While Rushdown Revolt is by no means a major mainstream hit just yet like the Super Smash Bros series or Multiversus, the team behind this project is taking a grassroots approach working alongside various communities to raise awareness while still in development.

Facts!
While everyone is talking about Multiversus, you all are bringing this to light. I don't have much interest in platform fighters or smash clones, but this sounds interesting as hell from a traditional fg fan.
This game has basically been out now for over a year… Very fun, hardcore PF fighter… with NO PLAYERS, multiversus is just a far more promising prospect given the audience that will see it
Platfighters that isn’t smash aren’t clones, that’s like calling all fgs clones as well. They’re trying to expand as a genre
@@djandjb1 it's 1v1 with rollback, they only need to get a 100 or so players to be fun. I get the appeal but multiversus feels sluggish and some people hate 2v2. Its not gonna be an evo headliner but the best hope is a skullgirls like growth based on wide availability and being interesting.

Honestly, when I first realized this game was based off Icons, I wrote it off. I'm gonna check out this game now.
Awesome video. Everyone is focusing on Multiversus when games like this should be brought into the light more often, especially for those looking for something just as mechanically in-depth and competitive as Smash. I love this game and wish the best for it's future and the devs!
MultiVersus is too floaty and I like Nick brawl as it is pretty fast enough for my liking.

I’ve been playing it for a few days because of this video and I have really liked it, it’s very unique and pretty fluid/intuitive
Glad that they are growing. About 3 years ago I saw then at a smash tournament I went to and they gave me a beta code. Should’ve joined but I’m glad they doing well.
I highly recommend Rushdown Revolt. Its unique and a complete evolution of the genre. I have been having a lot of fun with it.
Great video! It talked alot about how it sets itself apart from other Platform fighters, but i wish it talked a little more about how approachable it can be for the casual audience. When it supports all sorts of controls thanks to it's 'assisted' settings, it's an easier sell for casuals who might think this game isnt worth trying at all because "I don't even know how to wave dash".
As a casual, I am put off by it, because of the combos I’ve seen that looks like it’s from a traditional fighting game. I’m not keen on being hit by a “one touch death”.

@@Athorment That's cool, but them combos still put me at unease. Like I already get shmixed in Smash and Multiversus, seeing how this game is faster, I can already imagine how much of an ass whooping I'll eventually get in comparison to the prior games. I'll still try it out and hope for the best, I do want more competition for Smash Bros., I'm just preparing for the worst :P
@@vorpalblade6525 I find that MVS is a lot more faster, at least from my perspective. Also, you freestyle most of your combos tbh, there are some true combos but most of the time, players just react to your DI or guess it. From a new player point of view, RR looks super intimidating (as a new player too, i still feel like that) but when you begin to understand how it works and what you can do, it gets very fun so fast.
I was so anticipating "This was Gerald from Core-A Gaming. Thanks for watching" at the end of the video. His music has a strong association for me.
I think this is the most fun I've had with a platform fighter in a long time. I still love a lot of others in the genre, but I truly think this game has my favorite gameplay style I've ever got my hands on.
Thank you so much for giving this game the attention it deserves! I’ve been playing off and on during the alpha and it’s definitely one of the most enjoyable platform fighters I’ve played. I really hope it catches on by the time it fully releases, it deserves it.
Played this game for around 200 hours in early alpha, back when it was called Vortex Rising. Definitely had a ton of fun and the community is great. Lots of fun tournaments on their discord and the netplay is fantastic.

At first glance it seems that rendering the background may be the most processor heavy aspect of the game.
They have a setting called Potatoe so your good on lower settings you can run real good

Judging from the character art, is this rising from the ashes of Icons... 1:54 - It is! Gosh, the character art is reminiscent but they've improved the look of it all a fair bit. That knockback band mechanic is neat and it's cool to see the developers manage to bounce back after their previous failure. Best of luck to them!
This game has so many things going for it the devs really know who the are and who the players are an they care enough a year before beta it already had events with cash rewards for playing brackets if you wanted hot dam

I used to think this game was kinda lame and uninspired when it was first revealed and was super surprised randomly seeing a suspiciously similar and cool looking game with a different name on Steam a while back.
Honestly very happy for them and their efforts that have clearly paid off.

Man watching this video brought back memories, a recent memory I have of the game devs listening is that some time ago they would host a discord station called "City Hall" every Friday which lasted about an hour and they would do an informal presentation on what they were allowed to reveal, and they would also listen and answer questions live.
I'm primarily fgc but, if this is a type of content done for all of e-sports games, this channel is a guiding light. I know you guys are small now but you will blow up because of the value that you add.

I think the game should focus on characters having a personality, so players can get attached to them. Voicelines would help, and maybe some lore info in each of characters included in the game.
If they’re able to put forth the money for it, this game could go pretty hard in the character department

They do have voicelines! The newest character Reina even calls you a "little shit" when you select her.

