As a LN reader, it annoyed me *so much* every time the subtitles referred to the Holy Kingdom as the Theocracy in this episode. Like seriously, anime-only fans are going to be SO confused by that (especially with the movie version of volumes 12 & 13 not being out yet)
indeed. The part where the prince talked about the Theocracy wanting to help the Kingdom and then a few minutes later, the Kingdom suddenly asking food aid to the Sorcerer Kingdom didnt add up at all.
I mean actually anime only fans are not confused by that since the anime has literally showed or spoken absolutely nothing of the Holy Kingdom. Like it’s a a non-entity so I’m not confused that Nazarick isn’t sending supplies to nowhere. I’m more confused by the seals on the letter to the Kingdom.
Operation carrot and stick as you mention was called "Whip and Candy" in light novel, was actually mention in this episode when Hilma was send back to her mansion around 11:50 She said "I never know how sweet the Candy until she know the pain of the whip" something like that.
It’s just the different in idiom between Eng and Jpn language. One uses “carrot and stick” and the other uses “candy and whip”. Otherwise same meaning. It would be pretty weird if Hilma says “the sweetness of the carrot” now that I imagine it lmao.
I think it's really really bad that they didn't show Phillip robbing the carriage. That scene is the whole reason for the war. Boy literally threw the Sorcerer Kingdom flag on the ground and stepped on it.
I find it amazing how fast every single Nazerik member is okay with resorting to genocide without Ainzs there, like if they all ended up in the new world without Ainzs half the nations would be either gone or farms within a month
Not really just look what happened to shalltear in the first season DDDL , PDL , Slane Theocracy and the elf king the new world is dangerous ainz is really smart when he decided to explore the new world and sending the death knights first
Well look at it this way, they were originally NPC's in yggdrasil that did nothing but stand guard and attack any non-guild members on site. Nothing else. There was no personality and only flavor text to them. So this is their baseline. That is then affected by flavor text and gaps are filled in with their creator's personality.
Great review man. Yeah I thought Hilma’s reaction to Ainz’s mercy kind of came across as simping, rather than her being overjoyed to know that there is hope for the Eight Fingers members if they subordinate themselves under Ainz directly. Which in the novels kind of felt like she was admiring Ainz as some merciful god that saved her from hell.
I've seen a theory somewhere and it's been in my mind ever since. Maybe in reality Ainz has been subconsciously smart this whole time, but his own conscious doesn't realize that. Like his own thought push him to do/say this without himself knowing why he said that, but in reality it's his subconscious doing the work.
I mean that could make a lot a sense. If we look at his character class and race he’s an overlord the strongest and wisest of the undead races, Along with the fact that he’s a necromancer with essentially maxed out intelligence given the fact that I believe, and I may be wrong don’t quote me on this, he knows more spells than any other player. So it could be very likely that he is super intelligent subconsciously like mentioned, it’s just that his real life personality is overriding his subconscious.

@@harriermk2 agreed, I have seen some people complain about episode 1 and 2 because of the talking, and those episode already have cut content, so imagined if it is fully detailed they would complain even more
from what i could tell what was sent was not a declaration of war but more of an announcement that due to the attack war was likely should the kingdom not do something to placate nazarick. this can sort of be proved by the fact that after the conversation of the kingdom discussing the letter that albedo had shown up for a meeting with the king where the king offered his own head in return for continued peaceful relations.
Phillip is a genius who guides the strongest character in all of Overlord, yet, to control Ainz's and the other denizens of Nazarick with his super rare spice magic. He also made himself impossible to be perceived by anyone who smells his spices, so no one knows he exists. Ainz is just a pawn in Phillip's game!
As I recall, Ainz did inflict True Death on Gazef, which means low-level resurrection spells wouldn't work to bring Gazef back to life. Plus Gazef did tell Ainz that he didn't want to be restored after their duel. Either way, Lakyus wouldn't be able to revive Gazef and I doubt even the Holy Roble Empire resurrection spells would work.
OK. This helped clear the confusion about the Theocracy in this EP. From the coliseum duel episode to the Sorcerer Kingdom sending food to the Theocracy....what? I had to check what I was smokin'.
late night upload lets goooooo! i'm glad you made the mistranslation clear and i was very interested to hear about the king's stress from gazefs death and it' kinda funny that ainz actually unintentionally got something right for once
Thanks for the video! Yes I was so confused they kept saying they were sending aid to the "Theocracy" which is the most wealthy human kingdom. I've barely gotten into the light novels so I didn't realize they had skipped a few here.
