The Geshelli Dayzee with the big Sparkos SS2590 units is definitely *superb*! I listened to it with the stock TI OPA1655 for several months, using a 12V 50W linear power supply. With the stock op-amps all the qualities I mention below, are there - but upgrading them extends/expands all of these to what I consider to be ultimate. So many passages of music that I used to think were congested and overdriven - are sounding open and clear. Many recordings have 3D space and instruments - many sound almost like "new" music to me. Harmonies and counterpoint and discord and really subtle details - all come through - and I have to totally re-adjust my perception of the music. Bass is simply just right. The extension and weight and clarity is flawless, for all intents and purposes. Soundstage on good recordings is YUGE, and many are 3D - even some that I would never have thought had this quality. Clarity - is far more than "just" extended treble. It is a coherent whole - and it covers the entire spectrum, ideally. In my opinion, the Dayzee is balanced and neutral and also dynamic and clean. Nothing is out of place - and everything is in place. I have had all the Geshelli DACs that have AKM chips (except the very first JNOG), and they are all wonderful. For me the J2S with the AKM 4493 is the perfect entry point. I have not been able to listen to any of the Burson op-amps, but I did listen to about 7 or 8, and for me the Sparkos are my preference.
When you stated that "So many passages of music that I used to think were congested and overdriven", was that in regards to the TI op-amps in the Dayzee? And then it opened up after installing the Sparkos?
@@michaelwright1602 This is something the stock Dayzee does very well - and then after upgrading, it is *extremely* good at doing. Clarity and the ability to "untangle" dense /complex music - are a hallmark of the Dayzee, with both the stock TI OPA1655 op-amps; and to an even greater degree with the Sparkos SS2590 op-amps.

Great video 🤘. Love the details and real-world explanations. You're certainly on the top of my list for my next dac upgrade. (Not a fan of the clear front panels though. Just my 2 cents).
The op-amps are sensitive to electrostatic discharges (ESD) and appropriate handling precautions should be taken to avoid damage to the semiconductors. For example, the Texas Instruments (Burr Brown Audio) datasheet for the OPA1656 op-amp (section 6.2) states an ESD protection level of 2,000V (human-body model). In atmospheric conditions and especially if synthetic materials are present (synthetic clothing, carpets etc.), the ESD levels can easily exceed 10,000V. The semiconductor manufacturer will ship this type of ESD sensitive component is an anti-static bag. The user of the component is expected to employ protective measures to mitigate the ESD risk whilst handling and installing the component into the end equipment. In an electronics lab the Technician / Engineer will wear an anti-static wrist strap and have dissipative mats on their workbench. The Burson and Sparkos op-amps are assemblies using discrete components but are also likely to contain ESD sensitive semiconductors.
How are the boards in Geshelli Labs products assembled? It seems as if your products are practically hand made. I have a J2S and it looks beautiful and well made. Just ordered a Dayzee. I'm very excited!
Honestly I think people sleep on the 1656s. I think they are 95% as good as any discrete op amps and kinda make you question if its even worth upgrading.
The DayZee sounded very impressive with just the standard TIs. I would start with those and upgrade only if you feel the need to--there's more to that sound refinement of that beast than just the OPs...
Nice to see the different offerings. That Dayzee is something, but well out of my range and would not fit in my rack anyway. I'm about 85% analog and 15% digital if you count CDs. I do stream, but only for occasional background noise and research, I can't stand formally listening to it. For formal listening I go with vinyl records or CD. That said, I have never had an outboard DAC, I just have the one in the CD player or the one in my preamp. I think the dac in my current CD player (Marantz ND8006) is likely alright or good enough, I'm not sure. The dac in my preamp though sounds slightly harsher and thin. One would think that is not the case given the cost, but the focus in design was really on the analog side and overall circuitry, which a good job was done there (partly why I bought it). The dac and headphone amp were afterthoughts in my opinion. (The headphone amp is pretty poor, so I got an outboard and solved that issue). Anyway, I am curious about getting an outboard DAC to see IF there is any notable improvement to my system's sound for CDs and other digital stuff. I have been told there will be by many, but who knows since we all have different listening experiences. I know nothing about DACs beyond the very basics. I know I am tired of ESS as that is all I have ever experienced in all the CD players and such I have owned. I'm looking for a more natural sound. An R2R DAC would have a more natural sound, but they are expensive and not many on market. I know nothing about op amps or the differences between them or between DAC chips. I believe there are no differences between DAC chip brands, but the differences are in implementation of them. I may be wrong or perhaps partly correct. My getting an outboard DAC is pretty low on my list, but if I could try one I would choose Geshelli Labs indeed as I have been looking at your DACs for the last almost two years and when the time comes, I would need to talk to someone for some education (what op amps do and the differences, etc.) in order to select the DAC I want to try. I also can't get spendy so I would look at the J2 or J2S. I would also need to arrange something in case it does nothing, like cables. Again, it will be a little while though as it is not high on my priority list to get an outboard DAC.
do all the dayzee's come with the flush metal front plate? is it possibly to get the same circular glass front plate as on the j2? that front style gives a wood border to the face plate.... cause with the metal plate....you cant see the wood from directly in front. the all metal faceplate is a bit of a divergence from your earlier design language....if the dayzee was huge and looked like a j2 or with the buttons n stuff...id be sold.
I think you will need a revealing nearfield system to really hear a difference. Although I way be wrong, I think i prefer the cheap TI chips over the Sparkos...I think?
Great informative video. Want to order the J2S version.I heard somewhere that there's a newer, slightly more spacious version of the J2S that can fit the sparkos lab ss2590s much easier in comparison to the first versions, is that true? Or can the J2s be altered to make the dual opamps fit more comfortably?
@@phrocasso5906 thank you! The J3 is the bigger form factor which can fit the 2590’s in both the XLR’s and RCA’s comfortably! It also has independent switches for the inputs as well which the J2S does not offer. In order to order the 2590’s you do have to email in, as they do not come in the unit due to the heaviness, but I do have a video on how to swap the op amps and take the unit apart and put back together. Hope this helps!
@@RachelGeshelli you're welcome. The J3 does look nice, with the additions and space it may suit my wants but I just need a J2s. Thank you for the quick response and valuable information.
@@phrocasso5906 you’re welcome!! And the J3 is taller to match the bigger form factor of the A3 and E3. The design of the board makes the 2590’s fit as they are wider than any of the other op amps, So the sockets are more spread out on the board. You can upgrade the case to the bigger form factor for the J2 as well if you wanted! Just write it in the comments when purchasing or email in!
@@RachelGeshelli You clarify things straight to the point. It makes sense with the J3 pro as the board is more spacious along with it's housing. Sorry, one last final question, would the 2590 fit the J2s with the bigger form factor?
@@phrocasso5906 I try to hahaha I’m glad it’s all making sense! And so the bigger case doesn’t really have anything to do with the 2590 more to do with the independent switches! The regular j2 size case will fit the 2590 in height. You could fit it on the RCA but not the XLR’s.

