    David, you are a gift. I use my 85/1.8 on my d700 and on my F4 with BandW and color neg and transparencies.

      That lens was shockingly good for what it cost. You could do alot worse in my opinion. Thank you!!!

    I have a Nikon D810 with a Nikon 85mm 1.8 D lens my camera cannot change the aperture regardless of whether it's in aperture priority or manual mode. The lens is set and locked at f16 which should let the lens communicate with the camera. The aperture is automatically set to f16 on the camera and stays there unable to be changed. I am however able to manually change the aperture on the lens barrel and works fine that way however that is not ideal for me.
    Thoughts?

    • @davidsaylors
      @davidsaylors  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. Try this. Set it to f16, then throw the little switch that locks the aperture ring while at f16. This activates auto aperture control and turns it over to the camera. That should solve your problem.

    LOVE your accent! I moved from St Louis to be with my husband from Alabama and the accents have been an experience here! lol I chose the 1.8d over the 1.8g as well.

      That is an amazing lens and comes ata a bargain to boot. Thank you for the compliment, I feel a little privileged to be able to grow up where I did. It is special to me. Alabama is awesome, that is where my wife is from. 👍😉📸

    One of my favorite portrait lenses on my D850. Awesome lens. Shot some great portraits two weeks ago wide open. Just focus on the eye closest to you! Oh, and calibrate it to the camera. It's light weight too!

    • @davidsaylors

      Thanks for the calibration tip! I forgot about that!!! Yes, I like how light it is. AND that is looks great wide open. 👊

      David Saylors I may be wrong but I don't think it is a current production lens so he/Nikon won't put it out there. Thanks again for the mention and examples of what the lens can do. 👊🤝

    Would you say this would be a good choice for small concert photography??

    • @davidsaylors
      @davidsaylors  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It would be great since it has a large aperture, but you might find it coming up short on length. I would probably take a 70-200mm f2.8 instead so I had a little more breathing room for composition and zoom. You could get great photos with it though, just have to get to the right spots.

    • @Zakmeister

      @@davidsaylors only thing is the venue I’m going to be at is fairly small. Maybe 300 person capacity and I’m pretty sure I’m going to be on stage, so staying close wouldn’t be a problem.

    • @davidsaylors
      @davidsaylors  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I like the D series because they work with all my Autofocus film bodies. And they work on the manual focus AI bodies like my F3. If you're shooting hybrid they offer more value.

    l got a used one a few years ago. lt has really good image quality. But l wish l bought the G because this lens doesn't autofocus on my D40 and D5300. So l have to use it on the D7100 for AF. And the G has rounded aperture blades.

    • @davidsaylors
      @davidsaylors  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with you on the G but mainly because it is lighter as well as slightly better. I dont have any cameras for it that wont focus it, so that is not an issue for me. It is one of the reasons I didnt get a new Z series body though. They wont focus these lenses. I kinda like the aperture blades too. Rounds make cleaner bokeh, but these are unique.
