I'm grinning like a maniac over here - holy cow what a day you had! And it's only 3 minutes into the video!!!! I have never seen a shelling day like this one. Absolutely amazing! The Lion's Paws, Giants Eastern Murexes, the giant moonsnails in such incredible colors....the knobbed whelks, lightning whelks....I am gobsmacked. A QUEEN HELMET?? Another Lion's Paw? What next a junonia? This was so much fun to watch. I can only hope to have a day half this good in the future. Thank you so much for sharing!
I know right? I couldn't believe how crazy good that day was! I've never found so many Giant eastern murexes in such pristine condition, and it was unreal to find such nice Lion's paws. Out of all the shells I found the Queen helmet was definitely the most unexpected. They're so gosh darn hard to find in that area. I think a Junonia was the only other rare shell that could've made this even better, I have seen people find pieces of them there so I would guess it's possible. Thank you so much for watching and commenting!
I was just wondering if you might have watched this. Ever thought about taking your husband to North Carolina for the weekend? By the way, was this post hurricane shelling?
Oh man, what an awesome episode - one of your best, and honestly, in my opinion one of the best shelling features currently on TH-cam. This is TRULY what enthusiast shelling is all about... the excitement here is palpable! 🐚🐚 I've only been shelling at this place twice, and while I found some great stuff, I have to say I am jealous of your Giant Eastern Murex finds! Ironically, I have only ever found 1, or 2 very worn specimens in the Palm Beach/Juno area of Florida. I also really appreciate all of the beautiful Florida Fighting Conchs - it's so amazing to see them in abundance at the northern end of their range. Thanks for this episode, dude!
I really couldn't believe how good the shelling was that day! By far one of my best outings ever. I've never found such pristine Giant Eastern Murexes before so it was super exciting, and I never knew there were that many Fighting conchs out that way too. Really cool to be able to see this in areas that aren't that as well documented in terms of species abundance/diversity. Thank you so much for watching shell friend!
@@shellstories I’m sorry to hear that . We’ll be down at morehead city soon, so I’m stoked for the finds after the water recedes and all calms down .. stay safe out there!
@@Me-mt8it Apparently Brunswick county got hit pretty hard, lots of roads were flooded and are closed. I think further north was better though. Hopefully you'll find tons of awesome stuff!
What an amazing day of shelling! I would have paid big money to have been out there with you on this day. I absolutely love shells and you found so many awesome shells!
Thank you so much! I couldn't believe those lion's paws. I've only found pieces and little ones before so it was unbelievably exciting to finally find some big ones!
Thanks for your great videos, I love your printed narration so we can hear the ocean! I just came back from a weekend there and though there were no welks or murexes, I found baby ears, olives and a few bittersweets. But the real find was the sea biscuit fossils. With about 12 hours of beach walking, I found 8 perfect ones and a dozen less than perfect. And also 3 fossils of some other shell that looks kind of like a ridged mussel but curves to the side. Thanks for the info on the fossils or I would never have known they have them there!
That's awesome that you were able to go and congrats on all your finds! Those mystery shells could be fossils from the genus Exogyra, they seem to wash up fairly frequently around there. Thank you so much for watching!
You were in shell heaven! How did you ever carry all of that treasure.. such fabulous finds.. I love the juvenile helmet.. this was breathtaking watching to pick up one unexpected treasure at a time!!!!
The sea gods were very good to you. I live in Florida and I have every Florida shell but the lions paw and I would love to find a sun dial. I don’t have a giant Atlantic murex either one day though. Great video. 4:18
It was unreal. I hope you'll get your bucket list shells soon! I've only ever found a broken sundial (also in NC), it's still an elusive to me shell. Happy hunting :)
This video truly amazed me. I can't believe the great shells you found! Remind me when this was. You know I told you I keep trying to get to Holden but things keep getting in the way so now it's going to be winter shelling there for me like Jan-Feb . That's usually the best time but so cold. I hope I have half the luck you did on this trip. Loved seeing all your amazing finds of eastern murex, large shark eyes, large bittersweets and wow those Lions paws!!. So beautiful!!! Thanks again for sharing and I agree with others, your vids just aren't long enough.
This was in winter, so it should be prime shelling season for you. Plus in today's climate, highs in the 60s and 70s along the NC coastline aren't so rare anymore. I hope you find a ton of awesome stuff whenever you get to go! I couldn't believe how good that day was for the murexes. It's already difficult enough to find one mostly intact giant murex. Shelling can be so unpredictable! Thank you so much for watching :)
Hi! I'm a fairly new subscriber. Could you tell me, we're you directly on Holden Beach? Thoroughly enjoyed your finds! I've not seen a giant Eastern murex, they're beautiful! ❣️
I enjoyed your Holden Beach Walk. We are staying in the tiny house by the pier in a couple of weeks. Are you shelling near the pier? Were there many people shelling in the dark? Thanks
Generally speaking there are other people shelling in the dark too since it's such a popular beachcombing location, but shells are plentiful! Thank you for watching :)
Expert shellers would probably have had a wagon for this but it would've been too hard to pull one and film at the same time! Thank you for watching :)
Well, for this to have been longer I would had to have found even more shells! I am thinking about releasing a conjoined version of the two parts to this beach walk, so at least I have one quality ultra long video for those who want it :) Thank you so much for watching as always!

I grew up going to Holden Beach - never saw shells like this but man is that a special place. Thank you for sharing!
That's awesome! Shell situation changes every day, so you never know what you might encounter. Thank you for watching :)
Those murexes were spiked up. And that Lions Paw was FanTabulous. And the bakery was open, biscuits everywhere!
Thank you so much! It was my best day for Lion's paws and Giant eastern murexes for sure.

Definitely one of my best days ever, thank you so much!
The Queens helmet was the prize of the day! Great find, so jealous!
Definitely the most unexpected shell of that whole trip for me. Thank you so much for watching!
I’m dying over your finds!! I would assume that Shelli g after the flooding goes down from this storm is also going to bring in some great finds!

Love the lightnong whelks, especially the little ones
