Sherlock is such a happy little puppy and so eager to please you. Such a clever little boy and I just love seeing the loving bond you both have for each other in all the videos you are posting. ❤
When I saw him ‘hurry up’ on the deck in an earlier video and you praised him for a good ‘hurry up’ I just knew you were going to correct this behavior later. I like seeing how you incrementally train him on important habits. He was adorable coming in the doggie door.
Sherlock gives me extreme puppy fever!! We're waiting a little while to get a Cavalier so our kids can be a little older. But every new video featuring this good boy makes it harder to wait!
He’s a smart boy as well as being cute! This speech pathologist appreciates the use of key phrases for training, never thought of using Cheerios - I should’ve - their great for use with human babies too! Low sugar, fat free, etc 😊
Training--my favorite topic!! Puppies can (and should) start learning manners (like going to the bathroom outside, walking nicely on a leash, going into a crate, sit, etc.) when they are very young--as young as 6 to 8 weeks of age. My one word about what I saw Charlie doing is that some dogs (obviously not all--Sherlock had absolutely no problem), if you talk to the puppy while they're peeing or pooping outside, that may interrupt them and make them come running toward you. So if your puppy (or adult dog) does that, just wait until after they've finished peeing or pooping to tell them how wonderful they are. If you wish to provide them a treat after they are finished, by all means do so. Just make sure they actually "go" before giving up the treat (some will "assume the position" but not actually do anything and then come running for their treat!!). But Sherlock had no problems, so it's perfectly grand to tell him how great he is while he's still going. Remember, if you're dealing with a young puppy, they have the attention span of a gnat, so any and all training sessions should be quite short (depending on the puppy and the age, as short as a minute) and you can intersperse play between "lessons". All training should be done using positive methods (as Charlie is doing here). There's NEVER any need to use "punishment" (like choke chains, prong collars, electric collars, etc.).

I wish we shared the same weather in uk as you have over there!
I understand - I've experienced the UK weather a few times, and it's always a crapshoot as to what to expect.
