  • Part 1 (day 1and 2) of our 17 day 2017 tour of Spain. The ferry crossing and Santander to Logrono.
This part is largely a look around the Santander ferry. it was a 19 hour crossing from Plymouth and then the back roads to our first night in Logrono

What I love about this clip is watching the driving. It is about selecting the right line through the corners, the right gear to be in and the right amount of power to apply to the rear wheel. Great riding and wonderful to watch. I'd love to be able to do this. Thank you for posting.

Settling back to binge on your tour videos during Lockdown. I was booked to go on the Rosslare to Bilbao ferry on 20th May 2020, don't see it happening somehow. Maybe your series will cheer me up!

How do you film your travels .... where do you place the camera and what is the brand?

Hi, it is a gopro 4 silver, with an external mic on a long cable so the mic can be hidden out of the wind. This is important as wind noise is awful. This is a video on camera placement. Hope this helps th-cam.com/video/MUCluaqZMdc/w-d-xo.html

No, I was required to have it on all of my European trips but at no point have I ever been asked about documents or even waited at a border. In my experience bikes get waved through ahead of everyone else without delay.

Doesn't look as though there are many people on board the ferry, plenty of bikes though

I think we were in one of the quieter bars. It was a great ferry crossing though: I recommend it.

ilikeitwhenitssunny - I can understand not sporting gear in the excessive heat however an off even at a fairly slow speed would be catastrophic - for the sake of some summer protective clothing - and yes H-D do offer such attire - you would end up hospitalised with serious personal injury - I mean look at the distress your mate was in when he accidentally swallowed a wasp - consider the scenario if the flesh on your hands was ground to the bone - the vacation totally ruined - possibly unable to ride again - and the personal distress caused to your friends and family - I truly enjoyed perusing your video however I was always wary when I witnessed you riding without the appropriate gear

Thank you for the concern. I am aware of the risk and the consequences, but it still is personal choice. I wear Kevlar clothing when it’s damp, I’m commuting or on a sports bike. The style of touring riding we do, on dry hot sticky tarmac (asphalt or whatever it is called in which ever country you live) I am willing to ride in a tshirt. It increases the risk, but not as much as it increased my enjoyment of the ride. There are more dangerous sports that people do and they are aware of and happy with the risks. There are also safer forms of transport (how about a nice Volvo estate?). I have made my choices and it really isn’t any of anyone’s business what I choose to do. That said I appreciate that you mean well.
