I am having trouble potty training my 2 month old miniature schnauzer. I take him out every 30-40 minutes and we will be outside for a good 20-30 minutes and as soon as we go back inside my home he will pee and poop wherever, as discipline I show him where he went potty at and tell him "bad puppy, you need to go outside" and put him inside his 19 in dog carrier for about 10-20 mins. Please answer with advice with how to train him since I have 3 little ones in my household. Thank you -Anna
Hello! So sorry to hear you are having issues. Potty training can be tricky. I can only do simple answers here as it requires me to find out more specific information on what’s going on to help problem solve an issue but I can make a couple suggestions. First, if you catch the puppy AFTER the fact there is no need to discipline. If you catch him IN the act that is different, but 3 seconds afterwards is too late. Instead be proactive. If you know he is going to potty right after you bring him in, clip a leash on him and have him connected to you so he can’t sneak off and potty. Then go out again a little bit later and try again. Their desire to be outside can also change with the weather. If it is cold or rainy outside they often won’t want to stay outside long enough to go so they will save it until they come in. You can use his kennel to help set his routine as long as he isn’t in it all day. Putting him in the kennel after he potties does not help set that routine. Instead wait until after he has gone potty, 20 minutes later put him in the kennel for 10 minutes (as long as he doesn’t start using his kennel to potty) then go outside and try. Set a good solid routine he can count on and stay one step ahead of him. Good luck!
Anna Ramirez you are outside for too long. After they go potty it’s back in the house. Play with him watch him closely. Hope this helps.

How many commands can be introduced at the first session to start of with??
They way we train the pups you can start with several right off. We usually start with 3 or 4. The pups are smart and learn how to differentiate between the commands within a couple weeks but still rely on exaggerated hand signals and positive rewards for weeks after that. So it’s a process but you can incorporate multiple commands at once.

Question 2; Gigi is learning to potty in a pee pad. After she wakes up I immediately take her to the pad and say “Gigi go potty” but she lays down instead. So I figured maybe she needs to walk a little bit before going potty and when she squats i pick her up immediately and take her to the pad and repeat the phrase but again she lays down instead. She has had counted accomplishments. What can I do to re enforce this behavior.
OR should I start off with out door potty training my only problem with that is that it’s been raining a lot in Dallas and winters get too cold for our door potty break
