area. I can't really imagine what my life would be like if we had moved elsewhere. Sometimes I wish I could remember what it was like to see things for the first time - shoot, I could go back and watch some of my old videos - LOL! And I will never take changes with lightning or anything unsafe. I have a great sense of adventure, but a stronger sense of safety! I hope you are feeling well and you have a great week! xoxoxo ❤️
Hi Sharmon! We haven’t forgotten you! Enjoy your content and would love to get you up to Cayo Costa and maybe Cabbage Key or Useppa! Your choice! Talk soon!
Wonderful, you found alot of beautiful shells. I didn't think you would find so many because you said finding shells in summer is slim pickings.😅 The copper jingle is my favorite, simple, but beautiful in colour and shape, and the pinky spiny jewel box was a great find, and of course the giraffe patterned sand dollars. Shapes, colours, patterns. Wow. Nature is incredible. Glad you made it and didn't get drenched in the rain and found a way to navigate around those rocks jutting out. Thanks for another wonderful virtual shelling expidition. 🌊⛱️
Summer is definitely slower for finding shells, but I'm getting pretty good at finding SOMETHING that will delight me every time I go to the beach. Sometimes the beach is way nicer to me than I'm expecting!
That is a great haul!! I was going to ask you to see the table but I saw that lovely thing in the background! Love it! Love all the shells. Hope your walks went well!! 4 years, no wonder I feel like I have been knowing you a long time. LOL Have a great week and see you Sunday! XOXO
A jar full of those hinged Crossbar Venus Clams would be really nice. Edit: East Coast... Conus delesserti. Nodipecten fragosus.... orange one. hinged. and mint.
I have never found a cone of any sort on the East Coast, but I've been on the lookout for conus delesserti. No nodipecten fragosus for me this East Coast trip but maybe next time! Finding those mint is hard!
Hi Sharmon, I just found out from another site that some seashells glow under UV light, it's amazing to see. Love love your video's thanks for taking us with you xx
I wanted to thank you for another wonderful video and let you know how much I appreciated you showing the blue dot (your location) on the Arial maps. I was way off in my mind of where I assumed you were. I'd love if you did that more often. Thank you so much!!! ❤
Noted! I used to do it all the time so I've done it for all the locations I've been to but for my new people it probably would help. Thanks for the reminder!
I'm so excited. My plans to go to Sanibel in Dec. 2022 were upended by Hurricane Ian, BUT...I have a friend moving to Florida this fall and I've been invited to visit!! Yay!! Do I know where she's going to live? No, not yet...I think it's on the east coast. But it's closer to your beaches than Washington State where I live. I think I'll borrow your word: Squeee!!!
Thank you so much for making these wonderful videos!! I have learned so much from you during the past few years! So can you tell me where the ‘spot’ is on Fort Myers Beach?
Hi!! Do you have tips on finding sand dollars? They are my favorite. I’ve only found one tiny one dead. I go to fort myers beach mostly mid/South Island. Tia!!
I was finding them just south of the old pier near the old Wyndham (dang hurricane). And then I juts a little south of that I was also getting lucky. Good luck!
My dear, that is NOT a lot of seaweed! Lol You should see the piles we get up here!!😁 I vote baby apple murex. Beautiful little spiny JB!! X 2! Nice LW too! I really like the half and half olives like that 1 you found. They're unique. You always do so well at FMB! I guess the trick is going all the way to the south end. With all the restoration still going on, is the parking keeping people away? There are plenty of people up here especially in the middle of the day like that. I got grounded this past week with COVID... Hope to see the beach this week. Thanks Sharmon! xxoo
There is no where to stay in that area, so almost everyone I see lives there and parking is about a mile away from the spot I like, so it's a haul to get to the good spot. It's so sad....there was a hotel on the beach with this great Tiki bar and we'd go for our Saturday walk and end our morning there with some iced tea. Now there is rubble or sand or fenced off areas. It's crazy how much still needs to be done. I think a lot more will be open this winter, but the island still has a long way to go.
