    Car used in video:
    2018 Chevrolet Camaro SS 1LE
    This was really fun and just like paint the prep makes everything happen the way you want...
    This could easily be done on endless number of car parts. From under the hood, to body pieces, to interior pieces.
    Great little touch of detail and not too bad to do. Plus, supposed to last as good as paint would.
    I recommend anyone to try but practice on a couple things before doing the car parts...

    It's not always shiny side down. That can and does very easily vary by brand and even style or design. The easiest way to determine which side goes down into the water is to get your finger tips wet and touch a scrap piece of your film. The side of the film that sticks to your finger ALWAYS 110% of the time goes down into the water. The side that does not stick to your finger tip goes up.

    Very cool I almost bought a 10K Hydro tank 6' to start a business doing this. backed out when I would have needed another 10K for a spray booth. Would have loved to do this but just too much to get started

      You don’t need a spray booth. I built my own and the results compare to a high end spray booth and cost around 800$ because I did all the design and fabrication in house.

    I have a manifold cover for my F-150 and wanted to do this at home myself, do you know of any issue with heat in the engine bay affecting the dipped parts?
    Also, now to figure out a container big enough, and a good way to get hot water into it.

    • @OnlinecarshowNet1
      @OnlinecarshowNet1  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Make sure water in container is about 90 degrees when doing. The engine bay heat will give more issues with paint than the dip. I’ve had no issues with dipped parts so far. You need any help you can contact me direct through Instagram or email james@onlinecarshow.net. I’d practice on something first. I had a little stretch but I explained why. Cut the dip sheet to the container and not the part. That way it has no where to stretch to.

    • @OnlinecarshowNet1
      @OnlinecarshowNet1  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Don’t think it sticks to plastic but not expert. Also the dip sheet is one color usually black. The background color is actually the base paint coat. Plus you need to clear coat after dipping to protect...

  • @corylynch315
    @corylynch315 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Awesome job man. My only question is, do you have to paint the item first? Or can you just dip plastic or a piece of metal?

  • @MrRick0707
    @MrRick0707 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    hello good job looks great .
    how long does the film last in the engine bay with all heat and other elements inside?

    • @OnlinecarshowNet1
      @OnlinecarshowNet1  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have headers too so extra heat. It holds up fine. The hydrodip has painted surface on bottom and a clear coat of top. So it’s more will the paint take it than the hydrodip. With that said I’ve learned that the primer is very sensitive to heat. So I think the trick is finding the good primer and paint on top

    Don't tape edges.make tiny little cuts around edges if you tape you get bubbles and wrinkles. Wet fingers sticky side down

  • @vickikgibson9470
    @vickikgibson9470 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Use some making tape as wide as box and drag that across to clean water.:)

  • @baddrivercam
    @baddrivercam 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Three minutes was way to long before spraying the activator. That's the biggest reason for so much stretch. One minute wait if your water is between 80-90 degrees F. I'm surprised after three minutes it didn't just fall apart on you.

  • @jeffreywingler2867
    @jeffreywingler2867 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Well I'm a hydro Dipper but I'm having problem with my carbon it's like the carbon is real light like it's faded why is that

    • @OnlinecarshowNet1
      @OnlinecarshowNet1  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Mine was a little lighter too. I’m not sure but I blamed stretch and not cutting the film the container lid instead of size of what I’m dipping.

    • @OnlinecarshowNet1
      @OnlinecarshowNet1  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It also seems like you almost have to push it toward the film to stop streaming ch completely. But I haven’t tested that. Was just observations

    • @jackgrey8664
      @jackgrey8664 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Try another row of tape over the water and sides of tank about a cm away from the film tape. Saves cutting it to the size of the tank and you can control the size of the stretch.

    • @vickikgibson9470
      @vickikgibson9470 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Did you wash it good after dipping ?? Many can forget that step, and that leaves a coating on it which u don't want. Then clear coat when done:)

  • @patouillelafripouille7438
    @patouillelafripouille7438 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    ok thanks for mentioning how important it is to tape the edges: otherwise it stretches the design.

    • @OnlinecarshowNet1
      @OnlinecarshowNet1  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also make sure the dip paper is same size as container lip. That minimizes stretch even more

    • @OnlinecarshowNet1
      @OnlinecarshowNet1  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The reason I’m not a fan of the tape is that if you don’t splice at least the corners you could introduce air bubbles when dipping. But splicing the corners adds more stretching. Why I didn’t concentrate on it. I found having the lip of container same size as dip paper is same concept and works a lot better with less stretch.

      Just practice a lot before doing. Seems like it’s a lot like painting though. Better prep equals better results

    • @OnlinecarshowNet1
      @OnlinecarshowNet1  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Another recommendation would be to leave the final Clear coat up to a professional painter take it into macco with 50.00 or something. That way you get a good mirror finish at the end

    • @OnlinecarshowNet1
      @OnlinecarshowNet1  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Carbon fiber and smaller designs are harder because of stretch. But I almost got the stretch down to nothing. I think if I would have cut to fit mount of container better it would have come out perfect.

    • @OnlinecarshowNet1
      @OnlinecarshowNet1  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

  • @K1lostream
    @K1lostream 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I hate to be that guy, but are you doing the right precautions? When I've seen this process elsewhere, it's been clear the activator chemicals are pretty nasty and also the stuff sticks to skin.
    I don't know what you're using, and maybe your kit uses different chemicals that are safe for you and the environment, but if it's not, I'd urge you to use gloves, and probably also best to bag up the reject bits and treat them as contaminated waste when you're clearing the tank.

    • @OnlinecarshowNet1
      @OnlinecarshowNet1  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah probably isn’t good for your hands being oil based paint basically. It is being deluded in a gallons of water though. But cleaning my hands was not fun. So probably a good idea 💡 👍👍

  • @209golightly

    • @OnlinecarshowNet1
      @OnlinecarshowNet1  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes clear coat afterwards is a must for longetivity. It’s basically like paint when activator hits it. Id say it’s life is more dependent on paint life rather than hydrodip.

  • @leeknievel748
