Great review! I like a standard power switch. The PFFB was a welcome surprise.
Same here!
Hooray for new reviews
You know it!
Great coverage of the important points
How it sounds compared to fosi za3 and A07max?
Another great vid Matt, so weird on that filter, sub/sat systems have been around for decades now which is why I’m surprised that almost none of these amps have the right format for the sub out, yet, but hopefully with your direct input to them we’ll get there real soon, thanks again!
Guessing this sounds like other TPA 3255 chip amps…did you compare to WiiM amp?
Great info Matt. Keep it up!
Thanks for watching!
Not interested in the amp. But my wife got me a similar tool for Christmas. It’s proved to be really useful. Wish my case held the bits like this one.
Hey! The xcool is really, errr, cool. Another fab review. This amp looks to be a steady contender. Nice flexibility. Thanks Matt! 🙃
Hey Tony, how’s it going! I surprisingly find my self using that screwdriver set more often than I thought I would for amp/DAC disassembly.
Hi Matt I'm a NEW sub, Great reviews and Honest feedback for all. Really enjoy your laidback reviews. I couldn't find the Aiyima A70 on Amazon. Keep up the Good work.
From what I gather they sold out and are having some delays getting it back in stock. Thanks for the sub!
man it’s so close just some aesthetic issues that really cheapen it’s looks, and the filter issues. so close!
It's all about the journey...Ha
Cool little amp Matt. Maybe some day you will have to do a tier video of all of your amps.
I really should
And ABX test them for us!
Why can't they get this right?
These chi fi companies are so frustrating
I did pass along my thoughts on the filters to their team, they were really receptive of the info. This amp is actually a pretty good buy, I really do like it but it could be so much more with a couple changes.
Yep .... th-cam.com/video/ox-NkyEFTmo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=jF8U1Ww4MlhGjKz8
Isn't that filter a high pass filter? On their site they describe it as 20Hz~150Hz/600Hz.
It’s only applied to the sub output and selectable between 150-600.
no it’s low pass which is odd as subs have that often
any ideas why this one has only like two reviewers on it? i think it’s been out for a bit now
I noticed the same, from what I gather they ran into some delays/late revisions right before getting these out. They seem to have just recently started getting into buyers hands.
@@MattCoykendall1 oh ok. thanks fir the reply! ill consider reading the owners manual ps haha
think i’ll ask around: bad idea to turn it sideways and put some feet on one of the sides? ventilation needs vertical escape so might be cool but i knoW; heat sink isn’t oriented in that way. could measure the temp trying both ways
Actually the case is the heat sink. There are vent holes in the bottom that allow air in, so the airflow is up and out the sides. Your best cooling improvement on this case will likely be to remove those silly orange panels from the sides.
@@Douglas_Blake_579 indeed i will def be removing! should arive on tues day :)
It looks to have larger (standard?) size speaker binding posts?
Please say what PFFB is?
Hey Neil! They did put full size staggered binding posts on this one.
@@MattCoykendall1 You mention this farther into the video.
I edited my post to ask what PFFB is?
PFFB is the Post Filter Feedback. Basically it decreases distortion and prevents a change in the frequency response based on the impedance load of a speaker. The whole topic gets overblown at times but its still certainly an advancement in these budget amps.
@@MattCoykendall1 Okay, thanks!
Hi Neil ... good to see you posting here!
To add to what Matt correctly told you ... they are taking the actual speaker output and feeding it back to the input chips to even out the frequency response of the output filters. It's better on paper but not to my ears... Experimenting with it per TI's design, I can't hear any difference other than a small drop in gain when it's hooked up or disconnected.
As Matt points out, it's another audiophile "tempest in a teacup" issue.
Can you check please this amp with 48v 10a power supply?
I did use it with a 48v 10amp from one of their competitors as well, no issues at all, sounded great.
Thanks, comparing it to Aiyma a07 max, it seems that the max is stronger. Am I right?
@@uribar-ner5055
It's the same power amp chip -- TPA3255 -- that determines the output. They should be equally capable.
Memo to Aiyima ... Get the @$#^#@#$ on-off switch off the volume control!!
Seriously ... just put a push on-push off button on the front panel.
As long as the power button isn’t behind it I can live but I get your point here. At least we get a trigger, thats welcomed!
they do have one w that description actually
@@chinmeysway
Yes ... The A08, which is not available in Canada.
I'm still happy with my A07, which is one of the best TPA3255 amplifiers made.
no lets tell them to do a switch, a good switch and in the BACK
@@chinmeysway
A proper switch, yes.
But in the back? Seems to me that would be seriously inconvenient if the thing is sitting in a system cabinet.
Not impressed. In spite of its relatively massive height, severe limitations on replacement with taller Op amps. Subwoofer goofing. Dual Function Power Knobs fail sooner or later. Deal breaker.
Excellent review though. Matt is so pleasant.
Thanks for introducing to the excellent Xcool Tool Set. Sorry Aiyima, I prefer to spend my Dollars on Xcool.
Is Aiyima and Fosi possibly ran by the same company? Or just a lot of copying!
Not that I am aware of
Yeah, totally uninterested in this POC
Blink dude, just blink
Nah
Putting two high end opamps for 80 moneys each into a 180 moneys cheap amplifier seems... questionable at best.
It might be a bold move but if it makes someone happy I’m good with that too.
There are plenty of less expensive chips you can use. Some are just a few pennies each.
For example the RC4558 chips will give you some improvement for about $0.30 each.
You can also try the MUSE chips which run in the $10 and 20 range...