@@SWFBeachLife I get there's no place to stay on FMB but there are plenty of places in FM. That's why it puzzles me there's no beach traffic... I know you're not complaining. 😊
@@gingermackeen5741 The north end of the island is way closer to main roads with a lot more parking. There is no point to go down where I like to go there unless you’re going for something specific (shells). North end has parking, food, shopping, etc. Once more condos and hotels open back up the people will return I’m sure!
That cross bar venus was pretty. Can you park near those buildings you showed us? So many beautiful shells. I can't get over those sand dollars. lol. And the sunray venus with the drill hole, I would make that a Christmas ornament. Love those Olives.
I mix 1 part white glue (like Elmers) with 1 part water and I paint that mixture on both the back and the front. If you put too much glue it will make the sand dollar look a little shiny, so I am careful to not put too much.
What a wonderful video and SO informative! I stumbled on your site a few months ago because I'm a treasure hunter (and TH-camr) and was heading to the west coast to do some metal detecting. My other half (my better half) is more of a sheller while I'm using the hardware to look for other kinds of treasures. Either way, we make it to the beach very often. I'm anxious to see what you find on the east coast. I'm over here in the Palm Beaches and have found a few location near Hutchinson Island and a bit further north for shelling. Where are you heading to? Thanks for the videos and keep them coming!
Hello! I received your email and I will respond there in kind. This East Coast trip I was back at Juno Beach. I wanted to try to find teeth and shells. I am so lucky to live on this side of the state! I'm sure I would have made do over on the East Coast, but we really have so many fabulous creatures that make shells here.
@@SWFBeachLife Yeah, Juno Beach is where I went last week to metal detect... I also met with a bunch of folks who were shelling (it was low tide and there were TONS there). I picked up a few shells but was more interested in using my metal detector at that time. However, I also managed to get a few sharks teeth. Super fun and a great beach.
Where is the best place to get a shell identification? I found a really nice looking one that i thought was a juvenile Florida fighting conch but it's not quite the same. I did a Google photo search and it said it's a shell from the East Indian ocean 😮
Best place depends on where you found the shell. In southwest Florida, the Sanibel Shell Museum has a very good online shell ID site: www.shellmuseum.org/shell-guide I also have 2 different books and another website I use. I wish there was one good source but I use several!

Thank you for this adventurous walk. So glad you were safe.. Nice collection of shells.
So great to share your beach walk🤩
Great finds
Thanks again for a fun trip to the beach!
I feel like a FMB local because of your fabulous videos, the beach seems as familiar as an old friend. Thank you for that. Nice haul, especially considering it’s high summer. The sand dollars are gorgeous.
My first instinct was to say "No, I don't need a sand dollar" but apparently I did 🤣 I hope you have a wonderful week!
Hey Sharman! Love your eye for color, and I have a weakness for Florida Fighting Conch as well! Get safe, and happy shelling!
This was a great video. What a variety of shells, great finds. Thank you for the adventure.
Thank you for watching!
Another lovely walk. Thank you Sharman. The shells are gorgeous!🐚
Thank you!!!
Wow such a wonderful shelling day! Esp for summer ❤ that lightning welk-wow
I know right?! Thank you so much for watching!
Maybe you discovered a new shell species? A Juvenile Florida Alphabet Fighting Conch! 😉
LOL 🤣🤣🤣
Sharmon, thanks again for sharing such a nice adventure. I'm busy with my puppy so I have to be brief. Your finds that were my favs were that big lightning whelk, the gold colored olives, the sand dollars with those beautiful patterns and that odd moon snail shell. Have yourself a wonderful week!
I hope you are enjoying that puppy! Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment! ❤️
Thanks for the beach walk!
Any time!
Amazing shells 🐚 🥰
Thank You Sharmon for another lovely day at the Beach. Fort Myers Beach is great for finding shells, that was where I found a lot last time I was there, too many years ago. I also went to Sanibel at that time. I went through my collection recently and thanks to you I can name some of the shells I picked up. It is always a pleasure to shell with you !! 😊
Thanks for choosing to come to the beach with me!
