How Do You Move A 116,000 Pound Mural? Carefully!

The City of Mobile is taking great care to remove and preserve Conrad Albrizio’s mosaics “Mardi Gras” and “Circus” from the Mobile Civic Center. Once construction begins, they will be installed in the new arena, which is expected to break ground this spring.
Moving these murals is no easy task, as each measures 16 feet tall, 45 feet wide, and weighs an estimated 58 tons. This effort is being led by ICC Commonwealth, a company with extensive experience in historic preservation and relocating large, historic structures. The work itself is being carried out by a skilled team of home movers. This is a fascinating and important part of the project, and we are grateful to have such an experienced team working on it.
