Dude it is all gimmicks. They're just the gimmicks they use to convey information. Denver 100, ike gauntlet, d to d, buddy reviews. They're all gimmicks. But they do it honestly and let you know a lot of the behind the scenes stuff that goes on. It's got nothing to do with production or intros.
The biggest mistake Volvo has made is making Polestar a stand alone brand. Polestar was great as a performance trim or line. Like Acura Type S, Audi’s RS, BMW M, of Mercedes AMG. Volvo going electric and then spinning off Polestar as an electric brand just seems like it was going to fail from the start.
I upgraded from a 2014 Toyota Highlander to a 2024 Cadillac XT4(the 2024 highlander drove the same and is pretty much the same chasis and interior so it's boring). The Cadillac XT4 has no turbo lag that I can feel. Every other car that I test drove had turbo lag, whether short or long...Mercedes GLC300 (least turbo lag), BMW X3 (a little more turbo lag), Porsche Macan S (even more turbo lag), Honda (way too much turbo lag). The Cadillac has these features that TH-camrs miss: - lighted logo behind the dashboard - pulsating safety seat (most cars only beep) - left behind child in the rear seat alert - capless fuel tank (like my 2017 Corvette C7 ) - umbrella storage in the doors (like Rolls Royce) - active noise cancellation (like my 2017 Corvette C7 with Bose) - power passenger seat with lumbar - free 5G hotspot - stop/start feature is the smoothest I’ve ever experienced that I don't even notice it. My other car is a 2017 Corvette Stingray in stickshift.
Love my used 2023 Volvo C40 Recharge at $28K! Reviewers agree that the infotainment system is not first rate, but I find that it works well with the physical controls. Range and recharge times are below average, but its comfy, good ride and handling, sporty, nice interior & exterior, excellent build quality & safety. Love when TFL collaborates with other TH-camrs. How about a joint driving event at Tumbleweed Ranch?
Volvo in NA has always appealed to old money (non-flashy) buyers who want European design without the new-money stigma of the likes of BMW and Mercedes. Same with Saab before GM drove them into the ground.
Roman is great in these settings. Like interviewing other auto journalists. Please do more, you are great at driving the conversation and asking good questions.
Great video. Great job. @redline review and @car confections, this was so refreshing. While regular car reviews occupy their own space, a video like this rounding up trends and opinions was amazing. Please produce more videos like this.
Funny how Roman introduces the segment of Worst cars and then says he doesn't want to say worst cars even though it's in the title and then says "Cars that did not meet expectations" instead of just saying "What were the most disappointing cars of 2024 so far?"
Would be nice to have time stamps for this long video. Not interesting in sitting through the whole thing, but would have been interested to skip around if I knew what was talked about specifically in each section.
Saying the car industry would love to see a sub $30k EV that goes 300 miles on a charge and charges in less than 20 minutes is delusional. First, there are very few cars in the US that can be had for less than $30k already. Most EV's of ANY price don't go 300 miles on a charge. And almost no EV's of any sort fully charge in less than 20 minutes. Your talking points, whether you realize it or not, are tuned to make EV's unacceptable. Meanwhile, China is eating US car manufacturers for lunch, just like Japan ate US car makers for lunch back in the "But bigger is better!" 1970's.
I think the confusion might come from Elon Musk who thought building EV cars would be much easier than an ICE car and can scale up more quickly and driving the cost down. It turned out not true (yet). But some people still talk about sub $35k car for the masses.
About infotainment, all i want is bluetooth audio, i will set up my phone to play what i want before setting off, adjust when stopped, or have a passenger adjust it. No need for anything else.
Here's one that trumps all other vehicle. No frill, the 2nd gen 2018 Chevrolet traverse awd LT V6. Easy to maintain, non of that fake crap that just made absolutely no sense. Everything is laid out in the proper location and made sense. It's one of the easiest suv to work on by far.
A fun question for all you automotive journalists. What car brands have the best or worst new car smell in your opinions? I think that would be a fun video
I get that Kia and Hyundai have been on fire with their redesigns and styling, but I can’t get past the number of engine issues. The quality is horrible, and the dealership experience is terrible. Yes, you do get a great warranty but I’d rather not worry about having to have engine, transmission or electrical issues. Subaru’s new Forester is a let down. The styling is too bland. I liked the last gen but agree that it was missing a lot of features. I think the Honda and Mazda are better choices. Toyota makes to much of an appliance car in my opinion.
Besides the infrastructure being not fully efficient enough for charging. I think one of the biggest issue with ev are their exterior looks like y'all mentioned. IDK WHY every ev have to look a certain way or awkward way. Like why can't you can't you make the same model of a car vehicle to become a ev? Like why do they all look so ugly. Don't get me wrong they are getting better lately lookwise but man a lot of ev just looks weird and ugly.
There is actually more maintenance with an EV. They require battery and electric motor replacement every five years. The tires wear much faster. Who takes their car to a dealer for an oil change. You can do that in the driveway.
16:10 That's funny. The solution here is Apple supporting Android Automotive. And the good thing about this is that once they do it, it will work on all AA vehicles. But of course Apple won't do it as quick as they could because they want to pressure OEMs into supporting CarPlay instead.
In principle you guys are right but in the same time you are journalists and you tend to change cars like there’s no tomorrow. The average Joe has in average two cars (maybe) and the same average Joe maybe likes logins. It all depends for what purpose he purchased the car.
The only car I like from Toyota is the corolla no crappy turbo engine . I hate the Camry it only comes in Hybrid. The Chevy Traxx in ten years will have been sitting 5 years in a landfill

Again with nonsense of electric cars! I’ll write this REALLY slow, until you can charge an electric car in a similar fashion as a ICE car it will be a niche vehicle! There should be no expectation of larger sales until this happens.
So great to see the 3 of you in 1 room. Great conversation
My 3 favorite channels all in one conversation 👍 you guys need to do more of these. Thank you 🙏
the best one is the one you can afford
This video deserves a lot more likes, I’ve been watching those guys for years. Legends, thank you for giving us this content
Im glad Sofyan and Mason both called out Honda on charging a premium with lackluster features. Honda indeed lost its mojo.
Yeah civic sport touring at 33k with no rear vents or ventilation.
Of all the car channels on YT, these are really the tops. No bs, no gimmicks, just straight forward information and opinion. Keep it up!
Lmao. TFL is literally all gimmicks! 😂

Roman is really good in this setting with non TFL staff. I want more of this.
For real, this is his setting for sure

I can't wait for the EX60, but I definitely hope they do an update to the XC60 like they did with this. Same/similar grill, headlights and dash.

Anyone buying an EV for anything more than $50/mo (no I'm not missing a 0 in that number) lease payment has absolutely no financial sense whatsoever.
Would be nice to have time stamps for this long video. Not interesting in sitting through the whole thing, but would have been interested to skip around if I knew what was talked about specifically in each section.

Nice TFLtalk video. Me personally, I don’t think I’ve ever used love and Volvo in the same sentence.

Come on, you got to have fart noise mode at least!
Face recognition should be mandatory on all car to cut down on theft, this would cut insurance rates maybe
I wouldn't give $50k for any Volvo
Yeah. Piss poor reliability with 10 year old ICE tech.
They are nice, luxurious, and safe. People that are buying it are getting it for those 3 reasons and won’t keep it outside of warranty.