With Icons (and now this) and Rising Thunder (with the next LoL vsf game), I'm just glad titles that tried to innovate the genre finally meet some success so they can continue to live somehow
Just tried it out today. Surprisingly easy to get into and a lot of fun.
it's always awesome to hear stories of the indie devs doing what they do best: whatever the triple a guys have not tried. sometimes its a miss, but sometimes it hits really HARD. keep up the good work y'all.
i was one of the few who really wanted the original Icons to really succeed I remember being so happy when the Legacy Edition came outta nowhere so you can understand when I say I'm livid that I didn't know about this till I saw this video I knew they were working on something & I can't shake the feeling I've heard the name Rushdown Revolt somewhere before now but whatever the case I'm so pumped to see this I can hardly contain myself it's games like these from Slap City to MultiVs to this that is what we need to shake up this genre & to make people stopping saying such stupid things like smash clone where this genre can finally grow into something it's own & I couldn't be happier

Rushdown Revolt is easily the most free form fighting game that I've ever played. It's free too. I can't recommend it enough
I remember hearing about this game in development after Icons crashed and burned. Glad to see it has a good community and looks super fun! definitely going to have to try it out now since the only other platform fighter that is really interesting to me right now is Rivals which can feel a bit too much like Melee at times for me.
It's like when you copy things and focus only on the money games fail but when they have passion and follow the creator's vision they succeed who would have thought
money based games don't suck by default but games like RR have perks you can not downplay

Haven't played this game since early alpha, back when it was still Vortex Rising. Played some Icons too, I thought it was fun as a smash alternative but didn't shake up the formula enough to justify playing it over Smash or another platform fighter like Rivals. Definitely want to pick it back up again, it still looks sick!
As a massive anime fighter nerd, and previously platform fighter player I will definitely be checking this one out. Wish the best for devs, they always make their best work when doubling down on an idea while actually learning (ffxiv is great).
This game is super fun. I highly recommend people play it. Also they got a discord and the devs are super chill. Met them at geneses
This game always seemed really interesting when people were advertising it during tournaments for other games, most recently evo, but it didn’t seem like it ever really found a very big audience unfortunately. I hope more people try it out because it really is super creative

An observation from a casual : I was around during the ProjectM days and was even at my local all the time. A huge chunk of that dev team worked on Icons after tha OG ProjectM team was forced to give it up. Which could explain all the smash similarities Icons had.

I really wanna see this game do well. I bought into their closed alpha and love playing. I can't help but wonder if there were a console version would it gain more traction?
Am I the only one who is intimidated by the incredible skill caps in platform fighters that all want to be like Melee? They act like every person who is interested in platform fighters wants to play like a melee pro with 500 APM.
The devs talk about how they cater to enthusiasts of both the platform fighting genre as well as 2D fighters. But I feel like that shouldn't be the case for a popular game, which should simply appeal to everyone. The devs of RR promoted their game by talking about the mechanics: this-canceling, that-canceling etc, without talking about stuff that people who never played a fighting game would appreciate.
The earliest popular platform fighter was Smash for the 64, which was more or less a party game for everyone to jump in. I would really love to live in a world where platform fighters would shake off the legacy of Melee and try to be a little more... popular.

I wish the video would have touched on this, but there is plenty of support for a casual audience mechanic and control-wise.
You can play with a mouse alone (No keyboard) thanks to the plethora of "Assisted mode" settings, so if you are thinking "This game is not for me because i can't wavedash"... then fear not! There's an "Auto-spark" option and other such things to mess around with :)
They have customs that have Moses that makes it more casual if you want an the discord lives to help

I said this about Icons, back in 2018 when I was suggesting random idea's to differentiate from other games in the community hub.
(Now most of my ideas aren't meant to be in the vain of a competitive mindset, but instead a constructive one. Any idea could lead to another and my wish for newer experiences from the type of the games I play. If Icon is suppose to be very close to what's already familiar then I guess my suggestion are unneeded. Because building on what exist only goes as far as melee or smash 4. If the game is meant to be basic smash then its as far as it goes with newer improvements, otherwise I'm interested in seeing this game evolve in its own way outside of characters.)
Its good they finally found a way to make the game feel fresh and unique now. They even showed up at evo, now if they can get people to play without being a mega brand.

Smash is huge. There are quite a few games like Smash and to compete with Smash is hard. Granted that the game will see success and have it's own community. Smash is like the godfather of that style of fighting. But seeing how this game is. It changes things to giving what the players like. It can appeal to both Smashers and also anyone in general. Might even drag in some FGC people on its technical way of playing and it being like other fighting games. When it comes to fighting games. People have their interests. People will flock to try it out and see if they like it or not. If it is for them or not. This has melee and or different made smash related fan made stuff. They actually love that stuff in smash. Now to incorporate other mechanics to the game that is like other fighters while still having a smash related playstyle is actually amazing. Wish them success. It sounds epic to me. Now there is a fast pace game that is also technical and more.
Do they have cool unique taunts? It would be cool if each character had a generic taunt and a special taunt for the opponent they are facing.

but the best part is that theirs a lot of stickers you can throw up real fast some are even based off streamers so if you want you can spam them if you want hehe

I hope they look at the wb smash bros games and take some ideas. Like the blast zone shock wave. Where if you blast some out of the area and your off stage. The blast will cause a shock wave propelling you towards the stage.
