LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your videos. And Lori is GREAT with the camera. Hey Joe, something peeps need to know about Mazdas: I have two 2021, AWDs...CX5 and CX9. Great SUVs but the OEM tires suck. I changed them with Vredestein Quatrac Pro; wet traction is phenomenal. Also the tires have less rolling resistance, hence MUCH smoother ride. Even my wife who is NOT a car person noticed the difference in the ride. ALSO, for those in snow country, the tires are Severe Snow Service Rated (mountain symbol on the tire). "NO" I don't work for Vredestein, I just live by something my late father taught me when I got my first car many, many years ago, "Never go cheap on tires or brakes, they are your life line." Great video as always Joe. I have a 2020 CX-5 and Joe is on point with how the vehicle handles. It is one of the better handling SUV's you can buy in the segment. For those in the market for one I highly recommend.
If you want a fantastic driving experience, very few cars/SUVs can approach the feel of the BMW. But reliability is THE MOST IMPORTANT feature to look for in any vehicle. Period. And in that category, the Americans, Germans, Europeans simply cannot compete with Japanese car makers.
Love BMW. Had one for 20 years. But after my last BMW, for financial reasons needed to buy a reliable vehicle for less. Mazda has not disappointed, the handling is not the same as my BMW 330 but the gas mileage my Mazda 3 had was definitely much better than my BMW. Mazda has attractive cars (inside and out) more so than other Japanese cars and the only one still made in Japan. After two years of owning my Mazda 3, instead of going back to BMW like I planned I upgraded to a Mazda CX5 Grand Touring. Love my car!
Still love every Mazda product. And this is further proof. An amazingly well executed while not overly expensive premium product with the quality to back up the whole package. Mazda did its homework and put it into practice. A+ review too Joe. The world deserves a vehicle of this quality at this price and Mazda delivers!

