I do find that the most incredible talent that you have (amongst all the rest) is to create a 2D template of a 3D part in cardboard and then cut, shape, weld and create that perfect 3D part for the car. Long time viewer of Binky and the same quality of fabrication is obvious!
Simply amazing Ryan. I just love some of the comments, people who have never tried to restore an old BMW or source new panels for them. If any of you guys read this, please take note, there are next to no new replacement panels available for these cars, and if there were, they would literally cost thousands of pounds. The car I am working on is a BMW 840Ci, 1998 model. It could really have done with a pair of rear quarter repair panels to fix the rust around the rear arches. A while ago these panels were still available from BMW Germany and were £1000 each! This is why we all make our own panels.
Its my new therapy, I reckon the calming music, as well as their ability to just do it and not get frustrated (on camera anyway) 😂 bloody brilliant work, thank you for sharing your efforts.
Marathon job and a super effort, Ryan, Always a pleasure watching you work and resolve rust's innumerable traps and human bodges to add to the effort! Brilliant job and I would have somehow got the reassembly awfully out of sequence and hurled bits of lovingly prepared repair panels, all over the workshop to mix with the superlative swear words!
It must be soooo satisfying to complete something like this sill reconstruction. There is a famous quote about character; “Character is the ability to finish a project once the enthusiasm has worn off” You have that in spades!
brilliant seeing someone with expertise tackle such a complicated job and make it look simple. step by step, piece by piece, you take the car apart and i am gobsmacked at how the car is gone in that section, and then you step by step put it back together again. really brilliant. you seem to think in metal.
33 mins of art. I've been shaking my head & grinning ear to ear watching yet again. I'm just in disbelief of what's possible & I think that BMX cardboard box must be pretty full by now. My 2 favourite current TH-cam series are this and the Tavarish P1 build. That's how I high regard this build 😲 Amazing stuff & it really looks like its coming along so can't wait for the next video.

In first few videos you could tell that the shell was in very very bad condition, but now it looks its worse than it appeared, more and more rust hidden. I admire the effort to bring this car back to life 👍

Ryan, Steve, really enjoy your videos. The detailed work you do is amazing to watch what you achieve. I hope it inspire others what is possible . Looking forward to your many videos, Thank you 😁👍
I really enjoyed watching this. Your fabrication skills are amazing...I couldn't reshape some of those parts. I found watching it take shape brilliant and actually therapeutic to watch with that great music, good choice 👍 Well done and keep up the good work. 🙂
I'm torn between "you guys are artists" and "why aren't there replacement panels available that would be so much easier". Right now I'm enjoying every minute of your videos and can't wait for the next. No matter what Mat pays, he *must* let you drive one of his cars as a bonus.
We are doing this for free for Mat, and yes that would be a bonus!! haha. We could get replacement panels but they are always cheaply made and thin metal.

I'm sure this has probably been asked before but this is the first video in this series I've seen, but why did you not dip or blast the car to strip all the paint and rust before doing the metal work.
Although i am a really big fan of BMW's from that period i really wonder WHY they put multiple sheets of metal over each other. It will have to do with strength and easier production, not imagining /taking into account that these cars would last 3, 4 decades. But, to quote Brittan's Great Philosopher Jeremy Clarckson: what could possibly go wrong?! On the other hand: i just have to admire how they did to design such a complicated construction -what bodywork/ a car is- without the use of computers. I reckon you are glad that you looked further than the outer panel to discover the rust behind the outer sheetmetal: now you make shure that the bodywork is solid. Question: why don't you use some kind of spray-gun to 'plaster' the hard to reach gaps between the bodypanels like on 32:10 ? Thanks again for this vid that is somehow very relaxing to watch.

Incredibly impressive work and great skills. Could you explain why you choose this method of fabricating lots of small patches instead of replacing the whole sill or the entire panel? I'm thinking pattern parts are probably still available and, if so, would this not save a lot of time and labour cost involved?
I honestly do admire your patience, but I suppose that's what it takes. I would like to know how many hours it in the end will have taken to restore the car. I don't know how I stumbled across your exploits but as someone in Australia who has always had a keen interest in anything automotive it is a privilege to see your work. Keep it coming!