1:58 I watch Overlord Season 4: Episode 8 on BiliBili, and the translation there was correct, they said; "Holy Kingdom" not Slane Theocracy. However, the Sorcerer Kingdom was mistranslating there and was callled as "Nation of Darkness"?
Can someone clear up something with me? So the theocracy is the country lead by those priest looking people that met up with jircniv right? And The reestieze kingdom is the one that Ainz and demiurge fought in as momon the adventurer The empire is Jircniv’s, and where Ainz was in the arena And the holy kingdom hasn’t been covered yet right?
How kind the Theocracy are to have been working in the shadows trying to form an alliance against the Sorcerer Kingdom in the start of the season to suddenly being sent food supplies by them. What a great strategy, Sasuga Ainz-sama!
The Reason they couldn't revive Gazef is because of #1 Gazef does not want to be brought back #2 The spell Ainz used True Death. This can only be overwritten with the same tier or above of resurrection magic. True Death is a 9th Tier Magic Spell
*Let's steal from an insanely-powerful Demon King. What's the worst that could happen?* Phillip only proved that there's no such thing as foolproof, because there will be a fool that will prove you wrong.
Who's dumber though? Philip thinking it was a genius move to attack the Sorcerer kingdom OR a room full of nobles who decided that immediately surrendering was unacceptable despite the Sorcerer kingdom and almost half a dozen other powerful factions admonishing them.
If you really think about it it's the room filled with nobles that the dumber one after it's becoues of them that Zanac has to walk on legos every time he wants to better the relationship with Sorcer kingdom as well as becoming the king and while Philip does have some at least some reason for being an idiot this guys have non
Both. Because while Phillip’s actions of stealing from a transport of humanitarian relief efforts had caused all other nations to avoid contact with Re Estize. The Kingdom can’t even ask for support from any of the other nations because they are protecting Phillip from the responsibility of his amoral act of selfishness.
I admit, I watched the s4 fan-subbed from a local website (I don't support piracy, but Crunchyroll isn't available in my country). Fortunately, the translation did simply refer them as "holy kingdom" not "theocracy", despite the fact that they didn't explicitly mentioned Holy Roble Kingdom. *edit: in the fan-sub, they also refer the name of their operation as "Whip and Candy"
in LN 14 two characters gave their opinion of ainz, hilma and renner. a courtesan and a genius, views from people whose insight to the hearts of men are paramount. though their vaunted experience and intellect failed to see through ainz acting. ainz is THAT GOOD, TOM CRUISE WHO@. unfortunately, we didnt get to see hilmas impression of ainz this episode
I wish, wish, wish that you would do a breakdown of the intros and all the new things they are introducing. There are new (and old resurfacing faces) faces in the crowd. Since they are already showing them i think its only fair to delve into them... Some anyways. xD
Knowing a bit about history, and having played strategy games like Crusader Kings, I immediately thought Albedo and Demiurge would be happy with what Phillip did, because it played into their hands. This very similar what happened with the Empire sending in workers, which was Demi's plan. They just didn't have to scheme for it. An act of aggression by a vassal, let a rumour spread with merchants about the incident to all neighbouring countries, blame the King for not reigning him in, threaten war, in negotiations demand Phillip's land or part of it and finally, when you have it, have one of the nobles bring up: if the king cedes land and doesn't protect his vassals as is his duty, why is there a king? Jircniv even did what the prince suggested. Blame the noble give Ainz his head. Demi should/could have thought of this from the start. That the Kingdom suspects Ainz deliberately schemed for this is not unwarranted. Previously they didn't show all that well that Phillip was stupid. But his conversation with the other 2 nobles did. I had many red flags pop up immediately, of which I suspect the writer knows the implications of. Not listening to peasants what can grow and wanting to make cash crops to sell is usually the mark of a tyrant. He will get rich, but everybody else won't. You will be heavily dependent on outside forces strong-arming yourself, you'd need to buy food and actually sell your cash crops for it. You can't do that as a faction leader. You need that independence or a very reliable trade partner. There will be a high risk transition period. Where there could be no food or money. It's labor intensive, there is a reason colonial powers used slaves for it, especially the Spanish and Portuguese. Harder to innovate, because it's just extracting resources without making an end product, creating stagnation. No need for education with just hard labor. With a labor shortage it's doomed to fail. He would cause a famine in his domain. Or/and have a revolution on his hand. On top of that attacking a Kingdom which subjugated the Empire stronger than the his own entire Kingdom he is a part of, not expecting the destruction/invasion of his own domain as retaliation at the very least. Ainz having undead work the fields could also cause problems btw. Right now it's fine because there is such a labor shortage, but replacing them for decades is going to cause problems. It's like automation taking away jobs.
