There were only 13 episodes of FIngerbobs ever made, but when I was a kid I seemed to watch 100 of them, and never any repeats. I musta been a real DIM child.
Can't believe I just clicked on this and remembered and sang every word to the intro and the Fingermouse song!....man..this is taking me back to a wonderful time!
Hahaha, you think they were working on a budget with this? I loved this show. Must have cost about a tenner to make, but it still beats anything on kids TV today.
I haven't seen this since the 70s but as the opening music started, from somewhere in the back of my brain, I remembered every word to the theme tune!! I used to love this as a kid. I would always pester my mum to help me make my own version of fingermouse. I loved all the puppets in this show with the exception of the scampi children - too annoying. I think the tortoise was called Flash.
I remember being a little frightened of Yoffi's beard when I was watching this as a 3 year old, and the slightly spooky theme tune. But it was a wonderful show once I got used to it!
You wouldn't hear "guts and verve" in a kids tv song these days. Rentaghost and Barnaby Bear were a couple of others with bizarrely complex theme tune lyrics for the target audience. Or perhaps kids were just brighter in those days!
i used to always think i was remembering the prog fingermouse which was apparantly later, but now seeing this and hearing the "fingermouse" song its actually this i remember! plus i remember the grey glove and the other animals. wow, brings back so many memories from being a wee tot :) thank you!!
Watching this kind of makes me sad. I was born in the us and as a kid I loved watching tv shows like this (my fav being kipper) not having the opportunity to watch these at the time makes me feel like I missed out on a peice of that era
This show was a bit before my time, but it seems pretty cool. It's quite surreal and 'New Age-y', quite unlike the Jolly Hockeysticks, very 'proper' Blue Peter. Jass.
Yoffy drowned Fingermouse after the series finished. He actually mentioned this in a programme about Kids TV around 10 years ago. The later Fingermouse in the 1980s series looked different to the original - he had a pink tip on his nose.
I remember watching this in England around 1981. I loved it. Fred Rogers used to say "for $6,000 an episode we can entertain the kids with a drama about getting a haircut, using puppets, but for $30,000, we can give kids half an hour of animated bombardment and try to entertain them with gunfire, explosions, flashing lights, and bopping on the head."
At last! I have been asking people if they remember fingerbobs and they all thought i was mad....they said you must mean Fingermouse....which of course it is....except the title is fingerbobs...nice...i've just proved i wasn't mad after all ;)
i remember as a child i was completely devestated when my father told me that finger mouse was nothing more than a mere peice of cardboard on the end of yoffi's finger. evil old sod...he used to reckon rupert bear was a drug dealer.
I remember thinking even as a child that the mouse would be more anatomically correct if the head were on his middle finger. And I am now a published evolutionary biologist. OK that last bit isn't true but I have read the works of Richard Dawkins. Well I've thought about reading them. OK I'm going to bad :(
@TheMightyHartley I think I asked my grandad once and he told me it was a fish! I was thinking, "Doesn't look like a fish..." Guess he was half right, haha!
HAHAHAHA I just read that while the film was still rolling, he was so sick of making the episodes he destroyed the puppets on the spot. Does anyone have the video of it ?
yoffi bends another and a tortoise head peeps out. I know the bloody feeling! Now, I heard some disturbing rumours about this bloke getting into trouble for fingeringbobs, if you take my meaning. I don't believe it of course - just look at his honest face.
That's a bit harsh. In fact, take it from an amateur historian of Russia, Rick Jones is nothing like Rasputin. As a kid, I thought he was a Canadian Arab.
I take it the rumour he was a nonce was just a nasty urban myth? Although "fingerbobs"... would have been a little bit hilarious if true, at least were it not for some kids actually getting fingerbobbed.
Amazing. I'd forgotten all about this, but I remember it all now, characters, songs & all. Like it was yesterday.
A very sad day for the world of glove puppetry. Rick was a genius and master of his art who was way ahead of his time. RIP my friend
I just heard about his sad passing. I loved Fingerbobs. I agree with you Stan, he was such a genius.