I am in a CX-5 rental now. AWD but not the turbo. Hail the chassis that thinks it is BMW back when they still had magic in the tuning. The fit and finish punches above the price point. The handling, the quiet, just all around goodness. Solid too. I would spend my money on this!
Yes, Mazda CX-5 is my 1st choice for SUV but finally went for Hyundai Tucson 1.6T after your review with my own test drive......No regret till now.......
Why no regret until now? 😱 I also bought a 2021 Hyundai Tuscon Sport & I’ve always wondered why people don’t talk much about having a Tuscon as much as these or the Toyota RAV4 etc...
@@caps5194 After almost a year we still love it.Drives great and very good gas mileage for being an AWD. The AWD is really good in snow and predicts loss of traction instantaneously .I know this is nitpicking but the only thing we don't like is the key fob.The buttons are way to small and all shaped the same.I find I have to look at it to make sure the correct button is pushed. My wife curses it as she often pushes the panic button by mistake.Other than that I would recommend this car over others for quality and driveability.
Awesome review Joe, as always. Can you also mention the safety features of the car in future. I notice with a lot of reviewers, safety features are never mentioned. For a family guy, they are crucial.
I love Mazda SUV I had I had the 2016 Mazda CX-5 and I love that truck but I wanted to upgrade so my husband brought me the MAZDA CX5 Carbon edition 2 weeks ago and I’m so in love with it,and I even talked my husband into getting the Mazda 6 Turbo and he love it ❤️❤️❤️❤️
In Europe we get the 2.5-litre Skyactiv-G CX-5, but here the Japanese have managed to extract only 194hp. 194hp in a 2.5-litre engine, I don’t like that. It’s got AWD though, and mated to a 6-speed automatic like the one you’ve reviewed. Plus, in Europe we used to get these with a 2.2-litre diesel with 184hp; 6-speed manual or automatic transmission with FWD or AWD.
I love your shout out to Tucker, and I love that this car revived the swiveling headlights. My wife and I are probably going to buy one tomorrow just like this. Even this color, since it reminds me of a Saturn V or Space Shuttle.
My favourite is the machine grey. My 2019 was machine grey. The one I got now is the same white as in the video. I like it more than I thought I would.
Traded in my 2019 CX5 for the 2021. Just got it a few days ago. Didnt get the signature, got the GT Turbo (gotta have that turbo engine lol). Loving it so far. The few small changes are nice, especially the screen. Great little SUV. I find I can't go back to the big 7 seaters that I used to love. They feel way too big and heavy.
I have a 2017 mazda cx-5 and I personally like the feel of the 6speed automatic gear shifts it's transparent like I know what gear I'm in always and how fast I can go
I'm still hung up on this vehicle in spite of all the fancy happenings on Hyndai 😊. Comfort and good ride is more important to me. And especially a quiet cabin ride. I hear there's gonna be a a redesign of the cx5 in 2022 with that comes pricier tag so I may be able to get a deal on this model 🤞🏾
Like the fact that your reviews encompass various affordable makes and models. I should drive to FL so you can review my '09 MazdaSpeed3 GT with 16K+ miles. 😉
Hi! First time watching your video and I would say that your videographer is awesome. The edit is also an art. Last, cx-5 snowflake maica looks sooooo nice on your video (maybe it has something to do with the post process of the video?) CX-5 owner here by the way!
Can’t beat that mazda styling and driving experience! I have a 2020 CX9 and it drives like a sporty sedan! Fun fact, mine has touch screen in park or stopped, wonder why they changed it?
It is a good option for buyers... Mazda has been doing well for a while... however, placement of the usb connections matters...you can't have 5 passengers and connect... nice video JOE and Lori
I was thinking the same but in all practicality you probably aren’t going to buy this if you constantly have have 5 occupants and if you do then people just aren’t going to be plugging in every time or someone will carry a 10’ Cable and plug in via the front and stretch the cable to the 2nd row. But I would like to see Mazda move those ports to an always accessible place like everyone else. It makes more sense.
5 Adult humans rarely drive together, let alone more than 2. I don’t see what the big hoopla is about having connectivity in the back when there is rarely anyone ever back there.
@@billbigshlong382 I agree Mister Bigshlong! All this hoopla over a port to keep a device charged for a short trip! I can’t tell you when I’ve been in a car with 4 other people. It never happens. Not in decades. 2 others occasionally. And nobody needs a device hooked up we are sleeping or or talking while 1 drives. People are so spoiled in these divided states.
@@billbigshlong382 It's not a question of "5 adult humans." It's more likely to be an issue when 3 kids, each equipped with a phone, are sitting in the back seat.
@@2004cyrus I remember a time when kids would lie across the back window of a car (between the back window and the top of the back seat), while the car was filled with cigarette smoke, and no one was wearing a seatbelt, nor could a seatbelt be seen... those were the days!
I love how he says if you're detailing your engine you can put a couple drinks in the engine cup holders. I thought thats what they were used for in my mazda 3 😅
My wife is trading in her 2013 Hyundai Accent next year that she bought in 2012. We are looking strongly at a CX-5 Turbo, most likely used because they are a bit expensive brand new. Still plenty of other cars can come out in the next 12 months to change our mind. I can't wait to see what the CR-V and Rav4 bring to the table next year! I love your content and have watched almost every single video since I subscribed a few months ago. You guys rock!
GT6-I just got the CX5 Turbo 1 month ago. Love it. 2nd mazda (2006 M6) & the quality is much better now. Consumer reports rated the #1 quality brand in 2020 study. Highly recommend. Upscale & very smooth ride. If you can wait til June (in Canada) the info screen is getting bigger to 10" from 8. Unsure how will affect the price. Avoid the 2018's as they had paint & rust issues.
A 2021 cadillac escalade sport platinum esv is my dream car but I am 14 and I live in Barbados I also like the new 2022 ct5 v Blackwing is also my dream car to
Big Thanks... I thought I wanted the Carbon edition, but I like the heads up display and the paddle shift...and that Nappa...shame no black wheels though. White looks hot, I might have to see that in person. Machine Gray is my choice thus far, same color as my Miata. The silver wheels could get a pass with white though.
Excellent review! If the spoiler in the back stuck out more, the back window may not get so dusty as often? Had mine for 6-7 months. Could use door panel lights and one more cargo door light. This luxury based trim should have hood struts instead of a prop rod. I added my own struts. This Mazda has an amazing subtle growl when you put your foot into it. So much low end torque, almost V8 like. It was designed that way. It's a driver's car. The competition can't say that. Love having gears vs a CVT. Best highway mpg to date = 31.3
Love the review, it was very helpful! I am ready to buy a 2021 CX 5 Signature but have concerns about seat comfort. I have read comments where people complained about the fronts seats being uncomfortable when driving more than an hour or so.
Good review, I have an MX-5 and took it in for service and they gave me a 2021 CX-5 courtesy car for the day, nice car AND it had a touch screen with the three dial climate control my MX-5 has, so weird that I've seen several reviews where the interior is different, I'm in Canada.