The King just wants to be done with his reign. He’s so broken he’s “opting out” the same honorable way Gazef did. Logically it makes no sense. If he had real honor he would guide his Kingdom into this new world with as much intelligence and wisdom as he could muster, and just allow stupid people to pay the stupid price of their actions. But deep down he’s a coward and wants out.
I half glossed over the Theocracy mistake. I knew the Theocracy is going to be in more direct conflict with ainz though with the Kingdom conflict, so I did think it odd they were suddenly on good terms. If it was the Theocracy seal on the war document the Kingdom should 've immediately given in or subjugated themselves to the dragon Council state. Also Gazef was killed by Ainz using a spell that made revival impossible. This was in the anime. Lakyus was probably just unable.
All I can think about whenever anyone mentions holy kingdom arc? Bludgeoning. If you know, you know; but I have a feeling that’s a big reason it’s a movie instead.
Maybe it is part of their marketing strategy to use Theocracy instead of Holy Kingdom so as not to spoil the upcoming movie. There is not much details regarding the Theocracy on the LN so they felt safe to use them instead of spoiling the outcome of the movie.
I thought the conversation between Zanac and Reniar summarized the Holy Kingdom arch pretty well with the bare bones pieces of information as to not spoil the movie. But I hope they fix the 'Theocracy' botch. That was shameful.
Seeing as I have yet to read the Light Novels I didn't catch some things but I did find it odd that they kept repeatedly mentioning the Theocracy given what I know about the Theocracy they wouldn't accept help from Ainz But this helps make it clear now it's a sub error that was really bothering me
i'm gonna be honest, if the anime is a 7/10, then the ln is a 11/10, there's just sooo much detail in there that if they were to adapt lhe whole thing we would need like 8 seasons of overlord to get to this point instead of the 4 that we got. The Faceless One is indeed Neia.
Can't wait for best girl to finally show up 💖
Agreed! Refreshing to find someone else who truly realizes who the best girl in Overlord is.
It did seem strange that Ainz was sending food supplies to the Theocracy.
from what i could tell what was sent was not a declaration of war but more of an announcement that due to the attack war was likely should the kingdom not do something to placate nazarick. this can sort of be proved by the fact that after the conversation of the kingdom discussing the letter that albedo had shown up for a meeting with the king where the king offered his own head in return for continued peaceful relations.
Finally, been waiting for this breakdown
Props to the overlord opening in the background
The other cut content would be Princess Lana’s reaction when she saw the report of the attack on the transport.
I definitely was confused I’m glad I saw your video it helped slot sense I never read the light novel
"How Not To Summon An Overlord" is a name of a fanfic. I bet you can guess the crossover.
welcome back to our fav. channnel on Ainz-Sama
Good looking out!
For explaining which country the subtitle mishap was relating to.
I wasn't confused about the switch... but I can see it needing like, a title card in future eps lol.
Phillip is a genius who guides the strongest character in all of Overlord, yet, to control Ainz's and the other denizens of Nazarick with his super rare spice magic. He also made himself impossible to be perceived by anyone who smells his spices, so no one knows he exists. Ainz is just a pawn in Phillip's game!
hes so good that it hasnt been covered in the light novel or the anime, man transcends both mediums
Its actually Jet-sama who have SUPER SPICE MAGIC,he a alone can defeat every overlord characters with just his pinky finger
I made myself subscribed here bc of a healthy conversation here in comments really wholesome
Just found this channel, loved the content. 👌
Would you consider making a video about the Overlord Bonus Novel: The Vampire Princess of the Lost Country ?
Phillip should be a mindset, I'm not hustling anymore, I'm Philliping
Thanks for the video! Yes I was so confused they kept saying they were sending aid to the "Theocracy" which is the most wealthy human kingdom. I've barely gotten into the light novels so I didn't realize they had skipped a few here.
They skip an entire arc (2 volume 12&13) so it will confuse anime only fans.
I came for the title how dare you … I love it
1:58 I watch Overlord Season 4: Episode 8 on BiliBili, and the translation there was correct, they said; "Holy Kingdom" not Slane Theocracy. However, the Sorcerer Kingdom was mistranslating there and was callled as "Nation of Darkness"?
I believe the holy kingdom movie should be a 2-hour movie that way the vol 12 & 13 have proper breathing room as the first middle and third Acts.
Can someone clear up something with me?
So the theocracy is the country lead by those priest looking people that met up with jircniv right?
And The reestieze kingdom is the one that Ainz and demiurge fought in as momon the adventurer
The empire is Jircniv’s, and where Ainz was in the arena
And the holy kingdom hasn’t been covered yet right?
Correct!