My lord how this makes me happy and sad. Happier times, more gentle and less technology but more happiness.
Was 15 when this was out in the mid seventies and way too old to be watching it....still loved it though lol
Can't believe I just clicked on this and remembered and sang every word to the intro and the Fingermouse song!....man..this is taking me back to a wonderful time!
I like drawing on things too. It's amazing what yoffy can do with his hands, some bits and peaces and lots of imagine.
Yoffy looks blazed as hell.
Yoffy can imagine anything and used so little to achieve so much all with a little help from his friends...
yea man yoffi rocks he's so cool lol Brings back so many happy childhood memories aah back in the day !
Ahh, thanks for posting this, grew up watching this. Gentler days when kids were kids and didn't feel the need to beat people up or stab each other
bring back fingerbobs and get rid of computer animation i love this :D
CGIs suck.
Brilliant - it's true that the words of the song just come flooding back!
Hahaha, you think they were working on a budget with this? I loved this show. Must have cost about a tenner to make, but it still beats anything on kids TV today.
Long Live Banana Splits and the Flashing Blade - that was great kids programs
The presenter was my primary school teacher's son. She was ever so proud of him and was always telling us about him.
I used to love this when I was 5. They just don't make classic kids TV like this any more, it's all that Teletubbies/Tweenies/Octonauts shite.
im five yrs old all over again,if only i could turn back time and live it all again!!
The music makes me think of the original 'The Wicker Man' movie for some reason.
I haven't seen this for about thirty years.
Thank you... :-)
Those were the days when children didn't need to be bombarded with technology to making learning entertaining

Then you can help fix today's kid's TV! If you're watching this, you obviously know what good shows are. :)
A scampi??? haha A tortoise head peeps out! Must have been funny recording that song. Great memories of the 70's/80's.
I wish Yoffy was my daddy he seems so nice calm and loving !
this reminds me of my childhood...things so diffrent then
I am sure this guy used to take a spliff between takes - man he was soooo chilled.
Excellent show non the less.

If ever I was off school ill, it was this and a bottle of Lucozade that got me through!
i used to always think i was remembering the prog fingermouse which was apparantly later, but now seeing this and hearing the "fingermouse" song its actually this i remember! plus i remember the grey glove and the other animals. wow, brings back so many memories from being a wee tot :) thank you!!
I'm guessing all the show's budget went towards LSD.
Yuffy looks like Cat Stevens.
Watching this kind of makes me sad. I was born in the us and as a kid I loved watching tv shows like this (my fav being kipper) not having the opportunity to watch these at the time makes me feel like I missed out on a peice of that era
I know how you feel
This show was a bit before my time, but it seems pretty cool. It's quite surreal and 'New Age-y', quite unlike the Jolly Hockeysticks, very 'proper' Blue Peter.
Jass.
The pace is so relaxed. No wonder today's kids have low attention spans.
Yoffy drowned Fingermouse after the series finished. He actually mentioned this in a programme about Kids TV around 10 years ago.
The later Fingermouse in the 1980s series looked different to the original - he had a pink tip on his nose.
Nice memories.
Lunchtime childrens programmes.
1pm
Those of a certain age will know
just the job .. nearly wet me drawers .. heeheeheehaha innocent laughterhahaha - ooh stop it .. that's an interesting rock .. who needs drugs ;-))))))
This is kinda creepy. Yet I watch and can't turn away.
I remember watching this in England around 1981. I loved it.

This is completely adorable.
Fingermouse can't get it up and no-one will help him unload. 70s kid's TV: innuendo-a-rama
I've got a dvd of this!
RIP Rick 'Yoffy' Jones
I know that. His name is Rick Jones- before Fingerbobs he presented Playschool.
He was in the the country rock band Meal Tickets
The makers of kids programs today don't take the same drugs as the makers of these early 70's (?) programs!
OMG,...
I'M 42, and remember Finger mouse like yesterday!!
Did you record any Mr Men back in the day?