I specifically talked to Geno about this IP today when I noticed the same thing and he basically stated that the fact that there's no standards shied them away from adopting this (to this point). It's also much more complicated to get the timing right. They specifically work hard on the USB input to make sure it would sound as good as the i2s.

The difference in sound is going to be based off your listening experience so what I hear may be different then what you hear! Randy’s J2 4499 review went over what he heard differently with the sparkos I believe! But it is all relative to your ears!
As Rachel said it's a completely different beast. It has basically two DACs inside with the mono design (unlike the rest it has dual AKM 4499/4191 chips). Also it has dual outputs for both RCA and XLR balanced. All that needs significantly more space for the connectors & to let the components breathe... but also it's larger size allows for some of the nicest woodworking designs I've seen on an audio component. That's why it's not very heavily advertised and you basically you have to inquire about it for the details. It also takes them hours and hours to meticulously make... so they only allow US orders at this time so they don't get overloaded. I heard it today and it sounds fantastic with just the stock TI op-amps.
OP amps? Personally if it has OP amps it doesn't sound musical, especially when listening at home of an evening. DAC's without OP amps (good ones) are in another league.
I had an Elgar back in the day. It was good. But I didn’t think any of these ridiculously expensive DACs sounded particularly special considering they cost 10s of thousands of dollars. Im spending my $$ on speakers, not DACs.