JOE ~ I've driven 7,359 Mazda's (yesterday) & I tell ya what . . . some people might think what a plain interior, BUTT ya start driving, looking around the cabin - it hits you = BAMM this is high quality & ergonomics are near perfect. Mazda gives a person a near lux interior feeling (fit/finish) DANG GOOD BROTHER. what I like is the driving experience > quiet, smooth transmission, ride, handling, yet ya feel feed back - it's like ya morph into one with the car/SUV.cross over - I know, you know what I'm talk about. other Asian cars - the driving experience makes ya feel disconnected - kinda like playing a driving video game. sure there are nit picky things, but that's always the case with any car. Mazda's are easy to forgive for the short comings. the info-system is actually perfect for driving, plus exterior wise, Mazda has a unique trademark body design that's beautiful to these eyes. kinda reminds me of Lori - so beautiful & creative I almost feel like my breath has been taken away, best videographer in Florida - love you guys my brother & sister - tony
Got mine in November and absolutely love it! I was going to go with the Equinox but the upgrades to the infotainment and cameras for 2021 were too good and put the Mazda back on top for me. Great, thorough review as always! Now I need some twinkies...🤣
Wanted to like these, but test drove a 17 as that is all the y had to drive that day. I didn't experience the "zoom zoom" driving experience and found louder than I thought it would be with road noise. Finally went with a Rav Hybrid XSE and have no regrets. To each their own.
2017 produces significantly less power. They didn't start using the turbo in these till 2019 The NA engine- 186hp and 187 for the torque The turbo is 227hp regular gas/250 for premium (231/257 for 2022+) with 310 for torque on regular and 320 on premium
Mazda does knob shifting correctly (Forward to shift down to a lower gear, and pull to shift into a higher gear) Honda, Toyota, Volkswagen are you listening?
My wife just got the Mazda CX-5 2022 Carbon Edition. We drove it to Las Vegas and Arizona recently. Takes from a 2020 Subaru Forester Driver: 1)Driving-a little peppier than the Forester, but materials seems slightly better on the Subaru 2)Cruise Control-Much better on the Subaru, easier and more intuitive, the Steering Wheel Assist on the Mazda is Emergency Only, vs the Subaru which works as a stress relief while driving long distances. 3)Rear backup camera-fixed, and slightly dangerous, does not provide a guide to where the Mazda is going to go. Mazda should have done away with the auto rain sensing wipers and applied it to a better rear backup camera. 4)Display-Entertainment system-Extra star for the Mazda as long as you're okay not using touch screen, the wheel does everything, left, right up down and push, most of that will get you around pretty well. Did have sync issues but quickly solved. Subaru very straight forward, more rustic, and smaller, but meh, works. Subaru does have the Remote Start with Climate Control of which the Mazda does not have. 5)Rear seats -manageable on Mazda, the arm rest in the middle was cool w the USB ports. The Subaru does have a steeper recline and larger space to stretch out. 6)Vision Adaptability from the start-Time it gets to adapt to new car quickly Better on the Subaru, intuitive and cruise control was fluid, temperature outside right there on the dash with the 2nd screen, the Compass built into the auto dimming rear view mirror also quite clear. Mazda took some time to find where the information was, cruise control not as clear, mileage to tank empty etc 7)Tank Size-About 12 Gallons on the Mazda versus the Subaru's 18. It took us a full tank of Gas to get to Vegas, and the Miles left to an empty tank was too close to the overall mileage meter, slightly confusing. We got to the gas station with only 6 miles left to empty. On my Subaru it's a little under a half of a tank after we get to Vegas. 8)Seats-Props to Mazda on the red leather, very nice, I prefer cloth, but not a bad deal, cloth is only available on the basic trim. Both the Mazda and the Suburu are the two most reliable brands on CR, so hey my wife is driving this and not me, but we both agreed the Subaru is better for long distance trips and the Mazda is great for local driving for day to day.
I'm with you on the color. Too many white cars these days. Actually, the typical highway is a sea of white, black and gray cars now. I'd get it in Soul Red (Mazda's best color imo).
@@Mrtellitlikeitis have you driven a soul red Mazda? Just curious. I do every day and experience what I experience.... next car will be blue I think. This red is too flashy....
I have a Camry and Corolla and was thinking of a new Highlander. I bought the 2022 CX-5 S premium. I really like the handling interior heated leather seats. My kids are grown and we didn't need a seven seater either. Plus the price is 10-15k cheaper.
JR. You are hilarious! "Randon parking lot", "Shaking your internal organs", "Ruin thr family trip with Monopoly" 🤣🤣🤣🤣. Glad to watch humorous and informative vids! I'm super biased because Mazda is my favorite so of course I love this vehicle. Great job Lori on the camera!!! 🥳
Yes, the CX5 is the SUV to get compared with the competition. The CR-V is underwhelming, and the 1.5T has ongoing oil gas dilution issues, and under 200 HP. The RAV4 also falls short with the 2.5NA and could really use a better optional ICE engine for those that don't want a hybrid with its lackluster driving dynamics. The Mazda offers a good option with the 2.5T, and its near luxury interior.
I test drove this, and the biggest ZONK I have and for me was a deal-breaker. It's not for shorter people, yes I'm 5'5, and when I got my seat in a comfortable position. I had absolutely no center console armrest. I like to drive, especially longer distances where I can lean on that center armrest but I just couldn't get any of it. Well enough to be comfortable I should say. Other than that it was fun to drive, but not comfortable for me.
Congrats for highlighting the "Twinkies storage factor". So few reviewers do that and yet it's SO important to Americans. Yep, my 2019 CX-5 Grand Touring Reserve (2.5 L. turbo, AWD) is still looking better than the competition, especially in the "Soul Red Crystal;" (Candy Apple Red) of my SUV. Below are MY MODS. PERFORMANCE MODS-> 1.)K&N drop-in air filter (maybe adds 5 to 8 HP) 2.)Cork Sport stiff turbo down pipe (noticeably better throttle response) Also I added a Cork Sport oil catch can that keeps evil-looking brown liquid from getting back into the crankcase. TRIM MODS-> MAZDA roof racks, trunk privacy cover lighted door sill protectors, trunk carpet mat Ali Express (yes, China but very good quality) dual gas filled hood struts, many pieces of brushed aluminum interior trim BTW, you forgot to mention the turning headlights ("Adaptive Lighting")
I traded my 2017 cx5 gt for a new 2021 cx5 reserve turbo . Oo.... yeah worth every penny, very agile, quick when needed, very nice inside i recommend for the price versus other suv. I never thought i would have a mazda
What would you say fares better when comparing the CX5 to the Hyundai Santa Fe 2021 model. I am not sure if they are direct competitors but those are the 2 I'm going back and forth with. I really like all safety features and overall tech in the Santa Fe but I kind of prefer the layout of the center counole in the CX5. Is there any major thing that I should consider before making a final decision? I am leaning towardsthe Santa Fe right now, I really wish the CX5 was redesiged for 2021.
I’m in the same boat. I’ve narrowed down to these two, top trim levels. Santa Fe offers more features but isn’t as sexy as the CX-5. I’ve also had 3 Mazda’s that I’ve totally loved. My current ride is a 2016 CX-5 and it’s been great. I’d just like a little more room. Good luck shopping!
@@RaitisRides I actually bought two Mazdas ... A 2021 CX5 for me and a 2021 CX3 for my wife and we are so very pleased with them both. Thank you for this review.