I never get tired of your videos! I wish I had a nice shelling beach to go to and just get away from people sometimes. Thanks for taking us along! It was such a great haul today! ❤
Question, near the end, when you show the shark eye, is that a glass table top with compartments?
My husband bought me a printer-drawer, which I turned into a table. We had to add a strip of wood around the bottom so I could attach legs, but it's a table that I'm going to put my special shells in so I can see them all the time!
That's a great idea! I have a hard time finding a coffee table with a glass top to display my favorite shells. Looks like you have great carpentry skills, too! ❤
@@trenttan3779 Caprentry and power tools are the husbands department 😂
Fabulous wow.....❤ Thanks so much for sharing
Went to Normandie, France 🇫🇷for a D-Day special trip by coach. I walked breefly on the Utah and Omaha beaches. Looked for seashells and found some Banded Wedge shells (purple inside!), a Portuguese Oyster, a Razor shell and a lots of Slipper Limpets! Have glued the Banded Wedges and some of the Slipper Limpets onto three pictureframes. Now I just have to print out some pictures I took there and frame them in my shell frames!😅
Thank you for sharing your finds, Sharmon! Wow! What great finds you had! 🐚
Bye from 🇸🇪🌤
What a special trip for such a special place. I love that you made your souvenirs! Thank you so much for watching!! 🙏🏼
Amazing Lighting Welk!
Greetings from Redondo Beach 🇺🇸🇺🇸 Beautiful beach 🏖
Thank you CA!!! 🌴🌊🐚
Thank you SO much for this! Used to live in NJ, haven’t been to the beach in over 20 years! I thoroughly enjoyed every minute, and subscribed! ❤
I moved here from NJ! Exit 163 in Bergen County. I don't miss it!!
Nice haul. I love those sand dollars and nice lightning whelks! Good day of shelling
Thank you for watching!
Oh my, what an overall wonderful beach walk!!! I love when you can get a variety of treasures from the sea ❤🎉❤. The spotted sand dollars give me the heebie jeebies. They look diseased. The weather was interesting to WATCH ALSO. Glad you went today!!!!
Oh that's interesting about your aversion to the spotted sand dollars! I love that there are so many different things to love, and to not love 😃
Where did you get your table?
I made that from a printer drawer my husband bought me 😊
@@SWFBeachLife great job!
I live in Ocean Isle Beach NC. Our Beach faces the South which is in itself is unusual. We have had a lot of seaweed lately due to a constant south wind.
There has been a lot more seaweed than I remember seeing in years past here.
Dear Sharmon,
What an amazing time at the beach! The shells you've found are incredible!❤
There are so many gorgeous shells that it is difficult to pick a favourite.
We'll have a big online celebration!🍾🎉
I really love this piece of Fort Meyers beach.
I hope you have a wonderful week, filled with sunshine, less rain, amazing finds, and, of course, lots of joy and happiness.
I hope you are feeling well and you have a great week! xoxoxo ❤️
Really nice shells fun trip thank you 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩💖💖💖💖
Thank you for watching! 💜
Hi Sharmon! We haven’t forgotten you! Enjoy your content and would love to get you up to Cayo Costa and maybe Cabbage Key or Useppa! Your choice! Talk soon!
I'll be here!
Oh if you were to sell my Texas shell 😮😂❤
I sell then all the time! We have lots and lots of them!! 😃
This is awesome! Thanks so much!!! ❤❤❤
Thank you for watching DeathSnacker! (Love that name!!!)
Wonderful, you found alot of beautiful shells. I didn't think you would find so many because you said finding shells in summer is slim pickings.😅
The copper jingle is my favorite, simple, but beautiful in colour and shape, and the pinky spiny jewel box was a great find, and of course the giraffe patterned sand dollars.
