Hi Brad, Nice review, I’ve been using this recently & I really like how quickly you can dial in a decent sound & it’s fairly low cpu usage which is cool , I’m liking it a lot especially the reverb !!
Only used the trial for an hour or so but early impressions are very positive. Very intuitive and with some tweaking you can get very close to replicating a 5 plugin chain. The verb sounds great but no ducking option as far as I can tell so I'd be inclined to use separate FX on a send. Definitely worth checking out.
I agree with you, I tried The Spirit but is a hit or miss...works only for Very Processed Modern Vocal Sounds...it is very specific and really needs a Mid Section. but you can put an EQ before or after
Bro...I freaking love your channel. You taught me allot. Your my Yoda to this star wars of music. Your vocal chains are off the hook. Thank you for these jems. But your vocal chain was way better than the cradle spirit in my opinion. It has more life than the spirit
great review and shared every sentiment. I swear our faces were making the same reaction the whole video haha. Very much pop and rap vocal focused and does sound damn good for that purpose.
In my opinion, I think it needs a notch feature in the low mids; reducing the boxiness for male and low female vocals. Lous Bell may consider that in his upgrade of this plugin. Other than that it sounds great.
@@RadiumRecordsHollywood It's going great! I'm sure itcan used as part of a vocal chain but for me its mainly a tool now to mix rough ideas quickly now so it's awesome!
I like the chain, but it seems like it's pretty limited in the features. This chain could easily be built using sends to other plugins, and then you have more control imo
So, based on the vocal I’m hearing, the biggest issues I’m catching are a lack of word intelligibility & a need for more de-essing. The biggest improvement from the Cradle Audio was when you engaged the vocal rider. I think the vocal needs automation to ride it and make the phrases intelligible. Compression can negatively affect it and raise “S”s. And the “S”s in the vocal are kinda hot overall. So my vote for a processing chain is gonna be the cradle, simply for the functional vocal rider. It was impressive to hear it bring up the ends of the phrases. That’s the type of automation I’d recommend doing any way. Everything else about it is niche and may not always work for the genre and vibe. You mentioned you like your chain more (which you should) cuz you know what you want it to sound like. If you only engaged the rider or rode the automation by hand, and added to ur existing chain, it will probably take that vocal up a level.
Love this comment and agree fully! The vocal rider is amazing on this plugin, during this review it was my first time even opening it. Now that I’ve spent some time with it, it’s an incredible tool and very efficient
Why do you have the reverb on the vocal channel rather than on a bus with a send from the vocal channel? Just curious about your thought process on this aspect of workflow.
This is an "all in one" vocal chain plugin... The reverb is built in and you can blend in the wet/ dry mix with the knob... If you wanted to, you could put it on an aux and go 100% on the verb and just send whatever you want to it. It's all up to you!
I’m have no idea what “warmth” means and everyone has their own definition, plus I closed my eyes when listening to the A/B, but I’d say your chain had more low/mids with more pronounced trainsients whereas the Spirit was brighter with a bit more mid/highs and reverb. Comes down to preference.
On a normal hi-fi system you don't hear much difference. In my studio cradle stuff always sounds artificial. I've tried all kinds of mastering tools, but still Ozon (11) sounds the most clean, professional, wide etc...
All I can say that you wanted to make the cradle sound like your chain, because is what you have in your head... and if you would use other plugins you would make it sound very close to your chain .... the cradle sounded way more processed and seems not so flexible..... so may be a one cool trick pony ...
I’ve tried for half a year to try to use this plugin. I find it too harsh on every level - compression way too intense, reverb is thin and airy - not rich or subtle. The rider loves to catch breaths and crank them up so you hear them way too much. It just never worked for me but I appreciate the work that went into it - maybe best if you’re going for hyper pop modern vocals? Frankly, I hate it. 🤷♂️

You gave a real analysis of this plugin. I felt the same way you did about your vocal chain compared to it when you A/B it. Great job!

Vocal rider and a bit more reverb is definitely helping…

I think the rider is the best feature it has, feels way more natural than vocal rider. Any other suggestions for leveling vocals besides manually?
I typically use clip gain and automation to make sure everything is even... Usually it's the Esses and plosives that I ride down.

this voice of this tracks sounds phased from the beginning ... changes A-B are never played in solo mode.. This must be another lemon yoke ... 🍋
I think Cradle is more "urban" orientated so the track you chose to test this ( even tho it's real cool) is not the best choice.

It might be an award winning vocal chain but it won’t help anyone get a good vocal if they can’t sing.
