  • Some shoes are trendy and fashionable but they're plain UGLY! It doesn't matter if you wearing the most beautiful dress if you're wearing ugly shoes you outfit won't look elegant because you can never walk gracefully in heavy and clompy, ugly shoes.

      True true! Years of pointy heels and now in my later years my feet are a wreck and sandals are a distant memory. I was glamorous in my youth .. but the price I paid is definitely not worth it. Now shoes are so hard to find to fit my horrible feet. Sigh… what price beauty?

    I agree 100%. The high-heeled clogs made me roar with laughter. As a Dutchwoman I can tell you that clogs were designed for use in marshes and farmlands! But here's my question: what does the elegant woman with arthritis wear?

  • @brigittebenquet9055
    @brigittebenquet9055 2 ปีที่แล้ว +51

    Having worn pointy heeled shoes for too many years - they were the finest, however they still resulted in my disforming my toes, I wholeheartedly applaud what I consider to be the “ liberation of the feet”. Why sacrifice health to beauty when we can have both? There are many aspects of the new shoes aesthetic that I love, good common sense is one of them.

    I agree 100% with the shoes/sandals you chose to cover. Every time I see the Birkenstock style sandal, it makes me think of Fred Flintstone, and he didn’t wear sandals, he just had big feet. And that’s what that style does to anyone who wears them. Question? Why do women wear thick-soled boots with a beautiful outfit? I’ll never know. You may have guessed, you really hit a chord with me. Thanks for covering these ugly shoes and sandals.

    • @Ilovechicpeas

      Maybe people like myself with arthritis of the feet who can’t put pressure on their big toe? We have to wear rigid soles that don’t bend and shoes with a wide toe box. Not attractive but no option.

    To me, clothes, shoes and accessories are all about play, not about being "classy", sophisticated, etc., unless of course that is your priority, and that's fine too. My adult daughter is very "classical" in her look, it works for her. I used to be, but I'm not anymore, as it doesn't work well on me. I like to "break" an outfit with something totally unexpected, knocking the whole thing a bit off kilter. That's the "play" part for me. 😊

    Yes, the ugly clunky shoes are not elegant and pretty. But, I live in a city amd we have to walk. Sometimes 10 miles a day. None of the stylish shoes have enough support for my lifestyle. Loafers come close but my feet are narrow and I walk right out of them. What to do?

    Yes, these shoes look ugly. But some of them have soles or padding in them to make them feel as though you are walking on pillows. Some people need the support of thick straps to hold the shoe on their feet.
    Others have foot issues that prevent them from wearing the elegant shoes we would all love to have.
    I cannot wear slip ons, slides or loafers. No matter what, they fall off my feet. I wear what is comfortable for me to wear and walk in. If they look ugly, there are more important things in life than ugly shoes. Anyway, I can look elegant from the ankles up. Lol.

    I have some very fine looking wedges that are beautiful with longer dresses. Having spent my youth in 4” stilettos, my ankles and toes are now distorted to the point I need an operation. I now require comfort and balance instead of the classic elegance of a high heel.
    I’m a classic dresser and always complemented on what I put together, so I think it’s just about finding a good balance, I also think it depends on what type of woman you are. Confidence is everything, no matter what you wear.

    With the exception of the 'fisherman sandal' I totally agree with you about the others as have a pair of the former (cognac in color and have a good gripping sole) as might wear them for protection of my toes on certain terrains as well in a warm climate, where otherwise one might choose sneakers/trainers which do not appeal to me. On that note however, slip on sandals with a low block or kitten heel and single vamp strap IMO are not only that unstable to walk in but can be very noisy on rigid surfaces with their flap-flap-flap-flap..... 😊.

    I'm not a fan of most of these shoes personally but I do love a platform. I love comfortable height as someone only 5 feet. I accept they might look like cinder blocks but I have come to terms with that.

    Yeah! Someone is finally speaking the truth about ugly shoes!!! It's like the Emperor's new clothes -- finally someone has the courage to say he is naked!! Graceful and elegant still wins in my book. Thank you for standing up for elegance!!!!

    Great video Gemma! Firstly your opinions matter. We tune in and have the luxury of taking what we want from your content🥰 Secondly, I struggle every summer with shoes. With all my dance training,I need something around my ankle or I fall off the darn shoe. I like a sling back or a nice driving loafer with a thin sole.

    Totally agree. Some shoes might be fashionable but then I don’t really understand WHY because they are so ugly !! Don’t they see that and just believe they should buy because some company says they are trendy?

    I liked to wear chunky boots (like the brand "Dockers") in my 20s, especially in fall/winter ... now I'm 50 and totally agree with your perception and opinion 👍- and I wonder how I was able to walk around all day in those heavy pieces?! 😉😄
    Sunny regards 🌞

    After the pandemic 😷 MANY women & men, want to continue to have comfort in all wardrobe staples. I like the vast opportunities in the new fashions. We all know that “Elegance” will never go out of style & I agree about the super clunky look - though I actually do like most of the shoes you mentioned. 😂
    Lest not forget that some people were/ are stuck at home & understand that they don’t want to wear slippers all day, anymore!

    I have a pair of clogs that I bought about 10 years ago that are very comfortable, but they do have a small "lip" on the heel that helps keep them in place. So, maybe they are more like mules, but they definitely look like clogs.

    These aren’t just ugly, they’re HIDEOUS!! I wish people would consider what looks good rather than follow the latest trends. That has little to do with having actual style. Love your videos!!

    I actually like all of these types of shoes except the clogs. I hv petite ankles but because im petite with tiny feet i think i pull them off as opposed to a taller lady with long thin legs.

    I love the chunky look. Unfortunately I’m too old to pull it off. But I think the older we get the harder it is to walk in the elegant shoes. Everything gives me blisters. I’m always searching for comfortable shoes. So I welcome ugly shoes if they are comfortable and trendy.

    • @estoypoopin3937
      @estoypoopin3937 ปีที่แล้ว

      Giiiiiirl no!! You’re never too old!! Wear those chunky shoes, you’ll look bad ass!! My 63 year old mother in law has platforms and she *rocks* the hell out of them!
      And also in my personal opinion the “elegant shoes” only reveal your age.. the first ones she showed are basically slides with heels, barely different from crocs with heels if you ask me 👀💀

  • @halucca22
    @halucca22 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    IMHO the biggest issue with these shoes is the excessive platform sole.most of them would be fine if the soles were smaller. Personally I love the look of fisherman sandals, loafers, espadrilles and Birkies. I love seeing women look comfortable in shoes that won’t deform their feet, but also that don’t make them clomp.

    I agree with you 100%. I am in my 60s now and have hated ugly, big soled, clumsy looking shoes ever since I was old enough to care what was on my feet! My heart sinks at the start of every season when the fashion industry decides that these sorts of shoes or boots are what we should be wearing because it always comes down to the high street. Over the year’s I’ve become convinced that the fashion industry likes to make women look as ugly as possible! I have never followed trends and refuse to wear any of them and will hunt high and low to find daintier, more elegant shoes or else wear shoes I have bought some years ago that come from a ‘prettier flattering shoe time’. 🥰💜

      That’s a really interesting point about designers trying to make women look ugly. Is this a new subversive way to continue to control us…? I just watched A Very British Scandal with Claire Foy and reeled in horror at the power of men. Seems like they’re just getting more sneaky now.

    You are absolutely right! Yes, the beauty might be in the eye of the spectator, but it's just personal preference. Real beauty is always balance and harmony which these shoes certainly don't have.