I love my Machine Gray Metallic CX-5 Signature. The 6-speed auto works well with this application, sometimes less is more. It's a smooth operator for the most part. The design was done right the first time, it still looks good even against new and refreshed competition. I'm interested to see what Mazda does with the next gen CX-5/CX-50 in late 2022/early 2023 (according to my Mazda dealer).
I just got my Machine Grey CX-5 Signature a couple weeks ago, 100% agree with you on the 6-speed and the design. It's a beautiful vehicle that drives and handles great on the road, with more than enough power and definitely more than enough torque. I was also pleasantly surprised at the trunk space - I watched quite a few CX-5 reviews before test driving my car and the impression I got from those youtubers was that it was comically small at the back with many reviewers/commenters saying it was the car's weakest point and that it would be the number one reason to put off buyers. After seeing it in person though I'm not really sure what all the fuss was about. It's plenty enough for a small family with 1-2 kids. I mean yeah it's a CUV/Crossover, it's naturally going to have its limits in terms of cargo capacity on the lower end of the scale, but if people really need something bigger and cargo/trunk capacity is really that important to them then they need to be looking at a CX-9 or a similar midsize/large SUV, not complaining about the CX-5 lol. Honestly it's an amazing CUV that punches above its price tag (even in the Signature trim), super happy with my new ride. Only knock would be that it's not a hybrid, but then it isn't that much of a gas guzzler either, at least not compared to similar Inline-4 Turbos let alone a V6 or a V8 equipped SUV.
The energy was a little lower here but this guy works 24/7. He can’t be caffeinated constantly. I’m sure it’s a Grind. All the travel, setting up appointments to film, getting Lori pumped, remembering to take Twinkies, editing the videos quickly, replying to hundreds of comments. It’s not easy. There is so much competition in this space now that everyone wants to get on the TH-cam gravy train and quit their job.

