    Let me make one thing very clear with this situation. When using the sell similar feature, I totally screwed up when not making sure the pre-filled information from the previous seller was accurate. The intention of this video was to share another bad buyer experience, however it is also an experience that we can all learn from if you use the sell similar feature. Be careful to what is already there in the listing. Yes, it was my mistake and initially in the conversation with the buyer I was totally oblivious the "expresso glass" was there. In this video I chose to focus on the buyer's demand for free coffee capsules that was never offered in the listing. With that said, I finally offered a free return on this due to the item specific issue, however it was never the buyers intention to return the item as they were hoping for a partial refund here.

      He quite possibly has done it before, there are people that scour eBay for those inconsistencies! It happened to me and I always say the pictures are the best description and exact item you'll receive. It was a smaller less expensive item I just let it go, let him have the item and refunded him. But it was clear to me because of our discord that he was not new to doing this! Live and learn

    Definitely phishing! I just had something similar happen to me where the buyer stated item was missing parts and said just give me a discount. I told the buyer apparently you are unhappy with the purchase just send it back and after I receive it you’ll get a refund.
    I also dislike how they have 30 days to return it back. Of course he waited until day 23 to return the item back. After I receive it and refund them, I block them.

    I've also found it's important when I use "sell one like this" not to trust the previous seller's listing and to thoroughly check all item specifics and descriptive title keywords for errors. A brand name that it isn't or a size that is incorrect. I've had people message me to ask if it was a size 8.5 or 10 because it had both. Also make sure to check "new" or "used". Often there are hidden item specifics that are incorrect and they can be passed along unchecked. Thanks for sharing your experience.

    I would handle it the same way. Fortunately it doesn't happen that often but anytime I have a feeling about a buyer (or even prospective buyer) I immediately block them and keep a paper trail on all correspondance to back up any future issues. I also keep extra photos that the buyer doesn't know I have for another back up in defense.

    • @theresakralik1820
      @theresakralik1820 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So do I. You know conversations go a certain way and certain questions get asked. When a prospective buyer asks an oddball question then you know they don't know what they are buying. I do like questions though! Saves on future returns.

      I agree, and I can’t believe this just happened to me. I’m a new seller and this toys and collectibles professional seller from PA is trying to scam me by saying the figurine I sold them almost two weeks ago arrived broken, and they’re asking for a “fair” discount. I knew right away I was being scammed because for one, I package my figurines extremely well and two, and most importantly, because the photos they’ve provided are not of the figurine I sold them. These figurines are hand painted and the differences can be very noticeable like they are in this case. I was advised by EBay to stop engaging with them unless they start a return.

    Definitely sounds like he was fishing, but it's hard to say for sure without seeing the listing. One rule of thumb that I always use is never ever use a picture that has anything in it that it doesn't come with, because people will assume (and not wrongfully so) that they're receiving everything that's pictured.

I Google it and it says $100 top to rewire. I keep pushing back. Finally after back and forth give $200 refund. He complained about that. Looked him up from screenshot of estimate for rewiring. • @busboyta
    @busboyta 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    John, omg thanks for the vid. I just had a buyer try and use the item specific angle on me for a bluray. YES a bluray . The title was accurate, the photos were accurate because I state the item you will receive are the exact photos, the description was correct because I never mentioned a specific word they stated . But when they went into the item specifics there was the special word they tried to use against me. Ok so the only possible reason I can think of why this happened is because I bounced off another sellers listing and I didn’t check the item specifics. But here’s the kicker, and this is how I believe I shut the buyer right up. I explained to them that when I entered the EXACT upc of the item as a new listing it came up as yes a bluray ! So that helped tremendously . What I didn’t like about this buyer were a few things. One was what you stated. He was fishing for a reason to either ask for a partial refund or they were having a bad day and they just were compelled to give me NEG. FB. So I responded back and they stated that it seems like I was putting fault all on them. Now I definitely was but I didn’t want to say that. But yes I wanted to call them out and say what’s on my mind. But I didn’t . I was professional all the way. But it just irked me that I knew they were just sitting around the house just trying to find something wrong with the item they received for whatever reason. But my instincts took over and I just knew they were a fisher . But lastly the final thing that irked me was when I called them out on the item specific which was EBay’s catalog Upc, my response to the buyer twice was
    “ how would you like for me to handle this” their last response was I will just leave feedback. Which implied I almost certainly will be getting minimum a neutral FB. So I immediately reported the buyer because calling eBay customer service is very difficult sometimes. So I went THE report the buyer angle. So Until today I have not received any feedback from them . So I’m keeping my fingers crossed. Sorry for the lengthy message but maybe this happened to someone else . And this is how it works. Thanks john👍

