In Saudi Arabia, when a foreigner had an accident, the Saudis would say the accident would not have happened if the foreigner was not there. In the South China Sea, the white men sailed their warships, not commercial ships, and claimed they were there for peace. What would they say if China or Russia were to sail their warships in their neighbourhood, around Hawaii or the Carribeans or in the English Channel?

@lumo 5691: Takeo Mori at times sounds like he is speaking on behalf of the USA and is putting out nothing short of obsequious, apple polishing narratives about Uncle Sam. His apprehension in uttering anything negative about USA is palpable and laughable.
He claims that he is disappointed that many countries remain neutral on Russia ‘s invasion of Ukraine.
India, the world’s largest democracy is one of the countries that has remained neutral and it’s hardly publicized in western media. At the least, unlike Japan and many European countries, India has the guts to act in its own interest.

I think it’s really necessary for experts to be non bias and be objective when making comments. Like journalists the credibilities of experts are seemingly falling, is this the outcome of social values decaying away by political agendas? I wonder how will we as a global community solved the problems in our world when we are unable to be truthful and accountable. Thankfully but saddened that there are very small handful of genuine people.

It is rather odd that the Japan's representative plaides for military alliance and strengh with the US, and then speak about Hiroshima as if that city and its population were located somewhere in the glob, not in Japan. He then moved to Ukraine to mimic his uncle Sam, who, only about 8 decads ago, has droped 2 nuke bombs on his people. At the beginning of his speach, he wants his Uncle Sam to establish the balance of military power in the region with China. He must be feeling threatened by the fact that China may summon Japan to be present in its Court to respond to its criminal accusations.

India is very distrustful of China considering earlier defeat and snatching of its territories in aksai chin in a previous attack by China..I think the root cause is the way in thus attack by China, India stupidly believed China, faced humiliating defeat and therefore once bitten twice shy..India will never make a mistake of trusting China ever again..at best the relations can be stable..India is also not a fool to side with US against China..While India's fear/distrust of China therefore has a root cause..why is Beijing wary or distrustful of India..you have bad intentions of taking current Indian territory and you are distrustful of India? If China is able to reassure India that it will respect current boundaries and not asserting it new found super powers, it will see a different Indian side..it is that simple.remember while China faced humiliations from white men, India faced Islmic invasion, occupation and then became a British colony...China doesn't know H of humiliation that India underwent through this..It doesn't want to suffer any additional humiliations now from a neighbour..such understanding on China's part will go a long way..but I dont think China has such understanding in it for its neighbours..so the status quo will remain...in dealing with India remember India has no history of attacking others territories (other than East Pakistan conversion to Bangladesh where India was forced to interfere because of millions of illegal immigrants and lack of global help to its call for help, then also it didn't grab any of land claiming pre British era it was part of India)

As per UNCLOS which China is a signatory of. The 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea gives nations an “exclusive economic zone,” or “EEZ” is an area of the ocean, generally extending 200 nautical miles (230 miles) beyond a nation's territorial sea, within which a coastal nation has jurisdiction over both living and nonliving resources which China is clearly violating,

Do not look good for China, big powerful ships attacking small no firepower philippine vessel. Asean countries do note such bullying. They will build up their military so as not to be bullied. China must act benevolent as a big power. Learn all the wrong ways the Western powers had acted historically and act differently. Unfortunately gunboat diplomacy and occupying and building just because you can, only reinforced China is no different from the West. Like this China lose more friends than actually it needs to. agree. but such dialogue should be initiated by china as the bigger party esp since it's china who will gain advantage in the negotiation as the stronger party. interestingly it seems like there are 2 leaderships in china: xi jin ping and on-the-ground/on-water PLA leaderhip. XJP talks about nice things all the time, but PLA behaves differently. this gives wrong message to other countries. at the end of the day, this is a battle of claims, that china and PH claim the same thing (china's claim is more ridiculous but in essence, it's still a battle of claims)...
in the olden days, a small atoll in the middle of the ocean was not claimed by anyone, now, everything has to be owned by a country...because by claiming an atoll, you get the territorial water + EEZ => you'll get the resources and your territory expands (better than invasion or colonisation in the olden days).

I am willing to wager US$10 million that China will not give warmongering USA a war by 2027 as predicted by Army General Mark Milley.
Mori is presenting obsequious and apple polishing narratives to please Japan’s master in USA. He appears so afraid to say anything negative that puts USA in a bad light.
So sad that he is disappointed that many countries remain neutral to Russia’s Ukraine invasion. Great talk (albeit tough and revealing). On reflection, listening to Cui Tiankai's comments on China and its relationship with Asia and the world, it was obvious the effect China's actions are having/had on the representatives, as they each returned to the common safety of their traditional Asian hierarchal talking points. For me, it is clear that US power in Asia is essential to help keep peace between nations that each see unique security challenges right on their borders. The biggest challenge is political compatibility. Currently, it is like VHS being democracy vs Beta being a one-party system (yes, I'm that old LOL) and it is not clear yet which format will win out. China is trying to sell Beta, but it seems people in Asia already own a VHS. As time goes by there is less and less reason to change to Beta and China seems to be saying it is Beta or nothing. China is risking being left behind by the world, not the other way around. The simple fact is, unless China becomes a democracy nothing will change in Asian relationships as they will just find more incompatibility with the global system and that will raise tensions higher. BTW great point on tourism, let the people decide by having a holiday, always the best way.