@@SWFBeachLife Yes, I csn imagine. I love the beach too.🐚🐚🐚
That is a great haul!! I was going to ask you to see the table but I saw that lovely thing in the background! Love it! Love all the shells. Hope your walks went well!! 4 years, no wonder I feel like I have been knowing you a long time. LOL Have a great week and see you Sunday! XOXO
I remember you telling me YEARS ago that I had nice nails 🥰 Kind words can go a long way beach friend!!! ❤️❤️❤️
@@SWFBeachLife still love the nails!!
@@jolynnburns4306 😘😘😘
A jar full of those hinged Crossbar Venus Clams would be really nice. Edit: East Coast... Conus delesserti. Nodipecten fragosus.... orange one. hinged. and mint.
I have never found a cone of any sort on the East Coast, but I've been on the lookout for conus delesserti. No nodipecten fragosus for me this East Coast trip but maybe next time! Finding those mint is hard!
The best time to look for shells on the beach is after a storm.
Hi Sharmon, I just found out from another site that some seashells glow under UV light, it's amazing to see. Love love your video's thanks for taking us with you xx
They sure do! I've shown this in a previous episode, but perhaps I should show it again!

@@SWFBeachLife oohhh yes please, must have missed that 1, will have a look back x
Do you ever go to Vanderbilt/Bonita beach? We used to rent there. My sister has a condo just south of the ritz.
I do shell north of there at Little Hickory, but I haven't spent much time at Bonita Beach per se.
I like your new very colourful watch!
Thank you!
Can you get sheets of bubble wrap to where you can layer in your container? That way you save your delicates.
I could, but I am spoiled! Since I live here I know I'll have the opportunity to find those little ones again.
I would say those are some pretty nice shells you found there, nothing wrong with the angel wings though, super nice haul❤
The angel wings all still had their little spoons too!
@@debnordman1640 I saw that!!! still perfect❤
SQUEEEEE!!! No matter where it is in Florida, it isn't more than 70 miles from a beach! I just looked it up. 😃😃😃
@@SWFBeachLife I'm hoping to come to FMBeach. Even if she's across the state, it's only a couple of hours.
@@jantaylor2034 Only 3 hours from Juno Beach area. Just did the drive last week. 😀
Thank you so much for making these wonderful videos!! I have learned so much from you during the past few years! So can you tell me where the ‘spot’ is on Fort Myers Beach?
It's the very south end of Fort Myers Beach.
HI Sharmon, can you tell me again what is the app to check the tide? Thank you
Sure thing! It's called Tides - I showed it in a previous episode: th-cam.com/video/skpXEeeU9ZU/w-d-xo.html
Hi. I sow it, but I do not remember. I was trying to find the episode, but... Thank you
Great finds!! I hope you can one day put a few little collections of just lettered olives in your Etsy shop! Hint hint lol 😆❤️
That is a great idea! I'll get some on there hopefully this week!
Good luck!
I've never thought about how these critters "drill" into other shells? How does that work?
These seasnails typically do a lot of scraping for their food, so they have this "tongue" with all these little teeth on it. The snails that eat algae use it to scrape food off rocks and whatnot. The predator seasnails use this tongue to drill into other snail shells! Sometimes they can even excrete some acid to help the drilling process. It's a snail eat snail world out there!
@@SWFBeachLife didn't know that! Thank you! My sister and I will be on Ft Meyers 7/27! Can't wait to hit the beach
There is no public parking in the area I like to shell, so I walk over a mile to get to the spots I really like 🥰
What do you seal the sand dollars with?
19:13 top middle of screen, white olive.
Yes it sure is! But it wasn't an albino 😩
Where is the best place to get a shell identification? I found a really nice looking one that i thought was a juvenile Florida fighting conch but it's not quite the same. I did a Google photo search and it said it's a shell from the East Indian ocean 😮
Best place depends on where you found the shell. In southwest Florida, the Sanibel Shell Museum has a very good online shell ID site: www.shellmuseum.org/shell-guide
I also have 2 different books and another website I use. I wish there was one good source but I use several!
Slow down when you show the haul, I'm trying to learn.
Love your channel!