I am in a CX-5 rental now. AWD but not the turbo. Hail the chassis that thinks it is BMW back when they still had magic in the tuning. The fit and finish punches above the price point. The handling, the quiet, just all around goodness. Solid too. I would spend my money on this!
10:19 "And they way the do the knobs, it feels like you are opening a Wells Fargo safe" Hahaha! Nice one.
Thanks Alex! I appreciate you saying that!
I like how we're being upgraded to actually seeing the twinkies being placed in the holders.
Love the sound when it kicks into 3rd gear.
These days you have to wonder if that sound is coming from the engine, or the speakers. (That’s a thing now. Lol)
We test drove a Sportage;Crosstrek;Forester;Equinox and then a CX5 AWD and it made up our mind within 2 miles. We pick up the CX5 this Friday.
How do you like it?
Sure will!
@@RaitisRides Thanks brother...
I love Mazda SUV I had I had the 2016 Mazda CX-5 and I love that truck but I wanted to upgrade so my husband brought me the MAZDA CX5 Carbon edition 2 weeks ago and I’m so in love with it,and I even talked my husband into getting the Mazda 6 Turbo and he love it ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Goat of car reviews.
Personally for me I would choose that bueatiful red on this car. Pops so nicely in the sun

I really like the CX5. It’s nice looking. It would have to be in Soul Red for me. Thanks for sharing it Joe! 👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸
I like your taste Larry!
My favourite is the machine grey. My 2019 was machine grey. The one I got now is the same white as in the video. I like it more than I thought I would.
As always a great review, hope the mazda 2.5t comes to Europe soon! Greetings from Bulgaria 🇧🇬 😀
Getting my CX-5 carbon turbo today evening. First car :>
Thanks man! I would love to review your car!
What color Pete?
Just came home with my 2021 CX 5 GT and my wife and I are in love!
How’s the gas mileage ?