Again, it will be a little while though as it is not high on my priority list to get an outboard DAC.
the sparkos 2590 are great
They are a great op amp!
do all the dayzee's come with the flush metal front plate? is it possibly to get the same circular glass front plate as on the j2? that front style gives a wood border to the face plate.... cause with the metal plate....you cant see the wood from directly in front. the all metal faceplate is a bit of a divergence from your earlier design language....if the dayzee was huge and looked like a j2 or with the buttons n stuff...id be sold.
You can! The faceplate is available in metal and plexi! You can email into info@geshelli.com to customize how you want it!
@@RachelGeshelli ty you rock!
How do these compare with the sound from a Ares II? Where would it fall in the Geshelli line up?
Fantastic and informative video!
Thank you!
Nice video! I may have missed it, but what DAC chips will be available in the J3 Pro, the same as in the J2S? Thanks
The J3 Pro will have the AKM 4499EXEQ chip inside
Can you do a video showing how the different chips sound ? I have no idea what to expect if I get a different chip.
I think you will need a revealing nearfield system to really hear a difference. Although I way be wrong, I think i prefer the cheap TI chips over the Sparkos...I think?
Excellent tutorial!Thx..
Is there a way to get the box from the J3 pro or Archel or special order the J2s with the J3 pro or other housing? Is it better to order the sparkos opamp from you guys?
This is brilliant! 😃
where are you? we miss you!
When will the dual 2590's be available on the website?
@@michealboudreaux due to shipping, we now send the J3 with the standard OPA 1656’s and the 2590’s separate in the box. Email into info@geshelli.com and you can order them that way! It’s to ensure people understand they will have to swap them when they receive their product as the op amps are very top heavy.
when is this DAYZEE going to be ready to order?
@@thomashull7169 it is available for purchase now! On our website you will see under the DACs there is an option for the DayZee! You will work one on one with someone to design your case (wood or plexi) and what op amp options you would like! You can also call or email into info@geshelli.com
Nice video. You did a nice job of laying out the differences in options and so on. One thing, however. I was on the web site trying to spec out a J3 with the Sparkos 2590 op amps and I do not see them on there as an option for this device. I only see the Sparkos SS3602. So I am not sure how that upgrade would affect the price of the unit or if it is actually available.
@@Raptorace225 the 2590’s have to be shipped outside of the unit due to the heaviness of them. To order them you have to email into info@geshelli.com the price listed was the starting price, any upgrade in op amps or choice of wood will raise the price. Hope this helps!
Do I understand correctly, that the Dayzee is not available in Europe ?
Thanks for sharing.
Thank you!
Is it possible to listen to the devices in Germany?
I see the J3 Pro listing is removed from the web site today the day of this video, are there still changes in the works? I almost ordered the J2S when I seen the mention of new product release, so I'm waiting to see this fully released and go that route.
The J3 hasn’t been added to the website yet! It may have been a fluke or test. If you want to preorder you can email into info@geshelli.com to get in the queue! It will be released at the end of the month :)
any chance of getting the DAYZEE with I2S HDMI input?
I specifically talked to Geno about this IP today when I noticed the same thing and he basically stated that the fact that there's no standards shied them away from adopting this (to this point). It's also much more complicated to get the timing right. They specifically work hard on the USB input to make sure it would sound as good as the i2s.
I aant the dayzee an all clear, sent to uk how much?
Would I need to go through the web site to get pricing info? Would like to know how much I need to save up for a Dayzee.
A DayZee starts at $1200 for the full clear Plexi case. For wood it starts at $1300! You can always email in to get a quote and save from there! :)
Bring your products to Europe, please
Which would be the best option ? Sparkos ss 3602 / burson v7 vivid pro / burson v7 classic pro / burson v5i / ti opa 1656 . Can someone help me choose . Thanks

Sparkos 2590 dual
@@ryanmcgrath9869
After 20 years and eight DACs and 90 days of research earlier this year I picked the J2 socketed DAC with the Burson V7 Classic op amp for the single ended input. I am impressed with the soundstage and instrument realism. Passion for Sound guy did a good assessment.
My J2 is used for CDs in a Klipsch Chorus II and tube amplifier system.
On the website for the J3 there is no option for the sparkos 2590s?
@@primalscream46 because of the heaviness of the op amp, we have to send them outside of the unit, not installed. Email into info@geshelli.com and you can order them!
Is swapping out op amps similar to tube rolling? What are the differences in the sound between the different op amps?
The difference in sound is going to be based off your listening experience so what I hear may be different then what you hear! Randy’s J2 4499 review went over what he heard differently with the sparkos I believe! But it is all relative to your ears!
Why is the DAYZEE so huge?
My dCS makes these sound cheap seriously..!!!
I had an Elgar back in the day. It was good. But I didn’t think any of these ridiculously expensive DACs sounded particularly special considering they cost 10s of thousands of dollars. Im spending my $$ on speakers, not DACs.
@@kineahora8736 You do what you have to do..I do have seriously stupid speakers/amps /turntable as well so don't need to think about it 🙂
