- Marking one year since the release of Council Skies, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds have released the new four part docu-series titled ‘The Making of Council Skies’.
The intimate series is presented as a digital scrapbook documenting the recording sessions that made Noel Gallagher’s critically acclaimed recent studio album, ‘Council Skies’.
Filmed by Anais Gallagher at Noel’s own studio Lone Star Sound in North London, over 28 hours of footage were captured during the four-month recording process. The series was directed by Noel Gallagher, and edited by Jamie Carter, and each episode documents one month of the ‘Council Skies’ sessions through January, February, March and April 2022.

About Noel Gallagher:
Noel Gallagher was the main songwriter, lead guitarist and occasional lead vocalist of Oasis, one of the biggest and most loved bands ever to emerge from the UK. His band played a tremendous role in shaping and inspiring contemporary guitar music from the 1990’s onwards. Noel’s continued success with the High Flying Birds cements his position as one of the most prolific and successful British songwriters of the last 50 years.
Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds first emerged in 2011 with their eponymous album released in October of that year. The album went double platinum in the UK and has sold over 2.5 million copies worldwide. The release of the debut album was supported by a touring schedule covering 150 live shows in 32 countries.
This was followed by ‘Chasing Yesterday’, released in March 2015 - the first album to be produced as well as written by Noel, with 122 further shows in 28 countries.
A third album, ‘Who Built The Moon?’, was recorded in sessions spanning 2 years with renowned producer and composer David Holmes in Belfast and London released in November 2017.
There followed a series of multi-genre EPs released over the course of 2019 and 2020, all receiving high critical acclaim.
June 2021 saw the release of ‘Back The Way We Came: Vol 1 (2011-2021)’ - a Best Of celebrating a decade of Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds. This was the bands 4th consecutive Number 1 album and the 12th Number 1 album across Noel’s career. 2021 also saw Noel named as Record Store Day’s official ambassador.
Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds played Glastonbury’s Pyramid stage in June 2022, delivering a career-spanning set to one of the weekend’s biggest crowds. The show was the culmination of a summer of acclaimed sold-out outdoor venues across the UK.
Fast forward to 2023 and Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds are looking ahead to their much anticipated fourth studio album, ‘Council Skies’, due for release 2nd June. From the evocative album title to the cover art, to the lyrics themselves, ‘Council Skies’ sees Noel Gallagher bringing a more personal perspective, reclaiming his past and paying homage to his Mancunian roots. His most varied and accomplished solo record to date, Noel’s new album is a record framed by confidence, risk-taking, surefooted creative freedom, and great emotional depth.
The first singles taken from the album - ‘Pretty Boy’ and ‘Easy Now’ - were met with a hail of critical and commercial success by fans and media alike. ‘Pretty Boy’ has also been remixed by The Cure’s Robert Smith, taking the track to a new spaced-out dimension.

Remember Rosie Danvers well from when she was seen regularly as a member of The Wired Strings performing with Weller in the 90's. They also did a lovely intro of 'Riverboat Song' for OCS at the Albert Hall in 97.

Jessica Greenfield. Actually she's a contralto, and Noel's a tenor, so there's a lot of difference. But she tries to sing as high as him.

Said it before but noel needs to strip back his music - you can barely make out half of the stuff that's been recorded and its such a shame. And people will say "get better speakers /earphones, listen to vinyl" but the reality is most people listen to music on a smart speaker and the amount of beautiful stuff that's lost in the mix is a tragedy. Simple acoustic instruments, noel

It’s a great album and it’s among his best work IMO, but as usual with Noel’s music the mixing/production of the final thing is lacklustre.
@michaelb9664 I don't know too much about them but people have said that to me before "oh sucks for you listening on crappy ear phones" or whatever! I just think when I've watched these vids and i hear the instruments recorded in isolation they sound great but I can never really pick them out on the record. Even a lady here, think she might be scoring the strings, says something like "it's like you've got a load of ideas and don't know which ones your favoirite" and that's how I feel about the whole record.
@@DH-TV Noel’s final versions of his albums are densely mixed and very heavily dynamically compressed to the point that a lot of instruments lose their timbre.
Listening to these videos on the same speakers and headphones I use for his albums everything sounds so much more alive here on video than they are in the final mix because everything hasn’t been crushed to death with too many layers as per the fished article.
Not everything recorded is meant to be “heard”, it’s meant to fill space, atmospheric, thicken, or add a splash, etc.
@AMVANCITY fair play, but *personally* I'd rather hear him a lot more stripped back....somenofnthe stuff we hear here is gorgeous and it just seems lost to me in the final mix 👍
Love Noel, love the way he works in the studio, but good God the production is over saturated here. Those strings are beautiful on its own, with just Noel's voice, Revolver style. Too much layering.. dulls the whole effect. Even Pet Sounds lets the instruments breathe.
I'm a bit disappointed by this, after waiting all these months... it's mainly overdub sessions and less Noel recording before early 2022...I would have loved seeing those songs getting born... still hopes for the last episode