    I knew the change for item specifics would be a disaster because many sellers
    at their own risk would piggy back on other's listings. I have never done that. I've seen
    so many errors in item specifics in listings for cds, vinyl records, etc. Sellers are leaving
    themselves wide open for what happened to you. Having said that, I subscribed because
    I realized I need to keep up on everything now, even as a buyer only.

      They might do it anyways but the thing I think helps is be polite even if you 100% know buyer is full of it and 100% scammer be polite because they still have your item...
      Even if they don't intentionally break it if they are mad they might pack it poorly and it break in shipping... SO be polite ... regardless if buyer trying to scam you...

    I’m having a problem with a 70 yr old shortwave radio I sold. Buyer sent message that radio has a humming sound and wants a $30 refund, radio sold for $20 and buyer paid shipping. He opened a return and left me my first negative feedback in 19 years. Looking at his feedbacks the same unique feedback quote (not a regular one) is repeated dozens of times from different sellers most times one after another. I reported it to eBay. Now ebay has approved his return. I did the chat with them today, so I’m waiting to see if he returns it. Shipping back and forth will be $55 on the $20 item. 😡😡😡

    • @FlippinAintEasy
      @FlippinAintEasy  ปีที่แล้ว

      Here’s the good news. He asked for a partial refund and buyers cannot change the teens of the sale meaning they cannot ask you to include something not in the sale nor should they ask for a partial refund. In doing so before sending you a negative, the buyer essentially tried to extort you for a partial refund, has you given in to this unreasonable request you certainly would not have received a negative. Go into help and contact and you should be able to locate the feedback removal tool. There should be an option that best fits this removal request however in the notes you need to explain that the buyer wanted you to send him money back and when you did not they left you negative feedback. Also something to consider, once you process the return the negative feedback will eventually get removed anyway which is why it is actually better to just take the return than to try to fight one. Sorry this happened however it shouldn’t be all that bad in the end.

    I think ebay fishers ask for partial refunds because it's so easy to get away with it on Amazon especially with Chinese sellers. I once bought a bluetooth mouse on ebay for $7 and told the seller it didn't work with Win 11. He gave me a full refund and I got to keep the mouse. I would call your buyer's bluff. I sold an item last year where the buyer claimed it had a scratch. I told him he can return it. 3 weeks later he contacts me again asking for $2 refund. I called his bluff once more and that was the end of it. Obviously the item didn't have a scratch on it and he was just fishing for a partial refund.

    98% of the people I talk to about my listings tell me that I spend too much time on them, and that they are 'busy' ... which I am fine with. I use a template that breaks down my shipping policy, my return policy, and highlights any condition issues. Additionally, it has a line in it that says: "What you see in the pictures is EXACTLY what you will receive. There is NOTHING MORE than what you see in the pictures." Additionally, I have CONSISTENTLY found that anything E-bay 'Pre-fills' when I use an ISBN, or a UPC is LOADED with things that are not accurate, or are misleading.

    when selling items with consumables you do have to be careful with the consumables like filter media or sampler packs due to mold concerns or making people sick.
    if you do include consumables make sure they are sealed in their original packing like the filter media for air filters must be unopened because of sanitary reasons.
    i would watch the buyer if he pulls any more stunts on you then you can block him.

