Tesla is desperate to MONETIZE FSD, not "sell" it. I wouldn't say they are "desperate" to get high quality data, they have literally hundreds of thousands of mile per day of data to work with coming in. They have plenty of data, getting the weighting right to handle corner cases is the issue. I think what you mean is they are looking to collect data to round out corner cases....

Tesla is the best car company ever! No gas stations, No oil changes, No smog check, No corrupt dealership, No catalytic converter and as fast as a $550,000 Lamborghini.
There's more to oil changes ... it's a chance to get under your car and check for problems .. smog check is just a diagnostic tool to see if everything is working right .. no corrupt dealership?? Where do you take your car for repairs?? No catalytic converter ... how about no 10k dollar battery .. heavy car wears out tires faster .. always a fire disaster if it happens.. they're not cheaper to run and that's why the car rental business is removing them from the fleets .. which is the entire bottom line. . When a person matures the need to beat a super car in a drag race isn't a selling point .. cost .. practicality is ... when you have a half tank of gas you know how far you can travel ..with a tesla you have no idea when weather temperatures are changing
I think lowering FSD to $8000 intends to move enhanced auto-pilot owners to upgrade for $2000. I have enhanced autopilot, and at this lower price I'm seriously considering it. I'm not crazy about the current state of FSD, but I'm optimistic for the future. What should I do?
IMO, The FSD price cuts (and the free 30-day FSD license with every new car) have a single goal: Tesla needs a larger fleet of cars driving with FSD to generate the data required to train FSD neural networks.

I think Tesla bottoms around 100 then I will get back in. And yes blah blah blah from people preaching good luck timing the market. I am not timing the market, 2024 is going to suck for Tesla. The only news is the 8-8 reveal. If they pull out a Robo Taxi and thats all the stock will hit 100. FSD is not even close to 100%, it’s great I give ours 98%, still get confused every other day or so. Until it’s 100% it’s a great safety system only. Without FSD at 100% they may as well roll out an X-wing and just say engines to come soon. This stock is going to Drop all summer.
For Robotaxis, 99.9% is not enough. The need for 1 intervention (representing probably less than 0.0001% of the drive time) will render the ride a failure for commercial purposes. While ver 12.3.4 is a noticeable improvement from ver 11, I still need to intervene at least 2-3 times each way on my commute. And, when there are many cars around, I have to take over because it makes some rude and/or unpolished maneuvers that may potentially cause road rage for drivers around me. Ver 12.3.4 still suffers from many of the problems with ver 11 - hesitant/late lane changes, bad lane change decisions, taking wrong highway transitions, stopping way too early at stop signs, stopping way too long at stop signs, not creeping forward enough for right turns on red lights (some times ok), speeding over speed bumps, signaling left, then turning right, suddenly deciding to drive 5 mph on a 25-30 mph street, slowing down to 35 mph on the highway, running red lights atnhighway on-ramps, etc...
@Wi2Low In many of my interventions, a remote minder would not have been able to help. They happen in a split second and requore quick intervention. I have no doubt that TSLA will work out the kinks and make Robotaxis work in my lifetime However, I don't see full implementation in the next 2 years, and Elon is making substantial (and high financial risk) decisions as if Robotaxis will be implemented this year or next.

cutting the car prices is problematic, because margin percentages are so low that this erodes investor confidence, among other effects....but lowering auto pilot or FSD cost is not nearly so concerning, because the percentage of the price that represents margin is huge, and this allows a lot more leeway for fiddling without really 'losing money'.
Just an FYI, that bit shown at 17:35 on rectifying the issue with the Cybertruck pedal: I believe you mistook what was going on. The portion you showed is of the staff using a 3D-printed jig to drill the hole. There is a subsequent step of adding a rivet - which is actually shown in the video I believe. Please be careful when presenting this. I understand that even with that second step, it is still very fast - not unlike other simple recall fixes - note of course that recall fixes come in all ranges of complexities. Just as importantly, the promptness of Tesla in going out to fix this is definitely worthy of praise. Regardless, presenting with accuracy is paramount. Cheers mate

Once FSD is announced as solved, I wonder what that will do to the value of Tesla's vehicles that can utilize it. Just thinking of everyone complaining about price cuts and their market values. A home can't do that.
One thing I haven't seen anyone talk about is how a Tesla operating as a robotaxi will charge itself? Will Tesla need to hire people to work at superchargers to plug them in when they back in to a charging stall? Will they need to install some kind of robotic arm that automatically finds the port and plugs in the charger? Wireless charging so the Tesla just needs to drive over the charger? I haven't seen anyone talk about this.
I think FSD was priced to only sell to a small amount of the most interested customer base. Less risk of damages. Now that it’s working better they want more users/data.

There is one R.O.I. Issue that nobody is considering with FSD. FSD also keeps you out of accidents. My basic lane assist has already covered the cost of my model S by dodging bad drivers and preventing me from rear ending people. $8000 is the cost of a minor accident. Why wouldn’t that be the major factor for buying it?
The solution to sell more FSD is to sell it to the "customer", and not the "vehicle", then when I buy a new Tesla (or total one) I still have it. I think this would be called licensing, but I'm no expert.
When robotaxi launches FSD price will skyrocket. $8000 may be the deal of the century. It's a gamble. Tesla should manage expectations of how existing customers will be able to participate. Could sell more FSD now with participation assurances.
I would say its about 80% solved imo...for sure more than 50% even for what it is now it dramatically gives back to your overall well being by just reliving some of the stresses.
Anyone who would pay for FSD outright would also upgrade to a new Tesla well before seeing any price savings. I'm not spending thousands on FSD only to have buyers remorse when I trade in for a new Tesla in 4 years..