You didn't rock out the Bose sound system with CenterPoint. It's incredible!
15:27 Joe, I think with black interiors on a bright day an extra source of light would make. The camera work better showing the cargo area.
I love how he says if you're detailing your engine you can put a couple drinks in the engine cup holders. I thought thats what they were used for in my mazda 3 😅
Don’t forget your jersey mikes in the door pocket :)
I bought a Cx5 Maxx Sport in white irregardless of your review 19 months ago.

Oh stop. Almost like a v8. Comical
320 ft lbs. @ 2,500 rpm is comical...
Thank you for another top-notch review.

Got mine in November and absolutely love it! I was going to go with the Equinox but the upgrades to the infotainment and cameras for 2021 were too good and put the Mazda back on top for me. Great, thorough review as always! Now I need some twinkies...🤣
not to mention that the Equinox is lacking in personality and design. That Mazda looks amazing.
I was in the same boat wanted a equinox originally.

They didn't start using the turbo in these till 2019
The NA engine- 186hp and 187 for the torque
The turbo is 227hp regular gas/250 for premium (231/257 for 2022+) with 310 for torque on regular and 320 on premium
Mazda does knob shifting correctly
(Forward to shift down to a lower gear, and pull to shift into a higher gear)
Honda, Toyota, Volkswagen are you listening?
My wife just got the Mazda CX-5 2022 Carbon Edition. We drove it to Las Vegas and Arizona recently. Takes from a 2020 Subaru Forester Driver:
1)Driving-a little peppier than the Forester, but materials seems slightly better on the Subaru
2)Cruise Control-Much better on the Subaru, easier and more intuitive, the Steering Wheel Assist on the Mazda is Emergency Only, vs the Subaru which works as a stress relief while driving long distances.
Mazda took some time to find where the information was, cruise control not as clear, mileage to tank empty etc
7)Tank Size-About 12 Gallons on the Mazda versus the Subaru's 18.
Mazda sure knows how to make a fancy vehicle for the money
I would say so : )
I'm with you on the color. Too many white cars these days. Actually, the typical highway is a sea of white, black and gray cars now. I'd get it in Soul Red (Mazda's best color imo).
Just be prepared to stand out with soul red. 6 months into driving my soul red Mazda I’m still extremely surprised at how others react to it!
Soul red is so played out
@@Mrtellitlikeitis have you driven a soul red Mazda? Just curious. I do every day and experience what I experience.... next car will be blue I think. This red is too flashy....

I have a Camry and Corolla and was thinking of a new Highlander. I bought the 2022 CX-5 S premium. I really like the handling interior heated leather seats. My kids are grown and we didn't need a seven seater either. Plus the price is 10-15k cheaper.

I look forward to seeing how many food references Joe can come up with when he compares the storage compartments...
Yes, I lovey everything about this car but no arm rest for shorter ppl is a huge concern for me since I love road trip
I like the Mazda are still killing it of their styling since 2017.💯😀
I can't decide between this and the Passport. I want more HP than the CR-V and RAV4 can offer. Don't trust Bronco yet. Thoughts?
Very well done review 👏 👍 👌. Thank you. I scheduled a test drive this weekend.
TRIM MODS-> MAZDA roof racks, trunk privacy cover lighted door sill protectors, trunk carpet mat
Ali Express (yes, China but very good quality) dual gas filled hood struts, many pieces of brushed aluminum interior trim
BTW, you forgot to mention the turning headlights ("Adaptive Lighting")
I got a coworker to pick up a leftover 2020 GT CX5 thanks to your reviews!
I traded my 2017 cx5 gt for a new 2021 cx5 reserve turbo . Oo.... yeah worth every penny, very agile, quick when needed, very nice inside i recommend for the price versus other suv. I never thought i would have a mazda
I am so glad that you like this one.

As always, great review, Joe.
How’s the On Throttle Brother, truthfully, you’re kinda subdued?? No giggles heard. Love you and your Wifey’s work!!