    As a fellow eBay seller, I agree with EVERYTHING you said 💯 %
    For high price items I require a signature. (NO DRAMA) I’ve been with eBay a long time & began selling items again last year. I have an 100% rating & just now I have a customer claiming they didn’t receive a package although it says it was delivered. 😂
    As a buyer myself via any online platform I understand to reach out to the postal company when it’s marked as delivered. I had a situation happen to me & it magically appeared that night after contacting them. I also understand that the issue of an item not being “delivered” when it’s marked as DELIVERED is out of the seller’s hands at that point. But scammers don’t understand policies! 😅

    What a pain. I think some people perpetually fish for partial refunds. I have seen some who will say return the item back to me and if it is the exact same item as in the listing and in the same shape I sent it to you then I will issue a refund. Maybe they think twice if they are trying to pull a scam or something but some will want to keep the item and just get some money back. Or try to issue a charge back on their credit card and keep the item and get a refund. I suppose people in retail stores go through that too. People that enjoy and use the item or clothing then just bring it back and try to get a refund. Costco it happens a lot because their return policy is so relaxed I have heard of people returning Christmas trees after Christmas and they will refund. Some even return a year later. It's crazy. It's part of doing business I guess.

    I only did a partial refund once (I usually never do). I sold a customer a fairly rare ($80) ceramic candy bowl. She messaged me that there were some chips on the bottom, with photos. I of course thought she was trying to shake me down for a partial refund. Then I checked the original photos and sure enough there were cracks on the bottom that I had missed. I messaged her and asked what I can do. She was willing to take a $10 refund because she wanted to keep the piece. I've learned since then to look over ceramics very carefully first.

      Glass and pottery buyers are very picky. As a rule they hate chips, cracks, crazing and repairs. You got lucky. Always show every side of an item including the bottom. Buyers that care will look for flaws and let you know if you have a problem before it is shipped. It is expensive to pay for returns on glass and pottery due to INAD. Glass and pottery aren't like other categories where the buyer wants a discount. They don't want defects at any price. I recently sold a vase that when perfect is worth $1000. Mine sold for $50 with a chip. It looked great on a shelf but it still took over 2 years to find a buyer... Again. You got lucky the buyer was willing to take an adjustment.

If someone wants a return, sure there will be a refund-- but people who think they are entitled to a partial refund are really just out to rob you. One my friends has had some real horror stories about partial refund requests-- items that the buyer claims came broken and he had to glue, then the next message item arrived already glued, etc. eBay dealt with it once they saw the messages. But even when you do all your own item specifics, you need to double check. Thanks for my morning episode!

    This is my recent feedback to eBay: The person I spoke with remained professional as I told her how upset I am at the eBay policies that support buyer abuse indirectly. If a buyer can give either negative or positive feedback and the seller can only give positive feedback then how can a seller determine which buyer to sell to. My photos clearly show the quality of the product sold. eBay claims they promote a positive environment, but in truth are unable to due to the one-sided policy described above. Sellers do not want to take the risk due to unfair bias and not being able to tell which buyer is legitimate.

Once the label is purchased the package is shipped as far as I am concerned. Ebay will refund you for USPS labels however you have to request to void the label. With Fedex or UPS you are not charged for the label until it is actually used. If you do decide to accept the request to cancel, they buyer would be entitled their money back since you would not be out the cost of the label.

    Jon, He or She was for sure fishing and a stretch at that point. One thing I've noticed to look out for. Even when selling similar. Running threw all the item specifics and changing them accordingly. I've noticed that when you get that annoying Recommended Item Specifics message. Sometimes it will revert everything you did and reapply the previous sellers item specifics. I don't know if it's still a bug. But I would most defiantly keep an eye on that. Nonetheless I am glad the buyer didn't take it further with a return or negative feedback. I had a similar situation but it was a brand new unopened item. They said the item didn't work correctly. It was a window alarm. So I just did a partial refund and he accepted. It was such a strange request for such a very non valued item. Later after reviewing his feedback. I seen some consistencies in his partial refund behavior based on other seller feedback.