All correct, theocracy are also the people who brainwashed shalltear although ainz doesnt know.
@@plantcrone9662 well not until the end of Volume 16 he didn't.
I hope they at least show the caravan attack in a flash back.
Nice to see that we are getting into volume 14! I don't know much about this volume but i heard it is a crazy as volumes 12-13. Lets go!~ 😁
I was gonna say why would they send food to the theocracy.
Great breakdown
After reading the LN I do mess the little things they skipped like the "attack" on the food convoy
How kind the Theocracy are to have been working in the shadows trying to form an alliance against the Sorcerer Kingdom in the start of the season to suddenly being sent food supplies by them. What a great strategy, Sasuga Ainz-sama!
The whole theocracy/holy roble kingdom thing had me so fucked up so thank you so much for that clarification 🙏.
Hey, where the heck is the new video? I'm waiting for the episode 9 analysis
The Reason they couldn't revive Gazef is because of
#1 Gazef does not want to be brought back
#2 The spell Ainz used True Death. This can only be overwritten with the same tier or above of resurrection magic. True Death is a 9th Tier Magic Spell
i like how u express Lord Philip genius move hahahahaah
TH-cam didn’t notified me that you uploaded 🙃
*Let's steal from an insanely-powerful Demon King. What's the worst that could happen?*
Phillip only proved that there's no such thing as foolproof, because there will be a fool that will prove you wrong.
Ainz like: "Bone? Which one? But don't ask the bone I don't have."
Thank you for the clarification on the holy kingdom
I’m so confused, then I found your channel 🤣tnx
I admit, I watched the s4 fan-subbed from a local website (I don't support piracy, but Crunchyroll isn't available in my country). Fortunately, the translation did simply refer them as "holy kingdom" not "theocracy", despite the fact that they didn't explicitly mentioned Holy Roble Kingdom.
*edit: in the fan-sub, they also refer the name of their operation as "Whip and Candy"
I have to say this title is everything
in LN 14 two characters gave their opinion of ainz, hilma and renner. a courtesan and a genius, views from people whose insight to the hearts of men are paramount. though their vaunted experience and intellect failed to see through ainz acting. ainz is THAT GOOD, TOM CRUISE WHO@. unfortunately, we didnt get to see hilmas impression of ainz this episode
*King of fear's bugs eating them from the inside out
Me: ah yes, the shion treatment.
I was very confused about the whole thing I thought I had miss a episode
Yeah i hope you make all country/kingdom explain in 1 video 🙏
Tbh I still confuse bout that 😅
> the way this guy says
YAO " DA BAE" OH
GOT ME CRACKING UP
That some kinda Chinese dude with demon fire or something
Some people, are just too dumb to live.
RIP Philip rest in pieces, if there's anything left of you.
Albedo will still have a use for him.
LOL bro there is no way to predict stupidity KEKW
All I can think about whenever anyone mentions holy kingdom arc? Bludgeoning. If you know, you know; but I have a feeling that’s a big reason it’s a movie instead.
i love your breakdown more spoiler please i like it
Maybe it is part of their marketing strategy to use Theocracy instead of Holy Kingdom so as not to spoil the upcoming movie. There is not much details regarding the Theocracy on the LN so they felt safe to use them instead of spoiling the outcome of the movie.
For who, English watcher? Since the Japanese dub said Holy Kingdom so.
The translation in my language also said Holy Kingdom.
I thought the conversation between Zanac and Reniar summarized the Holy Kingdom arch pretty well with the bare bones pieces of information as to not spoil the movie. But I hope they fix the 'Theocracy' botch. That was shameful.
I love all the episodes so far, wish we see Enri and her goblin army again
yea .. I was soo confused with the ep ..I ended up read the LN for first time ever
Seeing as I have yet to read the Light Novels I didn't catch some things but I did find it odd that they kept repeatedly mentioning the Theocracy given what I know about the Theocracy they wouldn't accept help from Ainz
But this helps make it clear now it's a sub error that was really bothering me
One of the best arc start.
Ahh great episode keep it up
Man I need to start reading the LN.
it’s so fucking good you won’t regret it
i'm gonna be honest, if the anime is a 7/10, then the ln is a 11/10, there's just sooo much detail in there that if they were to adapt lhe whole thing we would need like 8 seasons of overlord to get to this point instead of the 4 that we got. I highly highly highly recommend the ln, it's on another level.
@@nandy2012 completely agree wit yu
Alright!
Start with volume 12 and 13
The 2 nobles set up the idiot, it was pre planned by the 2 to get ride of Philip, its pretty much said so in the LN.
Glad I wasn’t trippin with the translation thing
