  • Picard singing immediately made it clear how incredible a musical episode of this show would be.

I love how the crew goes crazy that Picard "buys" them drinks that A. Don't actually cost anything and B. aren't real alcoholic beverages anyway.

oh also the song picard sang in this episode was used to show how his singing created a bar fight in another tng edit lol.

The best group of TNG edits. I don’t know why, but replacing all of Mark Twain’s dialogue with all his random noises is the funniest thing ever.

Fun episode - extra marks from me because we get to see Patrick Stewart being silly + *four* different aliens in a single episode. And elaborate alien makeups, not just wrinkley foreheads. BTW is it me or did the alien abductors look kind of like Bruce Campbell? :-)
You're right, it did look a bit creepy when Picard went for Haro's throat. I'm assuming he was going to check her pulse?
The big mystery: was there a toilet in the holding cell or did everyone just hold it in until they returned to their homeworlds?

I’ve actually sat in a very similar chair to the one in the beginning. It’s actually pretty comfortable and I’d totally believe reading a book in one. Maybe not drinking anything because sitting up to drink every time might be a little hard.

a few years ago I was making parody edits of the show and in one of them I looped the footage of Picard "choking" that woman while laughing . I also had Picard himself eat Thol in the end and say he's a delicacy.
this was probably the episode with the most useful materials for edits. all the scenes with the fake Picard were used in multiple edits , making it look as if that was the real picard and he's always weird like that

Esoqq's world Chana sounds fascinating. A completely anarchist society, like Klingons dialed up to 11. How does that work? Did they achieve warp drive on their own or just club a visiting Vulcan over the head and steal their ship?

Patrick Stewart's rendition of "Heart of Oak" will forever be one of the great Trek moments. The goofiness behind the scene is so perfect for the context of the episode. I love it! 🤪

I’m just amazed you not only found a recording of that hymn and it actually matched Picard’s pitch. Or you pitch corrected the recording which is also fantastic. Really enjoying your videos!

    • @reverseangle
      @reverseangle  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

It was way more than pitch correction. The manipulation to line those tracks up took longer than the rest of the review combined, but I'm very happy with it.

Re 7:15, the crew didn't contact Starfleet because (see 1:40) Picard ordered radio silence.

1:05 checking pulse on carotid artery.
Common place to check a pulse.
Also why he's doing it with one hand as opposed to both hands, which is what most people use when actually choking people.

I'm pretty sure Chana is the same species that stabbed Picard through the heart during a fight over a game of Damjat when Picard was in his final year of Starfleet academy. I think that's why he knew the species so quickly. If, of course, he said the species was Nausican. I'm such a dork

Hoping you guys would catch it and not shown here but towards the end on the bridge when the aliens replace the fake Picard, they actually replace the wrong one. They appear where the real Picard was standing.

Huh, missed this episode earlier. I liked the concept for this one, however, Star Trek personnel get abducted more than people from the X-Files.
I thought of this one as a throw-away episode that was decently done, but as usual, it was quickly wrapped up at the end.

Definitely an oddball episode. I liked how it made Picard the laboratory rat, so to speak. The deductive reasoning the "Test subjects" were using was pretty decent at least too.
The hidden premise here that I picked up on was: You can study all you want about a species but, dammit, sometimes you just have to kidnap one of 'em to see how it all comes together in real life... lol

I've always found this episode oddly racist....against extraterrestrials. Here Picard and co. are, bragging about how great humans are, and all the alien species are some combination of stupid, arrogant, and violent. It's very gross.