    Ebay likes to update Required Item Specifics and when they do there are new defaults added that cause a huge headache. Example FLATWARE, single pieces catagory. Ebay added (14") as the length on every item. It was buried under a drop down that said ADDITIONAL SPECS. I had several INAD because the teaspoons or dinner forks weren't 14" long, even though I had the correct measurement, 6" or 8", in the title, I just said send it back. Another item specific default was pink....It took me forever to find and fix the item specifics. I assume other sellers have had the same problem and when I use their listings those errors come forward again. I have FINALLY learned to Check all item specifics...even the hidden ones.

    I think you should leave them a negative buyers review explaining the situation. I recently had a buyer want all sorts of extreme requests before even purchasing an item. Ebay and (other sellers) have spoiled buyers.... Ebay because they encourage this kinda behavior and do nothing about it... and other sellers too because sometimes they'll offer partial or even full refunds for you to go away... I've contacted a few seller with legit issue like this item is damaged or you sent wrong model, or color.. or even snad it's broken... Maybe like 10% of the time on low cost items a seller just give 100% refund without return because it actual cost less than taking the return.... would...
    And while it works good for the seller at the time... It encourages bad behavior from the buyer... Now the buyer thinks HEY if I complain I may get the item for free....or at a steep discount...
    Now from the sellers perspective it doesn't get too bad til you start dealing with high price items... As with low cost you maybe willing to take the loss.. Though On say a 2000$..
    If a buyer goes " Hey bro I got X problem but no worries bro I'll still like the item but I'm gonna need X amount to fix/repair/ for defect..."
    It's implied that "hey if you don't give me X amount you are going to have to refund me so you should just give me X amount discount or else I return it and you lose 2000..
    "
    In this cases it best to use a preemptively attack yourself ( as seller) sounds a bit backwards and stupid especially if you really really don't want or can't afford to give a refund but it's only way to get rid of these partial refunder.... Once you offer the return say you have no problem with it and stick to your guns.. If it was just a partial fisher they will go away on their own and if they have a legit issue they will return the item.... ( which they would do anyways)..

    Buyers know that returns and not as described and negative feedback have sellers shaking in their boots. Ebay is the worst because the force 30 day things down your throat and a chargeback can come months down the pick and sellers that know that will cause problems. I've had things were it didn't fit so threats. Or it was not like new...I mean vintage is not NEW. The color was not quite the same as the pictures...anything they can pull. Ebay would rather lose sellers then buyers because always someone selling their stuff on ebay. Smaller sellers can get hosed after just a few negatives or returns even if the seller does everything right it's 3 strikes and could take a year to lose one of those strikes can have 95 to 100 percent positive feedback and does not matter it's zero tolerance on ebay now a days.

Try to just step back and put yourself in the buyers shoes next time and see if you can decode what they are really trying to say.

We had UPS refund him and man UPS really screwed up I'm assuming that's who damaged the package especially since it was shipped at remarkable speeds. $3000 item with about $400 of damage that we know of, possibly worse if it had any internal damage. He kept asking and UPS took like a month to call the guy really stressful situation and pretty off putting for me as well since that's my preferred carrier I find until this item were more reliable in delivering my items to me. I didn't want ebay or me to have to pay for it since UPS screwed up.

    I understand your point about the coffee capsules (or whatever they're called), but I have to agree with the buyer about the glass. When buying, I don't do a comparison between what was stated and what is shown in the images because most listings don't show everything in the images. I probably would have offered to refund him something between $5 and $10. However, every seller has their own way of operating their business, so I respect your right to have handled it differently. Couple of things here, its truly not important what "we think" nor will it change the concluded outcome now. You seem like a fair and honest seller, but you have to remember, we are all dealing with a society where you have to have a label on a can of nuts, STATING it may contain nuts. Another thing is pictures even on factory items are misleading and if you didn't lay all the items out and state, "pictured is exactly what you will receive" and there is a picture of that cup on the original packaging then the buyer has every right to expect the item. Theres always a grey area to everything, it may take more time to list more details, but question to you would be, wouldn't it be worth it?

      Best way is to go to eBay help and contact. Once there tore in the search “sneaker authentication”. You should see somewhere near the bottom where you have the option to chat. Go ahead and ask for someone to call you back. You should get the option for a callback and good chance it will be a USA rep who handles the authentication process. Good luck.
