Jade, addressing fit off the bat is such a great example of how universal your advice is this applies to every body and why I'm here even though we have very different taste. It also made me realize why weight changes can feel really disruptive to my self expression just because it still fits doesn't mean it still feels me. Thanks 😊

I really like your tip of having your personality/personal stories behind your clothes. most of my clothes are kinda boring tbh, but I have lots of graphic tees that I love and most of them are from friends who are local artists. those are my fave because I can be like "my friend made this!" and then talk about them and their work and it's so fun! those are the ones that I'm always gonna keep and are gonna survive every closet purge.

12:10 my mom doesn't shop much but she will - not - get rid of clothes, it's a little crazy but her closet has hand me downs from her mom, her aunt, her older sister (who is a big shopper so it's like half her stuff tbh), her husband, stuff she got as gifts since like the 80s, and probably like half of it doesn't fit her but she keeps it because they're cool pieces and it's a great shopping experience for me lol my favorite jeans and my favorite blazer I just found there while digging around and they were 4free 😎

i love a good video breaking down steps and ways to really narrow down personal style. as a hermit, i often times don't leave my house and relegate myself to the comfortable always-- but even in that I see reflections of what has been a slowly growing unique style i've noticed I get comments on. Refining my personal style has become something incredibly important to me and you're like, a beacon of wisdom with it- especially in watching you further curate your own style throughout the years of watching.
    thanks Jade!

I've had so much trouble redoing my wardrobe but I'm already limited by fit and size for pants and shoes so thanks for the reminder that the rest can fall into place just from starting there!! I'm a huge accessories person now

Omg, I made a really long comment with resources and stuff and it disappeared. 🤦 Oh well. In summary:
Jade, this was an excellent vid. I really love how you deconstruct style. It's so much more useful than the typical "do/don't wear This with That to be trendy" fashion advice. Though my style is more maximalist than yours, you've helped me think about details and the choices I make.
ETA: And you're rocking that denim jacket. Is that the one you cut the collar off of? The pic of you in the oversized leather jacket - I really loved the fit of the jeans you're wearing there, like baggy but tapered at the ankle. Is that the cut of the jeans or did you peg and cuff the bottoms?
For those searching to build or upgrade their closets I highly rec Poshmark. It's been instrumental in me honing my style and finding interesting and more unique pieces that feel fresh. There's also Thred Up, which I haven't used but I know some people like. So if you can't thrift in person or there's slim pickens where you are, you can thrift online for everything from fast fashion brands to indie to high end to vintage. And it's sustainable. 👍
I also want to put a shout out for Etsy. It's been a fantastic resource for me to find interesting or unique jewelry and accessories, and there's price points for every wallet. Plus you're supporting independent, individual designers. 👍
The two shops I frequent most are Gothic Orb Jewelry and Misfit Culture, both women owned (Misfit is also a Black owned biz). The latter has social justice messaging tees, tanks and hoodies in well designed typography, which have become a wardrobe staple for me. Service and quality for both have been excellent.
Hope that helps someone out there 😊

i really want to change how i dress because right now i dress very much like a conservative hetero sexual man because i had to for my own safety, but since ive moved i really want to dress to represent my queerness and my personal beliefs/interests. i think most things in my closet will have to go.

My main problem about my fashion is there's literally zero thrift shop and vintage shop in my city. I don't know what is that confignment shop of something you talked about. I already raid my mom's closet but it's usually too small or too tight for my liking. If it isn't, the condition isn't that good anymore.
My best chance of finding unique pieces is probably DIY or custom made my clothes which is probably would be expensive. I could do online shopping but sizing/judging the quality of the clothes would be a problem.
