    In the late 80s, when the succession process was heating up, LKY sent out a questionnaire asking his 'candidates' why they went into government. All replied that the high salary was the attractive part except one. This thin bespectacled young man said that the reason he is in politics is because SG is his home and this is where his future lies. Who is this thin bespectacled young man? You are listening to him. All the above are not my words. They are LKY's words. It does say a lot about the quality of the PAP political elite.

    Japan and the Philippines are cornerstones of the strategy to keep Asia poor and divided. This policy is articulated in the top-secret U.S. Foreign Policy written 76 years ago.
    February 24, 1948, Declassified U.S. Foreign Policy:
    Furthermore, we have about 50% of the world’s wealth but only 6.3% of its population. This disparity is particularly great as between ourselves and the peoples of Asia. In this situation, we cannot fail to be the object of envy and resentment. Our real task in the coming period is to devise a pattern of relationships which will permit us to maintain this position of disparity without positive detriment to our national security. ... that Japan and the Philippines will be found to be the corner-stones of such a Pacific security system and that if we can contrive to retain effective control over these areas there can be no serious threat to our security from the East within our time.
    Taiwan was added to the Pacific security system after Chiang's army retreated to the island of Taiwan in 1949. South Korea was added after the Korean War in 1953. The attempt with Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia was abandoned in 1975. The 1989 attempt in China failed. The 2019-2020 attempt in Hong Kong also failed.

      The question should be: why did they picked Japan and Philippines? They must have studied the characteristics of these people; hence these 2 societies will be just the launching boards for any counter offensive against the US. Obviously the Filipinos loved what the Japanese did to them during WW2 and likewise the Japanese loved what US did to them during the same war! Have a nice day!

    Looks like the US decided to play the Taiwan card after repeated failures in coercing china in recent months. The fact the US dictates how Taiwanese candidates should behave should tell you about Taiwan's "democracy". My understanding is that DPP candidates are also pre-screened by the US.

      @@raininthesouth I think you under estimate China's resolve and the fact that only the US has the power to project power around the world. Japan, South Korea, and the Philippines are bit players offering only token military support.
      And....obviously you falsify history. Sold out to the Manchus? Like China lost to the Manchu, the same goes for the release of Taiwan to Japan because it lost to Japan. It was a weak Chinese military that created these conditions, that no longer is the case.
      You perceive that China thinks invasion of Taiwan is a cakewalk is obviously naive. That saying: never under estimate your enemy applies to your comments. The world recognizes one China and Taiwan is a a part of China. The PRC is recognized by the world as the one China. That is the reality of today.
      The US is using Taiwan, as it has used others, like Ukraine, to further its own interests, not because of democracy. The US allies itself with dictatorships when those dictators are in America's interest. American democracy is a faux mask that is currently in the process of decline.
      Your thinking that there is an alliance backing Taiwan is a false narrative, the same narrative that Ukraine thought that NATO nations would back Ukraine against Russia. Ukraine was used by the US to weaken Russia, hoping to divide Russia into smaller pieces to take over Russia's mineral and energy wealth. The same applies to Taiwan. If Taiwan can weaken China, the US plan is to carve up China in a similar plan for the imperialists to rule the world. Unfortunately you play into that plan.

    It is good that George Yeo speaks his mind on the sensitive issues of China, America and Philippines. Just like in a game of poker-ice, he lifted up the container and exposed the dice called by the player. In this way, people are more aware of the prevailing dangers and pitfalls in cultural milieu of the nations involved in the issues of the South China Seas that the Americans, the Philippines and the Japanese are luring them in. Would disagree on statement of Asean is being united. Philippines have territorial claim against China near the SCS and actually this is peanut. Getting on board with US to provoke China. But the other key issues was Sabah. Philippines is still claiming Sabah which voted to join Malaysia decades ago and Philippines refused to accept this referendum organised by Britain during the formation of Malaysia to include Sabah, Sarawak and Brunei. Of course Brunei chose to declare independence and not joining Malaysia. Philippines is a weak link in Asean bonding. Today is the tiny island at SCS, tmw it could be Sabah.

    • @GlobalTribal
      @GlobalTribal 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@spidermann1256 Old records dating back to 16th century actually suggest both China and Vietnam have control of Spratley and Paracel islands. The issue is if control and claim are unbroken and for how long. In the the last century, France (having colonised Vietnam) and Japan had control for a few years during which China maintained it's claim. The Philippines started it's claim only in the late 70's. Have a laugh. Neither Spain nor the US (which used to own the Philippines) claim those islands so Ph does not inherit those islands. Vietnam and China have the most credible claims over these islands and waters around them. But now Ph have actual control over 5 islands. As opposed to Western media's portrayal, China is extremely moderate in it's behavior towards Ph, a country that in it's view have stolen it's territories. It is Ph, instigated by the US, who is provoking China with staged confrontations with western journalists onboard their vessels to produce their anti-China articles.

    100% tax on EV is NOTHING! Totally feasible . Singapore has a COE or tax required to own a car for 10 years. And this amount can fluctuate between $75k sgd to $150k sgd. It can also be lower or higher than this range. So if a new car is $70k base price, if the COE today is $100k, I need to pay $170k just to own the car for 10 short years. After 10 years you buy the COE again! So this example already shows more than 100% taxation

      FYI, when i went to China conducting company business, was confronted by certain business individuals during dinner with confrontation questions like why Spore Govt is so pro US. Chinese people is up todate on international geopolitics. Do not take for granted just because Spore is Chinese majority.

    George Yeo is wrong in that there is a substantial number of Filipinos who are anti-American, especially in the Northern & Central rural areas, where the Huks are still active, and in the South where the Islamists are still active, and in the Labor movement, where the US is perceived as always siding with the elitist establishment.
