Megumi Mizutani, who did a lot of the key art and characters for LGPE, also did the redesigns for the gym leaders for ORAS, the Battle Chatelaine ladies of XY, and eight of the Mikus trainer types of Project Voltage.
A redesigned Cyrus would be interesting since I've only seen one redesign that I feel actually works. Most attempts are too complicated but the simplicity of his Diamond and Pearl Adventure look really captures what I feel should have been his design from the getgo, and all they did was make his coat longer. It gives him a sleeker look that's at once more intimidating and more sci fi.
Agatha all along just made me go back into time when I used to watch Wanda Vision theories during lockdown, I still want to think that time to present is just a bad dream, lost so much progress in real life
I really love all of the Let’s Go redesigns, especially Agatha and Lance. For the same reasons you gave, Agatha went from a character I could barely remember existed to now being my favorite ghost specialist. As for Lance, I’ve never been that big a fan of his jumpsuit, but his og look has way too much red and leather for my liking; his Let’s Go design fixes all that by toning back the amount of red, introducing navy to the color pallet, and making his pants denim. Also, I never realized till now that Brock’s jacket has a hood in Let’s Go, I love that! On a side note, something I’ve always wanted to see but I know is likely impossible now, is some kind of official art (be it a render or tcg card art) of Blue with his hair down as seen in his pre-champion battle sprites from Red & Blue. I always thought it was a cool look and a neat little detail of how he spiked his hair (or at least made it spikier than it already was) once he became champion.
Although a bit late, I really love the color switches they made. It sorta secretly tells you that this is an alternative universe than the past Kanto games
I never forgot Agatha. Her LGPE design is so good - a shame it wasn't used in Masters EX. Only thing I'd change on it is bringing back the Poké Ball on top of her cane, because that was a creative design choice. Too bad GAME FREAK forgot about her and Lorelei in the Johto games - they could just be chilling at places in Kanto and be able to battle you. Polished Crystal and Lunatic Crystal gave us battles against them, which was epic.
LGPE are the nicest looking mainline games on Switch and you can't change my mind on that. Between the gorgeous stylized art, the character designs, and the cutscene animations, I HATE that we've never seen this come back. This, in my opinion, is the perfect art direction for Pokemon. I'm a fan of colour!
Misty's lgpe design is perfection. The sportsy look, the dynamic pose and the sassy expression all combine to make her personality really shine through. Plus Misty has a tendency of looking great in whatever she wears, I won't even try to deny my bias here
I like the changes to Agatha's face in particular. Before she just straight up has Giovanni's face and it's always been extremely weird imo. The changes to her eye shape, adding the little wrinkles and the wide grin make her look a lot more like her own character and she has a mischievous aura to her that was lacking before.
Completely obsessed with Lance so I have a fun fact about his design here: The symbol on his shirt is meant to resemble a Gyarados. He has the same symbol on emblems on his New Years outfit in Masters where he wears a kimono and is paired up with his Gyarados.
And here's the annoying comment where I mention that his outfit between FRLG and HGSS is different, because in the latter it's not actually a jumpsuit. It's actually a romper kinda with long sleeves, just his pants are the same color blue. You can see it best in his new Arc Suit design in Masters rn.
Interesting Trivia: When Pokemon Masters was initially released, Misty is the only character that wore her LGPE design, which sparks a lot of discussion that Lets Go will be usually be featured in PMEX. Many years later, we did have Elaine and Chase! Now where is the forgettable rival? 😂
not only do they look like the manga, but they also look like the proportions from early pokemon art in general. Everyones got this stockier look overall and it's nice. ORAS's art style (just the characters proportions, really) used to bother me, but i kinda really prefer something stylized compared to more normal-ish human proportions they go for in the newer games.
First time I’ve seen Blaine using the quiz outfit as his gimmick which is awesome. The characters losing purple pants and overall switching up outfit colors are great.
7:59 Actually. I like the boots more since it gives more of a witchy vibes to her. Witches wear boots, and some witches commune with spirits and craft magic potions. A witch for a ghost/poison type elite four member makes it all the more appealing
I never notice that swapping of the shirt and pants Blaine mustache not being real reminds me of the unused line in SA2 "Did you know the doctor's mustache is fake"? Although that is likely referring to the Chao that had one based on the Japanese line Let's Go is a game I can't help but feel sorry for. While not the best game, I enjoyed it but I constantly feel like its existence to me is just "Oh yeah that exists". For a while I thought it took place in between the events of the Kanto games and the Johto games which I thought was a good idea and I still stand by that. Yeah Team Rocket doing the exact same thing should have tipped me off, but in my defense I didn't play them till after SWSH Luckily Masters seems to be taking that path.
Lance, Koga, and Agatha are probably my favorites. It's probably not but I've always headcanonned that the design on Lance's shirt is the Rising badge from Blackthorn.
2:40 HGSS Misty is still the peak of Misty designs for me. She's more grown up, she has slip on sandals to make it easier to remove her shoes to swim and her jacket is bad ass! I loved that in the farewell season of the anime they gave the young Misty her older game counterpart's jacket. If we get another Johto remake, I just really hope they mess with that design too much. HGSS Misty is the best Misty.
Lgpe are not bad at all, the problem is that no one asked for them, so when you look at the future games they fell like "wasted" work that could've been put on swsh for example
The play style was highly restrictive, preventing people with mobility issues from being able to get really good. The plot was nonsense. So we're playing first gen but the plot is happening again?
