    This is definitely one of the best "find your style" videos I've seen! My style is very different from yours. I'm very cottagecore and femme. But I sooo appreciate your advice and appreciate this channel!

    Shopping alone is really the pro tip! I started shopping alone a few years ago and now I can't go back

      I definitely agree! Having people with you can really influence what you pick, most of the time because of the pressure to like certain pieces or look a certain way. Also, less distractions when alone :)

      TRUEEE! I used to rely a lot on my mom for shopping advice (it’s not weird if she designs clothing as a job 😆) but her style is a lot more inspired by XTC and English rock so it definitely influenced me for years. Now I feel like branching off so I can feel confident and shopping alone is very helpful for me

      @lilidonna 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      YES. I always shop and dress alone (even in fun, getting ready to go out with mates situations). I like to appear how i am and then no one can say anything. Rather than get feedback and feeling obliged to change even though it means feeling less confident in how I look.

    • @alienrat-z3g
      @alienrat-z3g 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Same for me. Since I buy most of my clothes alone my mother can't stop me from buying what I like that much anymore. I'll only get judged and told I'm making myself look ugly afterwards when she can't do anything about it.

    “Make the distinction between something that’s attractive TO you and something that’s attractive FOR you” damn that’s a word.
    To me that’s the real lifetime tug-of-war of style. I like a lot of things that aren’t really flattering to me. Sometimes I lean more toward what makes me look good, other times I say fuck it and lean toward what I like regardless of whether it flatters me. But it’s so so important to know which is which and I love the way you phrased that

    i once saw this jenny mustard video and it said something very interesting: see what you like about yourself (ie. broad shoulders, masculine features, small waist etc etc) and find clothes that accentuate them so that you'll feel more confident in them

    I've been on a bit of a style ~journey~ (so obnoxious but I dont know what else to call it LOL) and the biggest thing I've realized is that I need to present myself in a way that makes me *like* myself. Obviously one should like oneself anyway... but I'm talking style that lends that extra spark. Like "damn I look hot." Clothes that you step out in and they make you want to strut. I never had that feeling in my life, and finding it feels SO good.
    I realized that while I love all kinds of different styles and vibes, a great outfit can still make me super uncomfortable if it isnt right, if it isnt "me." That would happen when I would try to dress up super femme, for example-I'd put on that dress and heels and look great in the mirror, but then go out into the world and feel like shit. I thought it was just my insecurity when it was actually this incongruence between myself and what I was presenting to the world. On the other hand, once I figured out what was authentic to me, I learned that I can actually like me!

    I understand where you are coming from when it comes to other’s opinion. There was a time when I wore some army joggers, black tee, and some timbs. My dad said “why do you dress like a boy?”. My response was “because I’m comfortable”. I didn’t want to have that conversation or explain myself because I didn’t need to. I do find myself putting and outfit together and then texting my sister to see if it goes well. I want to stray away from that and just ask myself if it goes together. If it does, then go with it. I try not to rely on others opinions because it’ll just make me feel a way. Basically what you said. This video is great 😊

    The point on an outfit fitting different on different bodies is SO important! I tried to replicate an outfit of yours (Jade) from your summer fits video and because of my wider hips and thighs it did not look the same on me. But when I put my own style on it, it looked really cute.

  • @eswan7329
    @eswan7329 3 ปีที่แล้ว +41

    I appreciate the idea of breaking down and finding what I'm liking about outfits more specifically. I wayyy too often get too attached to the idea of copying one element of an outfit which is often really hard to find or just massively outside my budget, so then I'm just disappointed, lol.

    shopping alone is so important!!! or if I'm shopping with a friend/family member, I won't ask for opinions on what they think about the things I like or bring them to the dressing rooms with me. Oftentimes my friends I spend time with don't have the same kind of style as me so they don't see the ~vision~ while shopping but end up liking it later when it's styled lol

    Jade, I want to thank you for this channel and for your insights on fashion and self-improvemnt.
    As a 19 year old masculine-presenting girl, I haven't had much change to explore with my clothes and self expression.
    This is the only place I know where I feel like someone GETS me. What you do is important and inspiring.
    Thank you!

    Absolutely agree with shopping ALONE! In the past when I mention to my friends that I wanted to switch up my style they were a little too enthusiastic about it. Whenever we would go out, they chose clothes that accentuated parts of my body, not my thing. By the end of the trip I was over it and focused on spending time with them... and didn't ask them to come with me again.

    This was so helpful not only because it gave me ideas for how to go about updating my wardrobe, but you also pinpointed what I don't like about IG and other social media. A lot of the people copy/paste trends and they're cute but not necessarily unique. I can look at it and say "i want that" but i hesitate because they don't feel like /me/. Now i realize i should think about what I specifically like about those outfits and put things together. I don't need to go out much so i only have two outfits and they're both way too hot to wear in the summer haha

    Figuring out what i like the look of for others vs what i like /for me/ has been the biggest thing I've kind of struggled with. I have so many super femme friends whose style i really like but when I try to wear it, i feel so goofy and awkward, like I'm wearing an ill fitting costume.

    I was NOT expecting to get emotional behind this video but… here I am 😩 especially when you touched on “fit” and how you have to decide how YOU want your clothes to fit you, personally. I’ve spent too much of my life wearing garments the way society “told” me I should wear them, when it usually wasn’t comfortable for ME. Thank you 🥲

    I really want my style to go into that goth/e-girl kinda direction (dw, only the direction). However, that style heavily makes use of a very feminine silhouette and the people in the pictures tend to be rather petite and pants are worn very high-waisted and cinched up and that just does not work with my very tall, slightly built but still skinny body shape. Also I have hip dips but honestly I'm not gonna let that dictate my clothing style because they're perfectly healthy and natural and fuck anyone who wants to tell me that I shouldn't make my fashion dreams a reality because of anatomy. But back to the topic. I feel really uncomfortable with that feminine silhouette, but an internet friend of mine is really my fashion hero because they pull off that studded belt, band shirt tucked into jeans goth kinda style without that feminine silhouette and it just looks so good and oh my god they're just iconic.

    As someone with a pretty small budget for clothes I tend to just buy something I like that I can afford simply because I can actually afford it this time without much thought other then ''a cute piece to add to my wardrobe''
    But then turns out yes, now i have an extra piece in my wardrobe but that piece will probably never see the light of day because it just doesn't fit me the way I like, doesn't quite go on my body the way I want and overall just doesn't go with me