When I hear said that FSD will be working by 2030, I am wondering if we realize how damaging that is to Tesla to just throw out such conservative projections not based on AI silence and skill. The changes in fsd and vehicle pricing are only confusing to the church of Tesla fans. When I ask ANYONE other than myself about Tesla in my circle of family and friends, most of them still say, "Oh, that's that Elon guy, right?". That's all they know. They haven't a clue about the cars or FSD, and definitely not the pricing. So I don't think this is having any effect at all on the average person. People need to calm down. Lol
Paying $2000 more for Fake FSD is the problem. Having to stay alert and keep grabbing the wheel every 30 seconds is irritating and ridiculous. What happens if you fall asleep or have a heart attack or medical condition? It will come to a stop in the middle of a busy highway instead looking for a spot to pull over. That is not very smart AI. What happens if snow or ice covers up your cameras? You will have to take control or it again will come to a stop in the middle of the road? While it is probable that FSD will eventually work well for most good driving conditions it may never work well enough to get NHTSA certification without additional sensors such as radar or lidar. The human eyes can rotate and don't get covered with snow or ice. Also potential buyers are concerned that whatever hardware version they have when they buy a Tesla will not be compatible with the eventual certified version. I still believe Tesla will be the first to get FSD certification but it is at least 5 years away. You can't trust any of Musk's timelines.
Tesla may now be utilizing fleet maping and trafic awareness to augment other maps such as google. The fleet maps will be able to a give more real-time update on road conditions and statistically the best lanes to use as a function of your route, traffic, any road or highway accidents, temp traffic redirection and construction. This will be a game changer in giving Tesla cars a headup that not even a haman would know unless they lived in that area and drove the route every day and will be bettee than google😊

Tesla has huge issues the stock taking hurts owners of the stock. The msrp Elon plays with devalues the used market and repeat buyers. When your car value drops by 50% in a years time it makes it hard to trade in for a new model. Tinker with interest rates, allow lease buyouts, offer rebates but leave the msrp alone.

There is one R.O.I. Issue that nobody is considering with FSD. FSD also keeps you out of accidents. My basic lane assist has already covered the cost of my model S by dodging bad drivers and preventing me from rear ending people. $8000 is the cost of a minor accident. Why wouldn’t that be the major factor for buying it?
The real market is for commercial use not private use, but it doesn't work well enough to completely replace a taxi driver
The solution to sell more FSD is to sell it to the "customer", and not the "vehicle", then when I buy a new Tesla (or total one) I still have it. I think this would be called licensing, but I'm no expert.
When robotaxi launches FSD price will skyrocket. $8000 may be the deal of the century. It's a gamble. Tesla should manage expectations of how existing customers will be able to participate. Could sell more FSD now with participation assurances.
I would say its about 80% solved imo...for sure more than 50% even for what it is now it dramatically gives back to your overall well being by just reliving some of the stresses.

When I hear said that FSD will be working by 2030, I am wondering if we realize how damaging that is to Tesla to just throw out such conservative projections not based on AI silence and skill. Just like wild projections, that are not based on the sciences are not helpful, throwing out numbers that are five or six years from now does not build confidence.

The changes in fsd and vehicle pricing are only confusing to the church of Tesla fans. When I ask ANYONE other than myself about Tesla in my circle of family and friends, most of them still say, "Oh, that's that Elon guy, right?".
That's all they know. They haven't a clue about the cars or FSD, and definitely not the pricing. So I don't think this is having any effect at all on the average person.

Paying $2000 more for Fake FSD is the problem. Having to stay alert and keep grabbing the wheel every 30 seconds is irritating and ridiculous. What happens if you fall asleep or have a heart attack or medical condition? It will come to a stop in the middle of a busy highway instead looking for a spot to pull over. That is not very smart AI. What happens if snow or ice covers up your cameras? You will have to take control or it again will come to a stop in the middle of the road? While it is probable that FSD will eventually work well for most good driving conditions it may never work well enough to get NHTSA certification without additional sensors such as radar or lidar. The human eyes can rotate and don't get covered with snow or ice. Also potential buyers are concerned that whatever hardware version they have when they buy a Tesla will not be compatible with the eventual certified version. I still believe Tesla will be the first to get FSD certification but it is at least 5 years away. You can't trust any of Musk's timelines.
Tesla may now be utilizing fleet maping and trafic awareness to augment other maps such as google. The fleet maps will be able to a give more real-time update on road conditions and statistically the best lanes to use as a function of your route, traffic, any road or highway accidents, temp traffic redirection and construction.
This will be a game changer in giving Tesla cars a headup that not even a haman would know unless they lived in that area and drove the route every day and will be bettee than google😊

Tesla has huge issues the stock taking hurts owners of the stock. The msrp Elon plays with devalues the used market and repeat buyers. When your car value drops by 50% in a years time it makes it hard to trade in for a new model. Tinker with interest rates, allow lease buyouts, offer rebates but leave the msrp alone.