Only downside: when Fingermouse etc are away from "Yoffy", you can still see his pullover cuffs lol
There would have been tens of each of the characters.
its the Chairman of the fed ben bernanke
I just loved this program. You can almost believe finger-mouse is real......lol
At last! I have been asking people if they remember fingerbobs and they all thought i was mad....they said you must mean Fingermouse....which of course it is....except the title is fingerbobs...nice...i've just proved i wasn't mad after all ;)
incredibly creepy in a strange way.. as was much kids tv in the 70s
i remember as a child i was completely devestated when my father told me that finger mouse was nothing more than a mere peice of cardboard on the end of yoffi's finger. evil old sod...he used to reckon rupert bear was a drug dealer.
You're very welcome . . .
It is often said that the truth hurts . . . I guess they're right.
Ah, that famous body swerve.
great kids tv...mouse so funny...
I remember thinking even as a child that the mouse would be more anatomically correct if the head were on his middle finger. And I am now a published evolutionary biologist. OK that last bit isn't true but I have read the works of Richard Dawkins. Well I've thought about reading them. OK I'm going to bad :(
I heard Yoffi got rheumatism in his index finger and had to quit.
@TheMightyHartley I think I asked my grandad once and he told me it was a fish! I was thinking, "Doesn't look like a fish..." Guess he was half right, haha!
Does anyone else ever remember not knowing what the shrimp was when they were little? :o
I heard that Yoffi was so sick of making the show by the end that he destroyed all the puppets.
Daddy daddy my daddy I'll be right round! lol
Ah, awkward, given that I work in kid's TV....
With the fantastic Rick Jones. Much better than "Fingermouse", the 80's remake with Playschool's Iain Lauchlan.
wait, he goes to the seaside, he has a friend who is a scampi, and doesn't pay a visit?
Or his mate the seagull.
The stones were great!
This must have cost peanuts to make.
Yoffi needs the toilet
oh his arse is bare
Yoffis really bursting
a turtlehead is out.
He used to be in the group 'Meal Ticket'.
HAHAHAHA I just read that while the film was still rolling, he was so sick of making the episodes he destroyed the puppets on the spot. Does anyone have the video of it ?
awwww poor finger mouse can't get it up
He is scarey to this day.
Nothing scary about him dude. He looks like the alchemist that played oscillator for Hawkwind. And that's fuckin' cool.
Hey! I'm a kid's TV producer and have a lot of imagination ta. It's just hard to get things commissioned
That cat that Finger mouse gets past is useless.
The C.G.I Is So Life Like!
Because Fingermouse is a Fingerbob. :-)
Remember seeing a vid where Rick Jones aka "Yoffy" actually refered to the puppets as Vagina's
Latin for sheath.
"Fingerbob": to hurt ones finger:ie: "did you hurt your finger bob?". Hope this helps!!!
yoffi bends another and a tortoise head peeps out. I know the bloody feeling!
Now, I heard some disturbing rumours about this bloke getting into trouble for fingeringbobs, if you take my meaning. I don't believe it of course - just look at his honest face.
did he sing the theme to Dominic Hide? that would be weird.
@joolspirog
People sure were friendlier back then!
Is Yoffi Usamma Bin Laden?
(maybe his dad actually?)
That's a bit harsh. In fact, take it from an amateur historian of Russia, Rick Jones is nothing like Rasputin. As a kid, I thought he was a Canadian Arab.
1:12 Does anyone else hear Neil Hannon (Divine Comedy)?
Andy Gait NO
this is pretty awesome
COOL
Takes me back
Thanks for insulting my choice of career and the work I do. Much appreciated.
what a funny name.. Yuffy?
That's beast
@ShivuTheWolf Ha ha, yep! Didn't have a clue what it was either!
A word of advice - be very very careful with what you say
so the reason it was called fingerbobs is because.... oh i get it !
Hands down Awesome kids TV
Peace*
This was a favourite
I take it the rumour he was a nonce was just a nasty urban myth? Although "fingerbobs"... would have been a little bit hilarious if true, at least were it not for some kids actually getting fingerbobbed.
Luckily kids seem to enjoy my work, and as they're the audience I aim for I'll treat your comment with the attention it deserves i.e. none
